My favorite moments from 20-year-old Shunske Sato in his 2004 Ysaye Sonatas album. I encourage you to seek out the entire album (not easy to find) as well other recordings from this supremely gifted artist!
    Eugène Ysaÿe | 6 Violin Sonatas, Op.27
    00:00 - Sonata No.2 in A minor - I. Obsession
    02:23 - Sonata No.2 in A minor - II. Malinconia
    05:31 - Sonata No.2 in A minor - III. Danse des Ombres
    09:47 - Sonata No.2 in A minor - IV. Les Furies
[Stunning interpretation and range for this movement]
    13:04 - Sonata No.5 in G major - II. Danse rustique
[I have never heard someone make such sense and magic out of this movement.]
    17:55 - Sonata No.6 in E major

Dear Daniel, could you please upload the First Sonata of Ysaye also? I'm super interested to hear what shunske does with it.
      Many thanks

Thank you, Daniel. And thank you for the donation website info. Shunske and Shuann are wonderful musicians and very humble, kind human beings. Shunske, whom I know a little more about, was clearly a child prodigy but with a mind and spirit that seems to be ever expanding and ever seeking. There are several violinists on the world stage who have achieved their fame and fortune through the conventional route of competitions, concert tours and CD releases. Shunske seems to have taken a different and (perhaps a more economically precarious) route in his quest to better understand music and stringed instruments. I won't even try to compare his skills with the so-called violin gods and goddesses because it would be like comparing apples and oranges. He has a combination of rare talent, dedication and absolute joy in his endeavors that is undminished as he has matured. Plus, he makes it look so easy (which is probably annoying to a professional violinist). IMHO we should wholeheartedly support his efforts because they keep classicl music alive and vibrant. His stint at NBS was an enormous gift to all of us and surely, he has much more to give to the world.

I agree! Shunske is supremely gifted, and a wonderfully kind human being. Thank you for posting! Take a look at his live Korngold Concerto which I posted. It is amazing

When Sato left NBS it was a very sad news for me! I wish him all his plans and dreams come true! But it is a big loss! Listening again and again to all available recordings made at the Society, very precious! Another discovery for me was Hidemi Suzuki!. His Bach's Suites among my all life favorite Daniil Shafran's, Rostropovitch, latest recording of Misha Mayski.

Thank you for sharing this supreme collection, Daniel. Indeed, Danse rustique never made more sense than here.

Bought the cds after you revealed the mystery violinist! What a gem, and how much I wish there were more recordings of the youthful him! The Grieg, encore pieces and this ysaye are simply magic🪄

check out Sato in the Bach A minor & E Major concertos....extraordinary crispness & vigor & subtlety. Puts the "Big name violin Gods" in the shadows.

    Wow!
Do you know Kerson Leong? It’s another sur-talented violonist…

When I am listening to Shunske playing the 6th Ysaye Sonata, Kerson certainly comes to mind first as their styles are somewhat similar

Supremely talented, abilities off the charts, but yet to find a musical vision in his playing. My 2 cents
