The iPhone XS & XS Max are getting iOS 18, and seem to perform decently enough- assuming you're not having battery problems. Anyone using the XS right now? How's it working for you?
In my experience, aside from the battery, I don’t see a need to upgrade yet. Sure the thing is literally 5 years old but I still don’t feel that age yet. Everything is pretty smooth until you game on it. (probably the only thing that shows its age) I’ll probably consider upgrading if it starts feeling slow like the older iPhones or the features are big enough to miss out on (and yes, AI isn’t a big deal for my use case). For now, I’m pretty happy with it. Plus, the cameras on this thing are actually pretty good, actually closer to the newer ones than you might expect when given plenty of light. (compared to my friends’ iPhone 13’s and 14’s) I use it with a manual camera app for my recreational photography when my camera is dead or isn’t with me and it gets the job done, even giving me impressive results sometimes. Of course, newer iPhones will be better and easier to use, but I am pretty content with it.

I dont believe its time to upgrade yet since with a battery replacement i hope i can get it to last for a few more years. Great device
I wanted the XS Max ever since it came out, got one last November as a temporary replacement from my XR which I was in need of an upgrade. I then got a 12 Pro Max after. Despite my old XS Max which I got used having a 1% battery health decrease compared to my old XR, the battery life was actually way better.
My XS has been in use for almost 6 full years and is still a pleasure to use. I had one battery replacement three years ago and I’ll probably get another soon since I don’t follow battery best practices. I may try to use this phone for ten full years since it is the XS model… it would be kind of poetic. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
before upgrading to the 12 Pro last February, my iPhone Xs did great to me but is kinda lacking on battery life. But what I miss from it a lot is the camera’s simplicity with no overprocessing at all. Pictures are clean and sharp as intended, though i felt the need to upgrade to have night mode and ultrawide lens
Still using it since the day it came out. Battery is horrible now but it's my fault due to using it a lot while charging and not taking care of it. Very reliable phone never let me down for 6 years and going strong.
Still using the XS as well here with 256GB. Battery is indeed a bit of a problem but I carry my portable battery charger with me so it's most often not a problem. Aside from that, the phone performs really great and does not feel like a 6 year old iphone. The biggest thing stopping me from upgrading is the price. The new phones are a lot of money some I'm squeezing out every bit of performance from my XS until it's no longer usable.
Man I got some stories to tell about the iPhone XS Max in gold. It was till this day imo the most premium feel I had on a iPhone. The camera was amazing. I took so many good shot with it while I was travelling. Somebody in Istanbul stole it from me once and we went on a adventure with a local taxi driver to find it. We did eventually find it and I just started spamming the ringtone through my apple watch on my iPhone XS Max so the thief started panicking because it was so loud that anyone around him noticed and got bothered.
I got a USED iPhone XS in nearly mint condition in Jan of 2021, I got the battery changed from 3rd party in 2022 end. I truly have no reason to upgrade. It's smooth, it gets the job done and I actually spend the money to buy an M2 Air than a new phone. I will only upgrade when Apple shops shipping new OS for this (as I get really excited to enjoy the new core features) and move on to either iPhone 12/13 or 16 (if Apple Intelligence, really amazes me) and this phone will be passed on to my 17 year old nephew. Kudos to Apple for building such long lasting devices.
The 10s was my dream phone since my uncle bought it on release. I finally got mine like 3yrs later cause I wanted a budget decent phone and everything said the XS was a value for the bucks. Finally pulled the trigger on a used (almost new condition) back in 2019 and this phone has since made me a smiling man. I LOVE IT. It’s premium, gorgeous and still runs as smooth as it did back then even on ios 17.5. Goated phone and i think one of apple’s staple designs. My feelings rn is that it will EASILY last me 2-3 more years and since I’m so in love with it i’ll use it until it’s practically unusable. sidenote if you’re considering it. The battery life (even a new one that I put in) is NOT GREAT but a 20€ powerbank investment is cheap and easy sooo not so much to worry about battery wise.
I got the Xs upon its release in 2018 and its sad to me that just now (6 years later) Apple has finally came out with a phone that motivates me to upgrade: the IPhone 15 Pro. This is because previous to the 15 pro Apple has refused to make any real improvements to their newer models. But now that my IPhone is about to support for new IOS updates and the the IPhone 15 Pro has a 120hz OLED screen, a Dynamic Island, USB type C, and soon Apple Intelligence the upgrade seems worth it.
