I own this and have about 6 hrs playtime on it and have not found and unusable tone. Usable is the best way to describe this. It’s got all you need and nothing you don’t. This and the DM-2w a TU-3 are probably all I need tbh. You can get some OD to massive fuzzes and I love it for that.
I own this pedal, and it has become my main fuzz. I also have the Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz and the Keeley Tone Bender, which I think are uniquely different than the BOSS FZ-1W, but I’ve sold all my other fuzz pedals. #dogfuzz
Got it myself on a pretty randy crazy impulse purchase lol. Glad I did though : ) I effing love it! Rock my ass all night on my metal af black death strat : )
That little parlor guitar sized body but with the P90's and the full 4-knob tone/volume control layout is gorgeous! That one looks like it would be fun to play!
This is my favorite fuzz that I’ve owned. It doesn’t have that spitting gating sound that I’m really not a big fan of and it does have a hint of upper octave when I use it with the Boss OD3 which I like a lot.
Dog, your dog fuzz video is the cat's pajamas! Eyeing one of these on Reverb and am now ready to pull the trigger. Love your enthusiasm and the tones! cheers!
Well .... Boss is offending and annoying all the "cork sniffers" again 👍 ... great pedal (the Boss compact format is just my fav. too)! Fuzz was invented to make a Guitarist emulate other big band instruments ... but nowadays it's more like a wtf ... juts keep going 😛thingie I've traded in the "W" for + 4 and got the FZ-5 which is is a less smooth more "make my ears bleed" thingie ... and it will make all cork sniffers hide and scream in agony ... The FZ-1w wasn't avail last autumn ...but it defo. is on top of my "next one to buy whenever there is 200€ burning in my pocket! Thanks a lot for sharing this great pedal!
Possibly my favourite dog fuzz, it’s joined my board with several untameables. I normally love the unpredictable vintage style stuff, but I’m getting really cool sounds with this. Might actually be nice to have 2…
Thanks for including a baritone guitar in your test kit. I've got an LTD-Viper201b. I'm searching for a sort of dog fuzz that can fit in to some stoner rock but also doom. Still not completely sold on one, but this (maybe with the Rat in front) might get pretty close.
@@adammercy3588 I’m still not proficient in fuzz, I guess I’m a overdrive/ distortion guy. Unless there’s a dropped octave then I get lost in the fizzely sputter of a fuzz.
Ok, even though I’ve been playing for 50+ years, I’ve only recently begun to like fuzz. Ordered my FZ-1W today. But I gotta ask, even at the risk of sounding like a noob - what the heck is dog fuzz? I know germanium and silicon, Fuzz Face and Big Muff ( the endless iterations of each), and I’m even vaguely familiar with the Tone Bender and the Shin-Ei, but I admit that I’m at sea over dog fuzz.
@@TheGuitarGeek I did a video a few days ago about that. The amp is at medium gain, the ToneBender‘s level is at max, gain at 9 o’clock and the guitar volume poti is dialed down a little bit for more clarity. :)
Never really been into Fuzz for the very untameable nature in general. Dog Fuzz seems to give me as much ‘bite’ as I can ‘tame’ and ‘paws’ing for a second look.. 😎👍🇦🇺
I can tell ya right now that it's sick! Although I do gotta say. The much cheaper super over drive SD1 boss light yellow pedal is something I like a lil tiny bit more lol. Just my opinion. I know it's even hard to compare since over drive vs fuzz is a thing but whatever lolz. And you can find that pedal for like 30-50 bucks. About 80-100 for a modded one that comes with tube screamer stuff. Pretty sick. Get one of those if you ask me. As for this silver fuzz pedal? As good as it is. About 200 bucks kinda sucks lol. You gotta really want it. I got it on a crazed impulse purchase. But I'm quite the silly person : / lol. Good chance this pedal will be worth about 300 to 500 bucks in about 10 years after holding onto it. We'll see : )
2+ years later (dogfuzz): I am looking forward to having a 5 Boss Fuzz (5BFZ) comparison video. Thank you. And if it happens, please single coils and humbuckers. Thank you again (catfuzz)
I recently got this pedal and dig it but how are you all attaching this to your boards? Unlike old Boss pedals there’s not enough space inside to flip the backplate and of course nothing sticks to a Boss pad. Anyway let me know your technique
Hi Andy First of all, thank you for your great and informative videos. I started playing guitar again a year ago and this time I'm also taking lessons to get it right. Because I play at home I use AmpliTube 5 Max. Of course I would like to have a proper amp and pedals at some point. My question: Can I connect pedals to my interface and use them with AmpliTube? That would make it easier for me to switch sounds while playing. Greetings from Augsburg Germany
Servus Linus! Welcome to guitar! I’m glad I can help you out. Yes you can connect pedals to your interface and integrate pedals with amplitube. I’ve been meaning to make a video on this so I’ll get it done asap
Same here, struggling vs gas for the Fz1w for a year now. Totally fine w FZ-5 (the real most-versatile-fuzz-on-the-market, any place on fx chain, 3 types, twekable and well priced). Did you buy the w?
This Fuzz is the Goat, I’m loving it. Never been much a of a Fuzz person but this just seems perfect can go from mild to wild. Not overbearing if you don’t want it to be. Also Dog Fuzz
Dog Fuzz, It sounds better than the fuzz you get from the katana... I have got away with not using pedals in the past but this one looks like a must purchase for me. Thanks for the great vid

great points about the vintage/modern switch being hard to mess with. Lol maybe pinch a tight clip on there from home depot? Admit it I'm a genius!

I wasn't ready for this when released, but now I've gone back and I am very pleased with the sounds this dog fuzz is making.

What is a dog fuzz? I saw another comment say it, as well. Not familiar with the term.
That Last Nite tone was excellent!

Big sounding tiny geetar, would like to hear this fuzz with a tele style geetar
Not sure if I missed this all important detail in the video, but… DOES IT CHUG?!
I'm in love with that Maybach guitar - looks so comfortably small
It’s wonderful. The P90 pickups are great
"It's causing me to noodle"
What better compliment could be given to any pedal?
I have recently fallen into the dog fuzz rabbit hole in a big way and this one is definitely going on my shopping list, thanks Andy!
Hello mate. This fuzz surprised me! I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much
Fog duzz, finally a decent sounding fuzz thank you Boss

Dogfuzz, delicious K9 tones for Friday! Cheers Andy!
Hello what guitar is this with the p 90's ?
This fuzz is far more satisfying than dog fuzz tbh. The looks alone draw me in and the tones are right up there with the best fuzz sounds!
Better than dog fuzz! Wow, quite good then 🤗

What strat did you play in this video. Dog fuzz should be a pedal name.
Dog Fuzz…this sounds like a great consolation prize for those of us who weren’t able to get our hands on the TB-1W.
yeah, it's certainly a killer fuzz
I like that... a dog fuzz, rather than a cat fuzz. Thanks for posting from sunny NSW.
Yes Mon! Digging this DOGFUZZ!
It’s hairy for sure!
Awesome video as always! I use my ToneBender more like an overdrive or boost in my already driven amp. Sounds huge! :-)
That’s an expensive boost! I’ll try mine like that

For me it would be something from JPTRFX

"tone animals" 🤠
I'd grab one but $200 when I have a million fuzz pedals is not wide. However, I have all cat fuzz and could use a dog fuzz to tame the beast.
its not cheap but it is a forever fuzz
