Just a kind of funny aside about the battery operated candles. I was a hired caregiver for an elderly woman who grew up in what we now know as "off grid" living -- a while before there was a grid. We were out in the country where storms sometimes caused power outages. I went to Dollar Tree and got her several of the battery operated candles. She was just so amazed & pleased by them. Candles without smoke and without danger of fire. She never lost that sense of "wonder" at them. She has since gone Home to be with the LORD, but the time spent with her and hearing her many stories from throughout her lifetime will always be precious to me.
I literally just found a dandelion plant growing by an abandoned building. I was so excited, I dug it up as carefully as I could and brought it home. They are hard to find in my area because they have been so heavily sprayed with weed killer. My husband said I can keep it as long as I plant it in a separate container and not in the ground ,lol. I hope it lives so I can one day harvest it for all its wonderful medicinal benefits! 🙂
I find since we don't run the overhead lighting in the evenings, we use a small table table lamp, we both sleep better. I think because it gives our bodies time to slow down and relax. Some of my herbs are coming in, some still haven't shown, but it's been really cold for us. Many Blessings!!
I just enjoy your channel so much! I moved from upstate Illinois to SW Missouri before the Pandemic. I am just getting my herb garden together! Do you have a video on MEDICINAL herb garden and what to plant that is neccessary to heal the body. Great video!
I have several and just uploaded a more updated one for 2024 but it will not publish until later next month so I will link you to the one I did two years ago: ruclips.net/video/mWp3mE-TENM/видео.html
Thank you Heidi! My sis gave me a light for Christmas that sort of looks like a snow globe. It's electic but has battery back-up. It's such a mood lifter in these dreary days of winter! Love the idea of the battery lights! 🙂 Blessings! 💜
I guess I'm going to have to set some time aside to binge watch your herb videos. I haven't planted anything yet but this is my very first year doing any planting. I look forward to small successes and learning from my mistakes. Which it looks like I've already made a mistake by not getting anything in the ground last fall😢
I never plant in fall here, it is pointless as hardly anything will grow through winter but you have to keep in mind that Rosemary is a perennial and I have been growing them for years, so the rosemary I am showing in the video is not from a fall planting but from plants I put in the ground in the spring several years ago
You're looking great Heidi in those blue colors 🎉 thanks for bringing so much information to us...and a lot of joy with it. 😊 and those batteries are great, I'm using them myself...may God bless you.
Feeling green with envy over your rosemary. I live in northern Michigan where I have yet to have rosemary make it through the winter. Stuck one in my greenhouse this year so hoping it didn't die.
We still have snow on the ground....but I did see some catnip peaking through. With the snow cover we had this year it protected the plants from the bitter cold that followed. Of course my cats are the ones that made me aware it was coming up! I will be getting in my order today or tomorrow for seeds...finally. I need to get them started indoors soon! Thank you again for the great content and all your hard work teaching all of us. God bless!!
Heidi, love your herb videos and I sure wish my rosemary was still gowning. Heidi, what good information oh the herbs as they flower and how to harvest. Thank you so much for another wonderful Herb profile.
I'm just putting some Lemons in the dehydrator today and steam canning mandarin oranges citrus is a great price so time to put some on the shelf for my husband and me !
Pro tip.. relax and tell people like a friend is visiting and don't present. If needed get a rode clip on lav microphone that will pickup a soft voice so you can relax. It will make the videos more relaxed and enjoyable. All the best ❤
I am not here to be a pro, I am here to be me and share information as I have been doing on here for 7.5 years. I do not need to relax because what you see is the real me. If you go back and watch my first videos with the poor lighting and sound you would see me NOT relaxed, when I am nervous, I am far more sedate rather than the other way around. I have no desire for a wearable mic as it would be more of a hinderance than a help While my videos may not be up to "pro" standards, I am fin with that but for some reason I have many loyal followers that have stuck it out from the very beginning in 2016 when I actually WAS hard to hear due to poor camera and editing equipment
Heidi, will you please take us with you on your journey of how to forage both medicinal plants and mushrooms. You make these ways easy to understand and not to be fearful
In my opinion, Misfits Market carries the BEST bacon in the world...I *THINK* it's Niman Ranch's Ends and Pieces! I can't find it anywhere else. I highly recommend it!
Thank you Heidi! You inspired me to do a slow walkthrough my herb garden to see what might be coming up.. so many green things starting to poke out of the ground! Yay!! 😊
Battery life, I have been very impressed with the dollar tree copper/silver fairy lights. I have had them last about a month on for 24hrs. 2 strands really can give out ALLOT of light, like a night light.
