One of your best vlogs and I agree with you wholeheartedly. This is something I’ve been telling my wife (Filipina) before and especially after the election. I have followed the Philippines since the 80’s and have traveled there multiple times. As an American I believe, like you, that the U.S. and PI are interdependent and rely on each other to fulfill needs. Nothing wrong with that and let’s hope it continues for many years to come.

Yup! Philippines is rich in resources, but people's pay rates are low. Why? Because the oligarchs are pocketing the money. Solution: stop corruption. But many gave up on this because corruption has been practiced for a long time. People just accepts them. Instead, they're going overseas for better future. Our politicians know that very well.

China has already invaded Phils. in silent ways: businesses , they have their own schools , culture /chinese tradition which Pilipinos adapted , chinese food products and etc... people are consuming.
The invasion started decades ago. Chinese businessmen now control the economy of the Philippines. Corruption has contributed a lot to the takeover. Bottom line - the US will pursue policies which are in their national interest, not in their allies’ interest. They abandoned Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq and allowed the division of Korea. The US does not need foreign bases anymore, the next war involving the US mainland will be with ICBMs, space-based weaponry and submarines. It is unlikely that China will stop commercial voyages in the disputed areas of the sea since China depends heavily on exports and transportation of its products on maritime delivery. Besides that, China colonized countries by investing heavily in other countries especially on natural resources with the use of corrupt politicians. No war needed, just bribery.
Not really a matter of being invaded but influenced by the Chinese. Look up the term, taipan. There are Filipinos of Chinese decent that have been influential just as much as the Spaniards before the annexation of the Philippines. And it’s intriguing to see actual Chinese speaking Pilipino/Tagalog as they too are melting within the Filipino culture! Also, if you look at Vietnam where there are some French influences in their culture!

I recently lost my job at the age of 45. In addition to having access to Tricare and VA healthcare, I also receive a 9K military pension. I'm thinking of selling or renting my house and moving Philippine with my cash, assets, and 401(k). What are some good passive income opportunities there?
Is it time for a career shift or should I consolidate my investments into a single account? If I go for the latter, how do I do it right, and what could be the drawbacks? Plus, with a $200K property sale on the horizon, should I combine my investments or diversify them across different markets?

It makes sense to consider a financial advisor at this stage, but delaying retirement might be a smarter choice