I think this is the most comfortable iPhone to hold in hand, not the max either just the 5.8” iPhone XS, it’s an astonishing phone, this is what the future was, still is. I never had one until 4-5 days ago and I’m in love.
Just switched from the 15 Pro to the XS and I regret not doing it sooner. Love the thin, rounded corners (plus, I can use it caseless without worrying cause the phones' value is around 100 dollars)
@@ayomidejoseph3740 the XS is smaller lighter and thinner, i can use it comfortably without a case and not gonna lie i kinda love the very bad battery life. i have to be present every like 1.5 hours and i love that.
i was super loyal to my XS for so long. the display was actually a downgrade going to the 11 and that phone always felt like a successor to the XR rather than the XS. as every new iphone came out, i held onto it. until the display went out. i would still be using it today and only be considering upgrading it now but the circumstances made it a much easier decision to upgrade rather than fix my phone. rip my fav phone 💔
I'm using a 512 GB Xs Max and yeah the battery-life (mine at 78%) is starting to become an annoyance. Missing the extra lenses, too. Was tempted to upgrade to the 16 but the new capture button didn't exactly blow me away...so after your re-affirming video I say: One more year!
I’ll be getting the xs soon I don’t really care for all the new phone but I do need something “newer” I have the iPhone 8plus currently lol. Still works great, had my phone (8plus) since highschool which was like 4 years ago and it’s in the best condition ever just a couples scratched. But I’ll be upgrading to the xs bc my phone is starting to become really slow now-
Hubby's still rocking his (I have a 12 mini), but we're upgrading to 16 Pros today. His battery is just forked, but otherwise the phone was working pretty well until now. Solid phone.
Bought one last year. 512gb Xs Max. The durability and battery is pretty lacking, but the performance is pretty good. Looking to upgrade to base 15 after the 16 models are launched.
Just upgraded to a 16 pro max from a day one XS max that had a cracked screen that wasn’t oem, a replaced battery that was at 76%, no Face ID, cracked camera lenses, damaged speaker and a damaged mic… Verizon offered $1000 in credit towards the upgrade and I couldn’t resist. Hopefully this one lasts a solid 5-6 years 🤞🏾
Still using it since it came out. Battery is kind of lacking now but it works. It’s strange how there’s been no real features in the new iPhones that have attracted me enough to buy a new phone. But honestly that’s mostly due to the cost. The XS Max was expensive and I’m not going to get a new iPhone every year.
I use Xs as a second device. My main device is a 14 Pro Max. I don’t see any difference between these phone irl. Except camera and battery. Performance, Screen is quite the same. Using social media, Checking e-mails , Surfing and casual gaming is the same on both. The design on Xs is superior
@@iPhoneMuseum no it’s just going to be a cool accessory to use on occasion. Thinking to mainly use it as my work phone only. I have a 13 pro max as my main.
I’m still using my XS Max. My friends joke about it being old af. It’s starting to show its age. Slowdowns using apps like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Was going to upgrade to the 16 but I think I’ll wait until a full redesign rather then a small incremental release.
Great review Josh. Can you do a day in the life review on the iPhone 8 Plus? I am still using a iPhone plus as my main device which shocks some people. However, even not getting the iOS anymore the phone is still fast and I’m a fairly heavy user. I can be running multiple apps, including TikTok, and the phone handles everything well. I did have the original battery replaced recently and when I keep the phone in low battery mode it can last quite awhile. Also, the iPhone 8 Plus to me feels better in the bulkier new iPhone pro max’s and I love having a home button. I do have a newer iPhone that use for photography and my RUclips channel but I still prefer my 8 plus. I think it’s telling that 7 year old phone can do almost everything a new $1500 dollar phone can do. You can find iPhone 8 Plus’s for around $120 American dollars. There’s a lot of people in the world still using the iPhone 8 plus. Many people simply cannot afford a new $1000.00 iPhone.
The X, XS, and 11 Pro's 5.8" Display was the perfect size. I hope they bring it back for the SE. Having an iPhone X with an A18 chip for $399 would be a great option in 2024.
My uncle still use iPhone 6 or iPhone 7 it’s tiny tiny, even in an otter case. No one can convince he needs an upgrade, he say I can call, FaceTime work, I’m gucci
Love these types of videos I have a XS that started out with 84% battery life 2 months ago and now on 79% so it’s definitely dying but it’s a great phone needs an upgrade probably next year!
