- I take a look back to a couple of videos that i did last autumn, where I talked about my tip tips for the best Lego sets that were due to retire at the end of 2023.
I go back through my lists and take a look at how the sets are performing now they have retired, as well as how many of each set I have in my inventory and how much I paid for everything.
Whatnot is an online, live auction website that has only just recently allowed Lego to be sold in the UK (It's been available in North America for a while now) If you don't already have a Whatnot account, then please follow the link below.
If you are based in the UK then you will get at least £10 (and possibly up to £200) for free to spend on Whatnot:-

Please follow the links below if you do not already have a Quidco or a Topcashback account in the UK:-

Great video. I knew BD1 would smash it. Looks so cool with the light kit.
Yes, I wish I'd bought a few more now
Nice video Iain! You can’t really go wrong with the majority of those buy in prices! :)
I bought 10 of those haunted mini mansions at the sale price🥲 I think being the first to retire in a new series they’ll do well eventually…. Haha
Im tempted to get a world map, I have this annoying feeling it’s going to be selling for silly money in a few years and like you I thought it was over priced to begin with lol
Yes, I feel as though I've had more success stories than failures for my 2023 list.
I personally would be tempted to try and get a world map now, unless you can pick one up for close to RRP.
@@iainsbricksforgot to say assembly square disappeared off the Lego site yesterday, finally!
Hurrah!
Great video Iain. Some really nice sets there, you will do well with them.
Thanks Wayne
Excellent job! 3 more sets doing well maybe worth mentioning:
- Colosseum
- Bird of Paradise
- Paris postcard
Thanks - I will keep an eye on those sets as well.
@@iainsbricksare you picking up 40712 gwp I would like to buy one at the Hampshire brick event from you please?
Funny as I went over the performance of many sets as well a few days ago. Vast majority of sets are not performing as well as the lot that retired at the end of 2022, many of those had a way more significant initial retirement pump. This confirms what I have been thinking for a while which is that Lego investing is changing. Ofcourse people don't want to hear this and ignore the signs. Sure it might be different if you go sell on festivals, but even HillianBricks confirmed in a vid that selling at festivals is not as successful as before. And I think your last festival didn't go as well either Iain, I remember watching your vid. Markets go in cycles, Lego reselling entered a down cycle, the good news is there will be an up cycle again at some point. Just be careful out there, don't get rekt.
People are not spending as much money on toys now, either due to inflation or budget shifting toward dining out and travel.
@@MachaLatte123 Yes so the demand side is lower, and at the same time the supply side is much bigger than it used to be. More Lego investing youtube channels etc so people see and hear about the gains etc so more people got into Lego investing.
Yes, there willbe fluctuations, but there are already signs that some sets that retired last year are already doing well. It's still early days and I tend to hang on to sets for at least 2 years before selling on.
There is a Brick Festival in London this weekend. I'm not going, but it looks like they have sold loads of tickets, so it will be busy.
Very true that a lot of people have less to spend, but there will always be some people who do have spare cash.
It's all about picking the right sets and holding for the right time. Most perspective a set to double in value as soon as it retires, but that's not normally what happens.
I loved every second of this video except for the ads lol tons of value and insight Iain thank you. Thqnks to your videos we were able to colle t most of those sets for us to build and enjoy. Unfortunately we paid full price for the Justifier and its only got one minifigure we really like. Thank you for helping us make sure we didn't miss out on any sets. The world map felt over priced and with so many sets retiring it was important to spend the money wisely. Enjoyable video time flew by!
Thanks Jai - sorry for the adds but they do help out my channel.
Glad you find the videos useful.
Getting a few world maps would have been great in hindsight, but you can't win them all!
Great video Iain found this really interesting. I bought into the New Guardians Ship too as it had a few things going for it to make it a good set to invest in so when it came up at 30% off, plus 9% off through work, GWP and cashback jumped on it, but as its still going today it suggests I may of made a poor decision 😂. Keep up the great content 😊
Thanks Andrew. It's still early days so there is still time for it to start increasing in value
On sale for a reason. Absolutely a horrible set!
Great Video, also great to see lego investing from a UK seller
Thank you. Much appreciated
Thanks Ian. Fantastic video mate. Been very enjoyable to watch plus extremely interesting.
From Matt in Dorset
Thank for watching Matt. Much appreciated
It's always a great start to the day when Iain posts. 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching
Be good to have a update!
Great video as always Iain, I hope you do well with all your sets!
Why do you think theres such a big difference between what people pay for sets on Amazon and ebay - I've seen some huge differences when I've been shopping for things.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions so often by the way!
Hi Daniel. I think with Amazon, most people are happy to pay more as they know Amazon as a company and trust it more than ebay.
World Map is really surprising 😮 I've got mine for later to build, but when price will hit double cost I might rethinking 😅
Yes, this one took me by surprise too.
