  • Yonex released the latest racket from the Astrox head-heavy series - the Astrox 77 Pro. Engineered as a racket that is 10mm longer (and the longest shaft we've seen on a racket), the Astrox 77 Pro introduces Yonex's newest Flex Fuse technology that absorbs the shock from your shots and provide you with a more comfortable hitting experience.
    We've always struggled when reviewers tell us that the racket feels "powerful", "stiff", "responsive". WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? To ground those assessments, we came up with the MTAS scale, that measures and confirms or bust myths around what the rackets actually are, or aren't.
    In this review, we'll put it to the test against Yonex's flagship head heavy racket - the Astrox 100 ZZ.
    Let us know in the comments down below what you think!

    It would be good to see reviews with both 4u and 3u model in the future. It would be viewers and buyers a better idea. Also good to know if you are using 3u or 4u and the string.

    I think your explanation on flex is flawed. The flexier, the easier to generate power exactly because it has a whip effect. Thats why flexier rackets are recommended to beginners. Only as you get better technique and strength will you be able to use stiffer shafts to generate power.

      Hey, I appreciate your response. I see where you are coming from and i can somewhat agree.
      It could be easier for beginners to generate more power on a flexible racket. and to add on to that, it probably feels more comfortable too. The flex might absorb some of the impact. Hence, flexible rackets are recommended for beginner.
      but for professionals, most, if not all their rackets are stiff. this is to maximize the efficiency of power transfer.
      do you have the same view?

      @@MoreThanASwingi believe professional use stiff racket because their arm already strong. using stiff racket will give more accurate shot compare to flexible racket. so professional will choose stiff racket for that accurate shot.

      @@MoreThanASwing I see it this way:
      The racquet flexes due to inertia and air resistance when it is swung. Every racquet is designed to reach a maximum flex under a certain load, which will be reached at a certain swing speed. Above this swing speed, the racquet will flex to its maximum deflection, and below this speed the racquet either remains straight or rebounds to its original shape if it's decelarating from a faster speed (You can observe this in slow motion videos of smashes). When the racquet rebounds from flexed to straight, it imparts extra speed to the shuttle, let's say, 10km/h.
      A more flexible racquet is designed to flex when swung at 70km/h (random number for illustration purposes). If a beginner player is able to swing at 70km/h, and the racquet decelerates to 50km/h after hitting the shuttle, he gets the 10km/h boost from the shaft: the shuttle flies at 80km/h. Now if an advanced player swings this racquet at 100km/h, and it decelerates to 80km/h after hitting the shuttle, the raquet does not provide any boost as it is still moving faster than 70km/h and cannot straighten. Hence the shaft provides no boost to the advanced player's shot. The shuttle flies at 100km/h.
      Now let's take a stiff raquet designed to flex at 100km/h. The beginner player only swings at 70km/h, so he is unable to swing fast enough to flex the racquet. The shuttle flies at 70km/h without any boost. Conversely, the advance player swings at 100km/h and the racquet decelerates to 80km/h after hitting the shuttle, causing racquet to flex and rebound, giving the speed boost to the shuttle. The shuttle flies at 110km/h.
      This also applies to slower shots such as drives. A more flexible racquet can flex and rebound to give additional repulsion to the shuttle, whereas a stiffer racquet will be below the threshold speed to flex, so all the power needs to come directly from the player's swing. One benefit is that these softer shots may be more accurate when the racquet isn't flexing.
      This is definitely an oversimplification, but it's purely for illustration. The "best" racquet flex is the one that fits the player's technique, physical strength and play style.

    seems like this is a good all around racket. Pretty good for everything but excellent in none. The higher Astrox's are more powerful but much stiffer and feel heavier. I like the 88S pro. That seems to be the best of all worlds. I wonder what the Astrox 88s Pro is compared to the 77 Pro? Anyone know?

    would u say that the 77 pro is more suited for players who use wrist more for shots such as stick smashes and people who have a shorter swing?

    • @MoreThanASwing
      @MoreThanASwing  Год назад +2

      Hi Typhonic HS, I can see why you would ask that. Firstly, short swing or large swing, the power of a smash still comes from the wrist.
      However, I agree with the part that 77 Pro is more for front court quick smash and not back court full smash.

    • @MoreThanASwing
      @MoreThanASwing  Год назад +1

      Good catch! It is a purely aesthetic modification we had specially arranged for us by our master stringer in Singapore. With decades of experience under his belt as a master stringer, he was able to produce a unique pattern, almost like a signature! There aren't any pros/cons specifically, but it does not affect the integrity of the strings when done properly.

      Its always a trade off to consider.
      Thinner strings have better repulsion but snaps quickly.
      Thicker strings have lower repulsion but better durability.
      Find your sweet spot. for me, its Nanogy 98 or Exbolt 65.

    hello bro, this discussion is what I'm currently waiting for. I have been using the Astrox 88D Pro for almost a year now, planning to change to the 77 Pro because I want to find a shaft that is more flexible than the 88D Pro. In your opinion, do you think the shaft of the 77Pro is more flexible than the 88DPro? because not a few people say sahft 77Pro is louder than 88DPro. thanks

    • @MoreThanASwing
      @MoreThanASwing  Год назад

      Hi Bangkit! The 77 Pro definitely has one of the most flexible shafts we've seen recently. This could be because of the longer racket length, longer shaft, and even the new graphite materials used in recent rackets. The 88D Pro is definitely stiffer, which makes it slightly less user-friendly. We're curious - what prompted you to look for a racket with a higher flexibility? We'd love to know!

    • @MoreThanASwing
      @MoreThanASwing  Год назад +1

      Hi There, based on my measurements, the 88D Pro is the stiffest racket I have measured. with a 2kg weight, the displacement was 8.9cm. for the 77 pro, the displacement was 10.5cm.
      the most flexible rackets i have measured so far are...
      Arc Saber 11 pro - 10.9cm
      Astrox 99 Pro - 10.7cm

      @@MoreThanASwing OK, I understand and thanks for the answer. Yes, I previously used the Astrox 77 RED before using the 88D Pro, and what I feel is that the 77RED shaft is more flexible and can add a little more power compared to the 88DPro, maybe because the 77RED shaft is more flexible. but when I use 88D Pro the power doesn't really come out for me. then I planned to switch to 77Pro, but I was a little doubtful because many who reviewed the 77Pro were almost stiffer than the 88D Pro. yes, for the level of play, I might say I'm not a beginner haha. thanks.

    The shaft is 2cm longer then the 100zz you cant just put a weight on it and say that one is stiffer then the other by measuring the cm's it goes down..... that is not how physics work...

    • @lucassaw5282
      @lucassaw5282 Год назад +1

      Yes he can. Technically stiffer just means less easy to bend. The 100zz with a shorter shaft certainly makes it harder to bend, which is what he’s describing in the video.
