The New Evangelicals exists to support those who are tired of how evangelical church has been done before and want to see an authentic faith lived out with Jesus at the center. On this channel, you'll see videos from our founder Tim Whitaker and our incredible guests as they react and respond biblically to topics such as Christian Nationalism, church hurt, terrible Christian movies, bad conservative Christian takes, and MUCH more!
We are committed to building a caring community that emulates the ways of Jesus by reclaiming the evangelical tradition and embracing values that build a better way forward. If you’ve been marginalized by your faith, you are welcome here. We’ve built an empathetic and inclusive space that encourages authentic conversations, connections and faith. Whether you consider yourself a Christian, an exvangelical, someone who's questioning your faith, or someone who's left the faith entirely, you are welcome here!

It isn't even true that they are emotionless. They love anger. It's the one emotion "true men" get. They lack the courage to unmask all the emotion hiding behind their anger.

Why not be angry when people like you have gone out of your way to abuse us, publicly and privately, for decades? Why is it okay for you to ve angry, but not us? Hypocrisy is an ugly color, hon.

Biblical often equals anointing my thoughts as God's thoughts. Embracing the lie that my interpretation is the Bible and the Bible is God therefor, I am God.

Wanting purity without submitting to the blood of Yeshua and respect for the cross of Yeshua is very problematic. And presenting christian principles without emphasizing the love of God is also problematic. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.

35:40 When he talks about moral character he mentions should we be encouraging pride parades with men dressed in tight whites twerking or encourage “truth, goodness and beauty”. Who says those people aren’t goodness and beauty? I certainly would disagree with him. I know many LGBTQ people who are beautiful, kind, helpful to their neighbors, and outcasts of society. Many even believe in God. They are closer to the embodiment of Jesus and what he preached than this man who holds judgement, who doesn’t see goodness or beauty in people who he likely doesn’t even know.
The “Christian” society, government he speaks of is not for all. This country was founded on religious freedom and it should remain that way. There’s a reason to separate church and state and this is a perfect example. You don’t shun or try to quiet ones that don’t think or believe like you just to live in this country.
Everyone should have a seat at the table and when you start throwing in church beliefs and doctrine in government it is no longer the principles to which this nation was founded This is not his America, it belongs to all. That includes Athiest, Agnostic, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhist , Christian, Folk Religions, etc.
That goes back to the first amendment of the constitution. The government should have no power to influence its citizens toward or away from a religion. Also, the Constitution of the United States does not mention God anywhere.
Thanks Tim for your hard work. I know you take a lot of heat but it’s so important.

While Wolfe talks about Romans 13 in the US context, I wonder if that is applied globally? Who's in charge of Iran, who's in authority in Afganistan, who's in authority in Finland, etc. I wonder if CN could onlly pick 10 chapters it the Bible to read, which 10 out of them all would they choose.

Are you aware that for the most part, slavery in the Bible was a form of debt? Many slaves were also prisoners of war, and was not race based. In other words, the slavery in the Bible was not the same as the slavery in the antebellum South.

I’m curious if the guest has done anything in his field while looking at the factions of the first centuries bce/ce. I would think political propaganda should be easily found for the entire Mediterranean region and EuroAsia regions. You typically have a rough understanding of Roman power structures, but the smaller factions within it would be extremely influential knowledge. The political climate, the actual climate & the everyday people tell a larger story than just a culture individually.

There's literally nothing wrong with Christian nationalism, if by that you mean:
Special treatment for christian ideals, like tax breaks for hetero marriages with kids, politicians publicly declaring their faiths and enacting laws which are entirely biblically based.
There's literally nothing wrong with that, considering all of our enemies who are enacting laws to hurt us. Since we have a voice in government it's unfair for atheists to be allowed to govern by their beliefs, SHOVING THOSE BELIEFS DOWN OUR THROATS, and to expect us not to defend ourselves with the law.

    • @helenr4300

But it is okay for you to shove your beliefs down other people's throats? CNs would also exclude swathes of other christians, because they are based on mainly one interpretation. Yes we can all lobby and vote for policies according to our values, but CN argues for a theocracy and we see how that goes where there are already theocracies in our world - oh but that's different because Muslims? The same rhetoric is heard, women are a dangerous temptation so must cover up; they don't need an education; punish people for saying anything those in charge consider blasphemy - even when from fellow believers, because they are the wrong type. All of what we see in practice elsewhere has been stated by people in the CN movement.
Question - What if US did become a theocracy, but lets say it is Episcopalian, and any critique of the liturgy gets you in jail. You have to submit to your local bishop, if you are not in church on Sunday you don't have a job on Monday..... How would you feel if you are independent evangelical?
Maybe because we have been there centuries ago, that western europe and myself as a Brit cannot see any good in CN. Yes it may fill a few pews in fear but not reach hearts in faith.
I get that changes are scary -
'When you are accustomed to privilege; equality feels like oppression'
People aren't taking away your rights by asking for rights for themselves. But it does mean not being automatically at the front of the queue. And those seeking rights do not want to take away yours; but they do want to take away the rights of the powerful to oppress them.
What is a Christian Nation anyway? You suggest special rights for christian ideas; tax advantages and government making Biblically based decisions.
Okay I would support these Biblically based ideas -
Jesus telling off the religious people for rules that oppress the vulnerable
Jesus spending time with the outcast and excluded.
Teaching about care for widows and orphans - even the strangers(foriegners) among you
      Feed the hungry
      bring healing to the body
      freedom for the oppressed
But that would look very different to the faith that CNs promote

Do you support tax payer support for evolution? If you do, how do you reconcile that support with the Bible? if you don't, does that make you "Christian Nationalists"?

Do you support male domination with women & children a secondary class of human, not even counted as people in society, just property or banning the story of David who loved one man above all women?
Do you support mandatory vasectomies to be reversed when the man is ready to father a child to eliminate unwanted pregnancy?
Do you support the banning of the book of Joseph, because of his coat (which in the Hebrew is the same word as a high lady’s robes)?
Do you support Jesus’s family fleeing through open borders to live?
On evolution, a wise individual knows & understands the opposing views on a subject as good as their own, so the more things learned the better prepared & putting our taxes into better education for all is a good thing.
The Bible has atrocious societal law. It was created to be a spiritual guide for individuals & a cultures laws & myths from the Bronze Age. The Bible is not to govern nations, it’s to govern souls. If you need a Bible verse to follow then choose “Love they neighbor” & let god do the judging.
Not being in support of the issues you put forth doesn’t make you a Xian nationalist. Thinking that being Xian gives you the right to govern society by means of spirituality that excludes other humans who do not think as you do is Xian nationalism. A form of bigotry towards any except your own chosen group.
