Great looking pheasant tail. I made some zebra midges like that with a spun CDC collar and ice wing case, the trout go crazy on them. One of my most productive flies. Love it!
I just repaired two stonefly nymphs that had damaged thoraxes and wings cases with this method. I used laser dub with UV resin and it worked perfectly. These were well tied bead-head nymphs I purchased in a fly shop on the WB of the Delaware River. The hooks, abdomens and tails were still in great condition so it seemed silly to just throw them out. Thanks for the great tip. I will probably will use this wing case method on other flies.
Looks like something the fish would really like. I learn something everytime you tie a fly. Method with a purpose, I really like that. Thanks for sharing.
A year ago I took up my flyfishing/flytying again after more than 20 years break from it (moved from the north of Sweden to the south back then, and in the south there's mainly put & take "fishing" which I didn't like much. These days travelling to where the natural fish habitats are). I realized that in these 20+ years the tying techniques and material variations kinda exploded compared to what I was used to. Randomly stumbled upon your channel 6-7 months ago and really like what I'm seeing, easy to follow/learn tutorials and very nice patterns. Thanks for putting in so much time to teach out your style and techniques, helps an old guy like me a lot! :)
Thank you for your kind words. I am really glad i could help. I thought Sweden would have all wild fish everywhere. I am not big fan of ponds either. Even though some places can have chalenging fish its still artificial and i dont like it at all. Good for learning and getting young fly fishers in the game.
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Yes there's plenty of wild fish in the south, but not many streams/rivers with trout/grayling/char. Here people (and also me) fishing mostly perch, pike-perch/sander and pike in lakes, which I also like, but flyfishing in rivers is more my thing, and missed it a lot.
I feel same here. I am in southern china... Rivers are slow, most places are polluted Even when we get to some streem its empty because of poaching. I can't wait to get some salmonid
Thank you so much for the pattern. I modified a bit with bead and dubbing but the rest the same. Caught three large rainbows, biggest in that river ever. All fish hit this fly as point on euro rig. Awesome!
That's a neat way to make a dazzling wingcase and purple is the new hot color, a double bonus! It's funny, I have bought a few different dubbing dispensers over the years, that have a dozen colors each. And I doubted that I would ever use some of the colors. Like, who would ever use purple and blue in designing trout flies? Yet, in the last couple of years I have seen many new flies that use these shades. And the trout love them! Thanks!
Thank you, glad you like it. As for colours, after I used metallic blue tinsel for a perdigon nymph long ago, and fish in low and clear water loved it.... I realised any colour will have its time.... It doesnt work always but when it does its amazing
Thanks so much. No link, at least not link that works outside the China. I live in CN so i source everything here. Try aliexpress.... Leichi china or somethingike that is the name of big distributor from CN
Fascinating idea,, Yes, I agree I'm using more purples on flies these days. It does work. Isn't pheasant tail the most wonderful material? So many uses. :-) I just thought-that method with the UV dubbing could be used to make some fabulous tiny beetles-aqua, green and and other iridescent forms?
Thanks so much. PT is my favourite material for bodies. I have done some beetles this way. Unfortunately havent had real opportunity to test them properly
Hvala druze. Pa pazi, lakse je raditi sa lametom... Ali ice dub presijava na vise strana.... Nije ravan plus dosta vlakana je pod drugacijim uglovima... Mozda znaci, mozda ne 😀😀
Oh, I like this fly, I really do! Still I have to ask: why? Why ice dubb the wing case of a nymph? Make sense for emergers, but for nymphs , not so sure. Again, looks great, no doubt about it
No logic other than attraction. Same as your fles. They dont resemble naturals so much but you do well with them. I was thinking if flashback works well, and it reflects some light, maybe ice dubbing will be better when it reflects more light plus i have more color options :)

My new favorite fly. So happy to see someone who's obsessed with the color purple on their flies like myself.
Thanks. Cant go wrong with this. Not obsessed but love it 😀😀

Dude, that is a great idea. Thanks for sharing it. I’ve been working with fine glitter trying to get better wing cases. This looks so much better
Thank you. Glad it solved your issue 🍻🍻😀
Great video, I really
like how you take the time to explain everything.
Thank you. I am always afraid i am going into too many details. Glad to hear people who are watching my vids think otherwise. Cheers 🍺😀

thanks for this creative spin on a pheasant tail, I am going to try to tie some myself.
glad you like it. Please share some feedback when you test it. Reactions from all around the word are always welcomed :)
They look really good. Will have to try some out next time I'm grayling fishing. Thanks 👍
thank you so much. I havent tested these yet, but i am pretty sure they'll work. Grayling too. especially if you add pink ice UV dubbing :)
Love your videos! Very innovative using the ice dub to created the wing case. I will be trying a few today.
