Congratulations to all the winners. The aquascapes were amazing! Thank you to ADA for the amazing competition. To those who did not rank, next year; don't give up. Take care.
Outstanding! Many were surprising. World Ranking #1 and #2 are unlike any I have ever seen. I am not, however, an iconoclast. I am a classicist and there is one tank which took my breath away. My favorite APLC2022 entry is... World Ranking #5, by Trung Phan of Vietnam! It is a heavenly cloud. I bow to Mr. Phan. You are a master.
I think Matthew's entry this year is an iteration of his previous work(rank 5, 2021) which then he improved upon. He literally used the same type of rock for this entry, he really must've loved the concept behind it.
People who are not satisfied in the rankings are those who do not understand the mechanics of judging. There are 2 phase - 1st and 2nd screening, so that there will be a thorough evaluation of each tank and the overall score combined will determine their ranking. Each of us have our own taste , and so does the judges, that's why each judge will pick their own " best aquarium" . However, there are many beautiful tanks in here , thats we've seen in the previous years only changing the tank title . Other tanks , even more beautiful than those in the higher spot , were just the remake of their old tanks. No more wow factor.
I've had the honor of visiting Matthew's home gallery last year... needless to say that his works are really out of this world. What an amazing artist.. Congrats on winning the grand prize, you deserve it!
@@sdqsdq6274 Hi, sorry if it took me a year to reply. Slates are actually very cheap here in the Philippines. You could buy an entire sack of it for like 3 to 6 USD. Whereas, a single huge Seiryu stone could cost upwards of 3 to 6 usd. It's a huge price difference.
There are 10 points allocated for the view of nature, but the nature aquarium that Mr. Amano came up with should have the most points allocated. The recent IAPLC is lonely because only works with a large visual impact have come to the top. 自然観の配点が10点になってるけど天野さんが想ってたネイチャーアクアリウムっていうのはここが1番配点大きいはず 見た目のインパクト大きい作品ばかり上位にきてて最近のIAPLCは寂しい
I agree with this. We will never see again an Iwagumi tank in the Top 20. There is no longer the quiet stillness of Mr. Amano. The closest this year is World Ranking #5, by Trung Phan of Vietnam. Stunning, but not an Iwagumi.
@@davidhunternyc1 An Iwagumi by Haruji Takee was rewarded fairly highly with 30th place. If it had been planted more interestingly and had grown in fully it would have clearly ranked higher. But yes I do agree that subtlety and sense of nature need to be rewarded more highly.
@@glasscanvasart5273 Agree about Haruji's tank not optimizing plant growth. His tank is beautiful but, even so, I doubt it would break into the top 20.
I deeply understand this sentiment, that being said... I believe that the best way for the craft to grow is to innovate, explore new boundaries, and move forward. Just my two cents.
Sobrang proud here!!! teary eyed pa talaga aq while watching. Yung minsang nkachat q for inquiring aquaplants dahil kalugar q sa paranaque malayo na narating sa aquascapes. Congrats sir matthew!! More ideas and designs to come...
Agreed , I am sure that the majority of the contest entries would have no trouble in making a video and a backup video showing the start date and the empty aquarium & plant list / hardscape / livestock etc. Entries are sent a package containing hand written regulations & contest guidelines etc. The more transparent the better for the future and I know that 2023 is not far away ⏳️🖼
Quote from Mr Amano in Takashi Amano nature aquarium complete works 1985-2009. "ADA holds the International Aquatic Plant Layout Contest every year. Every entry is the result of hard work, but there are some that appear overly technical. They might have employed too many techniques because they were created for the sake of the contest. However, I personally do not like a layout that does not look like a comfortable place for fish. I have been producing Nature Aquarium layouts for a long time. Some people criticize that I have run out of ideas and images or that all of my works have the same old pattern. I respond to such remarks by telling them, "Are you kidding? There is no such thing as the same old pattern in nature." Many a layout can be created by varying the design of the appearance, but if it departs from its essence, doing so is like overlooking the forest for the trees. I hope to keep on creating layouts that seem to truly recreate nature, and hopefully in a much larger aquarium that I have never experienced before in my life." We have to go back to the roots!
I'd like to see a little shipwreck in one of these...har har har!. It's so funny none of the entries look anything in a natural environment. Oh well, all in good fun.
Can't wait to see the artworks you've created this year! Good luck to all!
