  • We acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal community as the continuing custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania) and honour Aboriginal Elders past and present.
lutruwita milaythina Pakana - Tasmania is Aboriginal land.
This video documents a creative project that was commissioned by the ‪@JunctionArtsFestival‬ with suport from Festivals Australia. This multi-disiplinary art project was initially conceptualised by Melanie Hoult. Melanie lives on the North East Coast of Tasmania and talks about her desire to address the global plastic waste problem. The project then expanded to include the work of students from Bicheno Primary School and St Helens District High School. Melanie and Natasha Lowe worked with the kids to create sculptures of ocean creatures and environments out of marine debris that was collected from local beaches and waterways. ‪@TerrapinPuppetTheatre‬ was engaged to make a whale puppet and work with performers from Launceston College to stage a performnce at the Junction Arts Festival 2024. The performnce is based on a narrative written by Tasmanian Author Adam Thompson. The sound for the performance was created by Lila Meleisea. Lila also created a soundscape that will be played in the exhibition space where the work created by Melanie, Tash and the students will be exhibited.