Loved my XS except for its battery life (and its speed compare to my 15 Pro). I still have my XS and I gonna say, always go for more RAM on Apple products. More RAM guarantees longevity (even in Apple's standard)
Man I remembered purchasing this iPhone two years ago because I wanted to experience it, I mostly used it for “Music & photography” and it worked really great for me because the battery life was 93%, used for a year and gave it to my mom and she was happy. But I always check the battery life it’s at 88% now.
my dad still uses it in 2024. i bought it in 2022 for him. He had still an old Nokia before. He loves it and I am also very impressed by the phone it is very good looking and very relieable. And now it got IOS 18! But it will be the last latest software it will get. Very nice phone.
One year ago I bought iPhone 11 128gb from argos brand new and now battery health 100% iPhone 11 best phone and have ios17 and ios18 and im sure have ios19
Still happy with my XS. Don’t like the look of the cameras on the newer ones. But, I suppose I’ll be forced to upgrade next year when they stop support for it 😢
I purchased the XS Max launch day 2018, however the screen is starting to fail with a vertical pink line a few pixels wide on the right side of the screen. Battery life is workable, still at 87% capacity. Looking forward to upgrading to the new one this year.
I always loved the gold colour of the Xs so i upgraded my secondary phone to the Xs this year, it's so good, actually i ended up getting a good deal on the Xs Max because the face id doesn't work (i have never used this feature and hate it) I think storage capacity can cause the phone to become laggy especially if you are nearing the last 5-10GB of free storage. Mine has a new battery and lasts the entire day and sometimes even into half of the next day, though i don't do gaming so maybe that is what really affects the battery life. The Xs is definitely still a really good device to use but i would advise to get the 256GB/512GB storage model as the 64GB model is nothing especially in today's world and with a 4K camera. The speakers are so good especially when listening to music, it has become my music phone with over 9,000 songs on it.
Loved the Gold XS/XS Max. I eventually upgraded to the 13 line-up but the XS Gold is still my color released by Apple. The XR colors being my 2nd favorite Apple colors.
I’m watching this on the 10X Max right now. It works great except I am upgrading to the 16 pro Max because I have to use more tools on it for work so it is my wife and so we have to have an upgraded phone and with the support ending next year we want to be ahead of the curve. I find it interesting that the 10 X max has a larger green than just the 16 pro if you want a comparable screen, you have to go with the 16 Pro Max. The 10 X is 6.5 inches. The 16 pro is 6.3 and the 16 Pro Max is 6.9.
Using Xsmax bought it used in 2021. BH currently at 82%. Bought it at 89%. Only issue i had was about a year ago when it got into a bootloop due to full storage so had to restore phone Imo it has the best frame. Nos scratching no peeling still fresh and shiny. I also like the weight. Feels premium Was running ios 14. But due to the bootloop ws restored to ios 16. I dont update my phones cos i feel like apple intentionally slows down phones when they want to phase out. I have an iPhone 8 Plus running ios 13 smoothly. Phone is even faster than my xsmax on ios 16
Hey Josh! Could you possibly do a video in the future about the evolution of iOS? How it started, what was it like in the early days and what cool features we got over the years from iPhone 2G’s first OS all the way till now in iOS 17 (soon to be 18).
I had the XS max, amazing phone I ended up giving it to my mom after I swapped it with a new battery, I now have a 14 plus, meets my basic needs and got a great deal on it since it had poor sales lol
still use mine since release date, changed the battery a few months ago, didnt notice a difference in the battery with the new one. hope i can keep it one or two years more :)
I had the iPhone 15 pro. I ended up giving it away. I bought myself a xs max pretine condition was still on iOS 14. Using this phone until the 16 pro comes out and to be honest it’s impressive how good it is still to this day. Oled screen and smooth with a decent battery 🔋 and still supported
There is one additional hardware/cosmetic difference between the X and XS. They moved the camera bump ever so slightly, so if you put a case meant for the X on a XS its fit will be slightly off around the camera. Also I miss the notch from the XS, the Dynamic Island on recent iPhones pokes down too far and takes up significantly more useable screen space than the XS.
