Hi David, I’m surprised you addressed the subject of “this generation” without looking at how that phrase is used in every other instance in the Gospels. Seems like that would be important right? In every other instance that the phrase is used, it’s used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to. “But to what shall I liken THIS GENERATION? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,” (Matt 11:16) "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.” (Matt 12:41) "The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.” (Matt 12:42) "Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with THIS WICKED GENERATION.” (Matt 12:45) "But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does THIS GENERATION seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.” (Mark 8:12) "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in THIS adulterous and sinful GENERATION, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” ( Mark 8:38) AND THEN: "Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon THIS GENERATION.” (Matt 23:36 "Assuredly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” (Matt 24:36) Notice that every time THIS GENERATION is used it used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to. It’s also important to see that in the olivet discourse Jesus said, “this generation” and not “that generation.” He was most definitely speaking to the generation he was speaking too. You also made a comment that it can’t mean the generation that he was speaking to because some of them would be dead. But that’s the case with any generation that Jesus might be speaking to because people die everyday. But remember that Jesus told his disciples that only SOME of them would be alive to see him return in the glory of his Father with the angels. Still within a generation AND some of them wold still be alive. "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (Matt 16:28) You also said that Preterist have nothing to look forward to if Jesus has already come. I find that odd since every believer looks forward to the day when they will be with the Lord…when we pass from this life to the next. I would think that every believer looks forward to that. And that fact is, every believer since 70 a.d. who has looked for a return of Christ has not had their hope fulfilled. Every single one. BUT they did go to be with the Lord. It’s also odd that people would be looking for a visible kingdom that people can point to and say, “see there it is”… or “there it is in Jerusalem”….. especially when Jesus specifically said: "Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;” Luke 17:20 "Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.” (John 4:21)

@@PreachingJesus parable of the fig tree is 1948 Israel born in a day a weak tender branch of "his" branch the Abrahamic land covenant. It put forth leaves in the 1948,49 war expanding its borders. Blood moons are a sign for Israel, solar eclipses are omens for the nations. Stars falling is a metaphor for Jews dying; Gen. 22:17, Dan. 8:10, Rev. 12:4 with 1\3 murdered in the holocaust.
There wasn't even an attempt to do a syntactical study on the phrase "This generation." He didn't look at any of the other times Matthew used that phrase. If he had, then he would've seen that the phrase is exclusively used to describe the generation of Jews alive in Jesus' time. Therefore, partial preterism stands unrefuted. This video would never cause a preterist to even flinch, let alone change his mind.
@@joshpeterson2451doesn't seem like it fulfills any of the promises of the thousand year reign from revelation. No offense intended, but if this is Jesus ruling with an iron rod his rule does seem petty weak.
Revelations description of the thousand year reign really breaks this view for me, unless we think some people are dying in heaven, and that most of the people in heaven will rebel against God at the end of the thousand years.
At 21:30 onward, He pontificates that Jesus said, "This generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled," because Jesus thought it was possible that He could return in a few years. However, Jesus did not use the subjunctive mood (This generation might not pass away), but rather the indicative mood in the future tense (This generation will not pass away). There is no ambiguity. Jesus made a prophecy. If His prophecy was wrong, then He was a false prophet. Obviously, that's not the case. Therefore, we're left with preterism.
@joshpeterson2451 the generation that witness parable of the fig tree become tender and put forth leaves would see things come to pass. The fig branch became tender in 1948 and put forth leaves in 1948. These things are like as in the days of Noah people eating and drinking, marrying then the Rapture of the believers. Two in the field, millstone and bed one is taken the other left.
@@rickhuntling7338, 1. That's not how Jesus used the phrase "this generation." Every other time He used that phrase, He referred to His immediate contemporaries: first century Jews. 2. How long is a generation? Because 1948 was 75 years ago. That's definitely reaching the end of a generation. Would you say the rapture must happen in the next couple years, lest Jesus is a false prophet?
@@joshpeterson2451 HE used generation face to face chastening the offenders, not in a prophecy that by mater of fact is his second coming language above verse 33 and secret Rapture verses below by using Jewish wedding language. "only the father knoweth the day and the hour" and "as a thief in the night" are from Jewish wedding traditional sayings and actions. The verse doesnt say inside this generation, it says this generation will not pass untill these things be fulfilled. Since these thing north of 34 didn't have a second coming or south of 34 a secret bride received and taken in the midnight hour, I'm positive none of the above happened in 70ad. @@rickhuntling7338 "He used 'generation' face-to-face chastening the offenders, not in a prophecy." How is, "All these things will come upon *this generation*" not a prophecy? In Matthew 23:37, He prophesies calamities on "this generation," clearly referring to first-century Israel. In Matthew 24:34, He prophesies calamities on "this generation." In Matthew 24:1-2, He begins the context by saying, "Not one stone will be left upon another," referring to the temple in first-century Israel. The disciples ask, "When will *these things* be?" The "these things" must be referring to the destruction of the temple in AD 70, which is why Jesus said it would happen in "this generation." Jesus is very consistent in Matthew 23-24. "This generation" very clearly refers to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. I do agree that Matthew 24:36 and following is about the second coming. After all, the disciples asked, "What will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age." However, there is a hard shift in verse 36, since He says, "BUT, concerning THAT day and hour, no one knows." This is in contrast to "these things," a phrase repeated multiple times in verses 4-35. Verses 4-35 are about the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and answer the disciples' question, "When will these things be?" Matthew 24:36-25:46 are about the second coming and final judgment and answer the disciples' question, "What will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age." "You tell me what the parable is." I just did. It's your turn. "When was the abomination seen?" When General Titus was worshiped by his soldiers on the Temple Mount, went into the temple, challenged Yahweh to a fight, slashed the curtain with his sword, slept with a prostitute on a scroll of the Law in the Holy of Holies, and took all the treasures of the temple back to Rome. This is all recounted in the Babylonian Talmud, the Wars of the Jews, etc. In fact, what Titus did fits perfectly with Daniel 9:24-27 and the seventieth seven. Titus made a peace treaty with the surrounding nations as he invaded Israel (as recounted in John Gill's commentary). This treaty lasted from Titus' arrival until the end of the war, which was exactly 7 years (early AD 67 - early AD 74). Halfway through the war (July AD 70), Titus put an end to sacrifices and offerings by besieging Jerusalem. The siege started in April and lasted 5 months. At the end of July, AD 70, the Jews stopped offering sacrifices to conserve food. The war would end 3.5 years later, early in AD 74. By AD 74, everything listed in Daniel 9:24 had been fulfilled. Vision and prophecy had been sealed up. Sin had been atoned for and put away. The transgression of the abomination of desolation had been completed, and the Holy One (Jesus) had been anointed as King. It all fits perfectly with the partial preterist view.

