The end of the age Jesus was speaking of was the age of the Jews under the old covenant. That age ended around 70 AD. No more temple, no more sacrifice, no more old covenant.
That’s absolutely not what that verse says. You left part of it out: 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that *_one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day_* This essentially means that God is in a realm outside of time.

He also oppressed the Jews in and around Jerusalem for 42 months. More than a million Jews were slaughtered and many thrown into Gehenna to have their corpses burned and eaten by worms. Plus this happened within 40 years of Jesus being alive. I think one significant thing that would suggest that this would not be happening again, is that almost all of those things related directly to the Jews and not Gentiles. In our world today the followers of Jesus Christ are made up primarily of non Jewish people. Also there is no temple in Jerusalem and no temple in heaven, which was referred to in the Revelation. We, the ekklesia, body of Christ, are now the temple of God.

The fig tree is a symbol of Israel in the Bible. It put forth its young leaves on May 14, 1948. The other things Jesus mentioned in this "generation" discourse, have been escalating faster and faster since Israel became a nation again (1948) I interpret this to to mean the generation that sees Israel back on it's land will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled. Observing what our world is going through in this present time it's not much of a stretch to deduce the time of the rapture, and His return is near. I'm not dogmatic about this interpretation, it is just how I see it. All I know for sure is Jesus IS coming. And I can hardly wait to be with Him forever. MARANATHA !!!
This is the Amir Tsarfati interpretation which I think for the most part is feasible, however, I would not be dogmatic given that this means a generation being 70-80 years of life would put the Rapture at about 4 years from now. When does the timeline for a generation actually begin? At 1948? or those born after 1948? Or once the prophetic signs begin to unfold? I think perhaps the latter, though I wouldn't be dogmatic on this either. That being said, definitely many of the prophetic signs that Christ mentioned in the Olivet Discourse have already begun to take shape, so it's clear we are in the season. But, of course, no man (Christ included) knows the day or the hour.

My heart, spirit and mind tells me we are so close to the Rapture that I try to always remind people to Repent, TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. Rejecting God, his Son and the word of God does not mean you pick the consequences of it. Simply surrender and get saved. You will be forever grateful, you did.
The Rapture is not really Biblical. It is never specifically mentioned in scripture. It was an idea created and propogated by a man who was a theologian in the 1800s. The written scripture only states that Jesus will return to raise everyone up like He was risen. "And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” -John 6:39-40

I understood that the generational clock started ticking when Israel became a nation. A generation can be interpreted in more than one way. I believe it refers to the Bible saying a man's life is 70 years, and 80 by strength. My mother were born the year before Israel became a nation. My dad the same year when Israel became a nation. Both still doing well, but we closing in on the 80 years. 🎉
I agree that the generational clock started ticking in 1948 (when Israel came back as a nation). The bible does not specify the lifespan of a generation. But I believe it is safe to assume that whoever was born in 1948 will still be alive when the end time comes (the tribulation that will last for 7 years after the antichrist signs a peace treaty with Israel). By observing what is going on around the world, I believe the age of the Gentile is about to end; meaning God will start to focus on bringing His chosen people, Israel, back to Him. Likely the ongoing war has something to do with this God's plan? I also believe in 7000 years of human history, and we are approaching 6000 years. Human history will conclude with 1000 years of Christ's Millennial Kingdom. Just as God rested on the 7th day of the creation, humans will live with genuine peace, rest, and prosperity under the rule of Jesus Christ, Our King and the only Savior. Only God knows when. I believe the next major prophetic event will be the rapture of the church and follow closely by the introduction of the antichrist on the world stage. We are truly living in an exciting times. So hang on tightly with our Savior, Jesus Christ, brothers and sisters.
I think in context, Jesus was speaking of His generation and the things He mentioned did happen and culminated around AD 70. Also note that in the Revelation account, which is figurative, not literal, the tribulation, beast, etc. took place when there was a temple in Jerusalem AND a temple in heaven. There is no longer a temple in Jerusalem and there is no longer a temple in heaven. We are the temple of the living God. Everything changed at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the picture in the last chapters of the Revelation, notice that there is no temple in the city where God dwells. In my opinion this new heaven and new earth became a reality at the resurrection of Christ. All things were made new, old things have passed away. 2 Cor 5.

