@I am Negan yeah that's why after the last round of protest put on by ANSWER and the PSL Maduro personally thanked the US working class for their solidarity and resistance to imperialism. That's why in Venezuela they are having a signature campaign to resist US imperialism. This idea that mass action is useless is one given to you by the US ruling class. While mass action protest are not in it of themselves revolutionary I'd dare you to find a revolutionary party that formed without the experience of mass protest especially in opposition to imperialist wars.

    • @LoganMillett
      @LoganMillett 5 лет назад +14

@I am Negan there was a US backed coup in 2012 and there has been an embargo since Chavez nationalized the oil. You can't really argue that there isn't imperialism.
No one is arguing that Venezuela doesn't have economic problems but a blockade from the US, being forced off trading in the US dollar, having millions of dollars worth of assets frozen by banks, being refused multiple lower interest loans because of the US embargo, and the National bourgeoisie smuggling money and resources out of the country to exacerbate the issue, could all be things that have affected their economy. That's not even mentioning the opposition which won a majority in their national assembly but refused to pass any legislation. Gtfo

@Daithi Seamus When the US instill regime change it rarely is through a direct attack. They usually create an opposition and then give "aid" which tends to include weapons. There is usually some unrest also created by blocking trades going in and out of the country.
When the leader is overthrown they push in their own replacement in order to reap economic rewards. The people become worse off in the end and they rarely recover.

Context. It's not a coincidence that the list of appointees for US-Venezuela policy reads like the Operation Condor version of VH1's Bands Reunited. Let's not be disingenuous here, what the fuck does an internal struggle in Venezuela have to do with us outside of the context of Monroe Doctrine style American intervensionism and imperialism. Oh, and oil. We have our own problems, and they don't want all the strings we place on our "help" anyway.

Your arguments are incredibly good, I do agree on the US imperilism part, and how the humanitarian help was bullshit.
But, I'll have to add some details. As a Colombian whos been to Venezuela several times, they ARE going trhough a crisis, (excuse me if my english is horrible, trying my best) people die because there's no insulin, no psyquiatric meds, no epilepsy meds. There's is a lot of hunger. The rich people are coming either here or anywhere else, so there's not a lot of doctors, engineers, not a lot of profesionals in general. I won't say this is Maduro's fault, but he has made some desicions that are completely bad. Sadly, as a Latin American country, we DO have to have a good relationship with the US, we don't have to submit but it is better to keep it safe as we are so dependent on them; If we want to be independent, we have to do it slowly, increase our interior capital, educate our people and so on. Maduro cut every relationship with the US, and with us (as we are the US slut), and their economy tottally failed. I don't think is as simple as you put it. Is way more complicated. Honestly, Guaido is no good, but Maduro isn't either. They are both dumb, egocentric and corrupted, like most of Latin america politicians. Just look at our white ass dumb president.

I think it depends on where you look. Getting your news exclusively from RUclips is not a good diet if you want to stay informed. Most leftists on RUclips aren't journalists and those who are are often making opinion pieces. This is all well and good, but you'll have to go out on the web and do some reading from foreign online news sites. Also, watch or read your local news and critically examine everything.

The the investment loan was not 70billon (it maybe closing in on that now in total with interest etc but you you sure as hell over shot that). China did not demand the oil fields as compensation nor the infrastructure. V's oil is it's collateral. Hence the allowance of the 300 Chinese drill permits. The Chinese stopped loaning V money as the oil price dropped ironically.
I mean direct US influence through proxies or directly has been going on for about a 100 years. So maybe the Chinese are gearing up their own imperial engine, but there is a clear and present danger. Feel free to eat my lunch.

As much as I hate US interventionism (being from a LatAm country that suffered with it myself), the idea that Maduro is not also some form of power-hungry populist is a bit hard to swallow. Millions of venezuelans are fleeing the country to Brazil (where I am), and the stories they tell don't fully align with your narrative. And they are not all rich white venezuelans either - quite the opposite. Chavez was a huge populist, but did many good things for his country. Maduro is just a lunatic populist.
But I appreciate seeing your view on the subject because it is true that the USA has been shitting on Venezuela and eyeing that oil for way too long. And the hold they have on the narratives around the world is so powerful, that is good to see an opposite view. Interesting video

9:40, oop, there is a bit more historical context we can put here.
Remember earlier in the video essay, the author mentions the colonial legacy of Venezuela. So, that agricultural legacy worked as a way to supplement the oil economy until around the 1950s, when US covert activity in Latin America and domestic agriculture programs made Venezuela's agricultural sector far less profitable. Leading into the 1970s, the country became ever more reliant on the oil economy. This was a problem that pre-existed Chavez, and was also something the Bolevarian revolution has worked to address. We can debate the efficacy of whether or not using oil revenue to supply social programs was short sighted, but we must also recognize the amazing poverty relief seen under the Chavez/Maduro governments is a testament to this effort.
Venezuela's economy been diverse enough, at a time when the leadership is taking appropriate steps. The 20th century is why Venezuela is where it is now. Moreover, American Imperialism means that the Chavistas were potentially unable to take certain actions.
We know Chavez left private industry alone, but that's probably because the Chavistas were aware of what they would be inviting by nationalizing industries, a la Guatemala and Sandinista Chile. This enables the Venezuelan business elite to actively plot against and maintain a duel power situation against the Chavista government. The specter of yankee violence must be accounted for.

I have honestly never seen such a failure of journalistic integrity like the mainstream media coverage of the situation in Venezuela. Not even just the mainstream media, but also many of the sources that most would consider progressive. It really opens your eyes when you see just how hard that hammer comes down on socialists when they come up against capitalist interests.
I am very glad you made this video, I have found this issue has been by far the most difficult to sift through in order to find the truth. I do hope you cover the situation with shortages in the country, I think the misconceptions around that are important to correct.

Mexie at her well reasoned and researched best while at the same time being passionate and disgusted by the blatant contradictions of the neoliberal war machine, love how she pointed out how this is literally the exact same playbook used over and over again and how she pointed out the hypocrisy of the US and others claiming concern for “The People” when there are countless capitalist brutal regimes around the world that we ignore or worse yet support

  • @jfmangano

I was disappointed in Bernie Sanders's tweet calling for the Maduro government to allow for aid because it should've seemed obvious (unless he was simply succumbing to political pressure) that our aims in giving such aid are a pretext to a coup. He since has backed off that, calling for internationally-supervised free elections, but I think he needs to be pressed on what he thinks American aims are in Venezuela and what should be done re sanctions.

One of your best videos mexie! You really cleared what is happening. Many are delusional and think Venezuela oil is not "good" so its "a lazy anti-usa talking point" as if that stops US interests. Oil is not the only thing the US corporate giants want from Venezuela but it all roots to the scarce resources capitalists want to suck out from anywhere & from whoever no matter the costs. I will share this when I can mexie!
