£2500+ Biggest Lego Auction Haul EVER! (part 1 of 3)
My biggest Lego haul so far - I spent over £2500 at an online auction recently - I bit on quite a few different lots and ended up winning 21 of them!
I have so much Lego to unbox and show you that I have had to split the video into 3 parts (otherwise the video would have just been too long!)
I won a variety of different Lego sets, most of which are retired sets, rare sets, unusual sets, as well as some older used retro Lego sets as well, which I have really been looking forward to having a look at.
Keep an eye out for parts 2 and 3 of the unboxing.

Lego Sets Retiring in 2024 - Comparing our Top 5 sets

Myself and my good friend Duncan discus Lego sets that are due to retire at the end of 2024 - We both compiled a top 5 list of sets that we think are the best Lego sets to buy before they retire, either for investment or for personal use. We also discuss our 'Dark Horse' sets - those sets that potentially could do quite well once retired, but that not many other Lego investors are talking about...

Great haul Ian. Looking forward to part 2and 3. Have a fantastic weekend. Matt from Dorset
Thanks Matt. It's going to be a Legotastic weekend for me!
I do think I may have been bidding in the same auction 😂.
Oops! Hope you managed to get some items too.
A real collective variety of items for your stall. Will take some time in valuing ,best of luck . Be interesting to see the final part of your unboxing & value of each lot .
Thank you. I was surprised how many lots I won at this auction.
if you need any bits for the vintage use set let me know im sure i have them in better condition you can have
Thanks. The majority of the parts look OK so far but there are a few scabby old bits in there as well. I might need your advice on the best way to clean and whiten some of the bricks as well.
Thanks for sharing such detailed information. Like you, I am registered for Self-Assessment with HMRC for my Bricklink Store and Ebay selling. I pay the correct amount of tax on my sales. That's life, but I do ok. Again, like you, I love what I do. I would like to do brick lego festivals, but they are circa 4 or 5 hours away from where I live.
Hi William. Yes, unfortunately paying tax is on of those necessary evils. Shame you live so far away from where the Brick Festivals are held. Hopefully they will do an event near you soon.
Great haul. Cannot wait to watch parts 2 & 3. Put Dr Who sets away until 2026, and then you will get £220. Great you are sourcing older sets for your festivals to attract customers.
Thanks William. With these auction hauls the general idea is to sell the sets straight away, even if it's for only a small profit, however I may have to hold some of the sets a little longer.
Hi Iain.there is talk of a new goonies film being made..might be worth putting that away till then
Yes, I had heard that too.
Absolutely love how you share authentically about everything
Thanks. Just trying to be honest and open about everything
@bricktsar would LOVE all the older sets and instructions. I apprectiate that you share all this and I see more of your passion when yojmu discover older sets 😊
Thanks. Yes I'm sure he would. I still have some more older sets to come in the other 2 boxes. Hopefully they will be just as good.
Which online auctions is most reliable ?
Fun to see older stuff that I have never seen before...
B E N N Y
I bet the shipping was expensive... Waiting to see what you bought...
Like that strategy hold on to certain sets because after a few years some really begin to grow..$$$
Hiya Iain, did you mean to say the Leicester brick festival is in September rather than October? Sadly can't make it if it is September, but wish you all the best with it!
Yes, did I say the wrong month in the Video? I will be at the Leicester Brick Festival on 29th September
You could make bank on those merch shields if you can find the matching Nexo swords of Ninjago weapons. Parents will buy them for their kids, just like at Legoland.
Ah, is that where they are from.
You didn’t answer the biggest question!! Did the air tanks sell the GWP sets?
I only sold 1 out of the 4 I took.
45 mins is half the length of a movie 😅
Sorry it's so long but I had a lot to get through. I still have 2 more big boxes to unpack and go through!
Great video! Do you think it is better to buy Lego off of eBay for cheap and then resell it for a profit on Bricklink? Take care!
Thanks for watching. If you can get sets for cheap enough then yes, however I don't think there is too much difference in ebay prices against Bricklink prices.
@@iainsbricks Then how do you source your parts and figs for BL?
@@runningfeelsfree I don't really use Bricklink much. I sell most of the sets I have at Brick Festivals and events. I buy direst from retailers or at online auctions
Nice video Iain and great to hear that the festival was successful.I still have to wait 2 months for the next brickfestival over here in the Netherlands. I can only hope to sell that many sets for that amount, that would be really great 😊
Hi Peter. Yes, it was a very successful evenfor me. I'm so lucky to live close to You which always has some really well attended Brick Festivals.
Iain, I really appreciate you telling us how much you made in total following your recent brick sale.
No problem. Thanks for watching. This was one of my better shows. It's hard work but you can definitely make money from these shows.
Wow - what a good day! Nice to see the revenue ready to be used for Black Friday! Hope Leicester will be busy as it’s around the school holidays and parents will be more inclined to spend money as it’s getting colder and coming up to Christmas 🤞
Thanks. I have quite a few shows coming up so hoping they will be reasonably successful
Sad I couldn’t make it to this one, it wa Mrs Minifig Jez’s birthday, and she’s supportive of Lego, but not THAT much! But I’m sure I’ll bump into you at either the Southampton or Portsmouth Festivals, glad this one was a good one for you. (Also… 20:20 “The Winnie The Pooh Steamboat Willie”- I think you might be mixing your Disney genres!!! - it actually made me lol!)
