Your teaching skills are exceptional. Your videos are the best I have found and you are helping me build understanding and confidence. Thanks for all your hard work.
your videos are superb. your teaching style is excellent. please do more videos of different species with explanations of best time of year for potting and trimming.
Thanks for the kind comments. I'll be on the lookout for another species that would make a good video. Best time to repot would be early spring and fall. Trimming can depend on the species. Hope this helps.
I agree that your videos are very informative, but may I suggest you slow down a little bit and take your time-you almost seem out of breath. Sometimes I miss words because you're speaking so fast. It's kind of ironic that you move and speak so rapidly when you are teaching growing bonsai. I simply mean this as constructive criticism. Thanks so much for the great videos-I've learned a lot with all of them.
I would like to second the request for a video on apex building. Maybe with some diagrams of different approaches and some real life examples of new and old to show how you might expect them to develop? Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work.
Thanks for these videos. I am working on a Sequoia Sempervirens ( coastal redwood ). Maybe you can address how to style a tree like this that is rarely anything but straight . Thanks again
I can't find a video that shows me how to properly prune/push back a mugo pine other than cutting at the base. I would love it if you could do a video of that. I'm guessing it the same as a pine but not 100% sure. Help!!!
Awesome video and thanks for making the content! I'm just starting and have a Hawthorne bush that I bought on clearance and I saw a tree in it and although the leaves are larger, I can see some potential in it...any suggestions?
are there any recommended videos for beginners that slow the process down so you can follow the process easier shaping and basic structure recommendations making wires to place through bottom on new container the shaping of them i really like watching but sometimes get overwhelmed i am starting with juniper plant
Hello Jason, really enjoy your videos. This tree looks amazing. Would it be possible for you to do a video showing how to form the apex on a tree like this or maybe a hinoki Cypress please? Keep up the good work Thanks crisraw
It grew fast because of how big the pot was (that it was just in) allowing the roots to grow freely. If you want a thick trunk, plant your tree in the biggest pot you can find or just plant it in your backyard and it will look like that in 1 year.
just im curious about when we stop wiring...every video out there says how to wire and things but will they stop growing somehow? do we need specific times to continue wiring? should we make wire free somday...?no idea...and wanna know
I would love to know how you got the trunk so nice and smooth and reddish colored? I have a lovely wild collected California Juniper that is about 60 years old and I have it shaped and wired and in a shallow bowl type Bonsai pot, but the bark is rough and gray. Is there anything I can do with out damaging the tree? I really love my tree. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
Hey jason! Loved the video and how u make these trees so beautiful. I just bought one today and it is 3 years old. I was just wondering how long to wait before i wire it? Also where do you get ur inspiration ideas?
is this considered slip potting? i noticed you left a good portion of the old soil around the remaining roots. is this to create less stress to the tree after the root pruning? thanks
This is so wonderful! Thank you for making this follow up video. What does the tree look like now? Also, I wonder when you are supposed to take the wires off? What are the signs that show you it’s time?
Solid video. How long does the wire need to be with the tree before the branches take the shape your looking for without it? In other words, when can the wire be removed?
Jason, I love the way you explain things. Now, I need help with the Bonsai I want to start because is from 4 tropical fruit trees and I can't find anything about tropical fruit trees. Can you help? (Mango, Lemon, Orange and Barbados Cherry (Acerola).
The bark colour has turned red and it looks nice and smooth. How did you do that? There was a big scar where you cut the branch a year ago. What happened to it? Thanks.
Hi Houston, We created a shari on the trunk to hide the cut as well as accentuate the movement in the trunk. We also used a show trick for creating the red trunk by brushing the trunk with a wet toothbrush. Hope this helps! - Jason
Are you in southern Cali or northern Cali. You are reporting and trimming in March. I'm assuming you're in northern California? I'm in Florida and need to take one out of the ground. It's February and I think its too warm. 60°/80°
Hi Kevin, This tree is from our bonsai nursery and growing ground. www.easternleaf.com However, if you do some searching, you might be able to find some good stuff at your local nursery as well.
Good Lookin with the info J, I would like to know how did you get the bark of the tree to look so brownish and alive with color. In the original video"How to Wire a Bonsai Tree Branch" the Bark was no way that brownish. Again thanks for the info and keep them comin...