That first century chosen generation (whom Peter was writing to) of Israel, rejected it. They rejected all of it. They rejected their Messiah and their kingdom. So, it didn't come. Their 70th week never came because they fell in unbelief and diminished (Romans 11:11-12) and salvation (was of the Jews) has come to the Gentiles. Paul was given a Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles (Ephesians 3:1-2), which is what happened instead of Israel's 70th week. Today, during this Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles, Israel is still blinded as to who their Messiah is. But we see in Revelation 7, that they will begin their 80th week and they will rise and shine as a light unto the Gentiles during a time of darkness (Israel's 70th week, Tribulation, Jacob's trouble). Isaiah 60:1-3. And the Great Multitude is the result of the 144,000 Jews preaching Israel's Gospel of the Kingdom in all the world before the end (2nd half of Israel's 70th week) comes. Matthew 24:14

I think it is clear from the entire context of these chapters that Jesus was answering questions that were just asked of Him. There is evidence that the things Jesus spoke about the desecration of the temple, rise of antichrist, tribulation, destruction of the temple and Jerusalem, and the end of the age, all occurred and culminated around 70 AD. That was the end of the Jewish age, the age of Judaism and old covenant. So, it seems clear that Jesus was speaking to people, many of whom would be alive to see and experience the things He spoke. Also note that Jesus was not speaking to the world in general, but to Jews in particular. The things He spoke pertained to the nation of Israel and their current system of covenant and worship of God that was soon coming to an end and in fact did come to an end in AD 70.

When Jesus said "This generation", He was reffering to the generation that will witness the things He prophesied about, not the generation during His time on earth. Its like saying "There will be people that will witness this event. These people will not die before seeing it."

He's talking about the generation from 30ad to 70ad. That 40yrs was the early church establishing the kingdom of God in the Earth. And at the end in 70ad Jesus came back the 2nd time to take his people to heaven so that the kingdom of God would be in both places.

I've heard people make the case that Jesus did, indeed, return. And that we are currently in the "little season", and it has been hidden from us. To add to that - the Hebrew language has a tense not present in English - it was called the "prophetic" tense. It is used by prophets often and indicated by conjugations in the verbs, etc. The passage in question was written in the prophetic tense confirming that the events that are translated as present in English are in prophetic tense originally - which is a way of talking about the future as if it were the present.

But, if one looks up in a concordance the expression "this generation", 100% of them refer to the generation actually alive at the time. Grammatically speaking, why would Mat 24 mean a future one, thus confusing readers of bible prophecies?

It is clear from the entire context of these chapters that Jesus was answering questions that were just asked of Him. There is evidence that the things Jesus spoke about the desecration of the temple, rise of antichrist, tribulation, destruction of the temple and Jerusalem, and the end of the age, all occurred and culminated around 70 AD. That was the end of the Jewish age, the age of Judaism and old covenant. So, it seems clear that Jesus was speaking to people, many of whom would be alive to see and experience the things He spoke. Also note that Jesus was not speaking to the world in general, but to Jews in particular. The things He spoke pertained to the nation of Israel and their current system of covenant and worship of God that was soon coming to an end and in fact did come to an end in AD 70.

That is an interesting interpretation. What is also interesting is in Revelation, which was in part an epistle and written to literal churches in existence at the time of the writing, starts off in the beginning of chapter 1 as saying “to show his servants the things which must soon take place”. I’m bringing that up because any reader at the time would think “soon” means “soon” not “a day with the Lord is as a thousand years” or whatever allegorical meaning it could have. It would seem that both many parts of Revelation along with the prophecy in Matt 24 were literally taking place within the generation after Jesus or the generation around Jesus’s time. You really have to lay another framework on all those verses to get them to mean sometime out in the future (like thousands of years as many teach).
Where we miss it: We think verse 3 of Matthew 24 is one big question to which Jesus gives one big answer. If we do get that verse 3 is actually three questions that get answered one by one, then we expect the answers to come in the same order. Dr. Michael Brown's explanation, the best I could piece it together through recall: Matthew 24:3 is three questions, that get answered by Jesus in reverse order, chiastic style. When will this happen? (every stone of the Temple thrown down, as commented in 24:1-2) What will be the sign of your coming? What will be the sign of the end of the age? 24:4-24:22 Jesus answers what the sign/s will be of the end of the age. Signs are given rather than times. 24:23-24:33 What things they will see (signs) when the Son of Man comes. In the question they asked Jesus the sign of his coming, so when Jesus answers about the Son of Man's coming, he is answering about himself. This is one way we know that when Jesus said "the Son of Man" he was referring to himself. 24:34-24:35 Jesus answers about the timing. Here he is answering the first question - the "when" question, which was about when will the stones of the Temple be thrown down. Three Q's and 3 A's. (3 questions and 3 answers) Q1-Q2-Q3-A3-A2-A1.

This generation meant that one. Fulfilled in 70 A.D.. Don't confuse the End of Days with the End of Judah, The Temple. and the End of Jerusalem, which happened in 70 A.D.
Notably, the verse immediately following the one in question reads: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." It could be argued that Jesus was not talking about the near future and soon-to-be witnessed events. Maybe He was referring to the post-flood generation. He did mention the times of Noah several times in the preceding and subsequent verses.
Christ used the word "generation" 23 times apart from the Olivet prophecy. Look them up in a concordance. You'll see that every one of them pertains to the generation He was talking to in His day. Quotes like "first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation", "an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah", "the men of Nineveh will rise in the judgement with this generation", "the queen of the south will rise in the judgement with this generation", "o faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?", "all the righteous blood shed on the earth.... will come upon this generation" etc etc. Yes, He also mentions His return as a concluding event, but the bulk of the Olivet prophecy is about AD70, and it is to this event that "all these things" pertain.

