They could do security updates without changing everything else. The updates are just meant to slow down and bloat your phone so that you'll get a new one more quickly than you otherwise would. I never buy an expensive phone anymore strictly because the updates make sure you will need a new one within two years at most.
Facts I have a 2020 Motorola One 5G Ace and won't update to new OS until my next phone just in case it doesn't work right, don't want to ruin my daily driver phone lol

Yup Asus and Sony took up the high end and Motorola picked up the slack in the sub-$450 end of things. Only things missing are OLED display and 4-5 years of OS (if not at least security) updates. 🙏
I went from a pixel 4 to a Motorola edge 2021 last August. The thing that drew me to it was 1. Battery was a MAJOR upgrade from 2400mah to 5000mah. I know this is a moto g stylus video, but i have the same problem as what is mentioned in the video... ONE OS UPDATE!! It would be nice if Motorola offered at least 2-3 software updates on their popular phones. Most people only have phones for 2 years nowadays anyway. So yeah, they can at least give multiple software updates that match that.
Pixel 5a/6a was a huge jump in battery life if you had stuck it out with Google. Edge is good too tho as long as you don't mind no getting updates for more than 2-3 years.
There is a pretty active community around custom roms for the entire Stylus 5G family so the one year of OS updates really isn't too much of an issue if that's something you're interested in doing. My 2022 hasn't been on stock firmware since the first week I got it.
Major switch from Apple to Android specially Motorola cause I hear that android like to give freedom and have batteries last a min tired of a hour long battery but I’m interested in learning
Motorola needs to stop doing one OS update and 3 years of security patches. With phones like the A54 and 6a having 4-5 years of OS updates and security patches doing the bare minimum in 2023 is just lazy. Even when the processor is powerful enough to support it. I love what Motorola is doing with their design and software but it decreases the value when so many phones offer more long term support.
I got anxious and brought the 128GB version of this phone from Cricket Wireless. It's definitely better than the 2021 variant and a _small_ upgrade of 2022 variant. I've been enjoying my time with the phone so far with a few small annoyances.
That is ABSOLUTELY A HUGE Selling point believe it or NOT! Genius idea whoever came up with that, and yes I use it all the time. And yes made me consider and buy moto over Samsung

Boost was running a deal on their 128Gb version of the 2023 Stylus 5G, so I've upgraded from my original 2021 model to this one for $21. The stylus on my old one gradually wore down from heavy drawing and I've been carrying aftermarket ones, but the basic concept is still good. 120hz is a great usability upgrade, and the new camera will do better in low-light photos.

@@JesusSavesSinners oh nice. I bought this phone back when I made the comment pretty much and it's a pretty good phone. Glad to hear I'll get 3 android updates + 4 years of security updates.
It's honest to say that Lenovo / Motorola is a smaller Company than Samsung and Google, so updates don't come as quickly (you get 3 years with 1 OS update + security patch every 3 months). 3 years is when I start updating to a new Device, regardless. It always takes 1 to 2 software updates for those cameras (front and back) to really reach their best - and a recent 3rd update truly improved my 2022 unlocked variant G Stylus 5G. On the Lenovo / Motorola Forums is where we give honest feedback (they do watch video reviews and listen to constructive criticism). We mostly felt the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 1st Gen is alright (a 7 1st Gen would've been snappier, but it would've driven the price up to $499 - so please take that into consideration). 2023's screen size + 120 htz refresh rate, we felt a larger screen would have needed a larger battery than 5,000 mAh to last with the same refresh rate (and the Device would be too chunky like an old Phablet design wise with a larger battery). You only get 2 colour choices (no longer fingerprint smudges), some models it's just 1. The Unlocked Variant offers the most RAM and ROM vs the Carriers (I don't think that's ever going to change). 2023 does improve upon 2022, but we feel if Lenovo / Motorola quit offering 4G LTE Devices? they could devote more attention to their 5G Devices (remember it's a small Company compared to Samsung and Google). We'd like to see 20 - 25 Watt Wall Charger included (so charging up would be 45 minutes faster). Not that many Cons, because the 2023 has more Pro's at it's price range (even what the Stylus does has improved a little more). Easily the best Stylus Device out there in that price range (it's a shame that the OnePlus Nord, TCL, Nokia didn't try this year to come out with a Stylus). Your review touched on everything (great job!), I'm sure we'll see game use later. 😊
I just got this phone (albeit 128 gb) got 5 or 6 games and only using 66-68% of the internal memory and it still performs pretty well, haven't noticed much in the way of lag.
