  • There were a lot of bad reviews for this item at Home Depot and I almost decided to wait a few days to have a different brand shipped out. I decided to go for it and give it a try. The instructions on the package are not that clear but it makes more sense when you take a look and see how it works. I hope this helps someone.

    This is a good example of how taking the time to learn how a tool works will make the job successful. I've seen so many people fumble with the whole assembly not knowing that this is two tools in one; the other being a faucet handle puller. This works the same as most other compression sleeve/faucet handle combos until you get the specialized ferrule removers like Pasco that cost 3X as much.

    Thank You, Thank You! I was about to give up and call a plumber. However, after viewing your video, I was able to remove a badly stuck compression ferrule. Wow, I've watched a lot of videos and you are the only that has unscrewed the main handle from those puller arms. Why didn't I think of that? A lot of comments on other videos were saying how those got in the way and I guess none of us figured out to unscrew it from the arms. Good job! Now to see if I have the strength to pull this off. I used another smaller one and it wouldn't budge and when I unscrewed it when I wasn't making progress the end thread was cracked. Later..... Bingo! It worked great! In case anyone is interested, the Ridgid One stop wrench to install angle stops and compression couplings are wonderful tools. I don't think I could have accomplished this without them.

But I was in the middle of a sink replacement project, and HD was right around the corner, so I decided to give it a try. The HD employee even suggested that I don't buy it, and leave the existing ferrule (sleeve) and nut on the copper pipe. I didn't want to do that so I purchased the Husky anyway. Thanks SO much for taking the time to post the video. I easily was able to remove two nuts/sleeves with this tool.

    Thank you for your invaluable tip in using this Husky tool (sold by Homedepot) as a sleeve puller. It worked quite well for me with no damage to the copper water line. I think this is a better or updated design than a similar one sold by Lowes under the name BrassCraft Faucet Handle Puller which does not have the brass connector to the compression nut. That other model uses the pincer hooks to pull the nut which can be difficult and problematic for a lot of users because of the design; the hook tends to pull off the nut. For this Husky sleeve puller, it works very nicely the way you recommended it without having to deal with the problematic pincer hooks.

    There are some models (from other manufacturers) that don't include that brass piece that screws onto the nut - you actually have to use the shoulder pieces on that one, and clip them behind the nut. Such models do not work well.

    I don’t remember why I needed this tool once, like 20 years ago, but I did. I don’t remember whether I had to put a different finished stop on, or the threads were crossed, but my helper actually had one. Usually you can just use the old nut and ferrel, but for what ever reason, that wasn’t going to work in this particular application. Anyway, my helper actually had one of these. He didn’t seem so confident in using it either, but I was in a jam and ready to try whatever. It worked like a charm. The ferrel d@mn near just fell off of the pipe. The other guy was like, “jelk yeah,” when it worked as well. I think he must’ve stayed at a Holiday Inn, that night..
    What’s crazy is I started a new job today, and the very experienced service plumbers that I met, had never heard of such. You never stop learning as a plumber, because they won’t let it stay the same. I’m sure they’ll teach me about things that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. I’ve still never had to use one again though.

    Thanks for making this video, I have been using this with that prong looking contraption and it has been a pain! Your video just made my job easier - sorta ;) Question, what do you do when the pipe is crimped from the ferrule being overtightened from when they were originally installed? I have had to open up the wall and cut off the bad section then solder on a new section for the new valve. Is there another way that you know of for when the pipe is damaged? Thanks

    • @NoppeNband
      @NoppeNband 2 года назад

      I had the same issue, and just kept cranking on the puller tool and it compressed the copper pipe down and got the ring off. Installed new parts and no leaks.

    • @mermaidmuncher2708
      @mermaidmuncher2708 2 года назад

      It took some serious cranking but my puller got the old compression ring off, but it also made the copper tubing narrower, almost like it was factory reduced from where the ferrule was stuck all the way to the end of pipe. That made the pipe to narrow for the new valves compression ring to compress onto the pipe. Ended up cutting about 3/4” off the end of pipe and taking the escutcheon ring off the wall to give me just enough room to install new valve. I’ve never seen a pipe flared so evenly like that caused by someone torquing way to hard when installing old valve. It would have been better to see if old nut and ferrule would have worked with new valve.

    There's two different ways to use that for that purpose. In some cases the copper is too long to thread the outer piece on. In that case you can skip that part and just use the inter piece, but keep the jaws attached. In that case you then you pull on the compression nut. I should say, this has only happened to me twice.

  • @HemanLee
    @HemanLee 4 года назад +1

    I had one that was so stubborn it started to stretch and distort to copper pipe, it made it worst. Sometime its better not to remove unless you can not get a good seal, especially if you only have a small stub exposed and not room to do a cut-off.

  • @travisk5589
    @travisk5589 3 года назад

    I had the old design from home depot. It didn't come with the thing that screws into the old nut. They expected you to try to hook onto the nut with the 2 arms off the tool. Needless to say it didn't work. It was the biggest piece of shit ever and I threw it in the trash.
    Today I had 2 that were stuck and I resulted to scoring the olive/compression ring and prying it off. I goggle it once again and saw the See jane drill video and her $40 tool. I was about to buy it for future use when I saw the new home depot version the threaded nut adapter. Now I cant wait to get one. My concern the the thread pitch. I still come across the fine thread version of the angle stops like I did today. I see that some of the more expensive tools come with both threads.
    But I also see a 22mm/15mm version being sold for cheap. Its a nicely built tool but the reviews say that it doesn't work with the ones we have here in the states. I really don't want 2 tools in my box.
    Well I guess i will but this one from home depot for now.

    Husky plumbing tools are awful. Just buy RIDGID or a good brand. If hiring a plumber is $100, why try to save a few dollars with cheap tools? Anyways, the major issue with this design is if the compression angle stop has damaged threads or is nonstandard threading (I have seen it before) this tool will not work.