It might be interesting to note that it took 40 years for all those who rebelled against God after leaving Egypt to die in the wilderness and that the approximate 40 years between the crucifixion and 70 AD most of that "generation of vipers" would have been dead. That being said, those who chanted to Pilate took the responsibility upon themselves... and their children.
I have the Hebrew copy of Matthew and it says ‘That generation’. The Greek version is incorrect, as the wording is a future prediction and that those of the Ante-Nicene Fathers point to future event. Many of their quotes are stated after the destruction of the temple.
An easy way to prove Jesus was NOT the Son of God is the fact that he promised his followers 2,000 years ago that the end of time was so close that they would not perish before they saw him come back in all his glory (Mark 8:38-9:1 & Matthew 24:3-34). Thus, he warned his disciples to "watch" and be ready (Matthew 24:42-44). In fact, the gospel Jesus himself preached was to repent for the end was near (Mark1:14-15). Paul took it so seriously that he told people not to bother getting married, for "the time is short" - Jesus is returning soon (1 Corinthians 7:25-31). Indeed, Paul expected he and other believers would be "caught up" together in the clouds when Jesus returned (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Today, Christians perform psychological gymnastics to justify his delay in returning by claiming, "One day is like a thousand years to the Lord." Too bad no one told his DISCIPLES who sold everything and abstained from marriage that! If a date told you to wait for them because they were nearby and almost there but did not show up for 2,000 hours, you'd admit no matter how they reinterpret words like "near," they weren't being honest with you.
@JD The verses about some of the disciples not tasting death before they saw the Son of Man coming in his kingdom / they saw that the kingdom of God has come with power / they see the kingdom of God were all followed with some of the disciples witnessing Jesus at his transfiguration. Matthew 16 : 28 - 17 : 2 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. *After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”* Mark 9 : 1 - 3 "And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power. *After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.”* Luke 9 : 27 - 29 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God. *About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.”* These few disciples saw the kingdom of God and they saw it come with power. They saw Jesus (the Son of Man) coming in his kingdom. He was in glory and then Elijah and Moses came to him in order to discuss when Jesus would depart soon in Jerusalem. The earthly ministry of Jesus was his first coming. His second coming took place in 70 AD when He used the Roman army to destroy Jerusalem and its temple in order to bring an end to the Mosaic covenant and to punish those responsible for murdering him. Jesus proved over and over he is the Son of God. We look at his resurrection, his teachings, his miracles, and his fulfilled prophecies and the mountain of evidence shines brighter than the sun as to who he is. He is the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Messiah, the Chosen One, the Savior.
@@EyeToob I have a question. If I’m understanding you correctly this scripture implies “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will (still be alive) before they see the (Son of Man’s transfiguration)” If I’m understanding it correctly my question is which of the apostle died within those 6 days? Thank you in advance.
@@marctorrez774 None of them died within those 6 days, but 3 of them (Peter, James, and John) who were standing there did see the Son of Man's transfiguration. Did Jesus ever say anything about the kingdom coming during his ministry? Yes! In Matthew 12 : 28 Jesus told the Pharisees, "But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, *then the kingdom of God has come upon you."* In the New Testament we find a principle called "The Already and The Not Yet" in effect. So in one sense, the miracles of Jesus, his transfiguration, and the entire ministry of Jesus shows that the kingdom of God was already there before Jesus was crucified. In another sense the kingdom had not come yet, because the kingdom was going to come with God's wrath (Matthew 3 : 2, 10 and 4 : 17) and that's why everyone was told to repent. If they repented, they would not get wiped out by God. Did Israel repent? No. The coming of the kingdom came in full in the year of 70 AD when Jesus came upon Jerusalem and destroyed the city and the temple through the Roman army. This is exactly how God came to Babylon (Isaiah 13) and Egypt (Isaiah 19) in the Old Testament. Jesus even predicted he would come before his generation disappeared : *"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."* Matthew 24 : 34 "all these things" included the coming of Jesus and the gospel being preached to the whole world. Did this happen? Colossians 1 : 6 "...In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world..." Romans 1 : 8 "First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world." Romans 10 : 17 - 18 "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Colossians 1 : 23 "...This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant." By the way the Bible understands the whole world as the Roman empire - see Luke 2 : 1 ======================= So can we say someone who was standing with Jesus remained alive to see the coming of the Son of Man in God's kingdom in power when Jesus came to Jerusalem in 70 AD? Yes, John the apostle lived long enough to see it. He even told Christians in the first century they were living in the LAST HOUR. "Dear children, *this is the last hour;* and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. *This is how we know it is the last hour."* 1 John 2 : 18 Jesus even told Peter concerning John, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” John 21 : 22
I appreciate your video as I'm a preterist. But, there are no Scriptures which state Christ is returning physically to set up a physical kingdom some 2000 years or more after He returned to fulfill prophecy. ❤
@Thelordismhstrength The beautiful thing is how Daniel and other prophets align with Christ's Words in the Gospels that align with Paul's epistles and finally Revelation. I would suggest that Daniel's sealed prophecies were opened in the book of Revelation and remained so because they were about to be fulfilled. What an amazing book!!
@Thelordismhstrength His prophesied (and now) Kingdom is spiritual and everlasting throughout the ages. Israel's misunderstanding was that the kingdom would be physical, too. Christ said that it came without observation and it was at hand when He walked the earth. In addition, it's important to recognize that modern day Israel is not biblical Israel of God.
@@loleki737 oh. Yes his Kingdomn is spritual. But there is a physical one to. The Millennium reign! But Israel taught that it would take place back 2,000 years ago.
Jesus was talking to his disciples in that generation and said that it that it wouldn't pass till all these things take place. Now he wasn't talking about our generation, but the generation he was talking to. Jesus was living in old Jerusalem that was destoryed that you see in the ruins. The modern-day Jerusalem is not the one Jesus lived in. It is the one that lies in ruins. The end came when the temple was destroyed in 70ad. Now we live in the age was to come. He now reigns in our hearts. 🤗
Thank you for this video. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. All words of Jesus (Red letters). Especially note tribulation so bad nothing worse ever… :19 “and never shall be”. Worse has happened since back then. It is coming. Maranatha!
The disciples question to Jesus in Luke 21 cannot be broken up into sections to suggest that the first part is about the destruction of the temple and the second part about the Second Coming or Rapture of the church. Matthew records Jesus as saying "this generation shall not pass until ALL THESE THINGS ARE FULFILLED". All these things means that everything Jesus just enumerated regarding the destruction of the temple and his coming in clouds of heaven with power and glory at the end of the age. Jesus is saying that the destruction of the temple will happen at the end of the Old Testament eon (era/age). The Mosaic system which was about to give way to the New Testament or Christian era, would end with Christ coming in clouds with power against his enemies (those who put him to death).
The phrase “the kingdom of heaven is within you” is found in Luke 17:20-21 in the New Testament of the Bible. In this passage, Jesus was asked by some Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come. Jesus answered that God’s kingdom was coming, but not in a way that they would be able to see with their eyes. He said that people would not say, “Look, here it is!” or “There it is!” because God’s kingdom is within you.
What kind of reasoning is "half of the generation would have passed away by 70 A.D. so therefore that could not mean what Jesus meant? Seems to me that that would be the likely fact that many would have passed away - Truly I say to you, there are "some" standing here which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom - Matthew 16:28. He didn't say that every person of that generation would be alive. This is why you're struggling to explain the clear meaning of these passages because you deny what Jesus plainly said. Let me also address what you brought up about Peter; congratulations, you've just justified the mockers that Peter was warning them about if Peter was preaching the soon return of Christ. Peter was preaching the return because Jesus told them He was coming in their lifetime. How about 1 Thessalonians 5 - Paul says to the Church at Thessalonica, "But YOU bretheren are not in darkness that "that day" should overtake YOU as a thief". What "that day" is Paul referring to here? He just mentioned it in 5:2 - "For you yourselves know perfectly that "the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night" - Interesting choice of words from Paul; could those be the words of Jesus from Matthew 24:43-51?? The apocalyptic language used about sun, moon and stars falling and world calamity is not foreign to all of scripture in regards to local judgments on specific rulers or governments and appears several times in the Old Testament, why do assume for them to not follow that same pattern in the New Testament?
@SheepOfChrist818 the transfiguration was not Jesus coming in his kingdom, it was about his departure and nobody died with the 6 days prior to that event.
@SheepOfChrist818 “when we told you about the coming of our Lord”. They weren’t talking about the vision on the Mount; they were talking about His coming. The whole chapter is about His coming not His transfiguration. This is why he goes into the swift destruction of the false prophets in chapter 2.
Jerry Bernard · Let's look at the facts again: 1Thess 5:2&4 "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief." Notice that Paul says that those in the first century were not in darkness, because they were in the light, and that day should not overtake them. If they were in darkness, then that day would easily overtake them. Which, means that THAT DAY had to occur in their own lifetime while they were still alive! Why can't you get it straight? Your future hope is not built on the facts of scripture.
When I was researching this topic, I said if there was just an eyewitness. Because you would figure that something this dramatic, somebody had to see it. And then I discovered the Jewish wars by Josephus.
@@mikeingram3515 The return of Jesus is not a local event friend. EVERY eye will witness it. Matthew 24:29-31 is a future prophecy that has yet to happen. " all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory"
I'm a partial preterist and believe all of the Olivet Discourse and the majority of Revelation were fulfilled. What helps me see it is that, beyond the phrase "this generation", Daniel 7 places the "Son of Man" receiving His kingdom at the time of the war between the Jews and Rome. The Gospels and Revelation say the same thing. Revelation is explicit that one of the heads of the beast was alive in his day. As Gentiles, we wouldn't be Christians if the kingdom had not already come. The nations were prophesied to begin to serve the "Son of Man" in Daniel 7 after the conflict between the Jews and Rome. However, that doesn't preclude the fact that Jesus will also judge the nations. There are other passages that speak to that outside of the Olivet Discourse. The first resurrection of Rev. 20 at the fall of Jerusalem was at the beginning of the millennium. Christ is currently in His millennial reign and will judge all (including us) who were not in the first resurrection at the second resurrection and Great White Throne judgement.
So you think the scriptures speaking of three comings of Jesus instead of two? so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. Hebrews 9:28
@@PreachingJesus When the texts speak of "coming again", the context was at the end of Jesus' generation. This was at the fall of Jerusalem (Rev. 20:1-6). This, including the first resurrection, was prior to the millennium. Next, according to Rev. 20, is the Battle of Gog/Magog, second resurrection and white throne judgment. We're not necessarily looking for a "coming" or parousia. That was specific to the return of the King after He received the kingdom. Jesus is currently reigning.
The coming of Jesus in judgment on Jerusalem counts as a "cooking" as much as Jesus coming to Paul to save him counts as a "coming." If Jesus doesn't touch the earth bodily, then it's not a "coming."
@@PreachingJesus, Did Jesus literally appear to Paul on the road to Damascus? If so, does that count as a "coming"? If not, then neither does Jesus spiritually appearing over Jerusalem in judgment. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

