    During the 1972 WCC cycle, Bobby Fischer won 20 straight FIDE-rated classical games against titled opponents, a feat that has never been matched since. But here, Carlsen finished with 20 straight bullet chess wins against titled opponents. Very impressive.

    Only Jerry commentating Carlsen can persuade me to watch an entire two-hour vid.

    • @Athinira

      Carlsen was streaming. I've noticed before that his playing strength suffers when he does that, because he has trouble handling talking and playing at the same time.
      Last titled arena he had an 86% winrate compared to this times 75%.

    Magnus Carlsen went on a tear at the end! 19 wins in a row and if you consider the very last game that they started with 1:07 left on the clock, but the opponent took a few seconds to decide to resign and it went over the time limit as a result, that would be 20 wins in a row. Impressive!

    26:31
    Wow, stuff like this amazes me. How quickly Carlsen assesses this position, calmly responds with Be5. Amateur like myself sees this as very dangerous, cause I can't see everything so quickly. The queen and bishop diagonals, off-side rook cause of the mate threat..... Wow.

  • @1998marijn1998
    @1998marijn1998 6 лет назад +34

    It's almost cheating to start a new account.
    CleverTacticButFail has some 'easy' wins in the beginning compared to his real rating. See around 2:09, Tang started at 1500? rating. He even beserked a couple of the first games to get more points. I'd say it is an exploit and those few points could very well have determined the outcome (which equals winning $2500 or $500!). Lichess should have the requirement of at least ~10-20 ranked matches in order to play this arena.

    • @Athinira
      @Athinira 6 лет назад +7

      Not really. It does place you really fast. However, you shouldn't be able to berserk until your rating is determined, to avoid easy extra points against weak opponents.

    • @1998marijn1998
      @1998marijn1998 6 лет назад +14

      I just found out that only the first game is based on rating, the rest is based on tournament place. So then it doesn't really matter, except that beserking the first game shouldn't be allowed.

    136:52 This is bugging me so much, I paused the video to pay attention to what happened because it didn't look right to me, why did Magnus take knight with his queen rather than the pawn, was it that he wanted the queens off? It seemed good to me to still have the queen there forcing black to move his rook on A8 which would have given white another move for free so to speak. Can somebody explain what I'm missing?
    Edit: I watched it further and thought about it more, a lot more than I'd like to admit. I'm not good at chess but love to watch and I've gotten a lot better at the analysis since watching all of these very interesting videos. Anyways, when Jerry says that's a nice inbetweener is the position where I think I figured it out. To put it simply, if Magnus doesn't exchange queens then move his bishop to the spot the queen previously occupied but instead he takes with the pawn, then immediately after his knight is captured black would simply move his A8 rook and win one of Magnus' rooks in the fork whereas this other line removes queen for queen, rook for rook and leaves doubled pawns from originally a nasty fork. If that's right I'd like somebody to tell me, if that is the case it's really crazy how fast Magnus calculated his way out of that trap which otherwise would have been game ending!
    Edit 2: Gah I just realized I had something out of order because black still has time to move the rook before it's taken with the bishop he just chooses to save his own bishop from the 1st rank rook instead so with that being said why did he take with the queen, he could have done everything the same with pawn takes and had a much better queen than black?

      Finally finished the game and this seems too well calculated from no time at all. Obviously, it worked out tremendously well for him so I guess that gives me my answer.

      Cole Goodchild That's surprising, his rating is on the low side for a GM but he gave Carlsen a run for his money. A bullet beast I guess

      TheOpinionatedPerson check out their bullet duels. Tang had like 40% win rate against Carlsen with 150 ish games

    Its pretty clear that Carlsen was trolling everyone. I was fooled. I thought the mighty World Champ was really having a bad day, but no. He crushed everyone when he wanted to.
