I think if Watch Dogs Legion had released five years from now when the technology for AI NPCs having conversations that felt natural and could have randomised far more elements of their characters so you could 'play as anyone', it might have worked a lot better in my opinion.
It still wouldn't have worked. In order for people to get invested in a story, we need characters that we care about. The characters are so important to story telling and these games hinge on gameplay and story. People didn't feel any attachment to Legion because it didn't matter what happened in the game. Character dies or gets arrested? Oh well, get another one. There's a reason no other game, movie, or book has tried the Legion method. Ubisoft should have realized that and never tried it. I would have much preferred to continue Marcus's story or seen a new character in their fight against corporate greed, government corruption and big brother.
Looks like Ubisoft is killing its franchises. The Crew, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell hasn't had a game in 11 year's and Driver in 13 years. Ubisoft killer of franchises.
Wasn't Watch Dogs connected to Assassin's Creed in some way? I remember finding random Abstergo employees in the city and killing them to help the Brotherhood.
The leader of Abstergo's France (from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag) branch also is in Watch_Dogs 1 and gets killed by Aiden, and then that guy mysteriously disappears from the AC franchise afterwards
I think the problem with watch dogs is that it didnt know what it wanted to be. The first was a modern nior adventure with the stereotypical vengeance story The second was this vibrant, living world and fuckery Legion was just everywhere, i think if bloodline was its own game itd be fine in away

6:10 honestly, every time I hear the hypocrisy of someone not supporting something because it used AI and "they know people"...as long as you are consitent fine....you don't use ATMs or Apps for paying for things because that replaced bank tellers, you don't use self check out because that replaced clerks, you don't use cars public transportation because that put the horse and carriage industry out, not living in a home because it put the tent makers out, and not watching movies or tv because it put the playwrites out of business...otherwise you are just saving the kid you know from the burning orphanage and letting the rest burn.
Ubisoft cannibalized their own sales on WD Legion and Fenyx Rising by releasing them right next to Valhalla. At least Star Wars Outlaws is going to get chance by having an August window. I came to Watch Dogs 1 and loved the story AFTER the first chapter. Really picked up. 100% it. Kinda bailed on the sequel. Might go back some day.
I expected this. I personally still thought the first game was the best in terms of story, characters and atmosphere. Yeah the whole E3 controversy sucked, but it was a solid game in the end. WD2 improved and smoothed out the gameplay and San Fran was a fun open world...but I didn't like any of the Hipster characters, and the fact that you could just shoot your way out of every mission really killed it for me. And Legion had every right to be one of the most important games ever and it was just....boring. The Bloodlines DLC was better than the main game.
Watch dogs 1 was better than 2 and legion. 1 felt grounded and real. Dull yeah because you're havking things. Tho that ending hack with the heart. Whoa. 2 i could even figure out what was going on. I always felt that this IP just kind of " existed " and never really gained mych traction tbh. It obviously isnt financially viable to continue the series so in the bin it goes.
I remember playing Watch Dogs and being blown away by how alive the game felt. It was such a great experience. I really liked Aiden as a main character as well. The effin mystique of the guy!
@Oroku_Sensei I know, and I actually thought WD1 had like a very detailed but artsy feel to it, like the rain affects and the diaglogue of the NPC's and the boss characters, I thought it was really well thought out.. I thought the natural transition for some reason in my mind was to go to New York or Paris with Aiden Pearce and just continue the character on. I thought the mystic of Aiden was interesting, and it felt very Chicago, in my opinion. So when they tried going down a less goofy approach it kinda killed the whole mood of the game & then Legion was just a rehash of WD2 same animations to a certain point and then just messed up the whole thing, it was a very exaggerated version of London, I am born in the UK and that is not a good representation and it fell flat after that.

Unisoft need to completely shake things up to shift perceptions now. Make an RPG, or even do sports or something. Anything as long as it's different. Right now, Unisoft = boring/broken/bloated open worlds.
i enjoy far crys repetitive gameplay though wasnt really a fan of AC Valhallah mainly i felt the games ending was not well handled and made almost zero sense even to someone who got 100% of the game done but also because they made the bloat too big and uninteresting -- i prefered the much toned down and trimmed mirage -- despite finding the protagonist insufferable (given that he was an npc in valhallah that i didnt really like either he was someone i found i couldnt root for
Watch Dogs 1 wasn't as good as Watch Dogs 2. Watch Dogs 2 was what the franchise should've been. Then they had a template for a 3rd game, but they ruined it. Happens way to often in the industry. When developers have the blueprint to give us the game we want, then go completely the opposite direction.

