Thanks for the review Dude! My wife and I are thinking about iPhone after our contract is up in September, we have old 3g my touches slow and clunky like the android opriting system but our phones are so slow. 2.0 upgrade has been a crushing weight for my phone to carry. I like the iPhone4 but not having text to speech on the keyboard might be a deal breaker for me. is there and app for that? Even with the slowness of my G3 phone I love the text to speech feature and use it often.
One flaw that I saw in your browser test. Nexus One had time to finish loading your site where as the i4 never finished loading your site when you did a complete refresh for both. So the test would favor the Nexus One due to your site being fully cached on the Nexus and not fully cached on the i4.
I have an iphone 3g but want a iphone 4. My upgrade is next year and I want to buy the iphone 4 before my upgrade. How much is a 16gb iphone 4 without an upgrade??
N1 loaded the camera first, the iPhone was RIGHT behind it, the lens had just finished disappearing RIGHT after the N1 camera icons appeared meaning it was ready to take a picture.
Very good comparison, thanks for making it. I'm a little surprised how washed out the nexus one's screen looks in the video since the AMOLED should have better contrast than the iPhone's LCD (I would think). I'd find it interesting to know what the brightness setting was on the Nexus One. Also, the laggy zooming/scrolling you experienced on the Nexus One in the browser was due to the flash running. I've set mine to "on demand" plugin loading so flash doesn't load until I press on it.
couple things: 1. Great video! Thanks for the hundreds of amazing reviews and comparisons you have worked so diligently to prepare! I am very grateful. 2. I don't know if you were trying to translate your speech into text at the bottom of the video, but it's an epic fail. It was actually pretty hilarious. 3. Just because the Nexus One won more of your "sub-competititions" certainly does not prove that it is a better phone. Pricing is exponentially better on the iPhone. Thanks! Good video!
Sooo you skipped or made a "draw" the OS round because it was a personal preference call, but you declared the iPhone the winner on the physical looks round -because- you prefer the iPhone? kind of inconsistent don't you think?
in all your videos you move the iphone before you open an app, why? For example, opening safari on this video you did it at 5:38, and in a few of your other videos you do the same before you open notes, is this just for privacy, or what?
The only two problems with this comparison was the browser pinch smoothness, which the iPhone is great at but Android also does just as well when there is no Flash content on the page. With that being said the iPhone does it slightly smoother although doesn't reflow text like Android. The other one was navigation. How did they tie on navigation? Google Maps on Android has turn by turn navigation. Aside from that they are pretty much the same so that should go to Android no?
Excellent object comparison. I am a G1 user with Nexus one and Iphone 4 envy. Still no closer to choosing one though. After seeing many reviews on both I'm sure that I wont be disappointed.
i think you have to klick the refresh button for load the whole website 2nd time, if you klick the link the website loads from cache... am i right? sorry for my english
hi techno bufflo, i notice at the end of your video, nexus one has the capability to voice text message but my xperia which runs 2.1 android doesn't have such feature but it does have google voice search like searching names online but not voice typing. am i missing something or 2.2 has that feature and not 2.1?
Good luck my friend. I ordered a Sidekick 4G last friday which was 7/13/2012. It's already in my post office so I should be able to pick it up by monday. I hope this store sells authentic phones. You know China tends to sell knock offs. But if they're good, I plan to get that Nexus for my wife as well. And equip it with an 1800mAh mugen extended battery.
You are the only reviewer who has continual trouble with the capacitive buttons on the N1. Tap 1-2mm higher than the icon on the capacitive button and it works every single time. is that ideal? no, but its hardly annoying after one day of getting used to that. N1 is awesome!
Just a suggestion for your review, maybe you should edit the video so that as you are talking, it shows on the screen like for example "Features: 1)iPhone supports facetime" and the talk about the phone's speed and such.
Great matchup! Kudos to iPhone user Jon and his impartiality. I especially liked the "Apple's walled off little garden" comment. Being an N1 user, I'd like to mention that I don't experience the problems with the "capacitor" buttons in exactly the same way. Mine are overly sensitive. With the "Google Search" button launching itself with a mere breath sometimes. You missed a chance to demonstrate the simple customizations of N1. I.e., the wallpaper that covers all of your scroll to screens. gj!
hey jon i'm not sure which model of the nexus one u have but the capacitive buttons give me no problem at all as google corrected that problem in the later models it works seamlessly for me and runs really smooth. i love the comparison hope u do one with the desire and iphone4 even though its similar to the nexus one
with the refresh you said the nexus one was ahead on loading techno buffalo from what I saw it loaded about half a second quicker on the iphone... thumbs up if anyone else noticed that.
I love that my N1 hardly picks up any fingerprints and I'm not wasting time wiping it down all the time like my previous phone. Now that the phones/OSes are neck and neck, it's a question of which will pull ahead and I see much more potential in Android.
@Treefinger1 It's a phone, it's a mobile device. They still remember this when designing it so don't make the screen too big to comfortably fit in your pockets. It's a happy medium between usable size and easy to carry.
You forgot to mention the apps you can run on the iPhone and the big variety of apps you can find in the App Store. In addition, jailbreak allows you to do and add a lot of great features to the iDevice - this is one of the reasons for me why the iPhone takes any Android device on the market right now.
@dremoney174 Please explain what "new" feature the iphone came out with that the droid copied???????????? Iphone is actually behind the technology curve.