Brilliant analysis, theres always one or two sets that catch everyone by surprise, both positive and negative! As youre the king of GWPs, any chance you'll do the same price tracking for some of the 2023 GWPs? Most of them lose value but the themed ones might have increased
Thanks. I don't normally track the price of the gwp's but iymt may be a good idea to keep track of how they are performing
I took my losses (or breakeven) on the Guardians ship. It felt like a winner but Marvel sets are just not that great and money is better spent elsewhere. Thanks for the content and best of luck in 2024..
Yes, sometimes it better to cash in and get something else instead
This is one of very few vids I've found on YT that is actually reliable when it comes to investing in LEGO. Most of the vids or short clips you see here or on IG is about people bragging how set X or Y increased in value 500% over 2-3 years and it seems like the numbers are just trumped up for views or fake hype (and which you can honestly fact check in 1 min). Good job, I'll definitely come back for more.
Out of curiosity, do you track your sales margin and can you share what that might have been throughout 2023? Thanks!
Hi Jeremi, thanks for watching and for your comments.
I try to be as open and honest as I can. I also don't like it when other RUclipsrs brag a lot, or just talk about sets that have done exceptionally well.
I don't really have a specific sales margin for the sets I buy. Obviously I will try to sell for a profit, but sometimes I will sell sets that haven't increased in value much, so I can spend those funds on other sets.
34:00 might be selling for a lot because the part out price is probably pretty good. But then again it's small pieces so selling those on Bricklink will take forever...
I think the sales were low so they dropped it quick but there’s clearly people who wanted it. I expected it to be around for 4-5 years so maybe it caught people off guard.
There’s a lot of people hang them on the wall and they do look quite good tbh. I hated the set at first but weirdly I like it now.
I think it could keep rising by quite a bit.
Who knows - I'm amazed it's doing so well so early on.
Yes, it willbe interesting to see how the set is performing in a year or two.
Luckily I managed to snag two Viking ships from Very at a price of £45.98 each, I don't think I could add more. It seems like there was a massive rush of buyers because the very next day, the price shot up to around £70
Yes, I think I got one or two of mine from Very as well
I’m a bit late but the Saturn V will do good over time although it was available for so long it is a set lots of people want and I think it will do very well..
Apparently Saturn V was a really great building experience, although I never built it myself.
@@iainsbricks Yes building it there is no cost spared and it isn’t hollow except some of it was very hard with clips and that sort of stuff. Great build and a good investment I think
You did well with the helmets, Iain
Thank - I had a lot of people last year questioning why I bought so many.
i bought many of the same sets, and I feel that there will be a long hold time for quite a few of them
Yes, it will take a while for some sets to appreciate in value to a reasonable level.
I normally like to hold things for 2 years after retirement before selling on.
Great vid as always!!
Thanks Jody
13:15 - No one tell Iain that they have stopped making any more F&F films!
I bet they end up making more
I think the world map is quite a shocker. It is by far my least favourite set to build. I got it for Christmas and I still haven't finished it. Luckily, they sent 2 instead of one so I'm going to sell it for a quick flip at London Brick Festival this weekend!
Urswick, the World Map was not on my to buy list at all. Good luck at the London Brick Festival. Looks like, they've sold a lot of tickets, so it will be busy.
@@iainsbricks Thanks, let’s hope it’s a busy day
I hope you have some orders lined up in the next few days as that Space GWP is great and is a sure investment winner. Great, insightful stuff as always
Yes, I really do like the new space gwp. I placed 1 order last night and will do another one today, plus I'm off to the Lego store this evening
@@iainsbricks based on what happened last year, likely those GWPs will come back again later this year
@@iainsbrickslike to buy one off you at the Hampshire brick event please
Thanks for the information.
Thanks for watching, Charlotte
Are you looking on prices of sold sets on eBay or prices people want to sell their retired sets?
Aren’t Bricklink prices better indicators?
I am not an investor just curious 😅
I prefer to use sold ebay prices as that is the price someone has actually paid. Brickling for sale prices can vary greatly based on item location and condition
good vid mate!
Thank you
Hi Iain. Great video but is it not too early?
Thanks. I just wanted to highlight sets had instantly done well and which hadn't. I probably won't be selling any of these sets on for at least a year or two.
Hi what price could you see the medieval blacksmith going to and the Disney 100. Thanks
No idea. Only time will tell. That's the fun of Lego investing
Are you going to the Bournemouth brick festival on the 7th September l'm trying to get a table for that day
No. All the tables sold out in 5 mins and I couldn't get through to book
40622 is currently being sold for £30!
Yes, I was wrong on this set unfortunately. It happens 🙃
What do you think about selling on Bricklink? Or is selling on sites like eBay generally better?
It depends on what sets you are selling. I put some of my larger more expensive sets on Bricklink, and have used ebay for smaller sets or figs in the past, but I generally prefer to sell at Brick Festivals or other similar events
Hello Iain will you be at bricktastic 2024?
Hi. I've booked to go as a visitor on the Saturday 11th May in Milton Keynes
@@iainsbricks No worries, ill miss you there 😄
