Excellent video! Great analysis and very well articulated! Makes you wonder why some top pros get to the top only to think they need to make changes rather than continuing to work on what got them to the top.
Thanks Arthur I appreciate your feedback and comment. Yes it is a double edged sword. It seems they are always trying to improve and change and it seems like changing for the sake of it. You are right they need to focus on what got them there. Thanks again!
Ok i only watched this once and i am a little confused because i havent worked much with lines myself. Having said that i think it's brilliant and i will watch a few more times until i understand. She recently went back to her old Korean coach Siwoo so maybe she will get the old motion back. Furthermore as a tinkerer myself i recognize that part of the lure of golf is the constant possibility of improvement. Often it takes me down a rabbit hole I used to love jin-young old swing. So powerful. I suspect she just wanted to keep up with the new young bombers. Thanks for this.
You are welcome and thanks for the comment. Yes I completely understand why they tinker with their motions in hopes of getting advancement and separation between their opponents. Hopefully she finds her old motion as clearly she performed with it. Thanks again!
@@liongolfacademy but the one thing that struck me, and i am sure you have an opinion on this, is whether she is in the middle of swing change which requires time (stuck between old and new) or whether the old swing would be enough. Am i wrong when i look at your analysis to say that technically the new swing has advantages but that her ingrained natural compensations made her old swing better? This is an honest question not an opinion which frankly is above my pay grade.
@bruceford9413 you are 100 percent correct. Swing changes do take time especially at that level where motions are deeply engrained. It is very possible she is stuck in the middle of it all. However I am a true believer that you have a DNA motion in you, and without governing it your body resorts back to it. If she didn’t do anything to her motion and took some time off and picked up the club again her swing will resemble her DNA swing whichever that is. I always focus on students dna swing and work within its limitations and not push them in a direction where their body will need constant maintenance
@@liongolfacademy thanks . If you look closely at my avatar you will see her signature. I love her old swing and have told she was the Best golfer on the planet. But i think she wants more. A tiger like mind but at elite level its never enough. Even fighting swing demons she is so exceptional. I hope your channel does well you have more to offer than you would guess.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes that is a double edged sword the greats have to deal with, after all they are in that position in the first place because they have separated themselves from the field. It must be such a challenge to be in their position, I think they would be better suited to have a voice of reason in their camp to stop them from searching for perfection, sometimes the cost isn’t worth the journey.
@@liongolfacademy If you want to do a video about ruining golf swings do one on Hank Haney. Remember his show on Golf Channel ... where not one person ever got any better?
Shallow down is necessary to compensate the raise of shoulder height and is not the only one measure for this purpose. For left side active downswing, we strech up the left leg and pelvis and make a side bend to create the power to push the club head toward the target, etc. So we have to sink down the spine and pelvis basement, roll back the spine (so the neck is rolled back lower and make the back head looked like lowered), extend the belly to tilt back, flat down the shoulder tips. For right side driving, the backoff at left side help some, the flat down of left upper chest with a drop down of the right side upper chest also helpful to compensate the side effects from right pelvis erection and sidebend from right waist. As for the lady's down swing,at most she should squad down first for a pulling down of the club. This is my opinion on the issue of shallow down. I know it's out of the traditional saying!
Some say push others say pull, it’s all relative with individuals, I would suggest in explanation to keep it open ended and include both thought patterns. Thanks for the comment!
You’re not even close with your assessments. Number analysis.is terrible. Camera views like this are nearly always off due to perspective of camera angle and positioning.
You are so right, I also hate it when the camera angle changes my students setup and impact position. Although sometimes I do take credit for it when it looks better in the after video. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the feedback. It all really depends on the person, sometimes steep swings work. This new buzz word “shallow” is just causing more harm than good for most amateurs and it has also trickled up to some tour players. Thanks for the comment!
How do you say shallowing has ruined her swing? If you mean shallowing late because her first move in the newer swing is her lead arm traveling out away from her and she has to tilt and shallow late to hit it solid then I would agree! Having your lead arm travel away from you like hers does is only good for pull cutters and they never tilt too much because it would create a 2 way miss.. but your right fix posture and get first move to be more down with the arms and she’d be fine again
Everything at the level is like surgery and architecture. There are no positions by mistake. They purposely stopped the hands in front of the chest with much shorter lag, and purposely have an arm travel away so it puts her in a position where she needs to shallow and turn/tilt. This was the ultimate goal (shallow and turn) but at her old backswing position it would never have worked, so they had to manufacture a new one. Trust me on this, they did all of this on purpose, why? You would have to ask them (her coach and her). Thanks for the comment!!
Her old swing is a Ben Hogan/Arnie/ Gary Player over the top move. The loop at the top is very Bobby Jones. Perfect. her new move is like all ordinary college players.
Yes I am unsure why the change, I hope she figures it out and comes back, even if that means to go back to her old move or a hybrid of both to make it better for her to time. Thanks for the comment!
From the limited information, I think miss Ko's new swing uses too much power from the upper shoulder, the trapenzious muscle, that would squeeze the head back and forth more than with the scapula to drive the arm. This need to tilt back the upper chest. For same reason, her wrists run ahead of the right belly. I believe this is the major difference with her previous downswing! This is also the problem of Tiger Woods.I know Tiger is like the God of a religion and risky to criticise anything of him.
Tigers golf swing is not perfect, actually I believe no swing is perfect. However it is perfect for him. I would not teach Tigers old move to anyone looking to have a longer golf career. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for you searching for this! That angle may be tough, and the down the line skips up right at impact but I’ll see if I can work with it. If not I’ll find something.
This guys is completely unhinged. He's comparing the swing of a pitching wedge to that of a 4 iron as if they're somehow going to be identical. Look at the distance to the flag - on the left she's maybe 100 yards out and on the right it looks like 200+. What a bunch of bullshit. He's even got those "crazy eyes." When a golfer makes a significant change in their swing they often get a bit worse before getting better. This is the nature of golf.
@@liongolfacademy There's no way that's the same club. Clearly much longer on the right. Maybe she's extended her shafts or something but that ain't the same club length.
all i heard is blah blah blah blah blah. no help at all.

I think we found the coach that changed her swing 😅
Possibly!

Shallowing is not a good way to explain the transition, it should be to not steepen which is far more important.

The golf swing is nothing more than a chip shot, plain and simple. You just twist your upper body more on longer irons.
Sounds like the next theory - Chip Golf. Thanks for the comment.
Do a celebrity next lol. Bill Murray or Michael Jordan. Hell even Happy Gilmore ;)
