Thanks for the tip on the lens hood. I’ve used X100’s and Leica M for street but the A7C easily matches them, even with the little EVF I find works well enough. I went for the 40mm G. The one camera I miss for street occasionally is the little Ricoh GR.
Great content Dylan. I’m buying an A7cr and found you through searching for that. Your videos have been really helpful, informative and entertaining. 🙂
I was literally thinking about picking up a Fujifilm X-T30 as an everyday camera. I'm a full time wedding photographer and I use a couple of a7III's for that. I also have an a7II and a6000 laying around so why spend more money into a Fuji when I can just get this lens, slap it to the a7II or a6000 and have a perfectly capable everyday camera. You've convinced me!
I just added my first Sony to my collection of Pentax, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm and Nikon cameras. I picked up the A7II from Adorama camera, the reason that I chose an older camera is that in my camera collection I have Pentax DSLR's going back 16 years and I have many more modern models S5 MKII, Nikon Zf,Fujifilm XT5 and XH2, I picked the Sony used was what is an open box unit with the 28-70 3.5-5.6 kit lens for just over 800 dollars tax included. I also picked up the same 24mm G lens that you highlighted in your video, it looks like the lens that Nikon should have released on the ZF.,I will add some of the Sigma i series glass.
Fun video. Everyone should have a walk around kit ready to go. At this point I have a stable of lenses.. but I take out the A7c + 35/2.8 Zeiss like 90% of the time. Despite the years of separate inception dates, they feel made for each other. I totally agree that while the A7c can handle a lot of workhorse duties, it really shines as a walkabout kit basepoint. I very very rarely leave the house without "junior" on my wrist. I'm starting to think the 28/f2 is the endgame. I was torn between the 35 and 24 but now that I've spent a few months on the 35, I could see the 28 being the goldilocks lens. Maybe one day. I'm still enjoying my honeymoon.
I find it strange that I don't see more people shooting with that combo. I have the 2.8/35 Zeiss for my a7riii and I'd love to pair it with an a7c/a7cii one day... Glad to hear it's working out well for you.
@@markstev0the 35mm, Zeiss lens while small and cute does not have an aperture ring or some of the other controls you see with a competing product, (i.e Sony, 40mm, f2.5, G). Also, when paired with the limited dials/controls of the A7C it can be a little harder to handle. Further, this is a lens that was a little expensive (~$800) when released new 9 years ago (2015) and still sells for a pretty penny even used today despite not being the sharpest optically compared to modern contemporaries. If going for small and cute, despite having similar limitations on the lens controls, I’d go with the newer (2019) Samyang 35mm, f2.8 product myself, as it offers similar optics and can be had for ~$150. If going for small and cute, with optical brilliance, for a similar price, at a similar focal length I’d go the Sony, 40mm, f2.5, G for it’s wonderful sharpness and controls.
Super compact camera? For a full frame camera yes. As an absolute it is just small. The Panasonic GM1/5 are super compact cameras. The Panasonic GX8/85/9 bodies are small too. Yes, these are M43 bodies. These bodies are smaller & more compact than the A7C. Size and focal length. 24mm is a super versatile focal length? My experience is 28mm is wide. For portraits the wide angle lenses may introduce distortion which isn’t flattering to the subject. As a result, for me, the 24mm lens is a no go. I understand your preference is different from mine. I just purchased an A7C a couple days ago. I realize you’ve moved on to the II. I’m going through the menus to set the camera up. I’m searching for features I want. Some are buried in submenus. Sometimes the feature is called something different by Sony than Fuji. This is a project in progress. I’m looking for my 1st Sony lens. I’m looking for a focal length between 35 & 50mm. I’d like an aperture ring as it isn’t simple to adjust the aperture on this body. More will be revealed. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
