What I love is that Turn A is one of the single most powerful and deadly mobile suits in the whole franchise, yet Loran has the lowest kill count of all Gundam pilots by far.

    • @Crimsonlupus

I’ve always found that funny, but also weirdly wholesome. Turn A is moonlight butterfly from what I’ve looked up, is supposed to be able to spread across our entire solar system, yet Loran used it as a washing machine. It’s such a brilliant and beautiful way to handle this reality.

Best moment in Turn A for me:
earthlings finally went to space and the crew got homesick and frightened, so they tried to eat and drink their fears away. They got so drunk, one guy had came up with a brilliant idea. He donned his space suit, jumped into a wine barrel and got other people seal the barrel and throw him overboard towards earth. Loran was like 'is this even happening?' and had to deploy to save his stupid ass.

This makes me happy, Turn A truly can be seen as the final chapter in the Gundam Franchise, subjectively tho.
After learning of the Dark History and knowing that humanity will always drive itself to destruction, the end is bitter sweet, the ending to end all endings. Will humanity know peace? Evidence shows otherwise, but the hope for it is still there.

    • @lagunaseca3806

Zeta Rise For the record, G gundam series is doing well to preserve peace by doing gundam fights to decide who to rule for the next 4 years. Also it is probably the closest timeline to Turn A series. I wonder what happened between it that made the Turn A destroy the earth.

    • @ftlengineer
      @ftlengineer 8 лет назад +8

+Mark LaFrancis 8th MS Team is my go-to starting point for gundam because it's easy to understand and mostly good. Gundam series tend to historically be "good, but flawed," but MS Team never makes mistakes which break immersion or become preachy. G Gundam is...for special people. If you liked Bleach or DBZ, you will probably love G Gundam, but when you hit Naruto I have to switch over to MS Team.

    • @LieutenantAlaki
      @LieutenantAlaki 8 лет назад +7

+Mark LaFrancis G Gundam is honestly one of the best-written Gundam series in the franchise. It's silly and absurd, but there's a lot of heart in it and its characters and arcs are pretty solid. I'd certainly recommend it over most other Gundam series, especially most of the newer ones.

If we are talking UC 0079 ok I can get that, although it be stupid to turn away from the show because of that. But Turn A is beautifully and it’s dated animation adds a certain simplistic charm to the experience.

All Out War - Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, 8th MS Team, Gundam 0083, Gundam Seed and Gundam AGE.

This really is a sweet surprise! Turn-A is one of my favourite Gundams! Thanks for reviewing this Arkada, I do hope more people get into the Gundam series 'cause of this.
I do agree with you on the fact that to appreciate Turn-A more, people should at least check out the other Gundam series first. Turn-A's ending was brilliant and it still haunts me to this day, really bittersweet and one of the endings that will join the ranks of Zeta and Victory Gundam.
Definitely the best Gundam OST, the tracks Moon and Moon's Cocoon has so much emotion to it that I feel so many emotions and tear up when I hear it. It takes me back to Loran's whole journey up to the end. Kanno Yoko, bless her she's a gift to humanity.
Hope you do more reviews for the other Gundam series too, maybe others are looking for more guides as to which Gundam series should they check out first. I'm not really a fan of the mecha genre, but the characters in the Gundam series (and Macross) are the ones that keep me on watching and staying with the bonus of ingenious moments that are really good that you can never find out of that genre.
More power to you! Thanks for staying frosty!

Want to know what held up Gundam Wing through the second half of the series once Relena started preaching her absolute pacifism ideals? Believe it or not, it was Dorothy Catalonia. Yes, the "War Monger" girl with the pincer shaped eyebrows who everyone hates but I myself actually love and is my favorite character in the Gundam Wing series.
Allow me to explain: Dorothy serves as the perfect contrast to Relena when it comes to ideals. The reason why she's a "war monger" is because she understands war better than anyone else aside from Zechs and Trieze. She also recognizes that human conflict will always exist no matter what age we live in or how much we want peace.
Gundam Wing may have had it's own fair share of flaws when it comes to its writing but if there's one thing that I applaud the writers the most for it's putting in Dorothy Catalonia. Had they not put her into the series after the explosive first half, I really do think that the series would just fallen apart once Relena started preaching her ridiculous ideals.
And you know what? Relena might have become the character Dianna was in this series had it not been for the bullshit ending Endless Waltz had.

the25thprime It's not a parody it is just the only time Gundam decided to say screw realism and go full super robot instead of the traditional realistic Mecha all previous Gundams were hell G Started the idea of alternative takes of Gundam outside the UC and it was after the first 3 those being G, Wing, and X that Turn A came about and those along with the UC being the dark history was the creator of Gundam himself letting those who enjoyed those 3 spin offs and the fan boys of the UC that he feels that all are still Gundam and that he gives his blessing to future generations interpretations of his creation. Granted there are probably a few take backs on this -_- (seed destiny and G Savior but hey every long runing franchise has it's ups and downs).

