"Arsene was never intended to accompany you throughout your journey" Just you wait. Once 5 is on steam I'm never letting him leave. I did it with Izanami and I'll attempt it again. ...as long as 5 doesn't murder my laptop.
P5R was my first Persona game and I was super sad it made me get rid of him in the fusion tutorial. But I found out how to get him back and kept him in my collection the whole game and even did some improvements on him with skill cards and stuff cuz I thought he was cool :)
i don't consider raoul arsene's final form because it is more like a diferent take on him, even more than the other phanto thieves' 3rd awekenings. Raoul just like the other new forms for the phantom thieves personas has more in comom with arsene than satanael but in his case he is not the strongest form, satanael is still higher level and has history relevance. Raoul is a name arsene lupin used in some of his books as an alter ego. Raoul's design is also on persona 5 royal and modernized arsene with an resemblance to michael jackson
Raoul is Arsené Lupin's middle name and alter ego it was also implied to be his real name at points. Most of the 3rd tiered personas were either aliases or real names of their first persona (ex: William is Captain kidd's 3rd form)
I love Arsene so much, despite being quickly overshadowed by other Personas, I tend to level him up and keep him in most playthroughs of Royal (and OG P5 but now I don't play that at all). Strikers is amazing because they gave Arsene a huge buff and made him a viable Persona to keep with you. Some people have even put out endgame Gun/Technical builds for Arsene. My favorite thing, that I'm surprised you didn't mention, is P5/Royal hinting at Arsene's inspiration in the form of a question in class. I can't remember the exact question or even what date it was on but I knew a bit about the gentleman thief thing before watching this.
Now that you mention it you're right! I do remember a question specifically about a gentleman thief character where you have to answer Arsene Lupin. If I remember correctly there is also a book about him in the library you can read at some point too! I like how the game peppers in these little hints to get people thinking about the inspiration behind these personas!
@@3Waifu Now that you mention THAT I restarted Royal and the first book I read was about the Gentleman Thief, I'm pretty sure. It raises your kindness. But for sure, I love the quiz and test questions because they all relate to cognition and the metaverse or whatever in some way. Side note, are you planning on covering all of the main Personas? I know where Captain Kidd comes from but Personas like Cameron or Goemon I'm not sure of.
@@SkotKozB5 I definitely would like too! I know a lot of people want to see captain kidd and I've also got a very high amount of comments asking for some of the main personas from P4 so its between those options for next week right now!
I would personally love to see the Personas of the gentle madman himself, Azathoth and Adam Kadmon. I think that would be pretty awesome. I really enjoyed this video, and I'm excited to see this expand as a series!
I read Arsène Lupin before playing Persona 5 and i’ve always loved the symbolism behind this choice and Arsène’s design. Nice video, it seems you made a lot of cool vids so i’ll make sure to check these out and subscribe
Something that I thought was fascinating is that, according to TV Tropes, the fact that he is a French thief with wings is in and of itself, a cute nod to the French word “Voler” which not only means “to steal” but “to fly.” I love wordplay. Especially subtle foreign wordplay.
Yes!!!!!!! We need more videos like this one that talk about Persona 5's Themes and Symbolism. I never understand "P5 doesn't have a enough sustance" or ''P5 does a bad job with their message" criticises. P5 got a lot of sustance from Phantom Thieves Persona, The Palaces, The Music and even the color red that shows in the game. Thank You, Keep it up.
The casts Personas and lore are super interesting so I would love to see videos on them. Keep up the great content, I can see you blowing up soon with all the analytical videos.
Wow, I had no idea the lore behind Arsene ran so deep! I can't wait to see you do these for the rest of the Phantom Thieves' Personas, and hopefully then we'll see some about the Personas of the playable characters from the other games.
Heyyy. 2 years since you commented but here I am. Just wanted to say, I somehow managed to keep him past the fusion tutorial so it is possible to keep him without fusing him and rebuying him

Well, you've definitely earned a sub. As for requests, let's go with the evolution line of Mr.Phantom thief himself, Ryuji. Captain Kid, Seiten Teisei, and William.
