Great episode! My first one and I quite enjoyed it. I wanted to add a quick comment on one of the panels. On the page where Sentry destroys Ares that last panel to the right is pure brilliance. What strikes me most about it is the summation of the story. The “fuzzy” bottom and top is indicative of the chaos going on in the battle… but in the midst of all of that chaos one thing is very clear: The Sentry and what he is capable of (eradicating a god). So perfect.
I've been inking for 33 years and there's a definite decline in using inkers. I had 7 years at the big two but it was a time when they both cut down on books, so timing. I do ink over pencils I print out myself a lot more. I am shifting into penciling more, after all originally I inked to get my foot into the door.
It is legitimately true. No one is on top of Coipel. That’s just a fact. I respect Ed mcguinness and Steve mcniven, but even they don’t have the lighting, character acting and composition of coipel
Define fun. I get the sense that Gibbons had a great time. Was he thinking "Wow cool. A dirty kitchen"? No. But I don't get the sense that Gibbons didn't enjoy it. I think Coipel's storytelling often falls down. House of M combines the worst of both Bendis and Coipel with splashes that you can't tell read as spreads. The page you discussed at length is a great idea but all the information you need (Balder etc) is on the left. So you go to the bottom of left page, up to the top right of the right page then back to the start. I think it's beautiful but wonky storytelling. I love Coipels work though. Also worth mentioning that he started as a total Charest fan and they have similar strengthes and weaknesses.
I disagree! I don't think the perspective in that splash shot of Asgard is incorrect. The buildings in the foreground are on a different hill or plane than those in the background. The landscape/terrain has changed giving the foreground buildings a different point of view.
Love the videos, but I gotta say for such long videos, that little pre intro bit is kinda not required. Since its such a long video it would be better without that little montage and I assume it would save whoever is editing a bit of time
10:57 Funny, I think Mark’s inking is lifeless and boring. And I like tight inks the likes of Tim Townsend can do. But Mark’s ink drain the life out of pencils to me.
Inkers. Who's left? Janson doesn't ink anymore, Sinkiewicz and PCR neither. Jesse Delperdang is gone. Karl Story?? Scott Hanna, Tim Townsend, Scott Williams, Victor Olbaza (Ramos'), Sandra Hope, Dexter Vines, Mark Morales, Karl Kesel, Mark Farmer, Wade VonGrawbadger. God it's a bit sad. I might have to stop complaining about there being no Eisner
It’s good that Bill Sienkiewicz as well as Kevin Nowlan are both incredibly well-rounded artists - arguably even better than some of the pencilers whose works they inked - so it’s no surprise that they still are actively working in the industry doing covers now and then. Scott Williams is a combo of great talent and luck, lucky for being attached by the hip of one Jim Lee, and their tandem still does a few covers each month and are now working on a new Batman monthly run (a sequel to Hush). Also, a single sale of an original Lee+Williams page or cover is about 5 rookie artists’ pay for a full 20-page comic so at least Williams is doing good. Wade Von Grawbadger I miss a lot. I saw him ink an artist’s work a few years back, but Stuart Immonen’s retirement (or semi-returement) definitely hurt WVG’s career.
I love Coipel's ART!
Haha, us too! Thanks for watching!

Loving the channel and a great dive into Coipel’s art. I love his work. You’re picking some great comic book artists to look at

Well said! It’s clear a lot of thought went into that double page spread.
Thanks, and Welcome! So glad you like the episode.
Agreed, Coipel is great with The Fog of War, and the radiating power of stillness.

Great one guys !
Pleasant surprise! Olivier is one of my top fave artists!

7 years is a good run! Great to hear that you’re shifting over. Any relation to that famous former inker that shares your last name?
This channel is God Tier
As someone who can’t do any of this, I just watch in awe
You've gone click baity in your titles. I get it. Not negative at least. I hope it works to get eyes on your great show
Haven’t they all been click baity? 😉 Maybe this one is the least subtle! Haha
@@inkXscribe This is the first that doesn't include the name of the artist. I assume this place searches descriptions as well as titles🤷

Great Breakdown of Coipel. Thanks for putting some focus on his work and transition from penciler to more toned work.
Great episode. He reminds me of larraz a lot too
I adore coipel his figure drawings and nudes are gorgeous studies of human anatomy

That’s such an interesting point that Charest and Coipel have similar strengths and weaknesses. That’s spot on.
Mark’s a great dude, too, fwiw.
I disagree!

You know, I’ve been considering ditching the intro and I think this comment might have swayed me in that direction. Thank you for the suggestion!
He is french, is that how you pronounce his name??