"This generation"... is not that generation of those there listening at the time Jesus was speaking, but, the generation that will exist in the time of his prophecy. And, it's not a ,"Mystery", that Jesus does not know the day of his coming, though his Father does. Jesus only knows what his God and Father shows him. Yes, Jesus, and his God and Father are one. Not one and the same person, that's confusing. But one in the same word and Spirit... mind. Yes, just as Jesus prayed to his God and Father, that we too, his followers, be one in Jesus. (And more than once) One in the same Spirit and Word...mind. Not all one, as in one big God. See? Now that becomes no mystery anymore. Just simple sense. Peace be with you my brother. That we are one together with Christ, as Christ is one with God. Amen?

Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.” (Mark 8:12) "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in THIS adulterous and sinful GENERATION, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” ( Mark 8:38) AND THEN: "Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon THIS GENERATION.” (Matt 23:36 "Assuredly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” (Matt 24:36 ) Notice that every time THIS GENERATION is used it used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to. "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (Matt 16:28 ) You also said that Preterist have nothing to look forward to if Jesus has already come. It’s also odd that people would be looking for a visible kingdom that people can point to and say, “see there it is”… or “there it is in Jerusalem”….. especially when Jesus specifically said: "Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;” Luke 17:20 "Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.” (John 4:21)"

That being said, is your soul prepared to enter God's kingdom ? Your salvation is the most important thing you can have in life.
Then he would have hinted at it by saying “there will be a certain generation” but instead he just says a bunch of bad things will happen without specifying a future gen. Then goes on to say “this generation will not pass” before all that stuff happens
This could have been the Jewish generation He mentioned who will enter the tribulation period in the future and not the Christian generation considering that generally there are only two generations; i.e. the generation of the First Adam physically and the generation of the Second Adam spiritually under Jesus Christ. This is where we got the term "Regeneration" spiritually.
Well, since He started out by telling the Pharisees and scribes in the temple that their habitation was left to THEM desolate, it was the generation He was looking directly at that was standing literally physically in front of Him. And, since he began His explanation to His apostles with the temple completely desolated with not a stone left on another, it had to be, again, the generation He was living in and interacting with. THAT one. The annuls of recorded history tell the tale of all the events described to have occurred in the years between roughly 65-70AD. It was THAT generation they were walking around in. The scriptures, recorded history, and the inerrant factual words of Jesus support that conclusion. And by the way, the NT scriptures were written to the first century readers, or the original readers. The pronouns apply to THEM. Not us 2000 years later! We are reading their mail.
Matthew 24:34 "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place." If the things have not taken place yet, then not all of that generation have not passed away yet. They are still alive, hiding behind companies and corporations, manipulating the politics and commerce of the world.

