    Not to take away from this great drill, but it was a Pete Cowan tip that absolutely transformed my swing in an instant. It was my one true golf epiphany. Once you take your grip, treat the grip like a towel. Start "wringing out the towel" via opposing action of both hands towards the centerline. I actually now start the "wringing" process as I take my grip. It allows for greater surface ”tension"/contact even as I relax my hands and forearms. Now simply maintain the "wringing of the towel" throughout the entire swing. My ball striking inconsistencies disappeared overnight.

    • @markmontieth8815
      @markmontieth8815 Год назад +1

      You mean squeeze the club with both hands toward the middle as you begin the swing?

    • @andrewtopping1937
      @andrewtopping1937 Год назад +3

      @@markmontieth8815 Never squeeze the grip. It is the kiss of death; creating too much tension in your hands and arms. That said, you can get a nice "tight" grip by starting with the grip in your fingers and "wrapping" the palms around the grip. You should feel nice firm contact between your skin (of the hand) and the grip itself. Now relax your hands and forearms....the grip will still feel solid. After getting a good "hold a bird" grip, simply "rotate" your hands inward (without actually squeezing), towards each other......."wringing out the towel". I maintain this feeling throughout the swing. Jump forward 2 videos from this one and Russ talks about it.

    This is by far your best & most concise video to date. Would love you to continue with this short concise to the point instruction.
    In most of PC's videos with his star pupils i personally find it difficult to fully comprehend accurately with what he is trying to convey. One concept that he continually refers to is "loading the shoulders correctly for the type of shot you intend to play"?. He never elaborates nor explains in any of his videos exactly what he means nor how to do this.
    I am guessing that he means shoulder alignment & their plane depth..open & flat to fade/square to hit straight/closed & deep to draw the ball.
    Could you or any of your readers enlighten me on his shoulder loading concepts?.
    Thanks again for this video as is such a great concise explanation of his concepts.

    It seems an important aspect of this drill is getting the right side of the body (thus weight) to move properly to the left on the downswing. This allows a golfer to reach proper low point at or slightly ahead of the ball. If the right side (weight) does not move properly low point will usually be behind the ball resulting in a fat or topped shot. Good drill.

    It's all pretty obvious stuff. I mean every bloke can take a flat stone and skim it along a pond with power and accuracy. Just just have to get right arm in those same positions and same movement in the downswing. The biggest reason people can't do that, is because they don't collapse the right arm early enough in the backswing. This myth of width in the takeaway means the right arm stays straight for too long and then gets lost halfway back. I.e flying elbow. Also too much width in the takeaway can lead to a collapse in width at the top because of the pressure your body is under. Watch Brian Harmons swing. Sure he's not the longest, but pound for pound on the PGA tour, he hits it a long way. He basically picks the club at takeway with a straight right arm (left arm for righty's) and allows his trail elbow to collapse and tuck immediately.

      The Pros are playing a completely different game than us.
      Trying to mimic a Pro's swing is what stonewalls a shit ton of amatuers.
      IF you want to mimic a 'Pro' swing, 90% of amatuers would be better off watching and mimicking Women's pro golf swings.
      And to be honest should probably be playing from more forward tees.
      But egos......

    hmmmm ok. i have a big problem with this. when Russell creates the plane with the double alignment stick that is the plane i imagine we all believe the angle of attack to be. However when we see a pro or top player through impact the shaft plane changes angle through impact. This is evident on EVERY top player and i have no idea how they are achieving this. So lets say you come down from for example a 45 degree angle. The shaft during release will not release at 45 degrees like Russells stick. It will shallow to say 35 degrees. I believe this is achieved by a wrist release that we aint doing or a swing intent we dont know about. I would imagine that 99% of people would picture a golf swing as the yellow stick plane Russell is showing here. However I can see that this is NOT what is going on. Ive yet to hear a golf pro explain the true nature of the late release and how those angles are achieved. If Russell can understand my ramble id love him to comment or point us to a video he has done that explains this.