24mm and wider is a different animal when it comes to photography but does many things well. It is wide enough for self portraits and for videoing yourself hand held. It works well in cramped quarters or intimate indoor rooms where you can’t keep backing up to get everything in frame. It’s also great for when you want to capture vast landscapes or street views. Still, as with what you are saying you have to learn how to shoot to avoid unwanted perspective distortion, which is inherent with this focal length and to your point you have to get close to frame people as the subject of a shot so they are not just something in the scene. With this you run the risk of distorting them. 24mm used to be my go to focal length, but then I discovered what photography could be with 50mm and 90mm.
Congrats on your A7C purchase. I hope you are enjoying it! I think this RUclipsr actually got himself an A7CR when it came out. Like you I also recently bought an A7C for a song Jan 2024-after Christmas sale. I leveraged the price reduction on the original model that happened as a result of the newer A7C Ii and A7CR models coming out. If you’re looking for a good 50mm I’ll share the Sony, 50mm, f2.5, G, was one of the best lenses I purchased along with the Sigma 90mm, f2.8, dg dn, (chef’s kiss!).
Thinking about getting this lens for A7CR - thank you for a great demo of what this little lens can do. Much appreciated! lens hood suggestion - helpful too.
I just bought the 24mm G to use with my A7R3 or a6600. I'll probably add the 50mm G after trying the 24mm G. This combination will be just for fun when I don't want to carry my larger heavier cameras and lenses.
1:56 nice street bricks... Your camera looks great. I own the Sony A7RIV, but I will get this one like my second camera or ultra low light photos and videos...
About to take delivery of my new a7c to add to my a7iii and enjoying your videos, thanks! Your channel deserves a LOT more recognition than it has! Subscribed ;)
Hi Dylan. I had a similar thought process and reached the same conclusion as you did. I considered buying the Fuji x100v ( G.A.S.) but as I already own my a7c, I decided to make a conscious decision to use it with my smaller and lighter lenses ( leave the big boy zooms at home) and be content with working around any inherent problems. I already have the Sony 35 f2.8 and their 28 f.2 lenses; they make the A7c feel more like my A6000 to carry and found that they bring the fun and spontaneity back to the whole process . I just added the much maligned Sony 50 f1.8 to my collection and am surprised that I really enjoy shooting with it , even with its quirky auto focus. Somehow, using it feels more intentional and makes you consider the shot more than just firing off. It's a much better lens on the A7c, and with its latest firmware applied, than old reviews would have you believe. I set my A7C to use the back dial for the aperture and the middle dial for shutter, if needed .
The A6000 was my first camera so everything about this set up just feels very nostalgic considering my A6000 and 16mm 2.8 (24mm FF equivalent) was basically my EDC back in the day. I didn’t mention in the video but I owned the Samyang 35mm 2.8 for a couple years but I never used it. Sold it maybe 6 months ago. Never enjoyed using that lens, there was just something off about it. I may pick up the 50mm 2.5 go with my 24mm eventually.
I have used the x100 and the A7c. I think the x100 is more inspiring to shoot with every day, but you can't go wrong with full frame and compact size. I was trying to tell the x100v Facebook group that I can't wait until Fuji goes full frame on the x100 because you would totally get more bokeh and better image quality. I totally got hated on lol.
@@DylanBlackburn I have the a6600, best aps-c camera, best feeling body and just all around little beast. I did have the a6000 and my niece inherited it. Now with the really small lens like the 15mm f1.4 for aps-c, we have a real compact camera. I looked at the A7C and generally don't like the body. The a6600 feels far superior with its larger grip and better EVF. Though I would like to have a full frame sensor but the small one does wonders. Hope Sony does wonders with their next version of the A7C. My A7R3 is just too big and heavy to walk around with.
Hey I just tried your preset and it works perfectly with my older a7iii and a7c! awesome work. Also I paired my a7c with the samyang 35 2.8, really compact and light as well
Glad you love the presets!! I used to own the Samyang 35 2.8 but sold it a while back to someone buying their first camera. Amazing lens for it’s tiny size!
Ditto. It was my first lens when I got my a7iii. Got rid of it but miss it everyday and recently got the 24mm G. Hopefully it’ll fill void. I like the 24mm and ability to go to 36mm with super 35.