Unless Jesus meant the end of the Jewish age. Then everything he talked about anti-christ--Nero desolation of the Holy Place--Roman soldiers seizing control of the Temple and It's destruction, etc. has happened If Jesus meant a future generation He would said that. Jesus answered their questions...The temple was destroyed ,the people of that time went through extreme hardships (mothers even ate their own babies.Sun moon stars is the same language used to describe the destruction of Babylon Is 13 :9-11.The only thing left that does not seem to fit is He has not returned yet.
All those events did take place within that generation. Heaven and earth ( Old Covenant Israel ) did pass away and we are now in the eternal New Covenant.
In Luke version, it cannot be future. It specifically says they ( Jews) will be lead into captivity. So when Jesus returns in future the Jews are lead into captivity? NO. He is speaking of 70 A.D. and that’s exactly what happened.
This is a perfect example of begging the question. His conclusion that "this generation" does not refer to the present generation but a future one is predicated on his conclusion that the things in Matthew 24 did not take place. His conclusion has effected his interpretation of the text. Aka eisegesis. "Did not happen in the lifespan of people alive in Jesus Day. Obviously." Based on his eschatology, he then interprets "this generation" as that future generation. A more honest way to handle this text is: A)get your eschatology right and realize "this generation" meat exactly that. B) the way people like C.S. Lewis did. Understand and acknowledge that the people who heard him say that, fully expected it to happen in their lifetime. EVEN THOUGH you personally do not believe the events in Matthew 24 have occurred yet.

Ok so, when Jesus was talking to Peter and company about the Temple they just came from in Matthew 24, Jesus somewhere stopped and said “Hold that thought, y’all. I have to send a quick message to Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye and Ed Young in the future to tell a generation 2000 years from now that the world is going to blow up in their faces.” It doesn’t work. “THIS Generation” mean’t the one living at the time the scripture was written in Jesus’ time and involving the people he was talking to. The cult of Dispensationalism needs to go away.

The context of Matt 24 begins in Matt 23. Through chapter 23, Jesus is excoriating the Sanhedrin for their poor leadership, not keeping the covenant and for keeping the children of God from worshiping him. Jesus then predicts the destruction of the Temple. Later, when on the Mount of Olives, the Disciples ask Christ in privacy "when will these things be." Christ's answer is that these events will take place during their generation. Furthermore, the "celestial signs" of Matt 24 is an OT imagery that always denoted the destruction of a specific enemy of God. Putting that back in context of Matt 23 and Matt 24, it becomes clear that Jesus is talking about the destruction of the Sanhedrin and the Temple age, and thus bringing about the full commencement of the Church Age. That truth becomes all the more evident when you put Christ's prophetic words into the smaller context of Jesus answering a specific question to his Disciples in privacy that the only sensible answer is that Christ is telling THEM what signs THEY need to be on the watch for so THEY can take appropriate action. Further cementing the veracity with which the Disciples took this prophecy to mean the specific events of 70 AD is that that era's historians noted that no Christians remained in Jerusalem when the Roman armies destroyed the city. Clearly, the Disciples shared the prophecy and God's people heeded the words to the point of being out of the city before it was destroyed.
I respectfully disagree with your entire explanation. Jesus was speaking directly to his present audience as they were the “this generation”. This is further shown by reading Matt. 16:27-28 where Jesus tells those disciples present with him that “they would not taste death before they would see the Son of Man returning to set up his kingdom”. What happened ??? The only explanation is that God the Father decided to interrupt the Kingdom Gospel with the gospel of the Grace of God. This dispensation of Grace is now forming The Church, the body of Christ and has gone on now, for nearly 2000 years. This is all explained in the opening chapters of Ephesians, and especially Ephesians, chapter 3. After the rapture occurs, the focus will then resume to the prophetic program with Israel, picking up right where Jesus was warning Israel about all the events described in Matt. Chapter 24.