Who is the "you" Jesus is speaking of..... give me context please.
Re the comments below from preterists, I think you are placing way too much weight on the words "this generation" to mean the generation Jesus was directly speaking to. If you read the rest of your bible, it's obvious none of the major future events (from perspective of Jesus' time) were fulfilled. No one can, with complete honesty, claim that Jesus literally and physically returned with 10k saints, that the world wide general resurrection took place, that death was permanently defeated and we were given new spiritual bodies, that God made new heavens and new earth, the death and hades were cast along with satan into the lake of fire and we now live in heaven with God and walk of streets of gold, et cetera. No, NONE of this happened, unless you torture the scriptures. Therefore, the passage re "this generation" is not being understand correctly. You can't decide ahead of time to take one passage literally, then turn around and allegorized the heck out of everything else. I agree with David Servant, that you must consider the preponderance of the evidence, especially when there seems to be an apparent conflict. Further, I don't think anyone has a compete, exhaustive, and flawless understanding of eschatology. God has obviously left lots of mystery in it, otherwise it would have been clearly and unambiguously written, unlike what He has done re soteriology (how we are to be saved through Christ) which is explained and repeated over and over from multiple angles, which is why we do not debate about its core message. Did Jesus' coming happen the way the Jews expected it? No. Was Jesus' mission what the Jews expected it to be? NO. My guess is that no prophecy foretold in the OT and fulfilled in the NT unfolded the way the "experts" expected. This should get our attention and it means that all of us are bound to be wrong to some extent re our eschatology--hence the need for more humility.
@sergio I read your full comment. One thing you said reminded me of what a brother in Christ said in our weekly zoom bible study. A friend of over 40 years pleaded with me several weeks ago, to join his bible study. I told him Al, you know that I will just torment your group. They are all futurists. Believe anti-Christ, future return of Christ, etc. I am a full Preterist. He insisted, so I joined. The comment that this brother in Christ made was "heaven and earth hasn't passed away yet." I love this brother, and I tried to be kind, and asked him, "have you read (Matthew 5:17-18?) "Did not come to destroy, but fulfill. Until heaven and earth pass away, one dot, one tittle---" My next question was "did Jesus fulfill what he came to do?" After his response, I said that we need to talk and I will show you what this "heaven and earth" actually means in this Biblical context. Like most futurists, who believe that it referred to a literal heaven and earth, was not interested a conversation.
Aren’t you also just deciding which scriptures are figurative and which aren’t? You also err in saying you’d rather murder one verse to save hundreds than to murder hundreds to save one. That is a ridiculous way of speaking or thinking about anything our Lord uttered. We should all rather try and understand to whom he was speaking to, which time he was speaking in and to what context he was speaking in.
David, you really seem like a good guy. Though your condescending snickering was a bit annoying, I can understand your incredulity given your woodenly literal hermeneutic. Your comments were disturbing, not because they rang true but because of how you impose your presuppositions onto the Bible. You’re unwittingly playing right into the hands of the atheists. You are literally making their point. You deny the clear meaning of "this generation" simply because you can't handle the implications. Seriously, this is no way to interpret God's holy, inspired, inerrant Word. C.S. Lewis, who held to your futurist interpretation of the Olivet, wrote that Mt 24:34 was the most embarrassing verse in the Bible. You say that either "this generation" needs to be reinterpreted to deny it’s plain meaning or the rest of the Olivet is held in contempt. You are creating a false dilemma. Every bit of the Bible is synergistic. We don't choose which parts we like and discard the parts that cause us consternation. So, you are willing to throw out every usage of "this generation" and all derivatives like "this wicked and perverse generation" simply because they don’t fit your paradigm? I find to be an astonishing admission that might come from a liberal theologian, not a man who believes that all Scripture is God breathed.
You clearly love God and His Word. That's evident. And you have a sweet spirit even in your dismissive laughter. But if you're going to attempt to argue that Jesus couldn't have meant what He plainly said (and He said it emphatically), you will need to do more soul searching. How committed are you to the truth. The truth, not your version of the truth. You contradicted yourself so many times between your attempt to debunk preterism and this one, that I lost count. Perhaps you begin by looking up every usage of "this generation" in the Gospels. Whether you like it or not, every time Jesus was speaking to "this generation" it's abundantly clear that he was addressing His first century audience. If He meant "that generation", that's exactly what He would have said. If He meant “this race” He would have used genos (as per 1 Pet 2:9) not genea. Hermeneutics 101 posits that we interpret the less clear through the lens of the clear. We must begin with the certainty that what Jesus said He meant. And btw, a generation is a time period not a group of people i.e. 40 years. Your comment about 2/3 of those living at the time of the cross who perished by 70 AD somehow nullifies Jesus's statement, sounds like it came from an atheist. Jesus was speaking about a time period of approx. 40 years… not a group of people. The same 40 years that Chuck Smith and Hal Lindsey used in their 1988 return of Christ prognostication. Even they knew that Jesus said that all would be fulfilled within a generation (though they both played games with a gap in the 70 weeks of Daniel). Jesus also said rather emphatically that, though not many, some would survive to see His parousia. (Mt 16:27-28). In addition, He said that the disciples wouldn't finish going through the cities of Israel as they were being doggedly persecuted, until He came. (Mt 10:23). So, you need to start with the clarity of the timing of these statements and work from there. Time is never figuratized in Scripture (see Ezek 12:21-29 for proof). It's ludicrous to insist that "no man knows the day or the hour" was supposed to mean that no could know within thousands of years. That’s absurd. The entire purpose of the fig tree analogy was the imminent timing. They were to know approx. when He was going to return. Not the exact day or hour but within a few years. It would be within a generation. Obviously, you don't like it, but we have to deal with what is, not what we wish it to be. When Jesus, through the Angel, told John "things which must take place shortly", do you truly believe Jesus didn't know the day or the hour while sitting at the right hand of the father after being fully glorified? In the mid AD 60s, the time was exceedingly short. He didn’t say “things which might take place.” He emphatically stated, “thing which MUST take place shortly.” The closer the NT authors were to the end of the last days of the old covenant age, the more imminent the language became. You can believe the nonsense about the Apostles not being able to communicate time clearly when they wrote (in approx AD 62-64) that "the end of all things is near" (1 Peter 4:7) and "in a very little while He who is coming will come and will NOT delay" (Heb 10:37). But you do so at your our peril. And the audacity of turning "shortly", “quickly” and “at hand” into a long period of time rather telling. Why do you think the scoffers addressed by Peter were gaining traction? It had been 34 years since Jesus's "this generation" statement and time was running out on Jesus's prediction to return within a generation. Peter was quick to point out that everything was working to perfection when he quoted Ps 90:4. It had nothing to do with negating every time referent in the NT which is a ludicrous assumption, and everything to do with the fact that in God's timing, everything was still right on schedule. He gave the Jews a 40-year grace period to repent. God wasn't communicating with Himself. These imminent words were written to a beleaguered, heavily persecuted church that was about to go through the horrific Neronic Persecution. They knew that their martyrdom was near. That’s why the Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians to remain as they were because the “time is short.” When the Apostle John was told, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near", He meant it. He wasn’t playing word games. They had to know when to flee Judea. They had been given a plethora of signs and events in the Olivet and they were exhorted to be vigilant…to remain awake so that the thief would not take them unaware. Luke records "when YOU see Jerusalem surrounded by armies", while in Matthew's account he wrote, "when YOU see the abomination of desolation"... Lastly, when you mocked the principle of audience relevance I was dismayed. Eighteen times in Matthew's account, Jesus referenced "YOU." And you tried to argue that every time "you" is mentioned in the NT that today's audience would have to be excluded if we assume the YOU in the Olivet concerned only those to whom Jesus was speaking. David, that's a terrible argument. When a prophecy is concerned the supremacy of the original audience is paramount. It is absolutely imperative that we consider the direct audience. It has to remain in context. Jesus told THEM not US “see that no one leads YOU astray.” “YOU will hear of wars and rumors of wars.” “See that YOU are not alarmed.” “Then they will deliver YOU up to tribulation and put YOU to death, and YOU will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.” This is clearly not a generic YOU. These are not doctrinal statements or moral exhortations that must be handed down generation to generation… to be applied. You said it yourself that we aren’t told to bring a cloak to the Apostle Paul. “When YOU come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments.” This YOU cannot apply to us. (continued)
(continued) “So when YOU see the abomination of desolation…” “Pray that YOUR flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.” They were to witness this. Not us. Why would there be travel difficulties on the Sabbath or in the winter if this was regarding today? That is clearly a first century warning. You simply cannot miss the audience relevance, David. “Then if anyone says to YOU, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.” Why? Because Christ’s coming would bring untold judgment as His wrath was about to be poured out on the Christ-killing generation. That’s why Jesus, after warning of the Greatest tribulation that would come upon them said, “wherever the corpse is the vultures will gather.” This is about destruction! And yes, the destruction came upon them just like in the days of Noah. While the wicked who weren’t paying attention said peace and safety, they were swept away in utter destruction. Do you not understand how apocalyptic language is used throughout the Bible? No one is figuratizing parts of scripture willy nilly. You need to prove to yourself why when Jesus said the stars would fall from the sky, that this should be taken physically, given the fact that the OT never used it that way. Not once. Isaiah wrote, “For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light.” This is judgment language. I didn’t make it up. And it’s scattered throughout the first testament. God used this kind of hyperbolic, poetic language when He was about to use an invading army to wipe out a nation He was about to judge. In Isa 13 it speaks of God stirring up the Medes to destroy Babylon and he used that flowery language as a warning. So, if you are inclined to take this kind of apocalyptic language physically, the burden of proof is on you. It was never used that way in the OT (and I can cite many more passages just like this), and that’s all they had at the time Jesus made these startling statements. Caiaphas knew full well what Jesus meant when He spoke of coming on the clouds. That’s why he ripped his robe in utter disgust. Only God rode on clouds of judgment. The Revelation made clear that “every eye would see Him, that is, those who pierced Him.” (Rev 1:7). “And all the TRIBES of the LAND (the Greek word GE which should have been translated land, not earth, since the 12 tribes of Israel are no more) will mourn.” And those who pierced Him mourned bitterly as their house was left to them desolate.
Listen, you may not like the implications of these things. We are called to believe even when things don’t fit our neat and tidy paradigm. If you begin to employ sound hermeneutical principles you will find yourself on much more solid ground…not sinking sand. The last thing I’ll address. You asked something like, “If prophecy is fulfilled, what’s left for us to do?” That alone shows your ignorance of the preterist view. We are called to disciple the nations and expand the Kingdom of God. The kingdom is not of flesh and blood but flesh and blood is greatly impacted by the unseen Kingdom of Christ. He is ruling and reigning as we speak. And, through the power of the Holy Spirit, the church will prevail over time. What began with Jesus and a band of 12 has now covered the globe. Christ’s Gospel will overcome the world. Yes, we have a long way to go and that’s the point. But if we don’t soon rid the church of dispensationalism which has recked the Church’s vision, our task will remain difficult. We are called to be overcomers not pessimillenialists. Godspeed.
I’m a full preterist and we have our lives to look forward to by spreading the Gospel and bringing more people into the New Jerusalem. We also don’t have to worry about the prophecies in Revelation because Jesus fulfilled it just like he said He would do. We’re not supposed to wait around to go to heaven when we die were to bring heaven to earth. Daniel was told to seal up the prophecy because it was far off but John was told to not seal up the prophecy because things were soon to take place. Revelation was to 7 literal churches in the first century and they don’t exist anymore so how can it be for us 2000 years later if John was told to keep the prophecy open. Jesus was seen coming in the clouds around 70AD. Flavius Josephus recorded the events throughly. It’s been fulfilled.
Matt 26:64 “Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” -Jesus coming in the clouds cannot be ignored. It is a figure of speech.
Just this year, I have delved into scripture after hearing about someone believing Jesus has already returned. My immediate reaction, was no way…I don’t believe that! But I felt convicted to read my Bible without all the “programming” we get from the preachers of our time. At the same time I was doing this, I started looking at the physical evidence in our world…guys…America is not as new as they tell us. The same old world buildings we see in Europe and Asia are here too….they are everywhere. Drive around your town…observe with your own eyes these beautiful buildings that we have been told were built in the 1800’s. Maybe these buildings are leftover from the millennial kingdom….just do some research and ask God to show you truth instead of just believing the programming….when you open your eyes….the truth is there. I think we are in the short season…..our pride doesn’t allow most of us to see this….satan has been released to deceive the nations to go up against God one last time.
Yes, agree. Jesus did not lie. He returned when he said he would, to the generation he spoke to. The Millennium then began and Satan was bound for 1000 years. We see evidence of the Millennium in the magnificent buildings, star forts, and canals that could not have been built in a horse and buggy era. The 1000 years are over and Satan has been loosened. We are now in that season. Satan messed with the timelines and erased history. Mudfloods destroyed much. We are part of the Great Awakening where lies are being unmasked and truths are being restored.