Great video! Id love to see a review of the 24g on an apsc body. No-one has done a solid review yet and I think it would be a highly sought after lens for apsc since it equals a 35mm equivalent.

HI Dylan, I've heard awful feedback about the lens distortion. I know on still the camera can auto correct (only on JPEG not RAW), but is it the same for videos?
I’m thinking about exactly the same setup A7c + 24mm G But I don’t know what camera should I get? A7c or Fuji x100v Looking for a compact setup to easily travel with. And I want to put the camera in a water housing to shoot surfer. I love the colors of the x100v but I’m not sure if the focus system of the camera can works with surfers photo&videography Thanks for you help mate 🙏🏾🤙🏾
Great video! I have the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and Sony 20mm f1.8. Does it make sense for me to buy the 24mm f2.8 or should i go for the 40mm f2.5? Gonna use it for video on my Sony a7iv..
Thanks for making. I am just investing in the a7cr with the 24 g. I think the a7c with 24 is a great choice. more versatile and cheaper than a Leica. I owned the x100v for a while and despite its size it always left me disappointed, it’s more of a jpg camera imo, hence moving to a7cr and the 24mm. I hopping the extra resolution will enable me to crop in for 35mm shots if needed. 🤔. Like the the Len’s hood as well. Primary shooter is the Canon R5, just wish canon would do there version of the a7cr so I could use all my rfvglass 😪
I was thinking the same thing with the A7CR and the 24mm. Being able to crop for 35mm equiv and still have more resolution than the original A7C kinda sold me on that camera
I love this video! I have a Sony A7R3, but for my travel I use a Fuji x100v. After using a Sony, any other AF is absolute garbage (including the Fuji x100v). I was considering getting a Leica Q2, but I may just get the 24mm lens instead for the A7R3
You are going to ditch your GM for the 24mm, f2.8, G? What about the terrible barrel distortion on the 24mm, f2.8, G? Doesn’t that bother you? I have the GM, and myself thought about adding a smaller 24mm for a more portable everyday set up like you, and thought about the 24, f2.8, G, but after seeing the soft corners and the charts with corrections off there was no way. This goes for the Tamron, 24mm, f2.8,( bought that one and returned it- wild barrel distortion), the Sigma, 24mm, f2.0,(just as bad), and the Sony …I’m surprised they put this lens out there with the type of distortion it has. Your GM is a beautiful lens with no distortion at all. It is the best 24mm out there. The 24G just gives you size. Do you really want to trade for that?
Hello Dylan, I have the same combo (sony a7c + 24mm 2.8 G) and I love the electronic aperture ring but every time I use this lense my aperture dial automatically disable so I am just able to change the aperture using the lense ring. I tried to change the settings in the custom keys menus but I can´t find a solution. It happens the same with yours or is just a setting that I need to change? Thank you so much for all your videos!
@@adrianyaelzamora yes, the “problem” was that you need to use the electronic ring or the dial, you can’t use both at the same time. In order to use the dial, the aperture ring needs to be all the way to the letter A. More than a problem it is an inconvenience. I have not found any other way. Let me know if you find it 🙏🏻
@@lucyboldo Thanks for the reply! I don’t actually have this camera but this detail caught my attention since I’m thinking of buying one. Oh and I’m afraid we’re speaking the wrong language. I think I need some chicharrones de la Ramos! 🤠
I think so! Especially with the A7CR being half the price but basically the same sensor as the Q3. The 28mm 1.7 lens on both of those cameras is actually closer to a 26mm so the 24mm in this video is a pretty solid substitute.
@@DylanBlackburn Thank you for the insight. I was also looking into the Sony RX1R II. Do you have any thoughts on that camera or have you tried it? Cheers!
What do you think about that lens now after the honeymoon period? :) I'm thinking of getting it to pair it with my Zeiss 35mm F2.8, Sony 50mm F2.5 G and Sony 85mm F1.8
Does anyone know how to fix this issue im having with the a7c, when ever I attempt to touch the screen to focus on a specific spot the camera picks up my finger as If i was leaning my face into the view finder and switches to view finder instead of the screen when all im trying to do is touch a specific spot on the screen.

I think it’s a great alternative if you can find it used! I got mine used for like $400. Otherwise it may be worth spending the extra money for the 20 1.8 which is still reasonably priced. I’ve seen the 20mm go for $650 used.
I’ll ask the same question I posed to another…Both these lenses, Sony, 24mm, f2.8 G and the Sigma 24mm, f2, DG, DN have terrible barrel distortion. How are you able to get past this and does this bother you?

Since you have the 20mm 1.8 and 24-70 already, both of those lenses seem kind of pointless.. what are you going to filming?
@@DylanBlackburn i need a compact lens for EDC photo and video. The Sigma is sometimes too big for me to bring around. Thanks for the reply!
@@DylanBlackburn if they had put the a75 flip screen and increased the resolution on the lcd and evf it would have been an unbeatable compact 🙂🙂
I love this video! I have a Sony A7R3, but for my travel I use a Fuji x100v. After using a Sony, any other AF is absolute garbage (including the Fuji x100v). I was considering getting a Leica Q2, but I may just get the 24mm lens instead for the A7R3
I have the 24GM, but is considering to replace it with the 24G. 24GM is a bit big for everyday photo.
Hey could you fix the problem?
hows it in low light
Great Video
Actually I like more these moviewshots here and colors for movie :D it looks like recorded via fuji
Now you got me thinking that I need an everyday 24mm lens…
Let’s make 24mm the new 35mm!
Leaving the brand aside, is this a solid competitor kit against the Leica Q2 or even Q3? Cheers!
Cheers!
24 is great. I program my trash button for APSC mode so then its a 36
What do you think about that lens now after the honeymoon period? :) I'm thinking of getting it to pair it with my Zeiss 35mm F2.8, Sony 50mm F2.5 G and Sony 85mm F1.8
It’s not that sharp and there might be copy variation, test before you buy