Thank you Heidi! Snow is still everywhere in my garden. I am looking forward gardening!! I have some allium bulbs to plant from September to December. Have a nice day 😀😀😀
Now I am listening to this video on Rum and comment while I have it muted on yt - call me crazy :) :) I had 3 battery tealights, one was dead. Went looking for batteries but decided to get more tealights with the battery. Those do not last!!!! Need some more batteries .... I ate my first dandelion flower today!
Hi, I like your videos, I have learned a lot. I have a question where is Rain Country, be blessed, Yes the Eternal one is Good all the time even when we think, that every things is going wrong. Be blessed you and your family.
Rosemary grows really good here as does coneflower and hopefully marshmellow,i live southern New Mexico, where its hot and dry weather. It would be nice if it were alittle humid and or rain but then that would bring more of the bugs anyways if i cant grow i order online dried organic herbs. God bless!
We hesitate to put solar panels in our roof because the solar panels company said you need to have your roof/trusses checked to see if they are suitable because heavy winds can rip them off and part of your roof with them. 😱
In the early 70s my mom was heavily on the ban of Chinese goods and buying American products-most people mocked her. By the late 90s many things were almost impossible to avoid getting from China, and she had many people apologizing and lamenting they didn’t listen. At this point a lot more has gone that direction than ever before. People see it now, but it’s just impossible to get away from.
It took me several years to find the right spot where it would stay protected enough from our heavy rains yet still get plenty of sun. Before that I was always losing my plants through the winter but not so much from the cold as from all the rain
As always I love your videos and all of your knowledge . Do you have videos on making your own compost or what soil/ fertilizer you use for your garden? Have you ever used Comfrey tea as your fertilizer ? smells terrible but it works great do you use grow lights when sowing seeds?
I only recently saw there was such thing as pink but have not looked into it. Often times when wild herbs are bred to have different colors, they lose a lot of the medicinal benefits. They will still have some but not as much
I would not call it luck, it is just our climate. However it has a big downside because of all our rain. Every location has its challenges and blessings
@@RainCountryHomestead You are right, every place can have challenges. I am glad you still can harvest your herbs even in the winter months this year. I have cuttings in my windowsill of my rosemary so I can share with my family and friends. My sister shared her cuttings of elderberry and I have them in mason jars sprouting, until it is safe to plant them.
Hi Heidi. Lucky you had no snow. I'm in IL. Didn't you get tons of rain & floods or was that just poor California that was bombarded? Did you ever get a zero degree day or below zero from November 2023 til now Feb. 19, 2024? We've gotten in the teens & A few single digit days but not as much this year as past years.
just wondering if you have ever tried frontier co-op seasoning would really like you opinion- thinking of buying because they don't contain corn by products which I am allergic to- mostly maltodextrin (actually have a large order sitting in my cart lol) will be growing herbs this summer for the first time in containers and your tutorials on herbs are helping so much Bless You
I will look at that- another youtuber mentioned your site and I am glad they did- trying to catch up on all your older videos- so much great info @@RainCountryHomestead
God's morning to you! My rosemary has little white dots on the leaves.they are in a pretty wet area,do you think it is ok to harvest? Also one has some flowers,
Basil likes a lot of sun and most basil are annuals so they do not usually do well indoors. You would need to keep it warm and in a south facing window and even then it may not do well
You can put a mirror behind it. This is an old trick that was commonly used with oil lanterns. There are mirror tiles above our fire place, the kind that was popular in the 70's and we left them because not only do they help make the living room feel a bit bigger, they reflect the light of the oil lamps when in use as well as the string lights
You could use aluminum foil, or cut some foiled paper or maybe cut a piece of flashing for something more permanent. Some of the old candle holders or lanterns had a circle of shiny metal mounted on one side to reflect the light.
Do you use chargable batteries? I'm thinking about starting to buy those & the charger because I'm accumulating more battery powered things. I don't have solar & electricity keeps increasing in price & that will always continue.
My first one was gifted to me by a friend and then I made more plants from the roots. This is best done in early to late spring when the plants start growing and can be done with any mint as shown in this old video: ruclips.net/video/ribSGNrfkRU/видео.html
Just curious.... Do you grow Aloe Vera in the summer? I love that I can bring it inside the house when winter is coming as it thrives in my house. I just love it! (For many things)
Btw.... Have you ever used Rosemary or mint or bay leaves with Rubbing Alcohol for insects?? I'm thinking it would be more effective rather than just water.

I still have seeds from you that I bought from Etsy when you dealt with them. I can't wait to plant those. They all had performed... All perfect.
Those, that you're holding in the photo, are the biggest Echinacea flowers I've ever seen! Wow! 🤩
