    I bought food safe silicone sheets from Amazon and then cut them to fit my Dehydrator. They work great.

      I find the mesh silicone liners add hours to drying time. Holes are too small

    These plastic screens are not food-grade plastics and may leach chemicals into your food and air.
    It would be a better idea to get food-grade plastics for this sort of thing. I just built screens for my Cabela's commercial-grade dehydrator by ordering food-grade polypropylene netting (.27-inch mesh) from Industrial Netting. They make a PTFE mesh that goes down to about 1/16th of an inch which would be about perfect for these smaller dehydrators. Just something to think about...

    i use the grease splatter screens they sell at the dollar store. unscrewrd the middle handle part and i am good to go.

    I'm new to dehydrating and I was cutting parchment paper. Until I realized it wasn't good for airflow. I then found this video and this is brilliant! Thank you!! As a craft supply "collector" I know I have a sheet or two around i can play with.

    You can also go to the dollar store and buy the flexible plastic cutting boards to. Trace around your leather tray and you have an instant food safe leather tray.

      what a good idea I have not long brought a new dehydrator that had 9 trays but comes with 4 leather trays and was wondering if I should buy more but there to expensive thanks for this idea how well do they last in the heat though?

    I have been making my own liners trays for fruit leather for years. I use gallon size plastic freezer bags and cut them to fit. I know that these are food safe. After using the homemade liners, I wash and dry them and use them over and over. Just

      Whithut sheets sellers should not sell this product.This mesh is very very important thing for dehydrating purees and pastes.

    I ordered 2 sets of 4 silicon swiss roll baking trays (plus spatula) and will make a careful hole in the middle of 6 of them for fruit leathers for my dehydrator trays. I will keep the 2 spares for swiss roll and open freezing for berries & cookies 😊

    Just be sure to purchase food grade silicone or food grade safe material to be used in cooking conditions no matter how low, just avoid plastic is all, loved the vid

    I called the company that makes the plastic sheets, Darice, and they said DO NOT use their plastic sheets in dehydrators because they are NOT FOOD SAFE.

      +oldchickenlady that's what I was thinking while I watched her video. If bought at the Dollar Store it's probably made in China crap that I wouldn't want near my food.

      what? only because they have something to sell you that has a food grade safe sticker on it. I'd send the company that said "it's not food grade safe," a discount sticker for a one time payer of a million dollars an "oxygen safe, life sustaining grade, breath of air," to guarantee that one time you really are hoping for it, a solemn promise it'll be delivered.

    At first, I thought about leakage for pureed fruit for leathers, but, if your doing slabs of apples or meat, it wouldn't be a problem. Also, you'd have a teflon sheet or parchment paper on top of them anyway. Great idea! I hope those screens are BPA free though.

      Parchment might be food safe, however the question with it is the circulation since it has no holes or like a screen effect. I would not use the plastic she is using in this video either.

    Can fiberglass screen be cut to size of the dehydrator tray and be used? I have a wanna be Excalibur that doesn't have those types of trays that prevents pieces from falling through. I have new fiberglass screen that I thought might work, but before I try it, I thought I would get your opinion........Thank you

    I have 2 fruit trays and used plastic door screen from Walmart for $3.00 a roll. I put the screen between the fruit roll trays and cut the screen around the edge for a perfect fit, then washed them in hot soapy water before I used them. Good flow and nothing falls through.

    I use window screen. Very flexible and easy to fold and dump in the jars.

    Excellent.! I've been wondering what to use.. Other ideas call for solid plastic but that doesn't work well.. Do you have any ideas for trays to make fruit roll-ups.?
    ..... I like to dehydrate mushroom soup for partial cans..

    Thank you! This was one of those "Duh!" ideas (as in Duh, why didn't I think of that!) My wife and I do quite a bit of dehydrating (esp. herbs) so we will use your idea this weekend.     This is a great tip. Have you found a way to make fruit leather trays? These won't work as the puree would seep through

    When making the homemade fruit leather liners, just be sure that you use the inside of the bag facing your food. The outside has a printed area that you do not want touching food.

    Please use food safe plastic. This is not. Seems like a good idea but you are heating non-food safe plastic and who knows what it gives off... There are food safe alternatives that are not much more expensive. They are available in a roll.

      Please show that they ARE food safe before jumping to conclusions. I tend to err on the side of caution. i have tried to find out what kind of plastic they are. some types are not safe even cool temperatures. if I knew it was safe I'd certainly use it. given there are rather inexpensive alternatives that are food safe, is prefer to use those.

    Just use greaseproof paper, thats all Imuse it works great as its breatable and holds fluids too for sauces ect.

      +CragScrambler - I did that to make nachos - and the paper is now firmly embedded in the nachos. :( The good thing about it is that I can't really offer them to friends, but the paper is reasonably edible - more for me! :)

    Thanks for the useful tip ... so much cheaper. I was about to order the dehydrator trays .. so glad I came upon your video. Did you order fruit leather trays or have you found a less expensive alternative? Perhaps the mesh with the tiniest holes would be able to handle the fruit leather. I know that fruit leather trays need to have a lip so the puree doesn't roll off the edge into the center.

    I was going to say the same thing as Old Chicken Lady....those plastic craft canvases are NOT Food safe...the chemicals (Like BPA) used to make them could be harmful to the food you are dehydrating. It could eventually affect your health!

    have you though about a laundry bag? I picked one up at A.C. Moore's, cost $4.99. I made 4 trays, out of one bag. It's made of polyester, can be washed. No BPA's that I know of.

      Try using dollar store thin cutting board i believe they are bpa free but no curl in the middle or the out side. maybe you can improvise

      fadeddenims501 Yes. I use parchment in my 2 dehydrators and can usually get several uses out of a sheet. Do NOT use waxed paper. The wax melts.

      I too have used Parchment paper…these screens are Used for Craft projects….NOT FOOD SAFE…
      especially when you heat them UP, they will leech poison into your food.

      @@gypsygg4102 Yes, I have been using parchment paper and I found along the way that parchment can be washed, rinsed, dried and reused! After I wash and rinse them I gently squeeze out the excess water, then I spread them out on the dehydrators trays if possible. If I need the dehydrator right away, I turn it on to dry the papers quicker. If I want the meat parchment only for that purpose, once they are dried I fold them and put them in a zip bag and mark it for later use.

    You need to take this video down immediately. The sheets you are using are not Food Grade. Your heart was in the right place, but this is not going to work. Stay safe and always do your research.

      Hi ForeverGhostdoggg. My screens have been used for years over and over, They look like new no signs of wear on them yet! I always wash them by hand NEVER in the dishwasher! Hope it helps, thanks for the comment!

      Hi Toni. Sorry it took so long, been away. The screens are plastic and quite flexible. When I bought them they had a make on them but I don't recall what it was. I got them in the craft section of the $ store. Hope it helps!