@eajinabi But the Droid X's UI isn't really Android is it? Its more crappy Motoblur i prefer stock android over that crappy ass Verizon/Motorola "Droid" UI
I had that issue with the capacitive buttons at first but once you get the hang of it then it's really easy. I haven't had the issue you had during this video in months. You just have to push it like you mean it and flatten your finger out a little bit over the icon. I actually prefer this because the capacitive buttons are flush with the rest of the screen and it's easy to accidentally hit them while typing on the keyboard...or it would be if it didn't take a bit more effort to press them.
Can you say 3years development and stability? because iphone was developing multitouch for as long as other os devs were developing a more PC solution MULTITASKING which iphone added 2009q2 or 2009q3 while symbian had it i dun know at least since 2007 and
@drgangster809n what are your sources for this information? I wanna verify what your takling about because im about to buy a nexus one before next friday. Ill wait for the nexus two if its actually coming out. if this is just speculation then i wont waste time.
Noticed how he tapped three or four times on the Nexus to bring up the browser menu? Responsiveness issues? Or, did somebody notice how not smoothly the Nexus zoomed? And how not smoothly the page moved, when he dragged his finger? Or how not smoothly the apps scrolled down on Nexus? Want to sacrifice responsiveness, smoothness, the greatest screen (with which your eyes are constantly in touch), a great App Store, a great music player and looks for a millisecond-grade difference in browser?
I would love it if you would compare youtube upload speeds and experience from each phone. It seems that nexus one upload experience is a little clunkier than expected being that it's a google product. But I'm not sure if it's clunkier than iphone? I'm a nexus one user.
@Paulwander Actually, the iPhone 4 set no benchmarks. It just played catch up. It's still behind other phones spec wise. Realize that the Nexus One came out 6 MONTHS ago in January! The iPhone 4 just meets the Nexus One's, it doesn't surpass them. Okay, the screen is a little higher resolution and it adds a front camera, no big deal. The Nexus One is still faster in use, as seen in the video at around 6:40 when loading RUclips, even when loading Flash(the iPhone can't).
The Iphone browser had the massive advantage of ignoring the video's on your browser test. Not only did the nexus one need to download and render the page, but also download and decode the video. Load speed and scroll smoothness test.
You have to remember the Nexus One supports full flash while the Iphone 4 doesn't so that will be a big difference when looking at web-pages with lots fo flash on.
I just ordered the 3600mAh mugen battery for the sidekick 4G. I think it's really gonna be a great upgrade. We all know how pleasant it is using an android phone. Withg this battery I will definitely be good a whole day no questions asked with constant use. And even more. If you haven't tried one, I recommend getting one asap! Everyone should be using these. Phones should have these type of batteries from OEM. I get mine on eBay too.
@GregorywithaG Actually, HTC started it with the touch screen stuff but Apple was able to commercialize the Iphone better then HTC, therefore giving HTC major competition for their devices.
The reason the Nexus one browser on the nexus one lags that much is because you're using the Flash BETA. but the iPhone is probably a bit smoother still but not with that much of a margin.
FYI in case nobody mentioned it, don't EVER compare talk times for batteries - those are very subjective and depend highly on how they're tested, as well as other settings. Always use mAh ratings on the batteries. They may be more technical and not as easy to "get", but accuracy is where it's at. Also, no matter whether or not you get the nexus on contract, it comes unlocked. You literally CANNOT order a carrier-locked nexus one; and you should compare the unsubsidized AND subsidized prices.
The iPhone 4 is a handsome device, it is a MAJOR upgrade for apple folks (to many of which the 3GS seemed like an insult, as it is virtually "what the 3G should have been to begin with"), but the fact that it ties with a device that is almost a year old - and in an iPhone user's review no less - speaks volumes about how far android had come. The iOS is now over four years old on the market, and the barely two year-old Android beats it hands down. Plus it's an open platform.
@add119 it's about my whole class that has a htc and as u can see the nexus one is stiff and laggy aswell, (on the video) while he's pinch zooming on the browser...
iPhone was far superior back then. Android looked like a beta thing next to it.
lucaspiresr still do
Shane Horne it does not
Android started to compete with IOS after 2014/2015 era, before than iphone was the best in every corner
love how the nexus loads webpages faster while also having to load flash elements ON TOP OF the rest of the browser
IPhone 2g, 3G, 4, 4s, 5, and 5s all suck balls Nexus is where its at. Unless you're an old person or a teenage girl or let's not forget homosexuals.
Wow, do you really have to get all sexist and anti gay over a bloody phone?
***** businessman note 4
iPhone is best
+Reijiropaws lol, no
is it worth buying the 3gs instead of waiting for the iphone 4?
How did you get your hands on both of these fine looking mobile telephones my good sir.
I like watching your iphone 4 videos since I'm thinking of getting one myself. Can you recommend it for one that hasn't had a smartphone before?
will this be as expensive as the 3gs, like 799 or something?
Both phones were released in 2010. iPhone 3GS was released in 2009.
Thanks for the review Dude! My wife and I are thinking about iPhone after our contract is up in September, we have old 3g my touches slow and clunky like the android opriting system but our phones are so slow. 2.0 upgrade has been a crushing weight for my phone to carry. Jon the Retina display has 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi and not 960-by-480 like you have been saying.
N1 loaded the camera first, the iPhone was RIGHT behind it, the lens had just finished disappearing RIGHT after the N1 camera icons appeared meaning it was ready to take a picture.