Just picked up the 128 GB version from cricket. I've only had it two days and has already done 5 security updates paid 136 for it with tax I had a 2021 version before but not in the stylist. I'm really wondering on this that's my last phone had six cameras 4 on the back and two on the front.
Im looking on my boost mobile app and i saw this phone for 9.99,seems to be on sale but im unsure about it,is the stylus required to operate the phone or can i use it without?i currently have my s10 but because I dropped it the screen is going out and it isnt reacting to my touch as well as before
Boost guy here, 22 years. ZFlip3 tapped out on me, loved it 3 years. Got it $10.59 after state tax, I LOVE IT. Only thing missing is wireless charging, I can live without that. The STYLUS isn't necessary to operate phone. It's just for fun. If u never use the stylus, no biggie.
It’s not a bad inexpensive phone. I switched from the pixel 7 pro. The pixel drove me nuts. I still have it as a backup but figured I’d try this new moto phone. It’s pretty good generally speaking, the only thing I’ve been troubled with is Motorola installing a specific bloatware app called telecoms client. I am under the impression that it’s for a notification management function. I still don’t want it. Aside from this I have no access to the administrator functions. I get a notice IT blocked. Only accessed by IT administrator. So you cannot tweak anything on this phone. I like the phone and haven’t experienced any issues.
I know this is an old comment but, what drove you nuts about the Pixel 7 Pro? Are you still using the Moto G Stylus? It's gotta be a massive downgrade in terms of camera.
My only Moto phone was the Moto x pure. Great phone for 1 year. Then the battery started to glitch the phone constantly. I tried to put in a new one but broke a cable and when I put it back together, when I squeezed the back the phone shut off 😭. So I gave up with Motorola phones. I'm still using my Pixel 3 XL and after 3 years, still pleased.
My moto G7 had battery issues at the end of it's life. Actually, it still works, but would shut off once the battery was at 15% then later it would shut off at 30%
@@zacchaeusmartin8685 Yeah, that's how my xpure did. I tried to put a new battery in myself. Stupid move. I broke the power cable when I opened it and could never get it to go in straight. 😵. So I gave up. Anyway, truly blunted my desire for another Motorola phone.
$45 at family dollar, got a $10 coupon, buying one in the morning, it does only have 64gb but I just need one for work, I personally hate these things, but the stylus will be a good item for me on there.
Upgraded from a Moto e5 cruise which has been with me for over 5 years. So far, this phone is great. Lots of space, good quality, and judging from user reviews and the community interactions, this phone is great! The only problem I've had with it was the limited updates, but that's it. This is such a great quality phone, and I'm willing to see what Motorola has to present for this wonderful device!
I've had 3 different moto Gs and I've liked them all. Obviously, since I keep getting them. I don't necessarily need the stylus. I honestly never use it. My first one was the Moto G7 and I loved it so much that I went with the Moto G Stylus 2021, but only because it was the best option that Spectrum had in their store when I switched from straight talk. Then I slipped on ice on my driveway and had it in my hand. Landed super hard and it caught the full force of the fall on the bottom corner. So I traded it in for the Moto G Stylus 2023. The only thing I've noticed with it are some OS features that came with the 2021's last update that aren't with the 2023. Simple things like when I have Google Duo open in face calls. I would switch to RUclips and the face call would automatically shrink and I could seamlessly go between the two. Now I have to do that manually. So I do miss that.
The Google fi version only comes with 4GB of RAM and 128gb storage. Apparently Motorola used these specs for the carrier version. WHY?? Just make all of them 6gb RAM smh. That said, Fi does have it on sale for $130. Would you buy the 4 GB version for that price? I'm just worried about the hit on performance.
@@TechRight no, I'm talking about the 5G 2023. If you check specs on phonesites you'll see it listed in both 4GB and 6gb configurations. I contacted Google fi to confirm which one it has and it is indeed the 4GB variation. The Motorola site has 6 GB with 256 GB of storage.