The interpretation that makes the most sense is the direct reading of the text which proves that jesus was a delusional cult leader who promised false things. Jesus was a liar, false prophet, and will not be returning. Mark 1:15 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. ("Has come", means NOW in the 1st century, not "eventually" or "is to come" thousands of years later. This is referencing claims that things would occur in the 1st century ONLY. ) Hebrews 1:2 "In these last days" (Someone doesn't refer to "these last days" when they don't specifically believe something isn't going to happen within the 1st century) Revelation 3:11 "I am coming soon" (A belief referencing the 1st century only) Mark 9:1 "9 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.” (All who were standing there tasted death. I have always understood that the disciples asked three individual questions and Jesus answered three individual questions but most people seem to mix up which answer goes with which question.
There are actually more than three questions if you study the discourse alongside Mark and Luke but you are absolutely correct. Jesus answers them in a different order and even adds an additional answer to a question they wouldn't even have thought to ask.
Many evangelical Christians misinterpret this to mean within 80 years (a generation due to strength) from the establishment of modern day Israel in 1948, the second coming of Christ will occur, i.e. Jesus will return no later than 2028. They point out the fact the fig tree in Matthew 24 refers to Israel, however Luke 22 also refers to the fig tree and ALL the trees (other nations). Dr. Andy Woods and several Bible prophecy teachers believe that the people (i.e. this generation without referring to the length of a generation) who will witness the Antichrist entering the rebuilt Third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and defiles it will be the people who will also see Christ’s return to Earth 3.5 years later.
We don't know what He meant by it. He could have meant that current generation of people he was referring to or he could have been referring to the generation that comes after Israel is brought back from the sword. A generation is approx 20-30 years. Some say 50 years. Either way, a generation has passed on both accounts so we really don't know.
His story just about him has me questioning myself why's it that he was around before with questions then came back with answers because God promised him forgiveness if he shared the difference between life and death which is what he did not actually focus on

I've heard people say "a generation in the Bible is less that 60 years". I think that He was referring to the modern generational life span, not the shorter life span of His time.
In Psalm 110:1, David says, “The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool’” (ESV). In Matthew 22:44, Jesus quotes this verse in a discussion with the Pharisees in order to prove that the Messiah is more than David’s son; He is David’s Lord. The clause the LORD says to my Lord contains two different Hebrew words for “lord” in the original. The first word is Yahweh, the Hebrew covenant name for God. The second is adoni, meaning “lord” or “master.” So, in Psalm 110:1, David writes this: “Yahweh says to my Adoni. . . .” To better understand Jesus’ use of Psalm 110:1, we’ll look at the identity of each “Lord” separately. The first “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the eternal God of the universe, the Great I AM who revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3. This self-existent, omnipotent God speaks in Psalm 110 to someone else who is also David’s “Lord.” The second “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the Messiah, or the Christ. Psalm 110 describes this second “Lord” as follows: ● He sits at God’s right hand (verse 1) ● He will triumph over all His enemies and rule over them (verses 1-2) ● He will lead a glorious procession of troops (verse 3) ● He will be “a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (verse 4) ● He will have divine power to crush kings, judge nations, and slay the wicked (verses 5-6) ● He will find refreshment and be exalted (verse 7) In Matthew 22:44, Jesus unmistakably identifies the second “Lord” of Psalm 110:1 as the Messiah, and the Pharisees all agree that, yes, David was speaking of the Messiah. Another important point that Jesus makes in Matthew 22 is that David wrote the psalm under the guidance of the Holy Spirit; David was “speaking by the Spirit,” Jesus says (verse 43). Clearly, Jesus taught the inspiration of Scripture. When David wrote, “The LORD says to my Lord,” he was recording exactly what God wanted him to write. divine characteristics of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. This means the holy spirit is God, co-equal with God the Father and God the Son and is of the same essence. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct from one another in terms of their personal relationship. But they are co-equally God, meaning they are all the being of God. In other words, they do not exist independently one from the other. So, you cannot remove one of the three persons of God and still have God as revealed in the Bible. God-as revealed in the Bible-is one and eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From what we see above, this means each person within the Trinity shares the same divine attributes. In other words, one person within the Trinity is not more God than the other. Know what else? The Holy Spirit is more than a force-He’s a Person. 11 personal characteristics of the Holy Spirit As the third member of the Trinity, the holy spirit is a person and is also personal. First, in the Old and New Testament books the Holy Spirit is referred to as “he,” and throughout the New Testament, he’s referred to as a person (John 6:63; 14:26; Rom. 8:11, 16, 26; 1 John 5:6). What we’ll see in the references below, the Holy Spirit can be grieved, resisted, and even insulted. An impersonal force cannot do these things. Only a person can. Second, before ascending to heaven, Jesus said he was going to send the Holy Spirit to be a counselor like him (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is also capable of teaching (Luke 12:12). In the verse before, he said "likewise YE, when YE shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Pretty clear that he was speaking to those present with him at the time, and he meant that the generation he was speaking to would not pass away before the kingdom of heaven was established in Jerusalem. It didn't happen. Pretty simple.