Hi Jason, I like your vids :) I´d like to ask you what exactly is the solution which is used to brush the trunk of a bonsai for its smooth and brownish appearance?
That would be from a secret bonsai tool called a toothbrush. Typically before bringing a tree to a show, you can use a wet toothbrush to brush the trunk. This will give it that nice reddish brown color. But make sure you only do this to Junipers! :)
The tree looks great, but isn't it scarred from the wires? What do you do about that? Mine has grooves on it from the wire being left on too long. It had wire on it for about 6 months, you said a year. Mines not as old as yours however.
HerbanLegend temperature can also be a factor, along with every tree growing different from one another. you can take comfort in knowing your work wasn't wasted in removing it to soon .. plus your bonsai is young so the scarring can heal over time with the growing of new bark.. 😊
Awesome videos man! I am new to bonsai and appreciate all of the knowledge! I'd like to know more about pruning and sort of the do's and dont's of bonsai (I have Juniper Procumbens). What is another good source for learning more about the basic techniques of bonsai?
TeeGeeOh never prune newly forming buds, only prune fully open needles and never take off foliage from branches you want to survive ,as they need foliage to move sap through branches.. prune to much and juniper will die.. thats all I got today, maiq is tired now😊
So one of my tiny branches died after some severe pruning. I got a little too eager because I can be somewhat impatient, but the lesson has been thoroughly learned. I just got my second bonsai and I purchased it from Eastern Leaf, it's beautiful! This is another question...I left the little branch on there for 2 weeks while it died to sort of use it for a gauge of how long it might take for a branch to die (or even the tree) due to some errant pruning mistakes. However, the rest of the tree received the same level of pruning, some branches of the same size, some bigger, but the tree as a whole seems to be flourishing. I really take good care of it and have done research in regards to watering, feeding, lighting, etc... Do you think I should be concerned about the rest of the tree even though the foliage is all still lush and green whereas the little branch died out very quickly? Can you wire a branch when it still is green before it turns into wood? The tree is about 6-7 years old. Thank you!
Hi Matias, Yes, that tree was trained when it was very young as well. However, sometimes you get lucky and you'll find a tree that might have some natural movement. :)
julia savitskaya keep an eye on it. some trees grow quick and the wire will "bite" into the branch, but it really depends on the species. maybe do one bottom branch first and that should give you an idea. only 1 of a million solutions
I'm thinking about keeping this one for a bit and maybe doing a graft with a follow up later. Not sure how much someone would be willing to pay for this one. It's part of my collection for now. :)
SO my question is: How much profitable is bonsaiying? Like, if you dont want it only as a hobby? If it takes so long to grow and design a tree, how do you actually win money with it?
myromm well, if you can find someone interested in buying it, it could go for like 20$-**$ depending I guess in what type it is. Mainly, bonsai is for a hobby, as it is pretty relaxing. Hope this helped.
If you want to profit from bonsais then at the very beginning make a LOT of them. And continue on making new ones all the way as the earlier batches mature. Get creative with the landscapes. Do a lot of varieties with color, size, texture and shape to imitate a natural zen aesthetics and in five to ten years your work will worth thousands of dollars.
A suggestion. If you number your videos for us, we can then go back to find the previous one. It is important for us, or me, to follow what you have done.
Thanks for your interesting videos! Give us a lot of info but ,please try speak slower. You are on internet , people are watching you from different countries. Also if you show objects in your hand to the camera please hold your hand steady.Than your video will be more enjoyeble. Thanks anyway I waiting your next video regards George.
Your teaching skills are exceptional. Your videos are the best I have found and you are helping me build understanding and confidence. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for the follow up.
I appreciate you skipping things you’ve already covered but referring to your previous videos for those details.
Wow, the tree looks real matured compared to the previous video. Beautiful👍
You're work is super brother... keep them coming!
I'm really looking forward to starting bonsai. Hey from scotland
Glad to see a new upload! Please do more!
well informed videos you got here, we hope to see more in the future.. the bonsai community is booming this year..
XxScArEcRoWxX1 don't you mean "blooming" ^_^
Jenn Velas nice one. 😊
I liked the bit where he used magic/teleportation to put the soil in. A true ancient mastery of skill

