Hi - enjoyed your video and actually added it to my favorites. I haven't got up the nerve to dead stick my Challenger yet - only been flying it 20 hours or so. Glides like nothing I've ever flown before. Lots of fun. C-IMRF
Thanks, no I haven't done any thermal soaring yet, seems like every time I go flying I don't get much for thermals at all lately.... but I'm gunna try it if I get a good day for it,I'll try and get a video of that also.
I dont know why a pilot would not do a dead stick . As a hang g pilot knows low AOA and a good glide scope is one of safest ways to land. Avoids the deadly base to final turn. Great job in this video in my book. Every pilot should get some sailplane time. Makes you a much better pilot. As in my challenger 2 ive always liked wings with A good glide ratio.
@@Mike-01234 not sure in the challenger2. Its not bad and can be thermaled. In my powered soaring trike its pretty good . I land almost always deadstick.
I am thinking of buying a Challenger 2 XSL with the Rotax 582. Before I do that I would like to get your opinion on the stability of the plane in modest winds of 10 to 20 knots. Is the Challenger more for fair weather flying? Have you had any issues with your Rotax engine since you owned it? Would you buy another Challenger?.. Have you had any concerns about the planes performance? Thanks for taking the time to answer the above questions.. You can respond to my personal email if you like.. GRose@gvrose.com.. Gord.
The CHT temps tell the whole story: the man did not want to burn his engine up, so he shut it down oh, just like he is supposed to do. Is choices for reducing AirSpeed and altitude we're well-chosen and properly executed! This video is another example of why I will never ever have a two stroke engine as my power plant! Yes, four strokes go tits up as well as two strokes, but they do not do it so often, so consistently, and across so many platforms!
No no That was a completely planned Dead stick landing I shut the engine down specifically to do this video and the only reason I mentioned the cylinder head temps is because if they get too cold and you have to start the engine up and go full throttle because you weren't going to make the landing you can have a cold seizure so I just didn't want the cht's to get too cold before I had to start the engine back up if I had to go around. Have actually never had an engine problem yet with the rotax 503.... Great engine..... Bulletproof if you watch your gauges and know how the engine works......

Very nicely done. In my 120+ hours in my Challenger II I've had to make one precautionary landing.
Enjoyable!!..I must admit the a/c glide performance was better than I expected....Rgds....Laurie
The old Cherokee PA28 will not do this. :) Thanks for the ride. Enjoyed it.

Pretty slick moves.
gooood pilot-he really knows what he is doing
My prop does exactly the same thing dead stick, just a wee bit of rotation.
Beautiful indeed! Well done!

What kind of glide ratio did you have I heard these pushers usually don't have great glide ratio.

Damn dude nice landing you kept cool ! Sweet !
Beautiful, indeed!
Thanks for the ride!!
Nicely done....
nicely done
AWESOME flyin .. Dont get any better
How does it fly with the doors on?
What is the glide ratio of Challenger II?
less wear on the tires of course
Excellent landing correction on my spelling.10/23/2021
Awesome, very jealous!
Sweet!!

Challenger II are supposed to handle very well in the wind. I've seen videos of them bucking 50mph cross winds like a champ.
If not fake, was a good performance..if...

Spoiler Alert, maybe. Interesting video, but it seems to have been staged as indicated by the engine starting at the end. Nicely flown anyway.
I never said it was a emergency landing It was a dead stick landing..... As in I turned the engine off and landed dead stick.... Nothing's staged.