You are Right! They don't realize that they adding to the word of God when they're trying to explain when Jesus said this generation. And it's not supposed to be adding or taking away from the word of God.
Right, so serious question, where in Matthew 24 does Jesus jump from the events and signs that were to happen in the 1st, that the apostles where asking him about? Like which verses in Matthew 24 jumps from the signs that he warned his apostles about that was about to come in their generation, from what was to happen some 2000 years in the future or more? Matthew 24 and what? Because Matthew 24 was one continual context that Jesus told his 1st century apostles that were standing before him that they would be the generation to witness ALL of these things. I'd really like an answer on what verse in Matthew 24 spits from 1st century to 2000 or more years into the future? Thanks I'll wait.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
You seem to be assuming the disciples asked Jesus about the sign of His second coming. Why would they ask Him this when they had not yet understood He was leaving? You should learn what preterists believe rather than attacking a straw man.
The generation was the people who were born around the same time as Jesus. His Kingdom is not to come. It is here now. We are not to look for other signs and wonders nor are we to promote evil so as to hasten the end. The fact is that Jesus tabernacles among us. In our hearts and in our gatherings. Our job as Christians is to proclaim the Good News unto the nations so that the Kingdom - God's Kingdom - may increase.
Both preterists and futurist missunderstand Matthew 24:34. Jesus used the term "this generation" several times in Matthew and it was _never_ in reference to a timespan, or used to refer to all the people living in Israel at the same time. He used it to refer to the scribes and Pharasses, calling them a "wicked and adulterous generation", an "unbelieving and perverse generation" and so on. All one needs to do is turn back one page from Matthew 24 to see what Jesus meant by "this generation", and it wasn't a lifespan. Jesus was referring to the lineage, or "genealogy", of the scribes and Pharasees. The entire chapter of Matthew 23 is devoted to "this generation", speaking of what they are guilty of and what their outcome will be, and concluding that "all this will come on _this generation"._ Now allow me to show you something very interesting. In this chapter we see Jesus uttering seven "woes" specifically against the scribes and Parisees, and in the last and final woe he makes reference to their ancestory: "So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!" Clearly, Jesus indicates here that these religious people were not simply a group isolated in time, but rather members of a larger "generation" of people that have a history of murdering prophets. And notice what he says in verse 35-36: "And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Truly I tell you, all this will come on *this generation."* Here Jesus is speaking TO them, but referring to something that extends way beyond the limits of a lifespan! He says to them that THEY murdered Zechariah, despite the fact that Berekiah lived about 500 years before any of them were even born. How can "this generation" be a lifespan? It is a gereration that existed in the past, existed in Jesus time, and is still in existence. You will find them in Israel today still resisting the gospel.
So what Jesus was actually saying in Matthew 24:34 isn't that everything would be accomplished within a lifespan, but that the passing away of "this generation" was not going to occur until "all these things" have happened. This lines up with what we see in the book of Revelation. The very last thing to occur before the new heavens and the new earth appear is the second death - when the wicked and unbelieving will be destroyed.
@@skywalker7611 Thanks! I was actually reading a comment about this a few years ago where an atheist was claiming that Jesus had made a failed prophecy. I was about to give him the usual futurist response and tell him that Jesus was referring to a generation in the future, but I stopped because when I read the verse in question it actually did seem as if Jesus was referring to the generation in front of him, and that for him to be speaking about a generation some two thousand years later seemed awkard. I couldn't figure out a solution though, and instead of trying to do so myself I remembered the verse that says that if anyone lacks wisdom they should ask God. So I did, and then I lifted up my bible and read the verse once again, only this time the word "generation" was illuminated, and then I immediately understood. I have something more concerning the olivet discouse that I think you willl also find interesting. Let me know and I will post it when I have a little bit more time.

@@paulbrennan4163 Very interesting take. How would you explain the other verses that support a preterist timeline of Jesus returning like Matthew 16:28, 1 Thes. 4:15-16, or even Revelation 1:1-3?
@@AllInForYah Sure, and thanks for asking! I will deal with each of these scriptures separately because I think each is worth it's own discussion. 1) *Matthew 16:28:* It's easy to get the impression that this verse refers to Jesus' second coming. After all, what else could it possibly be referring to? Not only do we see in the preceeding verses that the context supports this, it says it right there in the text - they will "see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." So what's the problem? The problem is that Jesus was not refering to his second coming at all, but to the transfiguration, and I'm going to show you how this account corresponds perfectly with what Jesus said would happen. However, when I first heard this explanation I wasn't totallly convinced. I thought the arguments used were relatively good, but I also saw something lacking that troubled me. First let's look at the good arguments: 1. In each of the three accounts where this verse appears in the synoptic gospels we need to look at what preceeds this verse, and also what comes after it. In each of them we see a pattern: Before each of them Jesus discusses what will happen to ALL people when he returns, not just SOME of them, and.. 2. In each of them we see that is it immediately followed by the account of the transfiguration, which does seem to satisfy the things that Jesus said would happen - it involved some of them, and it happened before they died. But what concerned me was that none of these accounts said anything about Jesus coming. All the transfiguration accounts show us is that they was Jesus on a high mountain. Well, that was what I thought until I discovered a _fourth_ account of the transfiguration that it seems very few people notice. This account is given by Peter who was with Jesus on the mountain, and notice what he says: "For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you *about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power,* but we were *eyewitnesses of his majesty.* He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard *this voice that came from heaven **_when we were with him on the sacred mountain."_* (2 Peter 1:16-18) So what I think Jesus is saying in the "some standing here" verses is that yes, he will return in glory at the end of time, but that some of them would be witness to his glory even before they die.