Nowhere in the Tanakh is it stated that forgiveness can be found only through blood sacrifice, and especially not human blood sacrifice. In the book of Jonah, the people of Nineveh had sinned and bible god was going to punish them. When Jonah showed them the error of their ways, they fasted and prayed, and were forgiven. The same thing happened in the book of Esther. Living in Persia between the first and second Temples, they fasted, regretted their sins and were forgiven. These historical examples clearly show that when there is no Temple, sincere repentance is all that is needed according to Jewish scriptures. Did David need Jesus or did he just repent to receive forgiveness? Did Samson need Jesus or did he just repent to receive forgiveness? How about Daniel? Did he sacrifice lots of virgins when requesting forgiveness for all his people, or did he just do some serious repenting? Read your bible more. In Luke 8:3, Jesus proved himself a hypocrite by taking money for his ministry from rich women after he told his followers they didn't need to worry about their needs as god would feed them like he feeds the birds (Matthew 6:25). He also demonized rich people various times to his followers while acting like a two-faced politician and getting bank rolled by them, which certainly is hypocrisy. Here is my careful conclusion on this study, that just expands on view 1: It seems that several passages tell us that Jesus’ coming will be seen by all.(not the Rapture, his second coming.) his coming initiates the celestial signs, the world will be in the prophesied conditions… and Jesus will take so long in arriving that the people seeing his coming (apparently like an asteroid in clouds) that they will begin to wonder if their generation will die off before he makes it to earth. He promised that they wouldn’t.

Matthew 24 contains the phrase "but the end is not yet". I watched to learn how people these days try to explain “generation” and found no alternative to the normal and natural meaning of a time of growing up and having children, about 40 years. It doesn’t mean race or kind of people, it means a lifetime of a group of people living at the same time. The generation of the fall of the second temple is the same generation of the Second Coming and the fall of the celestial bodies. What the guy needs to do, that he doesn’t even try to do is to explain the nature of the events listed. They are the judgement of the end of the Second Temple and the people of God and that system of creation, that “heaven and earth” that passed away in 70 CE. We are not living in that old creation anymore. We are living in the new heavens and the new earth, with no more sea, no sun and moon, our light is the Lamb.
I took it to mean exactly what he said. The generation of Jews that he dealt with during his earthly ministry are still there today insofar as their blind eyes, deaf ears, and hard hearts relative to who Jesus is. And they will remain there until they reach a point in the future when the Antichrist will have them in such a state that they will realize that the Messiah, which they collectively believe exists, is their only hope for survival. They will cry out to God as a people and the Messiah will come to their aid. It will just happen to be the prophet from Nazareth who they rejected and crucified 2000 years ago.
All these things refers to the birth pains (Matt. 24:8). It's not the end, but the signs leading up to the end. In the first generation of the church, all the events prefiguring the second coming occurred. There is nothing standing in the way of Christ's return.

Whether literal or not, Nero's name adds up to 666. He also oppressed the Jews in and around Jerusalem for 42 months. More than a million Jews were slaughtered and many thrown into Gehenna to have their corpses burned and eaten by worms. Plus this happened within 40 years of Jesus being alive.
I think one significant thing that would suggest that this would not be happening again, is that almost all of those things related directly to the Jews and not Gentiles. In our world today the followers of Jesus Christ are made up primarily of non Jewish people.
Also there is no temple in Jerusalem and no temple in heaven, which was referred to in the Revelation. We, the ekklesia, body of Christ, are now the temple of God.

The fig tree is a symbol of Israel in the Bible. It put forth its young leaves on May 14, 1948. The other things Jesus mentioned in this "generation" discourse, have been escalating faster and faster since Israel became a nation again (1948) I interpret this to to mean the generation that sees Israel back on it's land will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled. Observing what our world is going through in this present time it's not much of a stretch to deduce the time of the rapture, and His return is near. This is the Amir Tsarfati interpretation which I think for the most part is feasible, however, I would not be dogmatic given that this means a generation being 70-80 years of life would put the Rapture at about 4 years from now. When does the timeline for a generation actually begin? At 1948? or those born after 1948? Or once the prophetic signs begin to unfold? I think perhaps the latter, though I wouldn't be dogmatic on this either. That being said, definitely many of the prophetic signs that Christ mentioned in the Olivet Discourse have already begun to take shape, so it's clear we are in the season. But, of course, no man (Christ included) knows the day or the hour.

That verse also shows that The Church cannot be the replacement of Israel. The historical fake Establishment Church has been more of the oppressor and murderer of the Jews.
My heart, spirit and mind tells me we are so close to the Rapture that I try to always remind people to Repent, TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. The Rapture is not really Biblical. It is never specifically mentioned in scripture. It was an idea created and propogated by a man who was a theologian in the 1800s.

I understood that the generational clock started ticking when Israel became a nation. A generation can be interpreted in more than one way. I believe it refers to the Bible saying a man's life is 70 years, and 80 by strength. My mother were born the year before Israel became a nation. My dad the same year when Israel became a nation. Both still doing well, but we closing in on the 80 years. 🎉

By observing what is going on around the world, I believe the age of the Gentile is about to end; meaning God will start to focus on bringing His chosen people, Israel, back to Him. Likely the ongoing war has something to do with this God's plan?
I also believe in 7000 years of human history, and we are approaching 6000 years. Human history will conclude with 1000 years of Christ's Millennial Kingdom. Just as God rested on the 7th day of the creation, humans will live with genuine peace, rest, and prosperity under the rule of Jesus Christ, Our King and the only Savior.
Only God knows when. I believe the next major prophetic event will be the rapture of the church and follow closely by the introduction of the antichrist on the world stage.

