This was a Roy Hobbs moment for Pete. Honestly, Hollywood couldn't have come up with a better scenario. But I've always thought that baseball is a mirror of real life and our society. There's bad times and good times; there's stumbling and there's redemption; there's dark days, but there's always tomorrow. Pete needed this moment. The Mets needed this moment. The fans needed this moment.

The greatest HR in our team's history is the one Mike Piazza launched against the Braves during the first baseball game in New York after 9/11. Nothing's ever topping that one. But.
The *second* greatest HR in Mets history was the one Francisco Lindor hit on Monday to send us here after the season we'd had up to then. I say "was," because Pete Alonso just hit the only homer that ever possibly could have unseated Lindor's. Everything about it: the possibly last at-bat as a Met, the Brewers fans laughing at the dropped pop-foul, the bat trip from the previous night, the way the season began with a Milwaukee sweep? It was perfect.

As a Mets Fan nearly all my life, I also get to say I HATE the Yankees. I cheer on Any and Every team that play against The Bronx Bummers. On a depressing day I watch the recap of the 1969 World Series. I sincerely hope that, on such a depressing day, you watch the Last Four games of the 2004 Playoffs as well as YOUR World Series.

You and me both! I do respect Judge and Soto, of course, because I’m also just a huge fan of baseball. I really want to revisit the 2004 and 2018 series, those were the most profound for me. I was also able to see the 2004 parade with my grandfather, we got to share that together in Boston, and he loved those Sox till the day he died! The team remains my bond with him forever

Absolutely right my man, I would never compare the two teams or their spending (and lack thereof from the A’s) - just a fun baseball experience represented by an epic cinematic moment!
(Brewers committed over $120 million this year, so hardly “Moneyball” compared to the A’s, but I feel you for sure because the Mets are on another level with their payroll. The Brewers also spent one of the lowest amounts of money per win, very Moneyballesque, which is pretty cool!)

Moneyball? Didn't this team massively overspend on talent that got them nowhere and have to unload some of it? Pete Alonso is currently on a $20.5 mil contract for just one year lol.

they really aren't though. Yes we have a massive payroll, but a lot of that is tied up in players not even on the roster. And a massive reason for our success in the second half of the season are all the pitchers we picked up for cheap, and the forgotten players like Iglesias Bader and Taylor who were all cheap.
