    This is the best tutorial I've ever seen, easy to follow. I've just started tying, and I've copied this, and caught on this pheasant tail first time using it. Thanx very much for sharing.

    This is still one of my favorite flies to tie, and trout love it! Super simple pattern, but it works.

    Thank you Curtis, for this excellent video. I seen some tying PT nymphs on YT, but this is the best with a lot of useful hints and tips.

    I've been tying for 40 years. Some flies catch fisherman others catch fish. Usually the simpler, spiky looking flies do the best. I fish a very similar pheasant tail.

    The traditional PT had the wing case. Thus is the second fly I learnrd to tie 50 yrs ago and it had the wing case.

    Where can I get a bead holding tool like you used in tying the pheasant tail fly to insert the hook in the bead

  • @genewagstaff5865
    @genewagstaff5865 3 года назад +1

    I use a fingernail clipper for cutting wire instead of scissors. That saves wear and tear on the scissors and is way cheaper.

    • @PhoenixB97
      @PhoenixB97 3 года назад

      I have a pair of mini side cutters that are awesome. Never tried fingernail clips though probably works just as good

    Great fly, and like all of your video's, very well done. I'm curious though, since copper wire disappears into peacock herl anyway, why not wait until you have wrapped with the herl before bringing the copper wire forward so the herl is also protected by the wire, instead of the additional thread wraps?

    • @garretts.2003
      @garretts.2003 2 года назад +1

      I wrap the wire through peacock herl when I tie mine. You can see the copper a bit, not that it matters a ton to the fish. I also use the pheasant fibers to make a wing case and legs like it's traditionally tied.

    Thanks Curtis - awesome! How would this be for late fall/winter trout? A keeper? This is my first winter to be out fly fishing so I'm looking for those good patterns.

    you run a small wire for 14, 16, and 18? could i get away with using a brassie size wire or medium? i didn't pick up any 'small' :)

    • @JWolfy11

      I used a medium and tied a few tonight. Is there any methodology to picking bead color?

    You should check out rite bobbins there pricey but they allow you to set your thread very specifically and you can use any kind of thread they have very tight settings for streamers wayyy tighter than other bobbins

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  3 года назад

      We have them and sell them. They are definitely a good product, but not my favorite.

    • @keiranrooker7981
      @keiranrooker7981 3 года назад

      @@FlyFishFood oh why’s that? I’m just wondering cause personally I love mine it’s the ceramic tip one and I can still tie flies in size 20 (just saying that cause I know some people don’t like the length)

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  3 года назад

      They aren’t symmetrical so when I spin the bobbin you flatten thread they don’t spin well at all. I’d much rather control the tension with my palm as well.

    Be better if you put barb fully in vise so as not to cut your line

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  5 лет назад +4

      Anthony T actually the barb and point shouldn’t be put fully into the vise that severely limits the room you have to tie in materials. It’s really easy to avoid cutting your thread.

    its great, I go out into the field with my shotgun, shoot some birds, plunk some feathers, then unwind with making some flies with the feathers.