Very good teaching, my brother. Keep in mind,' Brother, At the beginning of Matthew 24 It is clear that the disciples did not understand at all what Jesus was sharing with them. When they asked when shall the temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed? He did not give them a date or time frame. Jesus made it very clear to them that the most important thing was to make sure they were not deceived. In other words, the time of Jerusalem as the city and kingdom of God will come to its end and the destruction of the temple. He was warning them not to be deceived concerning the end of temple worship in Jerusalem and the end of the world. When Jesus said to them, this generation shall not pass until all these things be fulfilled. He was referring to their understanding of all these things that should be fulfilled. Remember in the book of acts after his his resurrection? They asked the question. Will you at this time restore the kingdom to israel? That itself proves they did not understand what he was saying about the temple being destroyed in Matthew 24. Again, he did not give them a date. in Acts 2. Instead he told He told them they would receive power to be witnesses of him all over the world. When they received that power on Pentecost, scripture clearly tells us that was the beginning of the end. And unto this day We are living in the last days that begin at pentecost. And beginning at pentecost There generation did not pass until they clearly understood all he was saying. It was their understanding of all these things that they would see in their generation. They clearly lived until the beginning of the end. 70 AD was not the beginning of the prophecy given to the disciples from Jesus in Matthew 24. Pentecost was the beginning of it. Pentecost was the sign of the end of Jerusalem as the kingdom of God. NOT 70 AD
Something to think about: I believe in Matthew 24: 36 , that Jesus was talking about verse 35 , when the Lord returns and destroys everything with fire. I believe that the rapture happens 7 years before . Could the rapture happen simultaneously at that time? I've also thought about how Shad-Rak, Me-Shak and Abednigo all survived the firey furnace, so therefore it's a possibility that God could destroy the world and the heavens with fire and the believers meet the Lord in the air and not be touched by the firey destruction. What are your thoughts on this David?
Billy, David means well but he is misguided. Heaven and earth is not going to pass away, and they never was. Heaven and earth is a metaphor for the old covenant. Jesus came in that time in history for a very specific reason. God sent Him to deal with the lost sheep of Israel for the last time. When we read "Think not that I came to destroy the law and the prophets: I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill." (Matt 5:17-18) You have a responsibility, to study for yourself. Matthew 23 will tell you exactly why He came. Matthew 24 will tell you what the apostles will be up against, and what to look for, and He promised to return for a second time "apart from sin for salvation" in their generation. Jesus came when He said He would. Now we are under a new covenant, a new heaven and a new earth. • “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men.” (Revelation 21:3)
For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine. Isa. 13:9,10
Also, Matthew 12:39: "But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas." Surely he wasn't talking about EVERY PERSON. (And he also was a member of that generation, and lives forever!)
In Biblical times when it says do not kill means exact same thing today. The word "generation" also means the exact same thing today. Having pointed that out, if we go Google it, it will tell us clearly that generation means people who living about the same time. And Jesus said THIS GENERATION not future generation
Not actually true. The original Greek work that got translated to generation. Can mean generation in the sense we are speaking of, but it can also mean race, decent , or even an indeterminate amount of time when accompanied with the right things in a sentence. So no. It does not automatically mean generation in the sense you are referring to
i feel like the Lord is saying he doesnt know and he does know at the same time. as in the body he doesnt know but out of the body the Father knows? and in the body we dont know. but the Father will tell us what season it is

Wow, what a show of pride and ego. The Scriptures were written to him, not the Jews in the 1st century that were living during the time of the end of Mosaic law as it was fading and the New law, with better covenants was being put into place! That was the second coming of Hebrews 9: 25-28!
Every book in the Bible that covers the Olivet discourse its all about God's judgment against Jerusalem and in Revelation his judgment against the Roman Empire for persecuting the Jew and Gentile Christians in Asia Minor but in Jerusalem Jesus did return between 66ad and 70Ad in his Parousia where every eye shall see him. Jesus told the Pharisees that they will not be able to escape damnation because they were charged with the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias and all the innocent blood within the Earth and that it would happen in their generation Jesus said Oh generation of vipers. He was referring to the generation in which he was speaking to at that particular time God had to destroy the Temple because the Jews were still sacrificing animals for the cleansing of sin which is blasphemy and The 5 Jewish Sects that conspired to have Jesus crucified had taken over the Temple of God mainly the Zealots but all of those Religious Vipers were Antichrist because they did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God their Messiah so God's judgment was imminent just as the scriptures says in Luke that these are the days of vengeance. I know that in the book of Matthew it sounds like the rapture of the Saints when it says he shall gather his elect from the four winds of heaven from one end of heaven to the other but let me make this clear this is not referring to the rapture of the Saints. We first have to understand what the four winds of heaven is : And the four winds of heaven is spiritual agents of God prepared for war just as the valley of dry bones God told Ezekiel to prophecy to the four winds of heaven that the dead bodies will receive breath and when Ezekiel prophesied to the four winds of heaven the dead bodies received breath. The four winds are the spirits that stands before the Lord of the Earth so in the Antiquities of Flavius Josephus he wrote that there were Armies of Chariots in the sky and the Roman Historian Tacitus wrote that there were Armies of Chariots in the sky pouring down fire onto the Temple. So this is evidence that Jesus came in his Parousia where every eye shall see him. Revelation 1:7 Says that every eye will see him even those that pierced him will see him so those that pierced him had to be judged by Jesus Christ himself during that time and they wailed because of him Jesus told Caiaphas that he will see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and Caiaphas was so Antichrist in his spirit until he tore his robe believing that Jesus was a blasphemer And it all occurred in 70Ad in those Antichrist generation who had their hands full of innocent blood. So by Jesus saying it and it's in the Bible then we have to believe it. But in Matthew 24 Jesus also made it clear when he does finally return to receive his church he said that it will be like the days of Noah when they were eating and drinking and marrying and giving in marriage until the flood came and took them away one will be taken the other left. So when he returns for the church when we are caught up to meet the Lord in the air it will be a time of peace a regular day business as usual. Not an Ezekiel 38-39 war which has already been fulfilled And when Jesus said in Luke your redemption draws nigh it means that the time is coming when he had to separate the wheat from the tears in Jerusalem he told those that followed him and his disciples to run to the Mountains he said that because during that particular time his feet did stand on the Mount of Olives to make a way if escape but most of the Christian Jews had already migrated to a place called Pella. Amen 🙏!
Many end time sites remove preterists. Why? Because Chuck Missler clearly taught only Luke 21 12-23 occurred about 2000 years ago. That occurred during the generation that saw the 2nd temple. Some parts of Luke 21 are in the future. Luke 21 24-28 with the ending of the times of the gentiles with the city of Jerusalem and the 2nd coming is future. The main reason preterists are removed is because the times of the gentiles will end 42 months from an event at the future 3rd temple in Jerusalem with Rev 11 2. It will be at a time 2 prophets will appear in Jerusalem as given in Revelation chapter 11. When preterists give their nonsense with Revelation chapter 11, they are instantly removed. Has anyone read the nonsense preterists present with the ending of the times of the gentiles? It is really shameful how preterists treat the Word of God.
Mt 24 has duel fulfillment. Initially fulfilled in 70AD for the Jewish system and a secondary fulfillment when Jesus returns with glory and great power.
The Greek word translated as generation in the Olivet Discourse is "genea" and if you look it up in Greek concordance, it can also mean race, as in the Jewish RACE.
Also my beef with preterism is that if it is true then it makes me distrust God- as if this is his fulfillment, his best and this is his new Jerusalem and these are the things which are promised, then it’s crap. Makes me not want to go to heaven either as it will be crap there too. His promises sound big and lovely but in actuality they are mundane and rubbish
Some believe it has a duel fulfillment. Initially fulfilled in 70AD for the Jewish system and a secondary fulfillment when Jesus returns with glory and great power.
It's all "crap" to you because you're a mighty selfish human being who insists that the Bible must be all about you. Try and be satisfied with the promise of eternal life.
Mat 26 63 The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” 64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[a] Are you telling us Jesus declared to the high priest is also hyberbole? Or He lied and He will come thousand years later? Rev 1 1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. The text can not be any more clear than what it says. Why do people twist the word of God so it will fit their imagination?
Jesus will NOT rule in earthly Jerusalem upon an earthly man-made throne! I'm not a preterist but Jesus WAS talking about HIS GENERATION when he was explaining to his disciples about the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple and NOT 2000 + years in the future. Also the CONSUMMATION of Daniel's 70th Week Prophecy was fulfilled in 70ad as well! Read the historical writings of Josephus and PLEASE learn Jewish history so you will know about the Prophecies that has ALREADY been fulfilled - as in the return of the Jews from Babylon have been twisted to make it appear they were fulfilled in 70 ad and Gog and Magog is not Russia lol but happened 200+ years before Jesus was born! Also, dry bones is about being born again- so please not all scripture is literal. In 1st chapter Jesus TOLD JOHN TO WRITE THE THINGS HE SEES TO SIGNIFY TO THE CHURCHES - SIGNIFY - PLZ UNDERSTAND WHAT THE WORD MEANS - Gog and Magog - the four corners of the earth is the wicked gvmts all around our world - the world is full of wicked gvmts. That Jerusalem you speak of being trodden down was about the Roman Soldiers who destroyed the place - you're a silly Futurist who likes SENSATIONALISM and likes teaches SENSATIONALISM INSTEAD OF TRUTH! And no I'm not a partial preterist - I just believe what the Word says- and there is no bigger deception than the Pretribulation Rapture Dispensationalism LIES - that began with two Jesuit Priests who to take the focus off the Papacy that all knew was the Antichrist - and twisted Scripture to make it say by THEIR interpretation WAY OUT INTO THE FUTURE. JESUS CURSED THE FIG TREE AND SAID IT WOULD NEVER BEAR FRUIT AGAIN - JEWS AND 1948 IS NOT A SIGN OF ANYTHING BUT A HOAX
Perhaps you should talk to some full preterists to find out what they are looking forward to. And it could very will be the case that what you are looking forward to will never happen. That you are interpreting Scripture just like those who rejected Jesus interpreted Scripture. After all, they too looked for an earthy, carnal kingdom with the Messiah ruling from a literal throne from teh literal city of Jerusalem in the literal land of Canaan. But that's not what Jesus or the apostles taught.
I do not how some say it is about 70AD? It says the Son of man cometh....he did not come in 70 AD. It correlates with Mark 13...and it is expressly says tribulation....and it mentions again the fig tree....so it is clearly tribulation. And one is taken and one left behind. It is what is is.
The fake Israel in the Mid East hates Jesus. Read Deuteronomy 28:45 & 46. ““All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you. They shall be a sign and a wonder against you and your offspring forever.” Duet 28:45,46 If individual Jews repent they can and will be grafted back into the true vine. Luke 21:21,22………fullfill All that is written. That means all of Daniel nine was fulfilled. No gap. No antichrist in Daniel 9.
Generation not as a group like zoomers, boomers ..But the end of the Biblical Era 2000 years..Which will be 6000 years since the creation..Then the 2nd coming and Half generation or era is 1000 years. Jesus will be with us in the New Jerusalem Are King.
Jesus raising the parable of the fig tree is curious. What is the fig tree? Surely Israel. In which case, his return might occur no later than the point at which the last person alive in mid-May 1948 dies, and certainly no later than 2068. But Luke adds 'all the trees'(?) which might render the meaning even more self-explanatory. Either way, 'this generation' is the one that will witness the things Jesus has just prophesied. Love to all x
You'd be making a leap if you attributed that assumption to me on the basis of my comment. I twice suggested what the text 'might' mean. Worth noting that 'all the trees' taken in context probably refers to those in the vicinity of the speaker/listeners rather than every single one in existence.@@colingr318
I watched the video expecting to hear the futurist view and interpretation of the passage, but all you said on that regard is that you are willing to interpret the passage figuratively in order to preserve the literal interpretation of other passages, even though in your own wods that interpretation is problematic. You could at least have gone into more detail about how one could interpret that passage figuratively and possible arguments that support that view. As it is, this possition seems more dismissive than anything.
Hmmm. According to my koine Greek lexicon (and in classical Greek) "race/stock/family" is the PRIMARY meaning of the Greek word "genea", but claims it is never used for that in the New Testament. But when it is translated "generation" it can mean a metaphor of people of alike character or all the people of a given period. Thus you could say that the generation that annoyed God in the 40 years they were wandering in the desert did not pass away - this generation of people are still around annoying him to this day! When it and the equivalent Hebrew word "DWR" refer to lifetimes of people it is defined as the time from a man's birth to the birth of his first son. Eg Matthew 1:17. When it is used in this way it MUST REFER TO SPECIFIC PEOPLE: This man had a son, then his son had a son, two generations. So to say it MUST mean all the people around at the time must be still alive is not so. It might not. Yet in addition God is the God of miracles. Perhaps there ARE people who do not die but continue ministering upon the Earth, although only a few might understand why this is a possibility to be considered...
God and Jesus are not the same person. God is greater than Jesus Christ because God came before Jesus Christ. No one existed before God. God caused all things to come into existence.
Hi David,
I’m surprised you addressed the subject of “this generation” without looking at how that phrase is used in every other instance in the Gospels. Seems like that would be important right? In every other instance that the phrase is used, it’s used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to.
“But to what shall I liken THIS GENERATION? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,” (Matt 11:16)
"The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.” (Matt 12:41)
"The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.” (Matt 12:42)
"Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with THIS WICKED GENERATION.” (Matt 12:45)
"But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does THIS GENERATION seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.” (Mark 8:12)
"For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in THIS adulterous and sinful GENERATION, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” ( Mark 8:38)
AND THEN:
"Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon THIS GENERATION.” (Matt 23:36
"Assuredly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” (Matt 24:36)
Notice that every time THIS GENERATION is used it used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to.
"Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (Matt 16:28)
You also said that Preterist have nothing to look forward to if Jesus has already come.
It’s also odd that people would be looking for a visible kingdom that people can point to and say, “see there it is”… or “there it is in Jerusalem”….. especially when Jesus specifically said:
"Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;” Luke 17:20
"Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.” (John 4:21)