I think 4gb is not enough. Will make the phone laggy. I have a Nokia G50 5G and it runs slow. 6gb is better but cricket and Google Fi apparently has this version.😢
Man, this is tough for me. It seems to be everything I've wanted in a phone, besides the stylus, but with only 1 year of OS updates. I'm not interested in a pixel because no expandable storage or headphone jack, so I guess the only other option is the galaxy a54.
i wish they would market better its barely any videos on here the nord n30 5g is all over and so is the galaxy a54 5g and this to me has a better processor than both of them phones
Well I have this same here stylus but I'm old school and I don't really understand what's the stylus used for??? Like really I had one of those first flipped phones by Nokia ,well that's say's it all oh, and I owned a pager way ,way long time ago 😊
My first mobile phone was a fat, chunky Nokia. I thought that it was the coolest thing bc the keyboard frame came off and you could put other 'keys' in it. That was w cricket when they first started out. I also had an LG that was metal! The screen slid up and revealed the keyboard underneath. I loved that phone!! It was indestructible😅
I don't care much for OS updates but Security updates are a must. From what I could find online, it seems Motorola only gives 3 years of security updates compared to Samsung's 4-5 yrs of security updates. Is that accurate?
I can get the Pixel 7a for $300, or the Moto G Stylus 5G for $100. I can't imagine the 7a would be worth that price difference. I might even go with the Moto G Power 5G for $30. Though they Stylus sure has a good upgrade in storage, RAM, processor, and charging speed.
I got mine unlocked for $250, Motorola G stylus takes pretty decent pictures but I do have some issues with apps crashing so hopefully some software patches that they need to put out will fix it 😕
I'm looking to buy the Cricket Moto g stylus 5G 2023 I've been searching so far no answers found for the 2023 version Yet. Type C to HDMI...Alt mode? So I can screen share with my smart tv? My T-Mobile LG G7 Thin Q I was able to use. Yet the battery is dieing. My Cricket Dream 5G, not able to use. All those settings are grayed out. Zero options to use < yes cheep crap! Got it free. The only reason I have it!
I love Moto G phones, the best one that I ever had was the Moto g 5 Plus, it was the perfect phone size and shipped stock android. Now their phones are too big and ship with bloatware. I've decided not to continue with Moto, on my last version now, won't replace it until it dies, but if I'm going to be getting bloatware then I may as well go elswhere
For the price of the moto phones you could buy a new one every couple of years and not have to worry about software updates, personally I love moto phones and don't like Google or Samsung phones... At all. I got the moto g 5g 2022 for free from Total wireless and I love it I might buy a new phone next year maybe and I'm thinking either the moto g 5 g 2023 or the moto g 5g stylus 2023 idk I might go with the moto Edge 2023 but it would have to be the 512gb option as it don't support SD cards.
It is Not True that this Phone is only getting 1 year of Android updates. It is actually getting 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of Security updates. For years RUclipsrs have been incorrectly bashing Motorola for Not giving multiple years Android updates. I bought the 2022 Moto G Stylus when it 1st came out and the same thing was Falsely said about it. Mine Shipped with Android 11 right now I have Android 12 and it is on the Motorola's list for Android 14. I heard it is also scheduled for Android 15 too. Motorola has been updating the Android software on their phones past the number of versions they previously announced. I have seen it in Print that all but their lowest priced phones will get 3 years of Android updates (Some even 4 years) and 4 years of Security updates. I have owned Motorola phones for a bunch of years. All of mine have gotten at least 3 Android updates. You are giving out very bad information.
I considered getting a pixel phone just cuz they're updates are good and more frequent than alot of other phones excluding apple of coarse but I decided move away from apple cuz my 12 pro max was getting pretty glitchy after a huge software update going into iOS 17 however the price point for me I wasn't doing apple again so hence buying a android
Nice video. I ordered one of these (the wife went with the iPhone 15 pro max) and am waiting on it to arrive. I opted for this Moto phone for 2 reasons. 1) The ear-phone jack and 2) the SD card support. I hate that it only gets a single year for an update, but I can live with that to get the two features stated above. My current Moto phone is running Android 8.1 and still works with the exception that this year, I have had a few apps not work any longer on it. (bank apps, pilot app, etc...) I'm guessing the new Moto will get me another 3 years at least, before I may have to get a phone without the headphone jack. (I only found 2 main models that had it this year, so it is definitely prone to being eliminated) Once I join the younger generation that feels they do not need a headphone jack, I will likely go to a Google Pro (whatever the current version is at the time) or I will turn to the dark side and join the wife with an iPhone 15 pro max. (or whatever the current version is at that time) In actuality, if Apple would change up their file access ability, I would switch to one now. The Android phones just make it so easy to access content, since the phone basically acts like a flash drive when you plug it in to your computer, and lets you access all files. iPhones have gotten a little better, but still nowhere as easy as accessing an android phone.