Beautiful bts how did you color grade the FX3 footage?
Thank you! I color grade all of my videos with Phantom LUTs!
Does anyone know how to fix this issue im having with the a7c, when ever I attempt to touch the screen to focus on a specific spot the camera picks up my finger as If i was leaning my face into the view finder and switches to view finder instead of the screen when all im trying to do is touch a specific spot on the screen.
Are you accidentally covering the sensor when you go to touch the screen?
@@DylanBlackburn that is exactly what is happening, is there a way to turn off the sensor? Because its always picking up my finger…
@@TheeMr72k go to your menu, purple camera tab 2, page 7/10 and set “FINDER/MONITOR” to Monitor manual! Hope that helps.
@@DylanBlackburn will give that a try, appreciate the quick replies and love the content boss. 🤝
Come on Man!! Everyday Carry Around Camera?? Its freakin expensiv professional setup! Dream of 99% guys watchin this movie 😂 and you made a title to get them freakin mad! 🤷
This setup is like $2K.. Not that bad
Bot 2k but 3 K mate ;) i mean .. new not used in Poland. For polish guys thats a buch od money! Need to go for a loan for few years to buy it ... Or get in to real professional level. So callin it, walk around setup is a joke 😉
@@FreeLensImagethat’s a lot of money here in USA as well.
Man… when Sony drops an A7CII…
Hopefully in 2023! Internal specs of the A7IV, improved viewfinder and grip… might just be my dream camera
@@DylanBlackburn and hopefully a 2nd control dial so lenses without aperture ring are not as important I might add.
Could you share the post color recipe with us
I’m really considering the a7c kit lense for an everyday set up on my a7c. Since my other lenses are the 50/1.2 and the 35/1.4
Also a solid option!
Will you upgrade to A7C ii?
Probably the A7CR!
I like that you can wear a cap with the A7C. I can't with my A7.
Where is your leather strap from?
Clever Supply Co!
good one
Can you recommend this lens for video? Can it compete with 20mm 1.8? Looking for a lighter setup for travels. 😊
I think it’s a great alternative if you can find it used! I got mine used for like $400. Otherwise it may be worth spending the extra money for the 20 1.8 which is still reasonably priced. I’ve seen the 20mm go for $650 used.
Which camera took Your video?
Sony FX3!
Hi Dylan what camera strap you use?

I’m torn between this lens and the sigma 24mm f2 … my use for it is for videos / gimbal / and everyday carry BUT I really can’t decide between them😭
I’ll ask the same question I posed to another…Both these lenses, Sony, 24mm, f2.8 G and the Sigma 24mm, f2, DG, DN have terrible barrel distortion. How are you able to get past this and does this bother you?
Sigma is a lot sharper and has less distortion
I have to buy this kombination
You won’t regret it!!
WHAT LENS DO U SE FOR THIS VID
24-105 f4 :)

Ah yes because I don’t feel like sharing every single photo from my personal life. Crazy huh? Don’t be an idiot
I would strongly recommend you the lens brand Samyang 24mm f2.8!
much smaller, lighter and cheaper
Does it have animal af tracking in 120fps?
She's fit
I wish you would explain how you edit.
I have a video on my channel that goes over how I edit with my presets!
Nah fam. 24 is too wide bruh
ur cute
24 is too wide .... 28 or 35 is more like it
No. 24 is perfect to capture everything
36mm FOV at 26MP on a7cr… Lovely, light weight travel lens
Depends on what purpose, if use it for travel, definitely I would take 24 . If wanna do street photography , yes it's a bit wide
@@SPDTDLAnd if you crop in post, even better …
This is entirely situational and stylistically dependent
Don’t put that noise for the shutters, it is very annoying
Thanks for your feedback! I like the A7C shutter sounds so I'll keep them in. I can potentially make them slightly more quiet
@@DylanBlackburn thats a good idea, it is a little bit too loud, thanks!
