Enjoy what I believe is a spectacular performance easily on par with Heifetz!
Shunske is a dear friend of mine and I am using this with his permission.
This is from his former days, as a non-baroque violinist.

Shunske is a remarkable talent. I had the great pleasure of performing many duo recitals with him. and those were definitely some of the most memorable occasions.

Shunske must have been about 18 at the time of this concert. The voice of his violin is out of this world. He is amazing at NBS but this piece shows his mastery of the modern violin at a very young age and then some. I wonder if the world is missing out listening to him as a concert soloist but his choice was NBS. Perhaps that is also in his future. Thank you so much for sharing.

I agree! Yes, his choice. I spoke with him and he is firmly committed to his new calling.

Incredible… a dream… Heifetz+…just a wee bit more free even… emotional… great intonation… exciting phrasing… tender, full of colours… hope he comes back one day from his baroque-period which i like from him too… but I’d love to hear his tone in the classical and romantic era. I am astonished!

He has come back...playing Brahms Concerto like an elderly Joachim. Find it on RUclips and "enjoy" :)

Shunske's first CD - the 6 Ysaye sonatas - is impossible to find.
If you have access to it, could you perhaps upload it?

That's right - virtuosity is alive! And the violin sound...
If I'd not know better, I would believe that it's half a century older - as a positive!

The tone is superb! Wordless and indescribable! Just wondering, what strings does he uses 😮

@@avalchinov Certainly. I can tell by the way he articulates about pieces he plays in the interviews. He deserves more recognition and appreciation.

Fantastic player. But, i find his vibrato needs to be worked on. I have the impression he's trying to copy Heifetz, which sounds like just caricature.

What a weird reaction to such a beautiful performance. Heifetz premiered this piece, and Korngold was super pleased with his rendition. Sato sounds very much like himself here, if you compare this with his other work.

@JameSongMaker Not a weird reaction at all. I just find that his vibrato isn't very good. Listening to his performance again, I don't find it all that beautiful.