All makes sense. Wonderful tutorial. Very clear. I feel less like a deer in headlights now.
Maravilloso! Esos pequeños árboles te aman mucho. Yo quisiera hacer uno porque me parece un arte maravilloso. 😘
Thanks for the great tips Jason. New to bonsai. I prune big trees.
I would like to second the request for a video on apex building. Maybe with some diagrams of different approaches and some real life examples of new and old to show how you might expect them to develop? Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work.
Great stuff... keep videos comming Jason!
🌳🌲your videos give me great ideas. good info .Keith Australia
Thanks for your time love your videos and buying from your store your number 1 class A
Same stuff I always do. Good info. I much prefer pine trees though.
Video was great. As always. Cheers from Utah
Thanks for these videos. I am working on a Sequoia Sempervirens ( coastal redwood ). Maybe you can address how to style a tree like this that is rarely anything but straight . Thanks again

This tree is very very nice.

I feel like the apex should be further to the right, maybe increase the planting angle about firther over?
beautifull bonsai u made man . loved the video .
will this still grow even in the smaller pot? Thanks
So that was a carpet/ground runner juniper you angled to grow upward???
Great video greetings from Costa Rica.
are there any recommended videos for beginners that slow the process down so you can follow the process easier shaping and basic structure recommendations making wires to place through bottom on new container the shaping of them i really like watching but sometimes get overwhelmed i am starting with juniper plant
Great job. Have you considered watering when done to show beginners that last step
Thanks so much ❤️
You me lots information I need
Have a nice day

how do you get so much growth in a year? that trunk is so thick! it was like a twig in your previous vid

@@dustinfigueroa1205 why didn't the wire dig onto the tree after a year? Because I have a few trees that the wire got into the tree after 3 months!
@@Wasabiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii that's a really good question,t he same has happened to me. He most likely re-wired that tree about 3 or 4 times.
just Great! greetings from Costa Rica!
How are your tropical trees doing in Costa Rica?! What kinda species are you guys doing the most as Bonsai?
Bonsai Talk a lot of ficus species, ligustrum Vulgare and ligustrum ovalifolia; as well as fruit trees citrics and also some junipers and pines too
Do you have any videos regarding good flowering Bonsai for beginners ?
time for an update video? How is this tree now?
Good material.
just im curious about when we stop wiring...every video out there says how to wire and things but will they stop growing somehow? do we need specific times to continue wiring? should we make wire free somday...?no idea...and wanna know
Update vid? I’ve never root pruned a conifer that much without killing it.
Or maybe just a vid in how/when to root prune

Very informative video.I like your videos
hi can i request json how to fertilizer the bonsai thanks the right way?
very nice progress. !!!
How does the wire not pinch into the branches?
That is an awesome bonsai after 12mths.
Thanks Chris! It's still in the garden and doing well.
Thks Jason! 👍

Hey Jason. Is there a chance u can style another one of the same species and ship it to me. I'm in ny.
Solid video.
How long does the wire need to be with the tree before the branches take the shape your looking for without it? In other words, when can the wire be removed?
I like to remove them after 6 months
The wire on the branches do they stay on all the time or do they come off after a certain time ??
does cutting the roots back serve to help the tree grow into a bonsai or is it done just to fit the pot
A very nice video I am just a beginner but I like it.
Please teach us how to design the appex of a bonsai. I like your videos.
Do you advise waiting a year before potting nursery brought plants or can you pot them quite shortly after styling?
where is the previous video?

Hi Jason.. Thanks for the informative videos.. Can you make a basic tutorial for creating an apex especially for junipers?
That's a great idea! I'll put that on the list. The apex is always the trickiest part.
It's a great idea indeed..!
What kind of wire do you get?
Also, how long does it take for you to actually take the wiring out?
My look like your bonsai , I just star this month , thank good work

Are junipers inside bonsai?
Can you make a video to make a chilli pepper plant into bonsai?
Thank you for showing the progress!
Jason - I’d love to purchase a *similar* styled and sized specimen for a tea house that I just built.
Please let me know privately. Thank you.
Beautiful tree. Did you buy this at a bonsai nursery or was this a nursery plant? I’m looking for junipers that size
Hi Kevin, This tree is from our bonsai nursery and growing ground. www.easternleaf.com However, if you do some searching, you might be able to find some good stuff at your local nursery as well.
Hi! Can you make a video on bonsai pots ? Drainage holes, depth, material ..
He's literally done various videos covering each of these topics.. look over the page :)
Have you done a Royal Poinciana before?
Do the wires ever come off the tree?

Mily from Florida
Hi Mily, Thanks. This particular species of Juniper (Juniper Prostrata) is a fast grower. It might be time for an update this spring! :)
Why do you trim roots?
yet another great video. How old is she?
After watching your videos , I caught myself looking at trees in detail where I go now 🤦🏻♂️
D V I’ve always done this. I always catch myself wanting to dig up plants or trees in peoples yards and bonsai them
i love your videos

Hi Jason,,, i like ur vid, can u make another video about how to grow moss
Khrisna Suastika the water should do it naturally if not you can't buy some spread Moss at a local nursery
Will not grow in full sun which most bonsai trees require. However most use it to cover soil for shows simply to hide ingredients like pumice
How much for that tree?
