I believe the high mileage of a maker shows on projects like this - how one steers clear of challenges and picks the right trade offs. Masterfully executed as always Jimmy!

Hey Jimmy, little trick I’ve learned from staining leather for years: dampen the leather first, like you did before making the impression. The moisture in the leather will help the stain disperse more evenly and you won’t get the streaking.

If you use a magnet for the opening, you can get rid of the stud in the lid, and the strap should lay nicely. :)

Question: Why not dye the leather before you cut and assemble it? All the leather work that I've done has been with latigo leather, which is already finished - all I had to do was finish the edges.

Well said. That prevents two problems: uneven stains in the leather and helps prevent the glue from sticking to surfaces to which it does not belong.

@JimmyDiresta I love your videos! So well explained! You make it look so easy when I know it's hard work. Your creativity never ceases to inspire me and I thank you.
When I work with stiff fabric I was using the plier trick as well but I found the pliers have a tendency to slip of the needle occasionally. I resolved this issue with an awesome product from the jewellery industry called "tool magic " it's a little jar of wet silicone type substance. The night before the project (I also make costume jewellery), I dip the plier jaws in the solution and hang them jaw up on the rim of a solid mug (so it doesn't tip over) over night to cure. This allows it to evenly coat the jaws and cure. It takes on the shape of the pliers. It will give you a better grip on slippery metal components without damaging the pliers or the components. It peels off easily. Planning ahead for which tools you need will save you frustration in the procedure of stitching.
I would love to see you make something leather with Swarovski crystals! They are high end crystals. Perhaps a jewellery box with crystals on the lid in the shape of the recipients name or simply trim.
    I miss your videos

That is a really cool project! Love the way the you did the pattern for embossing the leather. Your creativity always amazes. I wonder if the wood pattern would last if it was used over and over? Would a pattern made from acrylic be durable enough to use repeatedly? Just thinking that this process would work for hat patches or anything else someone would want to put a patch on. I have so many ideas racing through my head right now! Love your channel and the myriad processes you engage in to do your work. Very inspired. Thank you!!

This is spectacular! Particularly love your use of that steel bar as an "anvil" for installing your rivets. Is that bar shaped the same on both ends? If so, it might be useful to grind a rounded bit on one end for when you're doing this kind of thing. Would give you some flexibility I'd think. Cheers!

probably most famous in world leatherwork: the Italians. However, a socialist gov't came in , the Chinese jumped in and bought all the companies, then imported illegal china labor, the quality suffered, Italians protested, and i think brand Fendi or similar was a major issue in the fashion world globally, the downfall of quality......

i usually dye the leather beforehand, and dilute it 50/50 with IPA. that way it goes on more evenly and also you can control the shade more as you can do multiple passes without it getting too dark.

I think even though the d-rings are below centre, any weight in the purse will offset that. I do like those rivets too to save sewing the straps and d-rings on. I really enjoyed the build 😊

  • @yassinkurdi5279

Nice work. I think if you sew a little the piece that holds the belt it will prevent the whole body from rotating around the two rivets.
Another thing, I thought you were married and you had a family and you were stable.

I love your videos! I work with leather and your ways of solving leather working problems is a fresh take and i always like watching. My construtive critique is to use a stitch groover before you punch hole. This makes your stitch line look better gives you a guide as well as burries the thread in the leather so i doesnt snag. Love the videos keep them up!

  • @whazee
    @whazee 4 месяца назад

Its a great bag and a lot of annoying stitching! 😄
If it was me, i would consider measuring and pre-punching all the holes, then stitching as i go without glue, or glueing a little at a time. You could also work from both sides (if you dont mind all the threads getting in the way)
Might not make it any easier, but it's an idea.
