This isn't just in Idaho, I have to pay a co-pay for a blood test ($50), I'm ok with that, but then I get a "surprise " bill of $1200 for this procedure a month later. If I don't pay it in 2 weeks they send it to a collector who threatens to destroy my credit and repossess my house.... it's part of my Insurance, but its the insurances bullying tactic
Doc: You have a laceration to your hand. We were able to stop the bleeding Also Doc: Since you have Regence, you’ll have to make another appointment at the front desk to come back and get stitches and wound dressing. I’m booked about three weeks (months) out. Until then, don’t bleed
What a hot mess. Living in a capitalist society has some great advantages. I'm not saying it's wholly evil. But when something that many of us feel is fundamental as Healthcare is run as a business instead of a Right (like education or how religious organizations are in theory run) people suffer. I don't know what the solution is. Doctors certainly put the time in their education and most work hard to deserve a good life and the materialistic stuff that goes along worh success. I've personally always found it deeply troubling that the teachers that get them there are left far behind financially. I'm not suggesting Communism or outright Socialism. I do think Democratic Socialism has some very good ideas that could work. Countries that have Healthcare for all certianly don't have doctors living in the poor house. Private care is still an option in most if not all those countries. Ultimately it's not an easy fix because it's a complicated issue. But I do believe having business executives making Healthcare standards is where most of the problems stem from. I have so many personal experiences fighting insurance for common sense issues. One example, they wanted me to take a more dangerous medication during pregnancy because it was cheaper. After asking "either you're too lazy and didn't read this is a high risk pregnancy/you didn't look to see which medication is more risky or you simply don't care, which is it?" I got immediate "emergency approval" for the safer medication. I can tell you for sure, otfen they deny expecting patient's and their doctors won't question or fight it. Even token resistance can get results because they know they're going to lose. Public outcry is the .most effective tool.
Plus the patient has to pay numerous times for co pays.
Exactly. It will lead to more copays for patients, more visits, reduced comprehensive care. And I guarantee your premiums won't be decreasing.
This is absolutely ridiculous

We certainly can't keep going down the path we are on.
@drdustinportela do you have any thoughts on how to fix it? If so, have or will you do a video about it?