Memmber that E3 trailer gameplay that fooled everyone… I memmber… Bought it day one and it’s more disappointing than AC1… atleast AC franchise has deep lore. AC has hoods… Watch dogs had long trench coats.

Don't listen to what ppl tell you about Watch Dogs 1. Play it for yourself and make your own conclusion. Everyday said it was Garbage and I played it for myself and loved it so, You're Mileage may vary.
I like the first one. Second one was just terrible. Hated those characters
Unisoft need to completely shake things up to shift perceptions now. Make an RPG, or even do sports or something. Anything as long as it's different. Right now, Unisoft = boring/broken/bloated open worlds.
Splinter cell 😢
i enjoy far crys repetitive gameplay though wasnt really a fan of AC Valhallah mainly i felt the games ending was not well handled and made almost zero sense even to someone who got 100% of the game done but also because they made the bloat too big and uninteresting -- i prefered the much toned down and trimmed mirage -- despite finding the protagonist insufferable (given that he was an npc in valhallah that i didnt really like either he was someone i found i couldnt root for
Watch Dogs 1 wasn't as good as Watch Dogs 2. Watch Dogs 2 was what the franchise should've been. Then they had a template for a 3rd game, but they ruined it. Happens way to often in the industry. When developers have the blueprint to give us the game we want, then go completely the opposite direction.
Oh no
Watch dogs 2 goat
1:33 why are we so over dramatic, you would think that E3 trailer looked like unreal engine 5 or something. The retail version was dam near exactly like the E3 showcase.
Dude, I was 16 when the game came out and was floored at how much of a downgrade the visuals were from the trailer. They set too high of expectations
@@TBone4Breakfast REALLY!! Tell me what was downgraded and I’ll time stamp in a 10yr old day 1 video from rad Brad, gameriot, or Tetragaming proof that it’s all lies.
@@alexwilliams4729 Lighting and shadows, dynamic reflections, weather effects, texture detail. And not to mention that all of these features were still in the game the whole time, but to not make the console versions look like dog crap the menu options to enable them were hidden from users. There's your examples, now give us a video link and time stamps to prove we are lying.
@zeroenna8554 didn’t have to look far 9:15
Look at the Chicago sign on the cement wall, as the light sways side to side you can see the detailed grid.
The reflection from the puddle dripping from the ceiling , the wet and dented boxes as he exchange covers, also the blood reflections.
Fast forward to 15:45 you see the dynamic weather affects.
@zeroenna8554 lighting and time of day was integral for the E3 showcase. The game doesn’t look nowhere near as good in the day time or during an overcast as it did during city nights. Unless they pulled a Spider-Man 2018 and made it a fixed time of day, raining and in the peak of night.
Memmber that E3 trailer gameplay that fooled everyone… I memmber…
Bought it day one and it’s more disappointing than AC1… atleast AC franchise has deep lore.
AC has hoods… Watch dogs had long trench coats.
Immortals 2 needs to happen
You know what we need another far cry primal, also I'm excited for the assassin's Creed world war I game coming out next year
lol ain’t no world war assassins creed coming out this year is assassins creed Japan next year ghost recon
1 was hype untill it was delayed to not compete with AC Black Flag then came out and, although fun, was so cringe... 2 leaned into the cringe masterfully. Legion IS a great game just a bit TOO sandboxy and random i kinda lost interest. Was excited to see this franchise grow into itself, but i guess after 3 tries still not nailing anything down that they were happy with i get it... hey at least we got Skull and Bones lolol
Watchdogs 2 had just one thing I can never like--- the forced "hip" lingo and interactions that corpos think most of us act and say as "young people" back then
False promises, generic gameplay, and they expected billions.
Watch dogs 2 was amazing
Watch dogs 2 was actually alot of fun.
It's fine.. Ubisoft in general is dead to me after the crew shutdown.
I freaking love this series!
Okay lets be honest!
It should rather be dead than being a battle royale 😂😂😂
Ubisoft becoming the new Konami
Cool. Bring back Splinter Cell. 🤷🏾♂️
Ok look siege had a good run but lets think about something that was amazing and in the same vein.....vages 3!?!? Am i right?😅
I refuse to buy ubisoft day one.. will take years and years to earn trust.
It all started with the downgrade from that gameplay reveal. What a shame.
Watch dogs 2 is the best
They were all very Mid games so I'm not surprised
Legion was the worst in the series
watch dog is terrible