There wasn't even an attempt to do a syntactical study on the phrase "This generation." He didn't look at any of the other times Matthew used that phrase.
@@rickhuntling7338,

"He used 'generation' face-to-face chastening the offenders, not in a prophecy."
How is, "All these things will come upon *this generation*" not a prophecy?
Verses 4-35 are about the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and answer the disciples' question, "When will these things be?" Matthew 24:36-25:46 are about the second coming and final judgment and answer the disciples' question, "What will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age."
"You tell me what the parable is."
I just did. It's your turn.
"When was the abomination seen?"
When General Titus was worshiped by his soldiers on the Temple Mount, went into the temple, challenged Yahweh to a fight, slashed the curtain with his sword, slept with a prostitute on a scroll of the Law in the Holy of Holies, and took all the treasures of the temple back to Rome.

John the Revelator saw in vision the LORD King of kings coming in the clouds. He might of even been cast into the future to see the real second coming then returned to his days to write what he witnessed.

Excellent points!
His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”*
Mark 9 : 1 - 3 "And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.
*After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.”*
Luke 9 : 27 - 29 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.
*About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.”*
These few disciples saw the kingdom of God and they saw it come with power.
Yes!
In Matthew 12 : 28 Jesus told the Pharisees, "But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, *then the kingdom of God has come upon you."*
In the New Testament we find a principle called "The Already and The Not Yet" in effect.
Jesus even predicted he would come before his generation disappeared : *"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."* Matthew 24 : 34
"all these things" included the coming of Jesus and the gospel being preached to the whole world. Did this happen?
Colossians 1 : 6 "...In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world..."
Romans 1 : 8 "First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world."
Romans 10 : 17 - 18 "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
Colossians 1 : 23 "...This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant."
By the way the Bible understands the whole world as the Roman empire - see Luke 2 : 1
=======================
So can we say someone who was standing with Jesus remained alive to see the coming of the Son of Man in God's kingdom in power when Jesus came to Jerusalem in 70 AD? Yes, John the apostle lived long enough to see it. He even told Christians in the first century they were living in the LAST HOUR.
"Dear children, *this is the last hour;* and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. *This is how we know it is the last hour."* 1 John 2 : 18
Jesus even told Peter concerning John, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” John 21 : 22

@Thelordismhstrength The beautiful thing is how Daniel and other prophets align with Christ's Words in the Gospels that align with Paul's epistles and finally Revelation. 19 For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved.

1Thess 5:2&4
"For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief."
Notice that Paul says that those in the first century were not in darkness, because they were in the light, and that day should not overtake them.
If they were in darkness, then that day would easily overtake them. Which, means that THAT DAY had to occur in their own lifetime while they were still alive!

@@PreachingJesus
When the texts speak of "coming again", the context was at the end of Jesus' generation.

