    It's not always about speed and height..... Close fly-byes are always a great perspective, but it's easy to go wrong. Confessions welcome below..... :)

      Tripod mode doesnt change stick speed, just limits drone speed.

      @IaninLondon  4 года назад +3

      @DeNFlix UK it also slows down the turns and definaetly smoothgs things out for you. Without any manual adjustments on the Fly App for the Air 2, it's the only thing we can do....

      @@IaninLondon Try Yaw in normal mode, then in tripod mode, they are the same speed, i use resistant bands to slow it down, but would be much better with in-app settings for the joystick sensitivity.forum.dji.com/thread-41995-1-1.html

      @UCdtTOJgynqcRQ70GjXZ7hmw Okay; will do; have to admit, after all these years I have gained a very soft touch on the sticks so I tend not to notice too much. I really hope they bring in some adjustments soon on the Air 2; seems crazy the Mini has it but the Air 2 doesn't....

    I was just starting to practice flying low up cloughs & rivers, and pretty chuffed with the results, when the lockdown came. Yeah, flying over even the shallow water in the cloughs can be a bit nerve-racking, especially when you're following the little falls & cascades of a clough. So far, it looks worth it, though, and I'm looking forward to more when the time comes.

    • @briancummings4912
      @briancummings4912 4 года назад +1

      Yes I tried that but didn’t turn off obstacle avoidance and it ended up in the river! It must have worked out that it needed to be lower as there were overhead branches, the bottom sensors don’t see water. It set down on the water, I pushed the left stick forward and I took off only to dance over the water like a dragonfly. I tried to get the drone over to the bank but I was fighting obstacle avoidance all the way and it ditched 🤢

    If you have the Fly More package with the Mavic Mini the cage should be excellent for this, stopping you from strimming the flowers and pushing them away from the props so you don't crash if you go too low. Last year I flew a lot over bluebells using the Parrot Anafi with prop guards on and it was great. The Anafi was ideal because it is quiet and has no sensors to complain or ignore. Now the Mavic Mini with its cage (and operator number sticker as it is now over 250 grams) is the obvious choice.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  4 года назад

      Yes. Just be aware that the prop cage can also act as a sail and make it more sensitive to the wind. It's also good at getting caught on twigs if your'e flying higher amongst trees.... otherwise all good 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @MartinWillett
      @MartinWillett 4 года назад

      @@IaninLondon That all makes sense. I'll never take the little bit of gossamer out in the wind again after seeing it being blown backwards (relative to the direction I was intending flying) while over a lake. I thought the Mini might be my travel drone but it's just too light and travel tends to be to places which are breezier than home. The Air 2 is the best all-round drone if you have to take one. But to be fair I never take just one if I can help it. Who can get enough flying with a mere three batteries and one drone? Not me. I think my personal best, so far, is a nine battery session, but I could easily beat that if I didn't mind being single again.

    Hi Ian, one thing I noticed when flying my Mini 2 like this at low level over a mill pond was that it was much more affected by wind gusts which caused the drone to rise, or more crucially suddenly drop by as much a 6 feet! That was a bit un-nerving, so switched to Mavic Pro, and no, problem at all. The Mini 2 is not as stable at maintaining height above a surface as the mavic pro, and I suspect the mavic Air is. It's just too light, and probably doesn't have the same sophistication in the downward sensors.
    Just thought I'd pass that on...

    I'm scared to do that, I tried to fly once over the water and once over the field nearly entirely covered by thin layer of snow. Both scenarios are not recommended in the manual. According to log files it lost visual positioning signal and regained it with different altitude readings, barometer readings were somewhat random likely due to wind and result was descent in both cases. Over the water it was likely from 4m to 1m in 10 seconds, over the ground it was from 6m to -1m perhaps in two seconds and hopefully it happened just before drone was about to fly over wide ditch in the terrain. So it disappeared below line of sight, but it was ok. I was confused seeing it crashing into the snow and still hearing it with camera image showing tracks from cross-country skis.
    I don't trust my Mavic Mini much

    Very nice test, Ian. With close up video, it would also be interesting to see the effects of some ND filters on the Air 2, on the motion blur. I have been watching some YT clips but none go as close to GL as yours. I also like the gimbal screen direction fingertip control feature on the Air 2. Moving across landscapes at low level would allow you to film sweeping arcs whilst flying in a linear direction. Low level gives a unique perspective, for single frames as well. Thanks for posting - from New Zealand 👍 😎 🍺🍺

    We had some amazing flowers that attracted the most incredible array of wild life including Dragon Flies which gave a display
    But the field owner decided to destroy the lot. Narown path for walkers and no care for the wild life
    Would have been a wonderful subject for my Air 2

    I assume I could get similar results with my Mavic 2 with the sensors off. Could also use the tripod mode and although very slow it is safe. In post you can always speed up the video to give the impression of faster flight and no one would know. One question though, would this be safe over water? Would not have to worry about any hills but only waves.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  4 года назад

      Yes, I did a simliar video a year or two ago using the 2 Pro over rapeseed. Just disable the sesnors. Watch out over water as one slight wave and bye bye.... But if i'ts very flat calm water, then you know the ground isn't creeping up... :)

      @@IaninLondon With water I was concerned about how the drone sees the surface and the reflection possibly causing it to get confused and possibly take a dive.

      @@IaninLondon can I grab a quick bit of advice from you? I am creating real estate videos here in Spain and want to do pool flyovers, by the same logic if I fly at a constant speed with no hovering or stopping I could safely fly quite low over the water?