WHAT SHOULD U GET. AN IPHONE 4 OR A NEXUS ONE. I LOVE THEM BOTH!
couple things:
1. Great video! Thanks for the hundreds of amazing reviews and comparisons you have worked so diligently to prepare! I am very grateful.
2. I don't know if you were trying to translate your speech into text at the bottom of the video, but it's an epic fail. It was actually pretty hilarious.

Thanks! Good video!
@Dilster3k The galaxy S was made before the iPhone 4 was it not? And if you cant even compare it to the iPhone 3gs.
Imma buy a Nexus one tomorrow just to do a side by side between the Nexus one and the Nokia N900....that should be good dont you all think?
Sooo you skipped or made a "draw" the OS round because it was a personal preference call, but you declared the iPhone the winner on the physical looks round -because- you prefer the iPhone? kind of inconsistent don't you think?

Is the background on the nexus one a download able one or is it only for android phones?
Jon Why do you have trouble with the buttons? On my phone they are very responsive! :/
@Quin0rz Which one is a year old though? The meat or the stone?......
Excellent object comparison. I am a G1 user with Nexus one and Iphone 4 envy. Still no closer to choosing one though. After seeing many reviews on both I'm sure that I wont be disappointed.
@EddieandSophieViney
and on the iPhone you even dont have them...so what is better? crapy or none ?
Jon!!! How did the Nexus One tie but the Droid Incredible not tie?????
i think you have to klick the refresh button for load the whole website 2nd time, if you klick the link the website loads from cache... am i right?
sorry for my english
@darkbarutero no....scratch that....go with the Droid X as im assuming you have Verizon?
hi techno bufflo, i notice at the end of your video, nexus one has the capability to voice text message but my xperia which runs 2.1 android doesn't have such feature but it does have google voice search like searching names online but not voice typing. am i missing something or 2.2 has that feature and not 2.1?
which one is easier and less costly to repair?
i hope you know you have another page running on the iphone 4 browser
hey its the neckesus one!does it go wee like nigahigas phone too?
Im thinking of selling my nexus one and buying a iphone 4. Smart move??
are you going to do a video on the swype keyboard
the buttons on the nexus one from what i had read up on had problems with the original models, but was fixed within the next batch.
im digging my nexus one but im having several issues wit and need help fixing them any suggestions