Im only attempting to get into the series now at 23. While I thought the dated animation of 0079 would put me off it, by episode 3 I was hooked, im currently on episode 20ish and loving it, if you can get your hands on a high quality version of the show I'd highly reccomend it. If your a continuity freak like me just start at the beginning. The dated animation lends itself well to the at times disappointing dub and becomes part of it's charm to me as opposed to holding it back.

I really like the Turn-A's design, so many mecha tend to be over-designed. They put some many...'things' on the machine it looks like you could never handle it properly in a battle. Turn-A has a good balance, its sleek and yet powerful. It's also mentioned in the show that it is supposed to be modular, that it is supposed to carry different weapons for different situations.

In my opinion start with wing, move on with turn, next is Seed, move to 00 which is the best one, get to Unicorn and finally your allowed to watch Iron Blooded Orphans. DONE. Plus with all these Gundam series to watch your not going to have time to watch other anime. So screw the old ones in the 1980's, no one is going to waste their time to watch over 30 to 40 episodes of old crappy animation and generic writing and standard villians.

While Turn A did have some problems, I really enjoy it! I don't know if it's one of my favorite Gundam series, but I think it's pretty good!
As far as your beginning speech about which Gundam series to recommend to new watchers, I would always recommend starting from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and following the UC narrative all the way to the present with Unicorn. Although if the watcher wanted something a bit newer, I would say to jump right into Iron Blooded Orphans, because it was pretty damn great! The only series I wouldn't recommend is Wing, and SeeD Destiny(although SeeD itself is fine). But that's just my opinion, since I watched G and Wing first, but I only really got into Gundam through model kits and video games. And then for a brief period of time, Toonami aired the original series, and I was hooked...

I genuienly and honestly believe that G Gundam is hands down the best Gundam series out of all the Gundams wether it be Univesal Century or Alternate Century. The over the topness of the show is what makes it so great it takes what makes Gundam great and Super Robots great and pulls it together in one series perfectly. The Mech designs are unique and for the most part very cool and memorable the main protagonist and antagonist have a great story because there famil as well as the love story that builds to a great climax at the end. And then you have the rest of the shuffle alliance. All of this wraps up into a nice 50 episode package with no filler and just more action and great lines that people still quote to this day.

+TheAtheistPaladin I grew up with Wing and was loving it to death. Yet, after I grew up and can judge things more objectively after rewatching it, Wing is pretty crappy when it comes to writing & execution (it's on the level of Transformers G-1 & G.I. Joe) while other childhood show like Cowboy Bebop becomes better the more I rewatch it. I'd say SEED is better than Wing when it comes to writing and execution (they're about on par when it comes to the huge amount of reused animation & stock footage though). That said, I really dislike Destiny in general.

I always recommend The 7th MS Team as an entry point to Gundam. Keeps things relatively simple, provides all the building blocks of what Gundam is, but most importantly it shoots everything from the grunts point of view. The main protagonist isn't and angsty preteen genius who must suck it up to save the world, he's just a soldier who is pretty good at piloting a mech. Add in the rest of his squad and support staff and their interactions and you get one hell of an entertaining mecha anime.

Yay! Exceptionally well made review of the most original and may be most satisfying Gindam series!
I can only applause to you, sir and am almost agreed.
    Except the SPOILERS:
The thins, I was very disappointed is lack of answers about Khiel/Dianna relations and origin.
They are a twins or clones or anything else but ZERO answers were given.
As for Reinford, from the very beginning till the end he was concerned only about his own supremacy no matter how, so no any questions, why he had chosen dark path of force.
The real problem is Moon ark itself and relation to Dark Ages.
On this point, whole show had all the chances to evolve and become something really Big and Great, that unifies al the previous Gundam titles and elevate it to next level.
    But no!
    No any proper climax.
    No any catharsis.
And pity last 5 series of rushed action for no reason.
    Why?
    WHY?!
They had all the cards and were coming through great build-up to something grandiose.
But instead, turned backwards and flushed away all the potential...
