    All this would not have been possible without Maestro Noe's thorough knowledge of the score and his patient rehearsal technique that is no less than genius. He DID have the score completely memorized, even in rehearsal, and his precise beat patterns and expressive cues are all a textbook for anyone studying this monumental score. Be sure to watch the video of the final rehearsal to view the Maestro's amazing control of the orchestra and their intense, at times delicate response. These students had to be TAUGHT this music (at times, measure by measure) in two and a half days, since most had NO IDEA how their part fit with the totality. I was there for several rehearsals and the performance and am still thrilled by the success of these amazing students and their superb teacher/conductor!

    What blows me away, besides the actual performance, is the conductor did it all from memory. He did not have his sheet music in front of him. If he did, it appeared to be hidden well.

    I’m from Kansas, but my cabin mate at Interlochen this past summer was the 2nd chair bassoonist in the orchestra, which is crazy because he was a freshman at the time. I long to play in an all state ensemble as advanced as this one. If 20% of the players in the Kansas all state orchestra were at the TMEA all state level, I’d be happy

      An Alpine Symphony was equally amazing as The Rite of Spring. Both pieces are super fun to play and listen to, but it's more impressive to say "I played The Rite of Spring in high school" than it is with An Alpine Symphony since the Sacre is more prestigious. Who could forget its unforgiving devilishly difficult rhythm?? But mastering it and performing it, just the satisfaction and overall sense of accomplishment from performing Millennium Canons and The Sacre and saying "We just did that," is so rewarding, even more so since we did it as high schoolers. Thanks to everyone who made these recordings possible, including our inspiring conductors! But you're right, nothing will ever come close to our Alpine or Sacre recordings!

      Not really the attitude to have about music education. Definitely Texas produces some amazing quality, but no other state is horrible at their All State level. Florida, Michigan, Indiana, California, Nevada all produce great All State ensembles. Obviously this is a phenomenal performance, but that competitive attitude is super toxic to the arts.

    • @cunurelive
      @cunurelive 4 года назад +9

      @@PlushChronicles I agree. Im from Illinois and the music program here builds amazing musicians and has in wind bands, orchestras, jazz, etc for decades. Our All State groups are amazing as well as most states. Texas bands are actually viewed as a negative stereotype here. When you call something a texas band, you are referring to having many many players with not enough dynamic contrast, with great technical ability, but lacking emotion in the music. I feel that might not be exactly true, but the point is all places around the country have their strengths and weaknesses and Texas bands are not all without fault.

    Is this the whole state? I'm from Florida, we do entire state here but from viewing the Texas all state band performances, the state was split into something like 6 separate sections. Also, is this 9th-12th grade or only 11th-12th?

    • @markyochoa
      @markyochoa  2 года назад +2

      Well, it's kind of complicated. It is the whole state, but the performing groups are broken up into sections, and the audition process is also broken up into sections. When you first audition it's within your region (lets say 50 mile radius), and then a cut advances to a bigger audition region, and another cut advances to all-state. The evening before the convention starts you undergo another 3 auditions to determine your state chair. From there you have your choice of Symphony, Philharmonic, Symphonic band, Sinfonietta, Concert band. But there are also 2 path-ways to state depending on how big your school district is. If you belong to a smaller school district you can opt to audition the "5A" route, for which there are a couple "5A" all-state groups, but you can't join the "6A" groups unless you audition through that pathway. That sounds convoluted lol.
