- A couple who hoped to adopt the Ukranian-born orphan Natalia is speaking out in defense of the girl they wanted as a daughter, dismissing surprising claims that she is a violent adult posing as a child. Vincent and Nicole DePaul, have a form of dwarfism similar to Natalia’s, and say they wanted to adopt the orphan in 2009, before she was taken home to Michael and Kristine Barnett, who have alleged she is older than she says and even exhibited disturbing behavior while in their home. #InsideEdition

There is no way natalia was an adult when the barnett’s adopted her. She’s clearly got baby teeth and looks like a child. The age progression from child to adulthood is quite obvious. I can’t believe the courts agreed to change her age to 20 something. This is just ridiculous. Man, our justice system is seriously screwed up in so many ways. The barnett’s should be held responsible for abandoning this child in 2013. It’s just wrong to leave someone behind that you’ve adopted and throw them away like trash. I’m glad that this family is coming out and speaking against the Barnett’s absurd claims .

Seeing this video changed my entire perspective on this case. I really thought that she was a 30 year old women for a long time but after seeing all of the pictures of her growing up and losing baby teeth, I 100% believe Natalia. It's so obvious now seeing everything. Those parents should remain in jail and it's so sad that the adoption agency didn't have the other family adopt her. They would have loved her and taken amazing care of her all while being in a house special made for people of their stature.

ok this kinda confuses me cause in the other video i saw from the adoptive parents' perspective, they said they thought they were adopting a 6 year old, and when they said she was actually an adult i figured that meant they thought she was like 18-25, did they really think she was 30? did they ever say that? and then they proved she was 16, but doesn't that mean the parents were still lied to as they thought she was 6? very confusing

Sadly that's how the worlds youngest mother happened, I wouldn't suggest looking into it as it's an heartbreaking story. Her having a rare form of dwarfism I believe, can increase the risk of developing it. It can be caused by environmental factors as well. Poor kids been through a lot and I hope the best for her.

Regardless if she was a child or a teen when she started living with the Barnetts, she was minor that needed love and support. Natalia’s life was probably pretty tough and confusing on top of that she suffers from dwarfism and other medical conditions. The lack of compassion in people amazes me, she is being criticized because she is lying about her age when like Dr. Phil said, she probably does not even know it. I think she has issues and is normal not to act normal when your whole childhood has been difficult and different.

I've always wondered on which basis the court accepted the real birthday of Natalia being 1989 and, after the court accepted it what is the value of the document of this family stating is 2003?And why this family also left her at the end?
4 years later, it has been proven that she was a child and as of 2024 is currently 22 years old. She was 9, and thankfully now people won’t make theories that she’s an adult.

Seeing any photos not taken by the Barnards (idk spelling) makes her age as a child obvious, framing is important in understanding an image.

@@rainykid9155 Yes, I watched all this on a mainstream news show and I saw it, maybe Inside Edition or 20/20 or something like one of those shows. The mother was bullied into giving her up for adoption by the doctor, and said in her condition she could only have a nice life in America. But after she saw what her baby had been through here, she was upset. Also, that's why this story dropped out of the news - after everyone, and the government authorities here, saw this, it helped them close the case.

@@thatveganchef112 Her adoptive "mom" rented a small house for her in town within walking distance to grocery stores, put some furniture in there for her, and applied & got her adult disability payments in her name. Then soon after the adoptive "parents" left, another lady was walking by on the sidewalk who was a pastor's wife, and she asked Natalia why she was alone outside since she was a little girl. Natalia said she lived there by herself. The lady didn't believe it, so Natalia invited her inside and showed her. The lady felt sorry for her for being by herself, and invited her to come over to her house, since she had kids her age. After she came over, she ended up staying, because she got along so well with their family. Then those parents applied for guardianship of her to stay there, to make sure everything was legal. But the minor guardianship application wasn't approved, because her papers came up as an adult (since the adoptive "mom" had previously requested for her age to be changed to make her an adult). The new parents said it must be a typo since she's a little girl, and asked the courts to correct it. Then that's what tipped off the authorities to look into the situation, found out what had been going on, and everything exploded. Natalia now lives permanently with that pastor's family, like she's one of their kids, and she calls them mom and dad. They said she is very nice.
I tried to hide my cycle from my parents when I was 13 because I was ashamed of it. Not all girls get all excited of getting their cycle.

Dr Phil's theory makes sense to me, which is that she wasn't 6 but she wasn't 22 either. Probably somewhere in between, which might explain why she had baby teeth and pubic hair at the same time. Also explains how she managed to take care of herself in that apartment for a whole year.
I truly believe that nobody knows her true age. Dr.Phil even said he doesn't think that Natalia doesn't even know how old she is either. I feel like she is somewhere in the middle also. She doesn't appear to be 30. The parents abandoned her about 6 years ago so sometime has passed now. We have to subtract those years from whatever age she may be at this time.

The Barnett family did 2 seperate bone tests. At 2010 a famous endocronolist gave a rapport she was 8 years old. 2 years later the Barnett family went to another doctor to do a bone test the rapport said she was 11. Then they looked for a doctor to change her age. It was Michael his primary doctor that wrote a letter for the court that Natalia was older. But he had no knowledge about dwarfism. So with that letter they went to court and that judge believed them and changed her age from 11 to 22. The judge believed the Barnetts that it was for Natalia the best option. Then the rented an appartement for Natalia and payed only her rent for 3 months not a year. After a month she was already in the care of the Mans family.

An update on the case: Journal & Courier reported that they did a DNA test with the biological mother and confirmed that Natalia was born in 2003, so she wasn’t lying about her age.

It wasn’t till 2016 she apparently found a doctor that said she’s older, and they abandoned her in Canada in 2014 dgdhdhd It’s much harder to find this info now cause the insane mother’s side of the story is what went viral, but it’s out there lmfao. The mother sold her story to some news site and no one else did any research to verify, they just wanted to cash in with what people wanted to hear 😑

They had her re-aged so they could legally dump her, but she was a child. The judge re-aged her based on what the Barnetts said, NOT on medical or dental x rays (because those confirmed she was a child). She barely survived being alone. The most uneducated thing you said was how she didn’t speak the language or have an accent. You know that points to her being a child, not an adult. An adult from Ukraine would have an accent. You have to be a child to not retain an accent.