I have a 2020(2021?) Oneplus Nord N10 from metro and although its running Android 11, its doing some things better than my Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 on Android 12. So I stopped getting antsy about software updates, but I'm an IT tech so of course i want the newest OS.

I love you no homo amazing🙃🤗🤙
Dude stop making excuses releasing a phone that has some so good features like this and only getting one year of OS updates it's pathetic
I just got this phone (albeit 128 gb) got 5 or 6 games and only using 66-68% of the internal memory and it still performs pretty well, haven't noticed much in the way of lag.
How about this unit for$20 at boost????
Just picked up the 128 GB version from cricket. I've only had it two days and has already done 5 security updates paid 136 for it with tax I had a 2021 version before but not in the stylist. I'm really wondering on this that's my last phone had six cameras 4 on the back and two on the front.
I have a 2021, and I'm about to upgrade to this one, my 2021 does not disappoint. I don't use the stylus so it doesn't bother me either way.
That’s a whole bunch of words and superfluous opinion without offering much meat on the specs and true feature bones. Fingerprints? Really?
Damn bruh where do you live? Here in CO can get the 128g version (only one they offer) for 150$ still very interested as I had the 2022 version
Love this phone. Got it a cricket for $170 😊
How does this phone compare to the Samsung Galaxy A54???
Hey hopefully you can answer my comment but should I go with this or the a15 5g?
I love Poetic Cases. They are the best smartphone cases period for the prices that they charge. Otterbox is overpriced.
The Moto G stylus 5G 2023 is supposed to receive three years of security updates.
Samsung a54 5g or this phone?
A 54
@okjipk I ended up keeping the samsung. Eventually I'll do a oneplus for the charging speeds
Does the unlocked on support dual sim or esim?
It’s not a bad inexpensive phone. I switched from the pixel 7 pro. The pixel drove me nuts. I still have it as a backup but figured I’d try this new moto phone. It’s pretty good generally speaking, the only thing I’ve been troubled with is Motorola installing a specific bloatware app called telecoms client. I am under the impression that it’s for a notification management function. I still don’t want it. Aside from this I have no access to the administrator functions. I get a notice IT blocked. Only accessed by IT administrator. So you cannot tweak anything on this phone. I like the phone and haven’t experienced any issues.
me also scouring the internet to replace my dogshit pixel pro
I know this is an old comment but, what drove you nuts about the Pixel 7 Pro? Are you still using the Moto G Stylus? It's gotta be a massive downgrade in terms of camera.
Can you pay with the phone? That's a disadvantage of the Stylus 2022 that I currently have
How do I update my emergency address so I can use Wi-Fi calling? I try to turn it on but it wont let me add address
Had Phone 1 week.will not charge today.same cord that came with it.
Dual sim?
Using the 128gb version wit 1tb sd card and its rocking my guys. For a second phone this is great only thing that could be better is screen
Expandable memory is so good, especially fi u play psp and ps2 games.
$45 at family dollar, got a $10 coupon, buying one in the morning, it does only have 64gb but I just need one for work, I personally hate these things, but the stylus will be a good item for me on there.
What about the CAMERAS?
Upgraded from a Moto e5 cruise which has been with me for over 5 years. So far, this phone is great. Lots of space, good quality, and judging from user reviews and the community interactions, this phone is great! The only problem I've had with it was the limited updates, but that's it.
This is such a great quality phone, and I'm willing to see what Motorola has to present for this wonderful device!
Moto G Stylus LTE 2023 vs the Moto G Play 2024 ? Which to go with? I can get them for the same price and don't really need the stylus per se.
That's the 4g varient I believe your talking about
@@TechRight no, I'm talking about the 5G 2023.
Good honest straight forward review
Anyone know how to set up the security pad ?