Loved my XS, but was under the impression that - seeing as the X lost access to the latest iOS last year - it was about to do the same when the new iPhone gets released. Therefore, when my battery needed replacing, I decided to go for something a bit newer. I need the latest iOS to pair with my Apple Watch, so I’m now using a 13 Mini, which should give me a few more years of support. Thanks for the content.
My Galaxy S23 Ultra shattered the other day so i had to send it in to Samsung to get the screen replaced... Had an XS Max as a backup... I absolutely hate closed source firmware... But i love the fluidity of iOS even without the 90-120hz displays...
Loved this phone when it was new. One of the only iPhones that I got on launch! I got the Max and have had the bigger phones since then. Love your videos! Keep being awesome dude!
2 years ago I bought a XS Max from a "trusted" refurbished seller with good reviews. Ended up having a fake screen with uneven bezels, fake battery that overheated like crazy, dust under the camera lens and a broken Face ID. Apparently that's considered "pristine condition". Be careful if you buy used!
I hope someone reads this, I currently have an iPhone SE 2022 with 64gb of storage and was looking to sell it and buy an iPhone XR with 128 storage, I will get a bigger screen, Face ID, and most importantly better battery because the SE just drains too fast. Is it a good idea?
no it isn't a good idea, the XR won't get as many years of updates as the se3, i would get atleast a used iphone 12 or even 13 if you have the money because the 13 has the same specs as the SE3. i mean the xr is still a pretty good phone but the updates are the bad thing

sidenote if you’re considering it.
My grandpa still uses an iPhone XS and it works great for him. No issues as far as I'm aware.
Just switched from the 15 Pro to the XS and I regret not doing it sooner. Love the thin, rounded corners (plus, I can use it caseless without worrying cause the phones' value is around 100 dollars)
😂 why did you downgrade, As in a very big downgrade
@@ayomidejoseph3740 the XS is smaller lighter and thinner, i can use it comfortably without a case and not gonna lie i kinda love the very bad battery life. i have to be present every like 1.5 hours and i love that.
Actually 6 years ago the XS battery life was a selling point.
i was super loyal to my XS for so long. the display was actually a downgrade going to the 11 and that phone always felt like a successor to the XR rather than the XS. as every new iphone came out, i held onto it. until the display went out. i would still be using it today and only be considering upgrading it now but the circumstances made it a much easier decision to upgrade rather than fix my phone. rip my fav phone 💔
oh let’s not forget the apple battery case bc i definitely had one of those too. lol
I'm using a 512 GB Xs Max and yeah the battery-life (mine at 78%) is starting to become an annoyance. Missing the extra lenses, too. Was tempted to upgrade to the 16 but the new capture button didn't exactly blow me away...so after your re-affirming video I say: One more year!
iPhone XS It’s still smooth as butter in 2024.
Battery is not an issue if you have the battery pack (which is also a protective case). It will make the iPhone bulkier and heavier though.
Bought one last year. 512gb Xs Max. The durability and battery is pretty lacking, but the performance is pretty good. Looking to upgrade to base 15 after the 16 models are launched.
I have a shortcut which puts it into LPM when i disconnect it from the charger, it lasts about a day at most with lpm
Is it obsolete
If you're going to get the base 15 just go wait for the Se4 release, it'll be better than the 15.
The XS its still usseles phone and its still very god phone 👌🏻
The design is still so attractive to me.
I use Xs as a second device. My main device is a 14 Pro Max. I don’t see any difference between these phone irl. Except camera and battery. Performance, Screen is quite the same. Using social media, Checking e-mails , Surfing and casual gaming is the same on both. The design on Xs is superior
my xs batt is 75% im still satisfied with it as a back up phone
Is the performance good on ft and games ?
I just just JUST bought a $90 iPhone XS 256gb 99% battery health off of eBay! Hope it goes well!
Is it your main phone?
@@iPhoneMuseum no it’s just going to be a cool accessory to use on occasion. Thinking to mainly use it as my work phone only. I have a 13 pro max as my main.
I bought Just $14
@@studyprocess7718 huh
@@studyprocess7718😂😂
Pls do a video Xs performance after installing iOS 18
I’m still using my XS Max. My friends joke about it being old af. It’s starting to show its age. Slowdowns using apps like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Was going to upgrade to the 16 but I think I’ll wait until a full redesign rather then a small incremental release.
I gave my XS max to my niece last year, after being used by my wife. As my 5s my niece is still using is still working.
