She created the soundtrack for Joker and Chernobyl at the same time. Outstanding work. I believe she's getting the Oscar too.

I hope she wins the Oscar. Her work is simply beyond words as a solo and working with the late Jóhann Johannson on Sicario and Prisoners. Haunting and beautiful. The perfect symphony for the Joker.
I believe that she previously worked with Max Richter too, but on small music pieces.. She learned from the greats to becoming a great composer now, the Oscar awaits her!

Hell yeah. Her music literally inspired the performance and direction of parts of the film. I'm very happy for her. The music spoke so well with the performance. Considering Joaquin considers Hildur to have helped co-create Joker's character, it makes sense.

Really love the fact that award shows give respect to every aspect of a motion picture film, not just directors and leading actors/actresses, but to composers, cinematographers, and editors as well. She deserved this

She elevated the movie and when hearing in the theater, you really felt the emotion of the character, like a pressure in the chest.

The last time I heard a score as important to a film was 'Psycho', Hildur is that good.

Iceland has so much talented people; Bjork, Sigur Ros and now Hildur! Although I have not seen Chernobyl yet, her score for Joker was haunting, beautiful, and definitely memorable. Congratulations on your award, Hildur Guonadottir!
don´t forget her mentor Jóhann Jóhansson who was the composer for sicario, theary of everithing, arrival and prisoner but he sadly passed away last year

I've loved Hildurs' work forever it seems. Feels so strange now seeing her up on stage for the world when it felt like I was the only one that knew her work. Congrats.

The cop car scene where the score really lights up just sends hairs standing on end, particularly the minor segment before he smears blood over his face. Absolutely incredible! I hope we hear more of her on big titles.

ð makes a soft 'th' sound like in 'the', so Guth-nah-dottir. it's a patronym = her dad's name + daughter :) but Icelanders almost never go by just their last names so calling her Hildur is cool

Johann Johannsson is the reason she got to do Joker, and it's kind of weird of how she did not name him in her speech, nor here.
Yes, she's been doing film music for a while. A decade with Johann before he died, and directly after he dies is when she gets solo work, because people want Johann's style so they hired her. She wouldn't have gotten Joker, Sicario 2, or Chernobyl without Johann hiring her to do the soundtracks for Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival. She is a cellist, and was that part of Johann's orchestra.
Because this is her achievement? And not Johann's?
@@horsemann7354 Her achievement where she thanks people who helped her career most significantly. As every winner thanks people who helped their careers significantly.
For example, she would not have received work to be a solo composer for films, let alone for a film like Joker, without Johann. You know, the man who is dead. And she only has her first few film composer credits because he died. And it went to her. Sicario 2 was scored by Hildur, because Johann died, who composed the original. And she used his work in the film. And the end of the film has a dedication to Johann. Her entire musical style is Johann's, as she worked for his orchestra for an entire decade, and then he dies, and she gets a couple solo works, from his foundation.
@@DARKISANDY Why are you so upset? Yes, it's sad that Johann died, but at least we still have someone who can compose that same type of music. The student is now the teacher.