@@MinifigJez That's ok. Sometimes there are more important things than Lego. Just played that bit back, and yes I did get my sets mixed up! Oops!
@@iainsbricks “Sometimes theer are more important things than Lego”… yes, just not many things!!!!
Well done Ian. Thanks for sharing your profit too, which is something we never see elsewhere. Good luck at future shows
No problem. I have thought a lot about discussing my profits and takings and decided that it's what people really want to know.
You are really a nice guy, thx for all this Infos and all the best for you in the Future….Greetings from Germany
Danke. Much Appreciated
I take losses all the time. It's just part of doing business. Better to move your money into better performers. Enjoy your videos and keep on crushing it..
Thanks Scott. It was only a small loss so I don't mind a little one every now and then
Agreed. I got burned with lego Prince of Persia series and batman 70904 and others. They were great sets but bombed. Held them for at least 5 years and made loss but then sold them all to try to get some of my money back. I steer clear of batman nowadays.
Hope your card machine behaves itself next time! Good that there’s a plan B, guess the majority of your sales are card purchases? And if you’re coming to Taunton at the end of the month we’ll hopefully see you there!
Yes, so do I. At least I was still able to take payments. Unfortunately I won't be at Taunton at the end of the month. My next nearest shoe to there will be the Exeter National Brick Event on 30th November.
Well done
Thanks Phil
Making money from a hobby you enjoy. Sounds like good money to me! Do you think Lego will offer the gwp candy store , florist etc again or is that series done?
Thank. Yes I really do enjoy it all and making a decent profit is the cherry on the top. Not sure if those gwps will come back at all, always difficult to say with Lego
Good going selling that amount, the best part is the fact you enjoy what you do. I love buying Lego for my daughter to build and me to put away sealed sets. Good info as usual, keep them coming.
Thanks Matt. Yes, I really do enjoy doing this. Nice to make a decent profit as well
Excellent video as always Ian. Love the honesty and transparency. What a gentleman you are! 👍
No problem. It was a good event all round but always important to mention the negatives as well, like the loss on that 1 set or the card reader issues.
Very honest and interesting review 👍
Thanks Martyn.
Great video Iain.
Thank you
still holding the top stop?? ......lol. and the 26th is your next one tut tut you forgot poor me :( . seems that you had the problem i did at my event in march with card reader the stress i went through lol
Yes, the card reader decided to stop talking to the phone. At least I now know how to fix it. Plus the tap to pay function did work OK in general.
@@iainsbricks well hopefully ours will be ok ON THE 26TH lol . ;p
That's a good result & you seem to enjoy the events even if it's hard work . Also you out this back into buying more stock. I do enjoy your channel . Hope to meet you one day but unfortunately your events are too far from me .
Hi Michael. Really appreciate your comments - glad you like the channel. What area are you based in. I may be doing shows further afield next year.
Love the detailed and transparent price breakdown. £1.5k for a day's work - which you clearly enjoy - isn't too shabby at all.
Thanks. Yes, not too bad for a days work, although it never feels like actual work when you are doing it for yourself
@@iainsbricksResearching, bargain hunting, purchasing, documenting, storing, sorting, pricing up, packing etc... I suspect it's a bit more than a day's work but yes, still enjoyable when the profits eventually roll in, I'm sure! 😁
@@GetBricksAndChill Yes, there is always a lot of time spent sorting and getting everything ready before an event as well.
Well done.. I sold Dr Who for £175 but it took 6 shows to go
Excellent. Hopefully it won't take too long to sell.
Great video Iain. Life is made easier when you do things that you enjoy.
Thanks Wayne. It's definitely hard work but I also get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Great video Ian. Sometimes you have to take a loss, that's the thing with investing if it was shares they go up and down that's what we do. We think it will sell but everything is a gamble we use experience and history in sales but as you said if you take to another event you could sell the sets you didn't think you would. BD-1 sells on eBay for around £105-££115 people listing for loads higher but not selling. I sold 1 for £115 Inc p+p and still have 7 left. well done.
Thanks for watching. Obviously I don't like to make a loss on a set but in the big scheme of things it was only a minor glitch. I'm sure the BD-1 will sell well at another show.
It is good profit as you can buy lots of new lego on top of the money returned!
Yes, all of the profits will be spent on more Lego
What Chinese food did you get?
I had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. It was yummy.
Shelves are made of plastic. Not exactly lego but they are related! 😅
Lol. Yes, I guess they are
Hi Iain are going to the Portsmouth event?
Hi - yes, I will be at the Portsmouth Brick Festival on Sunday 10th December
Thank you guys for the good information. This was a great video! You guys should do this again next year.🤞
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video and your pricing is very buyer friendly ❤
Thanks Jai. Much appreciated
Great days work with a very good profit margin. You made the right decision to sell the Lego fun fair to then be able to re invest in the future. If you enjoy it then it’s not really work is it 😜. Thank you for the insights as always.
I love these breakdowns Iain congratulations on another successful event 🎉
Thanks David. The event days are long and tiring, but also very enjoyable
Are you going to Milton kenynes on Sunday
No, I won't be there I'm afraid. Next one for me is Leicester Brick Festival on 29th September
Hey! Does It automatically shuts down after 15-20 seconds in a full power mode?
No, mine goes on for about 10 minutes on full power.
Thank you. Really helpful👍👍
Thanks for watching
