Whoever took those pictures from the 60s early 70s deserves an award. So unbelievably HD for the time
so many wonderful memories from my childhood, and reliving those Christmas memories with my children. those were the days my friend....
this place was amazing...I was there every weekend with my grand parents...I saw my first movie in that theater, threw pennies in the fountain, spent afternoons at ladbrooks with my grandfather. I remember when the place was on its last leg, I was about 9 years old when Wards closed their doors and I still recall the last time I walked through the mall, it was like saying goodbye to a part of my childhood.
I can relate I spent a lot of time with my grandparents there too and also used to watch movies there. I was born in 1978 so the 80s there was my childhood.
This was Nice, I remember the days. My Dad worked on the paving there before it was built. Have many Memories there, from the Sunday vets in the lot, teaching others to drive while it closed, taking the kids to the events on Christmas, standing in a long line for tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert after it sold out the first day and even meeting my wife there. So many good People that I shared with there are gone now, but the memories are still alive.
it's a real shame they had to tear down the mall. I remember the good old days back in 1970s plus I remember the good memories there when I was in grade school and riding the train around Christmas time.
Greengate Mall was the Greatest Mall ever
Phyllis Smith. hi Phyllis. I remember going to green gate mall back in 1970s when me and my brother were little and we rode the train around Christmas time. it sure brought back the good old days.
Phyllis Smith yes, yes it was.
We always took our kids there in the early nineties for the easter and xmas trains...they always decorated nice. They also had several local shops, something totally gone in todays Mall environment
Beautiful Mall Best Stores
Brought back some memories of the 80s spending time there with my grandparents. Life was nicer and more simpler. Thanks for sharing
Sad day when this mall shut down. Loved riding train when I was a kid. They did great decorations at Christmas time.
This is the saddest video I’ve ever seen. Until we meet again Greengate Mall
Miss it beautiful Memories ❤️❤❤❤
Thanks for the memories. Used pay four bits to take the bus to the mall. Best Christmas decorations by far.
it sure was the best mall in Greensburg. I remember being there at gree gate mall back in the 1970s when I was in grade school. those were the better days.
when i was in high school we hung out at this mall ...shit im getting old
I saw myself in the photo from Hands Across America
Loved it when it was Christmas time. So touching too. Thanks so much.
I used to work at the Waldenbooks at this mall.
Westmoreland Mall took all their business because it was in a more traveled area, Route 30 directs traffic not only between Latrobe and Greensburg but also to Ligonier. I miss Greengate Mall, I used to go there all the time.
Man, so many memories.. As a kid, I remember '90s Greengate, my last visit to that mall had to have been in '99 or 2000. I remember my grandmother would always call Lazarus Hornes and I couldn't figure out why until she gave me a small history lesson. We used to shop at the Giant Eagle next to this location before it moved up the street. And yes, I rode the train once or twice. One of my favorite things was the candy shop and there was a pretty cool train shop in the late '90s.
It's a shame they tore down green gate mall. they shouldn't never had done that. every body had good memories there when they were kids.
I shut off the escalators in the Horn's store when I was (7) years old !
Freaked out my Grandma big time!
I'm glad I got to enjoy and actually remember that mall when it still had a full spark..nothing like a walmart and chain of plazas to cover what was once beautiful!..I have plenty of pictures from early and mid 90s growing up at that mall..back when you was able to smoke in every store you went to lol I remember my mother smoking in alot of stores then eventually only food courts..was gone by time no smoking In any place
Memories
I so remember riding that train I'm sure I have I picture of me in it somewhere
I miss Greengate Mall. Remembering the Arcade on the top floor and the big cage with birds.( Mid 1970s) Behind the Mall was Tingles, A bank and a movie theater.
There was a nightclub behind the mall called "Tingles"...probably renamed quite a few times! Haha!
This is absurd, 50+ years ago, i have no idea why when I was born in 2008, i get incredible nostalgia for some reason.....
@jkick33 Monoreville mall went down hill, it was nice back then, they had the ice rink, the fountain trees and ponds, the clock, along with kaufmanns, now they renovated the place and removed several of the malls features and many of the stores closed and were replaced. I miss the old monroeville mall. CBL messed it up
Dawn of the dead was filmed there...
My grandfathers blue packard. He took it there many times.
@loner121777 yeah, they have 53 vacant stores, monroeville has about 16. Ross park is properly doing the best right now.
i use to come from indiaana to shop here. i remember the far east shop that was oriental an the old murphys . what memories thanks polywog690 indiana,pa.
I remember there being a flea market on the hill after the mall was destroyed or near the end of the mall's time
I want those dinosaur statues so bad
Westmoreland Mall is just awful compared to Greengate.
but its still there
Wow this is a cool video thanks for posting. I drive past hear every day to go to SHU. This mall looked nice but I was far too young to remember any of it, I was there a few times though. It is rebuilt very nice though, nice new restaurants, gamestop, petstore where my dog goes to the vet every year, it's nice. But it doesn't have that mall feeling. :(
Westmoreland Mall, its kinda dumpy there now. Monroeville Mall is a sad sight, it's losing alot of stores and going down hill.
Beautiful Christmas memories ps hated the Escalator
The sad part about this great mall is that it killed the main street shopping in the small towns around it. They never recovered. Sort of like Amazon is doing today. BTW Proms were held here. Wonder if anyone has pictures.
😢
wish it was still there and not what is there now
I used to go to the under 21 club the mall was shutdown by then but the slushy machine kiosk was still there that was before sideshow pizza moved down 30 and became club extreme
It's always sad to see old places go but I must say this video would be better if you showed a pic of the new Greengate Centre at the end. RIP Greengate Mall
Why do they have to destroy something that took so long and so much endeavor to build? Doesn't make sense.
This is a tribute to real estate moguls, who when the economy tanked, took their millions, and left the poor to stand cry over an empty parking lot.
✌️😎
Yeah. The place is gone now and replaced with a Walmart.
Every other Wednesday I’d get picked up by my dad and we’d spend the evening here. I still remember where all the kid important stores were located (KB toys, the food court, the arcade) they had the best arcade. Diary of a latchkey kid.
What song is that
Does anyone remember the pet shop bird that talked to you he was great
If anyone has pictures of tge inside of the dance club post them
I know it's a longshot, but does anyone remember the name of the mall restaurant that featured a big wall mural? I think the mural was of a French cafe or bistro.
Thanks.
Was it the soup and sandwich restaurant , or Sweet William's?

I hate Monroeville mall now its no good now.
