I just want to say that this video sold me on majoring in Supply Chain Management four years ago as a high school senior. I’m now about to graduate college and start working as a supply chain project manager for a well-known retailer. Thank you to Arizona State and the W.P. Carey School of Business for the inspiration! I highly recommend this video to anyone who’s interested in the field.
@@Mr.hyde1886 It’s worked out great! I haven’t had a single day where I regret going down this path. Can’t recommend SCM enough. What I loved about majoring- and now working- in SCM is that you’re working with almost every part of the business on a daily basis, depending on what role you’re in (engineering, marketing, data, finance). Really gives you a broad knowledge that sets you up for the rest of your career. The one piece of advice I’d add is to get a minor/certificate/anything in Data Analytics. I use SQL and Power BI on a daily basis, and I think having that on my resume in college gave me an advantage. Let me know if there’s any other questions you have; I’d love to help however I can.
@@Mr.hyde1886 It’s going great! Haven’t had a single day that I’ve regretted going down this path. What I loved about majoring- and now working- in supply chain is that I deal with business partners from nearly the entire business on a daily basis (engineers, data, marketing, finance, sales/accounts). It really helps build a well-rounded knowledge to set you up for long-term success. I’d also recommend getting a minor/certificate/anything in data science. I use data on a daily basis in my role (SQL, Power BI) and it helps complement the SCM major.
This guy can make anything sound interesting and easy to learn. This is where procrastination got me and I do not regret it. It beats working on my English class journals
I watched this video about 7 years ago to learn what supply chain management is. I just got my Masters Degree in Integrated Supply Chain Management. Thank you so much for simplifying SCM for all of us!
Update: I’ve been a procurement manager for a large technology company for 4 years now. This video assisted in giving me a very fulfilling career. Thanks again!
Product cost not being equal to material cost really is commonly misunderstood by many consumers. This is one of the most thorough explanations about supply chain and how the various costs will be added to the product cost.
I haven't finished this video yet, and I love it already. I would be so great if you could do a video for every industry. I think the graphic representation of every term at the right hand side helps a lot for all visual learners.
Arizona State may be known for their extra-curricular activities (a.k.a. partying), but this is one of the best subject intro videos I have seen and an excellent tutorial on SCM for novices (and upper executives). Bravo!
This was concise, short and sweet. As a professional bilingual Buyer with twenty years experience working in Marine Technoogy, I really see the visualization of this being very beneficial. Kudos...
no top comment? why isnt my lecturer and tutor in class this informative? i spend 3 hours in a lecture, and this guy explained it better and more effectively in 8 minutes. I want to go to this university. Arizona ftw
I see a comment about what kid grew up dreaming of being involved in supply chain management and honestly that kid was me. I watched this video in the 6th grade at 12 and from then I decided this is what I want to be a part of. I was lucky enough to get into a high school where I had a major/shop titled logistics where I learned about it for four years. Then I went to college for supply chain management. As of now I’m 20 and I’m a senior entering my last year of college with honors and I will graduate a year before my original class of 2022 (now I’m class of 2021 . I don’t think I’ve been impacted more deeply by anything else up to date. I truly have a passion for the field.
@@user-qy6tu9ip9v it really complies so much and applies varying roles like supply chain analyst, supply chain planner, working in buying/procurement (buying either goods for the company to sell/use for customers/use to help the company like machinery or even office goods) operations (warehousing, distribution, transportation etc) I’ve worked in manufacturing/ construction, operations and now buying all very different roles that aim to focus on getting the right goods to the right people at the right time and at the right price point
This was a very interesting way to keep the viewer entertained all the while and not making this sound like a boring story. good use if the animations. great work.
Outstanding! I'm currently working on my undergrad degree in logistics management and this video is better and more understandable than anything I have learned so far.
This was an amazingly easy to understand video! It makes it so easy even though many of my fellow business students (including me) often forget the core ideas of SCM!
I have learnt more in this video about SCM than in my 5 year career of supply chain .. In offices we dont learn about supply chain , we learn how to do processes , transactions without as much as less errors like robots ..
I take online classes, this week topic is Supply chain management for e-commerce. This helps me understand what SCM is, now I can apply this "e-commerce style" to effectively improve this process efficiently. thank you~
Can't wait for the related new series of modules, such as Supply Chain Mismanagement, Government-Induced Supply Chain Disruption, and Profits Over Country
Well done. Accidental Found I have watched all 12 Modules. It describes the dry stuff better than most of our german movies. The only points to stop is by check up some english word unknown
I have ADHD - ENTP-A with a Military / Technology / Communications / Trucking / Aviation / and Security experience. This is a wet dream career come true. I can't wait to finish my degree.
Thank you so much for adding some humor to this subject matter. I just started a class in Operations Management and we're going over supply chain. It's a pretty easy concept to grasp but you broke it down in ways that I would have never thought to. I'll be looking out for more of your videos and pass the word on about your manner of instruction. (It's not boring at all and sometimes the humor allows you to embrace the concepts better. I wish more professors could understand that...) Anyway, thanks again and keep up the good work.
Supply chain management (SCM) is the broad range of activities required to plan, control and execute a product's flow, from acquiring raw materials and production through distribution to the final customer, in the most streamlined and cost-effective way possible.
Such a great video! I learned so much about Supply Chain Management, and everything that goes into the price of products. I would have never guessed that my $1.50 contributed to the paycheck of a forklift driver!
I learned more in this video series than in all of my marketing courses
Haha, I totally agree with you..
Me too Bro
Thats sad
That's because marketing courses are a waste of time. Do you know who Edward Bernays is? If not, you should ask your college for your money back.

An excellent explanation, hands-on, relatable, engaging, funny - even 10 years later. Thanks for sharing!
The Best Introductory Tutorial I have seen till now ! Thanks a lot...! The way you explained was incredible.

U study supply chain management?
i learned more about cold chains important thanks
"Welcome to SCM. Where all your childhood supply chain dreams are about to come true" LOL Gonna use that line with my students :D
The speaker is Professor Davila and he teaches all the SCM 300 classes. Great class, made me change to SCM.

Louis B i don't have a math background but i want to do my masters in supply chain management. Is it going to be difficult for me?
Eric Ninsson no, you will be fine. Math isn’t the core of SCM overall.

For those of you wanting to switch careers and have this in mind: DO IT!! SCM is the future and will only grow bigger and bigger and more profitable
It has clarity and is focused on deconstructing what SCM is in order to show the sum of its parts. Great job!!