I think in context, Jesus was speaking of His generation and the things He mentioned did happen and culminated around AD 70. Also note that in the Revelation account, which is figurative, not literal, the tribulation, beast, etc. took place when there was a temple in Jerusalem AND a temple in heaven. There is no longer a temple in Jerusalem and there is no longer a temple in heaven. We are the temple of the living God. Everything changed at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the picture in the last chapters of the Revelation, notice that there is no temple in the city where God dwells. In my opinion this new heaven and new earth became a reality at the resurrection of Christ. All things were made new, old things have passed away. 2 Cor 5.

That first century chosen generation (whom Peter was writing to) of Israel, rejected it. They rejected all of it. They rejected their Messiah and their kingdom. So, it didn't come. Their 70th week never came because they fell in unbelief and diminished (Romans 11:11-12) and salvation (was of the Jews) has come to the Gentiles. Paul was given a Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles (Ephesians 3:1-2), which is what happened instead of Israel's 70th week. Today, during this Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles, Israel is still blinded as to who their Messiah is.
But we see in Revelation 7, that they will begin their 80th week and they will rise and shine as a light unto the Gentiles during a time of darkness (Israel's 70th week, Tribulation, Jacob's trouble). I think it is clear from the entire context of these chapters that Jesus was answering questions that were just asked of Him. There is evidence that the things Jesus spoke about the desecration of the temple, rise of antichrist, tribulation, destruction of the temple and Jerusalem, and the end of the age, all occurred and culminated around 70 AD. That was the end of the Jewish age, the age of Judaism and old covenant.

Context is important to understand
When Jesus said "This generation", He was reffering to the generation that will witness the things He prophesied about, not the generation during His time on earth. Its like saying
"There will be people that will witness this event. These people will not die before seeing it."

The Genaration of 70 AD!
The Gospels was written after Jerusalem was destroyed. The Apostles were writing letters to the congregations before the Gospels was written. Because after the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. The Jewish practice of animal sacrifices ended when the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem. With the temple gone, there is no longer a place for the sacrifices to be offered according to the Mosaic Law. Did they make the Gospels up because they had no temple no more. No they didn't. The Gospels are proof of Jesus the Lamb of YHVH Yehovah Jehovah God! The need for animal sacrifices no longer existed, for Christ had fulfilled the righteous requirements of the Law (Matthew 5:17). Animal sacrifices were merely a type of the perfect Sacrifice-the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). The sacrifice of Christ paid the debt of sin for all mankind, both Jew and Gentile (Romans 1:16; Hebrews 9:12-15).

To add to that - the Hebrew language has a tense not present in English - it was called the "prophetic" tense. It is used by prophets often and indicated by conjugations in the verbs, etc. The passage in question was written in the prophetic tense confirming that the events that are translated as present in English are in prophetic tense originally - which is a way of talking about the future as if it were the present.

That is an interesting interpretation.
What is also interesting is in Revelation, which was in part an epistle and written to literal churches in existence at the time of the writing, starts off in the beginning of chapter 1 as saying “to show his servants the things which must soon take place”.
I’m bringing that up because any reader at the time would think “soon” means “soon” not “a day with the Lord is as a thousand years” or whatever allegorical meaning it could have.
It would seem that both many parts of Revelation along with the prophecy in Matt 24 were literally taking place within the generation after Jesus or the generation around Jesus’s time. You really have to lay another framework on all those verses to get them to mean sometime out in the future (like thousands of years as many teach).
Where we miss it:
We think verse 3 of Matthew 24 is one big question to which Jesus gives one big answer.
If we do get that verse 3 is actually three questions that get answered one by one, then we expect the answers to come in the same order.

This generation meant that one. Fulfilled in 70 A.D.. Don't confuse the End of Days with the End of Judah, The Temple. and the End of Jerusalem, which happened in 70 A.D.
Notably, the verse immediately following the one in question reads: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." It could be argued that Jesus was not talking about the near future and soon-to-be witnessed events. Maybe He was referring to the post-flood generation. Christ used the word "generation" 23 times apart from the Olivet prophecy. Look them up in a concordance. You'll see that every one of them pertains to the generation He was talking to in His day. Quotes like "first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation", "an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah", "the men of Nineveh will rise in the judgement with this generation", "the queen of the south will rise in the judgement with this generation", "o faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?", "all the righteous blood shed on the earth.... will come upon this generation" etc etc. Yes, He also mentions His return as a concluding event, but the bulk of the Olivet prophecy is about AD70, and it is to this event that "all these things" pertain.

In Luke version, it cannot be future. It specifically says they ( Jews) will be lead into captivity. So when Jesus returns in future the Jews are lead into captivity? NO. He is speaking of 70 A.D. and that’s exactly what happened.

