Erling Haaland was just heavily criticized by Roy Keane after the Man City vs Arsenal match. Erling Haaland is not a great footballer, outside of goalscoring. Could we see Julian Alvarez potentially leave Man City and go to a different club so he can be the main star?

Even though he’s the top scorer in both the Premier League and the Champions League, it’s great that you’re watching the games and observing the limitations that Haaland has in his game. Fans don’t know football at all, they think that a player is automatically good because of their stats and yes he has good numbers, anyone who’s watched Man City games this season knows that he’s not always been at his best.

His numbers are excellent, but I think we need to have some uncomfortable conversations surrounding Erling Haaland in regards to his big game performances and it explains why he doesn’t have a Ballon Dor to his name. Since the start of last season, he’s had 0 goals and 0 assists against Real Madrid in both legs of the champions league semifinals, Manchester United in the FA Cup final, Inter Milan in the Champions League final, Arsenal home and away this season and in the Community Shield, Liverpool at Anfield twice and in the Community Shield last season and Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
It’s not just the fact that he had 0 goals and 0 assists in those games, he had what less than 10 touches in those games as well. Someone who’s seen as a “Ballon Dor contender” and a “world class striker” doesn’t touch the ball in high profile games. He struggles whenever he goes up against top defenders like Gabriel William Saliba Virgil Van Dijk etc, look at what Antonio Rudiger did to him last season in the first leg of the champions league semifinals. The reason why Pep won’t drop him is the fact that his presence creates space for the other players on the team, on the ball he has little to no impact whatsoever. Roy Keane said that beyond his goals he’s like a “League Two player” especially since his overall buildup play is poor and you don’t get enough of him when he’s not scoring. When talking about Haaland people need to differentiate between great goalscorer and great player, just because you score a lot of goals that doesn’t mean you excel at other areas of the game and this has been well documented in some of these big games at Manchester City. There’s a feeling that they need to drop him for Julian Alvarez, regardless of how he plays, I just don’t see that happening.
These big games are exposing Erling Haaland’s weaknesses. The Manchester City vs Arsenal game is another example of this. His goalscoring ability is well documented no one is arguing against that but my issue when people think that the only thing that a player can be good at is scoring goals. For me, he’s only a great goalscorer and for that reason it’s difficult for him to be seen as the best player in the world he’s only the best striker in the world.
The reason for that is because he doesn’t contribute a lot to the game when he’s not scoring and a lot of these big games he’s taken out of the game too easily. Some of the blame can be down to the Manchester City system because he’s basically a pure striker in the team, in their system they rely on creativity and he’s not going to get involved in their buildup play meaning that he’s a passenger in the team when he doesn’t score. He’s nullified way too easily and that’s something that he has to work on and will do so since he’s 23 years old and we often forget that. Everyone will say that Gabriel and Saliba locked him up as yes he poses a threat and every time Haaland has gone up against them this season, 0 goals and 0 assists, but the reason why I won’t say that is because he’s had a lot of quiet performances in high profile games. His general play is just very poor and even if you’re so good at scoring goals, in games where you’re unable to be impactful you have to help the team in other ways.
Agreed haaland is nothing but a goal scorer and nothing else he can never be regarded as a world great if he continues playing like this thank God messi won the ballon dor
@@mikelbaningo6407 I’m not paying money to watch a guy who’s gonna score 50 tap ins a season. Even though scoring goals is the most difficult thing to do, that’s why the “Golden Boot” exists as that award alone is a reflection of how elite your scoring ability is throughout a season. I agree that it’ll be difficult for Haaland to win the Ballon Dor because no matter how many goals he scores, you can’t just use goals at the sole metric to determine the best player in the world and he does nothing when he doesn’t score

I been saying this Haaland respectfully is just not that guy and he never will be yes he can score goals but as a overall footballer he is garbage how he is on the starting 11 at Man City makes no sense to me its like he is getting paid to stand there and exist because he contributes absolutely nothing to every game
Agree with all of your points , Haaland struggles with low blocks as he lacks basically every technical attribute needed to break one down - his ball control is not that good, poor dribbling , poor link up , etc... In recent matches it seemed as if his finishing (especially with the head) was equally as bad.
But I think where he shines is on the counter, more specifically sprinting in behind ,receiving a through ball
(many times provided by KDB) and slotting it low past the keeper . This seems to be his "one trick" and he is very good at it.
Shame that he plays for such a possession/control/positional team like Man.C , I'd like to see him in a more transitional/chaotic side like Liverpool for example, where he would be free to make those crazy runs instead , and not just sit in the box surrounded by a low block defence.
Yeah this is a great point. Like the Arsenal match I know Arsenal basically packed the box the whole match but he literally couldn’t do anything even if he wanted to bc of the way city plays. Him at pool could he pretty sweet.

@Model_Roe I personally don't rate WC influnece like that so e.g I think messi should've won in 2018, but rodri should've won in 2023. But I do understand that this is the process of how it is with INT tournaments so i wasn't complaining. I wouldn't say he sucks in general just because off the ball he causes so much trouble. But i would say it is a reality to check to those who genuinely tried to argue he was the best footballer itw. For me he'll never be the best player itw, as of right now as he's fundamentally flawed. Someone like messi I'm ngl argubly ruined the sport he was the best itw if you took g/a away. But the goals and assits were just gravy he just happened to be the best at it. Now people only determine ability by stats so now we get a haaland situation lol

Hes the worlds vest small game player at the moment, in the right team, a team that played with more traditional wingers and a decent number 10, nobody wpuld have time to notice his weaknesses

i feel like Haaland most train with his ball controll with the feet become better with his movement/dribble and doing that Quick once he has unlocked that ability i think he would became so much deadly with his pure finishing like Zlatan, he is still very young and can develop troughout his career. And for the People who said Erling Haaland is overatted has literally zero clue about football ,every player has his weakness and for Erling part he just lack the movment with the ball it takes time to became better player. His Stats for last season is argubly the best Stats for a ST in Premier league history and he is still 23 for me he isn’t overatted and im Madridsta.
He is overrated because for all the media hype he has gotten he delivers absolutely nothing he needs to learn creativitiy or how ot be more creative and think outside of the box learn to get past defenders regardless of whats happening and find a way to get in the box he seems very one dimensional in his thinking

@@grettfcI agree no one is arguing against his ability as a goalscorer, but no matter how good you are at scoring goals, players can be elite in other areas of their game and I don’t see that with Haaland. I get that players have different roles and the City system doesn’t help him at times, but he doesn’t add much to the team unless he’s scoring

He's only as good as his supply and his supply has been cut in half with Gundo and marhez leaving we should of kept them both one more season the title would have been wrapped up by now he had KDB Gundo marhez jack all on form feeding him last season this season KDB been out jack been out and out of form Gundo marhez gone so only had Phil consistently other wise we would of had another treble this season on doubt
