PROCEDURE
1. Explain the procedure to the patient.
2. Perform hand hygiene and gather all equipment.
3. Lower side rail.
4. Assist client in the appropriate position.
5. Done gloves.
6. Place towel across client’s chest and shoulders.
7. Run warm water in the washbasin.
8. Moisten face with a warm, damp washcloth.
9. Apply a generous amount of shaving cream or lather soap.
10. Pull the skin taut.
11. Using an electric or manual razor, shave in the direction of skin growth using short smooth strokes.
12. If using manual disposable razors, dip the razor into the water periodically and shake off excess
water.
13. Allow the client to rinse face with cold water or use a damp cold washcloth to clean the area.
14. Pat and dry and apply aftershave moisturizer as desired.
15. Reposition client and raise side rails.
16. Discard equipment appropriately, remove and discard gloves and perform hand hygiene.