My dad has been using the iPhone XS Max since launch, just had a new battery fitted and runs fine, although he’s upgrading this September
Sold mine and upgraded long ago but it stil remains my favorite design ever.
i just bought it XS gold with 256gb and battery above 85% with the newest IOS 18 update 😎 from my mom as secondary phone for only 80$
Still have one of these, after 5.5 years, though could do with battery replacing (service), best iPhone I've had to be fair .. has really lasted well.
Still using my 11 love it doing great for me and just fine next year I will get the 13 pro
My best favorite iPhone designs are the iphone 5s , XS , 14 pro , they’re so beautiful ❤
my dad still uses it in 2024. i bought it in 2022 for him. He had still an old Nokia before. He loves it and I am also very impressed by the phone it is very good looking and very relieable. And now it got IOS 18! But it will be the last latest software it will get. Very nice phone.
One year ago I bought iPhone 11 128gb from argos brand new and now battery health 100%
iPhone 11 best phone and have ios17 and ios18 and im sure have ios19
Only issue i had was about a year ago when it got into a bootloop due to full storage so had to restore phone
Imo it has the best frame. Nos scratching no peeling still fresh and shiny. I also like the weight. Feels premium
Was running ios 14.
Assistive touch can be assigned 2 tasks (long press & 3D touch) 7:36
out of all colors of all the iphones, my favorite one is definitely this xs rose gold
I had the XS max, amazing phone I ended up giving it to my mom after I swapped it with a new battery, I now have a 14 plus, meets my basic needs and got a great deal on it since it had poor sales lol
The gold on the 10s max is just beautiful
still use mine since release date, changed the battery a few months ago, didnt notice a difference in the battery with the new one. hope i can keep it one or two years more :)
just upgraded to a 16 pro max from my xs max. i miss that phone already
Why?
@@blurrysmokes6216lmao I was thinking the same thing
There is one additional hardware/cosmetic difference between the X and XS. They moved the camera bump ever so slightly, so if you put a case meant for the X on a XS its fit will be slightly off around the camera.
Also I miss the notch from the XS, the Dynamic Island on recent iPhones pokes down too far and takes up significantly more useable screen space than the XS.
My main phone is a 13 pro max but I’m using my xs max as we speak to watch RUclips while the other one charges lol still using it to this day 🎉
Just wanted to say this was a great video 🎉
iPhone XS Gold , my favorite iPhone, tied with 6S gold
Loved my XS, but was under the impression that - seeing as the X lost access to the latest iOS last year - it was about to do the same when the new iPhone gets released. Therefore, when my battery needed replacing, I decided to go for something a bit newer. I need the latest iOS to pair with my Apple Watch, so I’m now using a 13 Mini, which should give me a few more years of support.
Thanks for the content.
I love my iPhone XS, and if I upgrade, I'll always miss 3D touch and the perfect design and size.
i like my XS max, but i also mostly just use it for music at this point and its perfect for that, even with 82% left on the battery.
This was the best feeling design in the hand. Even the 15 line up can’t compare.
I have two for backup phones and I must say iOS 18 beta is working like a champ on them
My Galaxy S23 Ultra shattered the other day so i had to send it in to Samsung to get the screen replaced...
That was the last iphone i had before moving to samsung galaxy. I miss it a lot.
The gold XS Max is an absolute beauty
imo the gold and silver xs' look cheaper then the space gray ones, but everyone has his own opinion
Still using my XS Max. Replace the battery and you should be good.
I still use Xs Max as my main still great phone and great performance
Recently updated from XS to 15 Pro MAX
Only issue is battery
Did not expect the Persona 5 music to suddenly play, that really made my ears perk up.
I had loved my iphone xs max and I loved using it until last year when my screen broke. I still miss it tbh.
Bro so do you still have it!
Did u return it?
Definitely one of the best looking iPhones in my opinion
I just want to use it as a secondary phone shall I buy it ?
I hope someone reads this, I currently have an iPhone SE 2022 with 64gb of storage and was looking to sell it and buy an iPhone XR with 128 storage, I will get a bigger screen, Face ID, and most importantly better battery because the SE just drains too fast. Is it a good idea?
no it isn't a good idea, the XR won't get as many years of updates as the se3, i would get atleast a used iphone 12 or even 13 if you have the money because the 13 has the same specs as the SE3. i mean the xr is still a pretty good phone but the updates are the bad thing