Subscribed, but only because I want you to cover some of the main personas of Persona 4 and showcase the history and culture they are based on. Great video. :)
I immediately fell in love with Arsené when I first used one of his abilities when I played Strikers around this time last year and I’m currently 1 month into Royal and Im at Furaba’s change of heart arc
In strikers he's actually somewhat viable, even op dare I say. That is if you have the patience to build him up, wich is neither fast or easy. I managed to bring all his stats up to 99 and make a nice setup of skills which includes MEGIDOLAON. So, yeah, worh it.
Of all the Persona's in P5R I think one of the most interesting persona's are the one Yoshizawa has. Cendrillon and Ella has interesting parallels to Yoshizawa's character and story which is a foil to the tale Cinderella. I fell like if you were to compare the elements of the cinderella fairy tale and people's positive and negative preconceptions of the character to Yoshizawa's story you'll definitely get an interesting analysis. Because while you can say that Yoshizawa's story is the tale of cinderella, Yoshizawa herself is not merely cinderella but also the step-sister in her own story. I guess what im trying to say is that Yoshizawa's story is a story about the step-sister that becomes cinderella. Simultaneously, Yoshizawa's story is also the transformation from the lazy "false" Cinderella that was handed over a happy ending by a spell cast by the fairy godmother (the cynical interpretation of the fairy tale) into the industrious "true" Cinderella that though helped by the fairy godmother worked and earned her own happy ending. (the idealistic interpretation of the fairy tale) There's also the glass slipper motif that fits her narrative quite well. I feel that Yoshizawa starts of as the step-sister figure that can't fit trully fit the shoes of her older sister and that she has to cut a part of herself in order to wear the glass slipper that could not have worn in the first place. The stepsister in the tale cuts of her heels in order to fit the shoes and pretend to be Cinderella while Yoshizawa cuts off her own identity to pretend to be her sister. But as grows by understanding her sister's point of view (being in her shoes) she comes to find a way to make those shoes her own and strive to live for her sister's dream and happy ending.
This is a really interesting perspective and one that I have been playing around with for awhile myself as well! I definitely want to look into her and her persona more in the future so I'm going to keep this comment in mind!
[Some minor Persona 5 spoilers ahead] Maybe I'm looking too deeply into it, but I noticed that Morgana's second Persona, Mercurius, had wings styled very similarly to Arsene's wings on his shoes. When I first saw this, I immediately made the connection and assumed it might be a reference to how Joker has helped uplift and elevate Morgana towards freedom throughout the game, so putting the wings belonging to Arsene as a symbol of freedom would make a cool connection. Maybe I'm just looking for symbolism where there is none, but it's an interesting thought. Anyways, awesome video! Keep up the good work! Edit: lesson learned, editing a comment un-hearts it, weird.

can you make a symbolism video on the persona spinoffs(persona Q and Q2 on the 3ds)? (if you haven't already) id love to hear your own interpretations on the dungeons and bosses.
I would be super interested in to branching out into mainline SMT! As of right now I actually haven't played too much SMT but I'm looking forward to SMT V and the Nocturne remake!
okay, i know this video is almost two years old but i want to share a possible explanation why Arsene, as a starting Persona, has two weaknesses and why it's Ice. Joker's Persona as we figure later is heavily based on Satan and if you had read Dante's Divine Comedy, *_Satan is trapped inside the ice_* . From the book: " *_... Satan's bat-like wings are flapping, creating a cold wind that freezes the ice firmer. Dante stands dazed and shaken in the presence of this hideous being and can only attempt to describe him._* *_Satan is bound in the ice to his mid-point and has three faces - a red one, a yellow one, and black one. In each of his three mouths he chews a sinner._* " " *_...trapped in the ice, punished as the rest of the sinners, perhaps worse._* " Arsene in his vow says about being readsy to conmit any sacriligeous acts for 'thy justice'. So Joker, and essentially Arsene, sees himself as a sinner that is punished whose is bound by chains and ice and whose role is to punish other sinners, Which is, what he does in the game by stealing treasures of the *_Sinners_* . edit: formatting for pretty looking text lol