Just bought mine for 20 dollars off boost mobile 🎉
How is it working is it a good phone does it lag
Great phone, great stereo sound on Dolby Atmos movie setting.
Man, this is tough for me. It seems to be everything I've wanted in a phone, besides the stylus, but with only 1 year of OS updates. I'm not interested in a pixel because no expandable storage or headphone jack, so I guess the only other option is the galaxy a54.
The A54 has no headphone jack though
I thought the same (1 year of OS 😔). I'm curious which phone you eventually decided on 🤔
Why don’t you do a video The Motorola 5G stylus versus the razor 5G version 40
i wish they would market better its barely any videos on here the nord n30 5g is all over and so is the galaxy a54 5g and this to me has a better processor than both of them phones
Im gonna buy it Friday my pixel 7 sucks
Tried the phone but it felt laggy and slow 🤷🏽 great content and explanation. Keep up the great work 👌🏽👌🏽 always looking for your reviews!
Thanks for that love brother
$9.99 on Boost
I can get the Pixel 7a for $300, or the Moto G Stylus 5G for $100. I can't imagine the 7a would be worth that price difference. I might even go with the Moto G Power 5G for $30. Though they Stylus sure has a good upgrade in storage, RAM, processor, and charging speed.
They say ther are 3 years security updates
I got mine unlocked for $250, Motorola G stylus takes pretty decent pictures but I do have some issues with apps crashing so hopefully some software patches that they need to put out will fix it 😕
Can get this for 10.00 is this worth it
Thanks I like the space and I want a good camera I may get this or pixel 7 a
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊
I'm looking to buy the Cricket Moto g stylus 5G 2023
I've been searching so far no answers found for the 2023 version Yet.
I have it it's great! Very underrated A fantastic phone at a fantastic price!
Mine only came with 128
For the price of the moto phones you could buy a new one every couple of years and not have to worry about software updates, personally I love moto phones and don't like Google or Samsung phones... At all. I got the moto g 5g 2022 for free from Total wireless and I love it I might buy a new phone next year maybe and I'm thinking either the moto g 5 g 2023 or the moto g 5g stylus 2023 idk I might go with the moto Edge 2023 but it would have to be the 512gb option as it don't support SD cards.
heres hoping it will get android 14 soon....
id like to get the a54 5g but its way too expensive....and I found out that i cant switch to metro...
Got mine for 250 brand new
Did you get yours through a Carrier? Metro? Cricket? Boost Mobile etc? Or on ebay, Amazon?
@@justinkimble4654 yes
No 3.5mm jack on Google 6 - 7 or 8... so it's a no buy for me!
I like watching videos about different phone types. Im watching this on my Samsung Fold 5 256gb
(bank apps, pilot app, etc...)
I'm guessing the new Moto will get me another 3 years at least, before I may have to get a phone without the headphone jack. (I only found 2 main models that had it this year, so it is definitely prone to being eliminated)
Once I join the younger generation that feels they do not need a headphone jack, I will likely go to a Google Pro (whatever the current version is at the time) or I will turn to the dark side and join the wife with an iPhone 15 pro max. (or whatever the current version is at that time)
In actuality, if Apple would change up their file access ability, I would switch to one now. The Android phones just make it so easy to access content, since the phone basically acts like a flash drive when you plug it in to your computer, and lets you access all files.
iPhones have gotten a little better, but still nowhere as easy as accessing an android phone.
I want a drop test and a fly across the room test lol.
Thankies 🙂
If motorola blended this with the thinkphone id buy it immediately
Battery charging drain test and gaming test of COD MOBILE and bgmi 🙂
I have a 2020(2021?) Oneplus Nord N10 from metro and although its running Android 11, its doing some things better than my Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 on Android 12. So I stopped getting antsy about software updates, but I'm an IT tech so of course i want the newest OS.
Whole phone is good, except for the screen size. Great video
Is it too big or small?
@@LazySusan.2021 was 6.8 in screen
2023 is 6.5 in. Screen
just good and bad, there's no ugly to this phone
I have the 6a and the stylus, stylus has more storage for me than the 6a and runs faster
Omg I noticed the curved design and thought I bent the phone because I accidentally had by elbow on it when I was sitting 😭
Love the phone so far. I just wish it had wireless charging.
The 4G model is a no-go.
I use 1tb in.
Plus came from lg stylus