The verse is straight forward. Jesus came back in 70 AD.
The context of Matt 24 begins in Matt 23. Through chapter 23, Jesus is excoriating the Sanhedrin for their poor leadership, not keeping the covenant and for keeping the children of God from worshiping him. Jesus then predicts the destruction of the Temple. Later, when on the Mount of Olives, the Disciples ask Christ in privacy "when will these things be." Christ's answer is that these events will take place during their generation. Furthermore, the "celestial signs" of Matt 24 is an OT imagery that always denoted the destruction of a specific enemy of God. Putting that back in context of Matt 23 and Matt 24, it becomes clear that Jesus is talking about the destruction of the Sanhedrin and the Temple age, and thus bringing about the full commencement of the Church Age. That truth becomes all the more evident when you put Christ's prophetic words into the smaller context of Jesus answering a specific question to his Disciples in privacy that the only sensible answer is that Christ is telling THEM what signs THEY need to be on the watch for so THEY can take appropriate action. Further cementing the veracity with which the Disciples took this prophecy to mean the specific events of 70 AD is that that era's historians noted that no Christians remained in Jerusalem when the Roman armies destroyed the city. Clearly, the Disciples shared the prophecy and God's people heeded the words to the point of being out of the city before it was destroyed.
I respectfully disagree with your entire explanation. Jesus was speaking directly to his present audience as they were the “this generation”. This is further shown by reading Matt. 16:27-28 where Jesus tells those disciples present with him that “they would not taste death before they would see the Son of Man returning to set up his kingdom”. What happened ??? The only explanation is that God the Father decided to interrupt the Kingdom Gospel with the gospel of the Grace of God. This dispensation of Grace is now forming The Church, the body of Christ and has gone on now, for nearly 2000 years. This is all explained in the opening chapters of Ephesians, and especially Ephesians, chapter 3.

I have always understood that the disciples asked three individual questions and Jesus answered three individual questions but most people seem to mix up which answer goes with which question.
There are actually more than three questions if you study the discourse alongside Mark and Luke but you are absolutely correct. Jesus answers them in a different order and even adds an additional answer to a question they wouldn't even have thought to ask.
Many evangelical Christians misinterpret this to mean within 80 years (a generation due to strength) from the establishment of modern day Israel in 1948, the second coming of Christ will occur, i.e. Jesus will return no later than 2028. They point out the fact the fig tree in Matthew 24 refers to Israel, however Luke 22 also refers to the fig tree and ALL the trees (other nations).
Dr. Andy Woods and several Bible prophecy teachers believe that the people (i.e. this generation without referring to the length of a generation) who will witness the Antichrist entering the rebuilt Third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and defiles it will be the people who will also see Christ’s return to Earth 3.5 years later.
We don't know what He meant by it. He could have meant that current generation of people he was referring to or he could have been referring to the generation that comes after Israel is brought back from the sword. A generation is approx 20-30 years. Some say 50 years. Either way, a generation has passed on both accounts so we really don't know.

I think that He was referring to the modern generational life span, not the shorter life span of His time.
In Psalm 110:1, David says, “The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool’” (ESV). In Matthew 22:44, Jesus quotes this verse in a discussion with the Pharisees in order to prove that the Messiah is more than David’s son; He is David’s Lord.
The clause the LORD says to my Lord contains two different Hebrew words for “lord” in the original. The first word is Yahweh, the Hebrew covenant name for God. The second is adoni, meaning “lord” or “master.” So, in Psalm 110:1, David writes this: “Yahweh says to my Adoni. . . .” To better understand Jesus’ use of Psalm 110:1, we’ll look at the identity of each “Lord” separately.
The first “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the eternal God of the universe, the Great I AM who revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3. This self-existent, omnipotent God speaks in Psalm 110 to someone else who is also David’s “Lord.”
The second “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the Messiah, or the Christ. Psalm 110 describes this second “Lord” as follows:

A common title for the Messiah in Jesus’ day was “Son of David,” based on the fact that the Messiah would be the descendant of David who would inherit the throne and fulfill the Davidic Covenant (see 2 Samuel 7). Jesus’ reasoning is this: “Son of David” is your title for the Messiah, yet David himself calls Him “Lord.” The Messiah, then, must be much more than just a son-a physical descendant-of David. All of this information is contained in the statement that “the LORD says to my Lord.” Jesus is David’s Lord; He is the Christ, the Jewish Messiah, and Psalm 110 is a promise of Jesus’ victory at His second coming.

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity.
This means the holy spirit is God, co-equal with God the Father and God the Son and is of the same essence. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct from one another in terms of their personal relationship. But they are co-equally God, meaning they are all the being of God. Make no mistake, the holy spirit is so much more than an it or impersonal force-he’s God.