Amen?
My comment to David and why "this generation" was the one he was speaking too:
"I’m surprised you addressed the subject of “this generation” without looking at how that phrase is used in every other instance in the Gospels. Seems like that would be important right? In every other instance that the phrase is used, it’s used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to.
“But to what shall I liken THIS GENERATION? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,” (Matt 11:16 )
"The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.” (Matt 12:41 )
"The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.” (Matt 12:42 )
"Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with THIS WICKED GENERATION.” (Matt 12:45 )
"Assuredly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” (Matt 24:36 )
Notice that every time THIS GENERATION is used it used to speak of the generation that Jesus is speaking to.
"Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (Matt 16:28 )
You also said that Preterist have nothing to look forward to if Jesus has already come.
It’s also odd that people would be looking for a visible kingdom that people can point to and say, “see there it is”… or “there it is in Jerusalem”….. especially when Jesus specifically said:
"Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;” Luke 17:20
"Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.” (John 4:21)"
That does make sense.

Brock Hollet former preterist does a good job explaining "this generation" doesn't always refer to in the scriptures as the immediate generation.
Every instance in Matthew, it does refer to the generation that Jesus is speaking to.
He will actually have to murder 100's of verses in order to refute Preterism.

He didn’t say “things which might take place.” He emphatically stated, “thing which MUST take place shortly.”
The closer the NT authors were to the end of the last days of the old covenant age, the more imminent the language became.
That’s why the Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians to remain as they were because the “time is short.”
When the Apostle John was told, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near", He meant it.
Matt 26:64 “Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”
-Jesus coming in the clouds cannot be ignored. It is a figure of speech.
The problem is that EVERYBODY WAS WAITING FOR JESUS COMING DURING THEIR LIFE TIME....
Wow, you're kidding right?
I want to know more n clearly about ... Generation in luke 21:32.. thank you so much Servant of the Lord... God bless you n use you more abundantly for His glory... Amen
You dont even come close to understanding or explaining what Preterism is. No, they dont mangle scripture. You're doing that. You're literally calling Jesus a liar. Whoa unto you.
Bless you brother.
James chapter 3 speaks to you as to all those who claim to be called to preach. Give heed.
are you not "mangling" the text to make it fit your interpretation of Scripture? Do you teach the Darby/ Scofield 'rapture' of the church?
You are Right! They don't realize that they adding to the word of God when they're trying to explain when Jesus said this generation. And it's not supposed to be adding or taking away from the word of God.
What's the speaker's real name? Anyone know?
Why do you get to squirm away from facts by calling verses “figurative”
GOD says all thing are simple . GOD BLESS
I am a full preterist andi don't look for future hope Jesus said what he will do and he did it.soblets get serious you are telling me you know the mind of GOD? How do you know what Jesus meant you are you? He said what he meant and it happened so how do you know what Jesus really meant.
In this chapter we see Jesus uttering seven "woes" specifically against the scribes and Parisees, and in the last and final woe he makes reference to their ancestory:
"So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!"
Clearly, Jesus indicates here that these religious people were not simply a group isolated in time, but rather members of a larger "generation" of people that have a history of murdering prophets. And notice what he says in verse 35-36:
"And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Truly I tell you, all this will come on *this generation."*
Here Jesus is speaking TO them, but referring to something that extends way beyond the limits of a lifespan!
That is a very interesting way to look at it and I'm going to research your understanding... Thank you.. It's all about Gene's...
@@paulbrennan4163 That's truly Awesome... I have been looking for an understanding that made sense to me and couldn't find one until I came across your comment... I feel so blessed to have found it because it lines up with the rest of the text and my belief that the whole Bible is about genetics... From the Fallen Angels who had sex with the women of man causing God to wipe them out with the flood, to our current time where the vaccines are creating part man, part machine hybrids who will be wiped out by fire... I am very interested in what else you have concerning the Olivet Discourse... Thank you and may God's blessings be with you continuously...
1) *Matthew 16:28:*
It's easy to get the impression that this verse refers to Jesus' second coming.
First let's look at the good arguments:
This account is given by Peter who was with Jesus on the mountain, and notice what he says:
"For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you *about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power,* but we were *eyewitnesses of his majesty.* He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard *this voice that came from heaven **_when we were with him on the sacred mountain."_* (2 Peter 1:16-18)
So what I think Jesus is saying in the "some standing here" verses is that yes, he will return in glory at the end of time, but that some of them would be witness to his glory even before they die.
Revelation 22:5-10 CSB
The Time Is Near [6] Then he said to me, "These words are faithful and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place." Looks like John was told to bracket the letter to those of that generation as the time was upon them that they would see His return!

When we read "Think not that I came to destroy the law and the prophets: I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill." (Matt 5:17-18)
You have a responsibility, to study for yourself.

He meant what he said. The generation that was alive at the time of his ministry. Why do Christians not believe Jesus words?

@@BertGraef the generation that started 2000 years ago. We're closing in on the end. When Trump confirms his peace plan with many, the 7 weeks of Daniel, which is 7 years will begin. I personally believe we will see it confirmed by no later than late 2028.
And didn't Jesus come back in to give the revelation to John? Its that the same generation?
Revelation 1:7
Says that every eye will see him even those that pierced him will see him so those that pierced him had to be judged by Jesus Christ himself during that time and they wailed because of him
Jesus told Caiaphas that he will see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and Caiaphas was so Antichrist in his spirit until he tore his robe believing that Jesus was a blasphemer
And it all occurred in 70Ad in those Antichrist generation who had their hands full of innocent blood.
Not an Ezekiel 38-39 war which has already been fulfilled
And when Jesus said in Luke your redemption draws nigh it means that the time is coming when he had to separate the wheat from the tears in Jerusalem he told those that followed him and his disciples to run to the Mountains he said that because during that particular time his feet did stand on the Mount of Olives to make a way if escape but most of the Christian Jews had already migrated to a place called Pella.
Amen 🙏!
This is the worst example of explaining your position. And slapping your hands is enough to turn anyone off.
They would be alive when it was fulfilled ,I preached for church of Christ The Bible says if you love me keep my Word,John 14:23
It is rather shameful how poorly learned you are, and so have to make up presumptuous doctrines in order to make your fantasies work.
They rebuilded another Jerusalem in It's place in another location.
Mt 24 has duel fulfillment.
Initially fulfilled in 70AD for the Jewish system and a secondary fulfillment when Jesus returns with glory and great power.
nonsense
@@BertGraef
Nonsense.
Why not a triple or quadruple fulfillment
Jesus Christ never promised his disciples a new physical kingdom. Where are you getting your information from?
The Greek word translated as generation in the Olivet Discourse is "genea" and if you look it up in Greek concordance, it can also mean race, as in the Jewish RACE.
No offense, but this is one of the worst explanations of the olivet discourse I've come across. No help whatsoever.
@@jaysonb.6669 that’s right
It's all "crap" to you because you're a mighty selfish human being who insists that the Bible must be all about you. Try and be satisfied with the promise of eternal life.
Mat 26
63 The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[a]
Are you telling us Jesus declared to the high priest is also hyberbole? Or He lied and He will come thousand years later?
Rev 1
1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place.
The text can not be any more clear than what it says. Why do people twist the word of God so it will fit their imagination?
Jesus already returned
Jesus => was NOT talking to the BOC!
It is what is is.
how about we not murder even ONE of the Scriptures David???
The fake Israel in the Mid East hates Jesus. Read Deuteronomy 28:45 & 46. ““All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you. They shall be a sign and a wonder against you and your offspring forever.” Duet 28:45,46
If individual Jews repent they can and will be grafted back into the true vine.
Super helpful 👌 👍 👏 😊
On youtube, there is a fascinating video titled "The Fig Tree Prophecy (animated)". Exciting stuff!
He said this generation not that generation.
"All the trees" means that all nations were only established in 1948, if we follow your reasoning.
Doesn't work does it?
Generation of Christians. Even humanity.
😂 “ Have you read any of the Bible” exactly.. The hardest folks to preach to is partial believers.