@Targetf why would you need to take the battery out? "oh in case it dies" that's why you recharge it
Just a suggestion for your review, maybe you should edit the video so that as you are talking, it shows on the screen like for example "Features: 1)iPhone supports facetime" and the talk about the phone's speed and such.
I hope you guys have fun all having the exact same phone
Great matchup!

isn't it a bit out of sync to compare N1 with iphone 4? considering iphone 4 is like way younger technology than N1?
Isn't iphone 3g same age as N1?
@youdirtyr Since when has a bike not been allowed to stay up late?
I wish you could somehow compare 3G speeds between AT&T and T-mobile.
@eajinabi But the Droid X's UI isn't really Android is it? Its more crappy Motoblur i prefer stock android over that crappy ass Verizon/Motorola "Droid" UI
@EpiDemic117 What's that Nexus, you can't scroll properly cause flash is screwing with your CPU? Umad Android?
I have no trouble with the nexus one's capacitive pressure buttons
in the iphone how did they put that backrond in the back like the home page
I had that issue with the capacitive buttons at first but once you get the hang of it then it's really easy. I haven't had the issue you had during this video in months. Did your Nexus One have Android 2.2?
what about the nexus one ability to share internet connection via wifi or usb..
Also I think you should test it on how strong it is like if you dropped them wich would be more damaged
capacitive keys have the sensors placed a little higher above the actual icon on the nexus one..just keep that in mind and they should work fine
@jon4lakers can you please tell me what background picture your using? I really want it
@XxFadfoud just curious man .. are you from west island
Just got the nexus one after having the 3gs for about a year ! must say first impressions are very good and the display on the nexus is class.
I cant stop looking at the Nexus One's background... so... mesmerizing. Nexus One FTW!
how did they tie on call quality?
I would love it if you would compare youtube upload speeds and experience from each phone. It seems that nexus one upload experience is a little clunkier than expected being that it's a google product. But I'm not sure if it's clunkier than iphone? I'm a nexus one user.

Why do I feel that the browser on the Nexus One is faster than Chrome on my Galaxy Nexus?
Where did u get the background!
WHAT SHOULD I BUY. NEXUS ONE OR IPHONE 4?????????
how come my nexus one capacitive buttons work fine! I have froyo?
wouldn't 720 video be not enough space for 16gig??
does the speech to text works only in English?
I just ordered the 3600mAh mugen battery for the sidekick 4G. I think it's really gonna be a great upgrade. We all know how pleasant it is using an android phone. Please can you do a review on the htc smart
@glacim lol notification apple invented that? widgets live wallpaper customization?
Thorough comparison. Thanks.
I wish you would compare AT&T 3G network with Tmous. Also, one thing that i love about the N1 is SWYPE!!
You can still load the latest OS onto it.
I'm curious what Apple will have in mind with their version when Verizon gets it at the end of this year.... x-mas season??
@ChicagoRocks1987 And that's why he gave the win to the Evo?
Not a fair browser test, flash plugin on nexus one should have been on demand or off. It's a fact that flash slows a bit down.
The reason the Nexus one browser on the nexus one lags that much is because you're using the Flash BETA. but the iPhone is probably a bit smoother still but not with that much of a margin.

@mw2superbomb17 Not necessarily. Depending on the iOS version installed, you may not be able to unlock an iPhone via jailbreaking.
Your from montreal too?
the iphone 32gb unlocked in europe costs 780EUR, so wtf are you on about on price
