the economy of playing is killing me. just one lead and one bass guitar. what a monster sound, and he is so chill, so cool, so relaxed even with faster, double time riffs. the man is a living guitar school. can't get enough of watching him... thanks for this posting Daniele.
One of the best live bands ever. I saw them first about 1973, before they had beards, and most recently in 2008. In 35 years they hadn't missed a beat. Great then, great in 2008.
Oh my God, I love you man. This was the most awesome tone and badass version of Brown Sugar I saw on youTube and it had disappeared. Thanks for uploading it back. I'd kill (not you) to have the whole concert.
Two of the best song ZZ Top ever done IMO. I think it's amazing that the first song they ever did a s a group way back in 1970 to put out an awesome piece of music that is Brown Sugar. LONG LIVE Z Z T O P!!! NZLD -NiCad Drag Racer-
first saw them in 1973, Tres Hombres tour. pre beards, longhorns next to stage, and they absolutely wore the place out. seen them five times since and each was great. took my daughter her freshman year of college (99) and she loved them too
TOTALLY and utterly fucking awesome from the best band on the planet ZZ TOP. That soloing from Billy at the end of Gimme all your Loving is just magical. Do not miss them at High Voltage this summer!!! THANKS FOR POSTING.
oh yeah! caught um sept 22, 1973 fort worth, tejas! been a zz addict eva since. these guys cooked then and now! last show was the winstar casino may 1, 2015. my 20th show. ya never get tired of more zz shows,i mean to tell ya rat here and now.
Think some people are confused here. This is ZZ Top 13 1/2 years ago. Different equipment (amps, etc.) than they use now, different vocal range, etc. Don't necessarily expect this at your next ZZ show.
I caught this video in the internet.They played at the Montreux Jazz festival in 1997,still don't know if they played a concert in full.Try searching for ZZ Top Montreux 1997.
The Rev plays it so effortlessly it's crazy. Less is more. Hey Ross Childs, you could grab a Bionix Expandora and run it thru a nice valve amp with a bit of Marshall style crunch to get close to this sound. Although I've read that Billy at some point had six (six!) of them chained together and plays with 7 or 8 gauge strings. Like the man said, "Why make it hard on yourself?" It's all in the fingers..
@Blkojo NO CONFUSION here, saw ZZ TOP a couple of months ago and they are just as awesome as they have ever been, brilliant sound, Billy's vocals still strong, his guitar playing still the best, in fact an all round fucking awesome show!!!!
My bad...Grind Inc was a mid-90's skateboard equipment mfg'r that long since gone out of biz (around 1995). They made boards, wheels, etc. No idea why Billy put that sticker on his guitar but if you do some Googling for Grind Inc Skateboard you'll find links to some historical info on the company but you'll have to go SEVERAL pages deep in the Google results before you find 'em. As for the question of what's on his headstock... I'm off to tackle that mystery next!!
@Flat5guitar I sold my Tokai Les Paul Reborn 8 years ago, great guitar but I suspect it would have sounded better with Billy playing it instead of me ;)
hmmm lots of aspects of Billy's tone though, and the tone has changed lots over the years. In recent years he plays with the tone pot down or off to varying degrees. And you need to master the pinch harmonic to sound like him. Otherwise I've found you can get the tone from all kinds of different amps and guitars, it's really more of a playing thang, rather than an equipment thang :)
Ross Childs : You're correct Ross. Billy is the tone master. It's pure power amp saturation. Get u a low wattage amp ie...15- 30 watts with EL 84 power tubes. Set the gain to about 6-7 and crank the power amp volume. Put a fuzz box w/ a tad of delay in the effects loop and turn the fuzz to where it just starts to get fuzzy. I will tell you the Hughes & Kettner Tone Meister is awesome for Billy's tone. A Fender Blues Junior will work or better a Vox AC 15 or 30 or EVH LBX 1/ the first version only. I use a Marshall DSL 15H thru a Marshall 4 x12 cab. w/ 25 watt Greenbacks and Hughes & Kettner Tone Meister head w/ a Marshall cab. I'm not Billy by any stretch, just trying to help you achieve a similar smokin ass tone. Good luck my fellow ZZ & Billy G. fan. Frank and Dusty drive the Bus. Billy just smokes and melts the tires off..ha.
Man that saturated tone of Billy Gibbons is just glorious… so….chewy!

I love that they have this huge sound with only 3 guys! That lil’ ole band from Texas! Rock on…😊

Those older Tokais are wicked cool.

The chicken on Billy's guitar strap is the drop that fills the awesomeness cup :))
Tokai love rocks!,,,,, The best endorsement you could hope for!

When you can make a tokai sound like a 59, you've found true genius.
The Grind is a Tokai? Not Gibson?

Sounds like he's playing a cranked tweed Deluxe!!
just about the best publicity Tokai could get right here. killer guitars i would take a japanese tokai over any gibson!
Something completely different than what Mick and the Stones would sing about.

It's all in the fingers..

Dude. '97 iss later..
@MultiDannyO definitely one of their best songs
Sound!!!
Two of the songs I also pplay in my band ZZ Cat.
Grind was I believe a now-defunct clothing brand
Quick! log in to be thumbs up number 100 :D... rockin!!!
@educassiano Yes they will. It's one their best songs.I think they'll play at end.
LOL, I play a Blitz guitar. Which is a Les Paul clone & I get a killer sound out of it XD
@Blkojo NO CONFUSION here, saw ZZ TOP a couple of months ago and they are just as awesome as they have ever been, brilliant sound, Billy's vocals still strong, his guitar playing still the best, in fact an all round fucking awesome show!!!!
Oh my god! Billy's got a CHICKEN on his back! Cool...
BROUWN SUGARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Apparently Ed Roman, builds Billy F. Gibbons' guitars. Some beautiful guitars too.
im sure Billy can make a two by four sound great, look at his fingers, thats the key!...but i wouldnt say no to a Tokai LP! :)
@2253glen he's playing a japanese Tokai copy, they're excellent
Vintage 7okai and Greco Guitars Uh Huh!
@MultiDannyO
I saw them a couple of summers ago and they did not play it. I think they mix it up with the older songs they choose to play.

@captross07 it's a tokai love rock
This Totally DOESNT SUK.
Best ZZ top ever, I just knew it before I even saw it.
The simple soul filled sound is typical of the Gibson neck.
@overheadcam32 Heady stuff. Be cool shuffling thru life with that acolayde.
What show is this ? And is it rythemeen supper
I just realized, Billy G is playing Brown Sugar in Standard Tuning. LOL I play this tuned down ½ a step.
19frkng59 Les P. The real damn deal. Supercoool.
@Flat5guitar I sold my Tokai Les Paul Reborn 8 years ago, great guitar but I suspect it would have sounded better with Billy playing it instead of me ;)

@NiCadHeliPilot I'm talkin' about Brown Sugar.