As the third member of the Trinity, the holy spirit is a person and is also personal.
We see this in a few different ways.
First, in the Old and New Testament books the Holy Spirit is referred to as “he,” and throughout the New Testament, he’s referred to as a person (John 6:63; 14:26; Rom. 8:11, 16, 26; 1 John 5:6). What we’ll see in the references below, the Holy Spirit can be grieved, resisted, and even insulted. An impersonal force cannot do these things. Only a person can.
Second, before ascending to heaven, Jesus said he was going to send the Holy Spirit to be a counselor like him (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is also capable of teaching (Luke 12:12). Unlike gravity-an impersonal force-that can neither counsel nor teach people, the Holy Spirit can do both.

In the verse before, he said "likewise YE, when YE shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Pretty clear that he was speaking to those present with him at the time, and he meant that the generation he was speaking to would not pass away before the kingdom of heaven was established in Jerusalem. It didn't happen. Pretty simple.
Jesus brings us comfort. Jesus brings us joy and hope, knowing that He removed all of our sins at Calvary. If you need some teaching on the matter, the you tube channel, 'faith cometh by hearing' has a fine teaching series titled, 'change of mind' which helped me understand the matter.
Nowhere in the Tanakh is it stated that forgiveness can be found only through blood sacrifice, and especially not human blood sacrifice.
In the book of Jonah, the people of Nineveh had sinned and bible god was going to punish them. When Jonah showed them the error of their ways, they fasted and prayed, and were forgiven. The same thing happened in the book of Esther. Living in Persia between the first and second Temples, they fasted, regretted their sins and were forgiven. These historical examples clearly show that when there is no Temple, sincere repentance is all that is needed according to Jewish scriptures.
Did David need Jesus or did he just repent to receive forgiveness?

It seems that several passages tell us that Jesus’ coming will be seen by all.(not the Rapture, his second coming.) his coming initiates the celestial signs, the world will be in the prophesied conditions… and Jesus will take so long in arriving that the people seeing his coming (apparently like an asteroid in clouds) that they will begin to wonder if their generation will die off before he makes it to earth. He promised that they wouldn’t.

The book “Raptureless” by Dr. Jonathan Welton explains how that prophecy came to pass in AD 70 within that generation.
So where does that leave us now?

He was referring to the generation that was involved in the fig tree coming back to life. The fig tree is Israel, the generation in view is the ww2 veterans. They are all about to vanish, pass away but 2030/31. So THAT is the timeline to the end of this age.

Only Matthew 24:1-2 was fulfilled in AD 70. However, Matthew 24:4-31 is obviously about Daniel's 70th week (Daniel 9:27).
Matthew 24 contains the phrase "but the end is not yet". Everything said before has been what history has been, and some of it bad enough to wonder if the end is coming, but they were not signs of the end. They were mentioned by Jesus so we would know the difference when the things after that phrase began to happen.

I more lean towards the dual fulfillment side of things. As far as I can tell, all of Jesus’ prophecy was fulfilled by AD 70, including the celestial signs, as we can see Jewish historians recorded “Bad omens” shortly before, including the sun darkening, and comets in the sky.
Matthew 24:3-11 = Revelation 6:1-8. John wrote Revelation in the 90s AD. Also Matthew 24:29 is describing Nuclear Winter which could not possibly have occurred before 1945. There is duality in prophecy, but the AD 70 destruction was merely a type of the utter destruction described in the Major/Minor Prophets and Revelation.

The word translated “generation” could also be translated “people”. The Jewish people will still be on the earth until “these things take place”.

I think Jesus is talking about everyone from his death to his second coming.
I watched to learn how people these days try to explain “generation” and found no alternative to the normal and natural meaning of a time of growing up and having children, about 40 years. It doesn’t mean race or kind of people, it means a lifetime of a group of people living at the same time.
The generation of the fall of the second temple is the same generation of the Second Coming and the fall of the celestial bodies. What the guy needs to do, that he doesn’t even try to do is to explain the nature of the events listed. They are the judgement of the end of the Second Temple and the people of God and that system of creation, that “heaven and earth” that passed away in 70 CE. We are not living in that old creation anymore. We are living in the new heavens and the new earth, with no more sea, no sun and moon, our light is the Lamb.

I took it to mean exactly what he said. The generation of Jews that he dealt with during his earthly ministry are still there today insofar as their blind eyes, deaf ears, and hard hearts relative to who Jesus is.
And they will remain there until they reach a point in the future when the Antichrist will have them in such a state that they will realize that the Messiah, which they collectively believe exists, is their only hope for survival. They will cry out to God as a people and the Messiah will come to their aid. It will just happen to be the prophet from Nazareth who they rejected and crucified 2000 years ago.

All these things refers to the birth pains (Matt. 24:8). It's not the end, but the signs leading up to the end. In the first generation of the church, all the events prefiguring the second coming occurred. There is nothing standing in the way of Christ's return.
Pastor has missed the prophecy. The generation that will not pass away is the generation that will see the fig tree come back to life. Its a specific prophecy.
