Melania may not be a reference to any real-life figure, but we avid gamers know that she's the embodiment of Persona 5 in the '60s. 🤭 Thank you, Island, for once again explaining the event because all of these references flew over my head. 😅
Before playing the event, when I saw the trailer i thought "Hmm, so 4 people trying to steal a cup or something? Not really interesting, but let's see". Now, after playing, and as you said, I loved how the story is a beatiful mess. The characters don't know each other, they have no intention of helping each other unless they obtain something and most of the time they're stepping or crushing in others plans, but everythings flows so well, as if it was destiny for the four of them meet there. It was a great first event-
The rimet cup event probably took place just a few weeks before the beginning of the game. I rewatched a playthrough of the game and saw that the news paper boy was carrying news regarding Pikles heroic something... Which means that all these arcanists in the event were sadly not saved by Vertin and thus reversed (presumably up until chapter 4). Or did they somehow survive?
This event took place in March 1966, while prologue of the main story was in June 1966. Pickles, Chalton and Diggers went on a cruise ship to Paris after Pickles became famous and I don't know if they avoided the storm.
theres a theory that all the character we play are actually reversed, its not them, just a painting of them that Vertin made. Thats why we can sometimes see them in a canvas on the lobby(?).
There is one thing I've been thinking about during the 2nd phase of the event. Do the UTTU cards have some hidden lore within them? If so, are you going to cover it in a video? Pretty sure a lot of people noticed that some characters have their own card but, Schneider has 4 cards and one of those cards is a revive card. Could this be foreshadowing something in the future? Or I'm probably just over analyzing the cards XD
I fell in love with this game because of the art-direction and music as well as the general idea of the lore. Not even Honkai Star Rail hooked me. Looking forward for more Reverse 1999 lore.
Once 1.2 is finished (or perhaps sometime after its second half comes around), would you also discuss all the references in 1.2? I think it's just a very neat love letter to horror movies with tons of things to unpack.
the moments with charlton, wendy and pickles are so heartwarming. especially the last chapter. Hope they made a game CG for that. it is so wholesome. Edit: boss Island, UTTU stream when? 😅😅😅
Side question, so Rimet Cup events were before the Storm, right and Regulus met Timekeeper later on. Just making sense of the timeline. Does it mean that everyone died, from the event? Well, it's kind of depressing=(
It could also be that Arcanists actually get picked up by either the Manus or the Foundation, since it seems that Regulus was the last one they were tracking; the Foundation seems to choose what Arcanists can join (be controlled in this case, and Regulus was one they couldn't until Vertin came along) while the Manus pick them regardless and make sure to feed into their negative emotions to control them. Manus seems to use Arcanist the recruit from each era to attempt to recruit the rest, as we see Forget Me Not with a list that includes Scheinder (who we later learn is not a real mage), Sotheby, and Druvis, while the Foundation seemingly has a list already in their archives. It could also be that Vertin actually plucks the Arcanists from their era with the use of the Loom, like fishing them just at the right time before the storm came and giving them a place to rest in the Wildness inside her suitcase, things that Vertin didn't know her suitcase could hold until she saved Regulus. ...that is to say, I hope Pickles didn't get to see Wendy and Charlton get reversed in the Storm. This is a possible spoiler for later down the line so, be warned- 1 2 3 .... From a skin we get later and some tidbits of information, it turns out *Diggers* got recruited before the Storm by the Manus- which makes one of his lines, "We once had days like this, and we will have more in the future." quite tragic when you take into account how Arcana seems to warp anyone that ends in her thrall, and just exactly how much of an upper hand they got with Diggers, whose skill shares his visions with others and puts them in a trace, when he's become corrupted by Arcana's ink.
I mean: its definitely planned, from storytelling perspective. There was a time when Genshin was like this, too. Sadly Genshin people dumb and dont play the game, so they had to turn that down a bit.
@@arceuse1999 yeah but it's on the skin. Mondo - Liyue - Inazuma had a lot of "show, don't tell" that people couldn't see, so now they had to make it on the skin, so that the story seemed thicc (when really it doesn't change much. it's just the bunch of infobomb presented as... well, an infobomb, just so that it seemed cool, when before you have to see the world and notice.) yep, they have given up with Genshin people's reading comprehension so much, that they had to narrate and re-narrate each plot point (via the evidence screen, on the trials) because guess what? Genshin people can't read subtext! Props to them to at least make it look cool; It doesn't solve the main issue. Just compare what Island had just said in this video about R1999 to Fontaine? Fontaine is much simpler, right? It's just more... impressionistic, in hoyo's term.
Hoyo knows what works for genshin and its audience. If the players can't read, they have to engage them with more on-the-nose cutscenes and story exposition. It makes sense for what the game and its player base is, but I agree it is nowhere near amazing storytelling.
Well, this helped me know the lore for the event. For someone who just skipped all the cutscenes. 😭 ( BEST BOY PICKLES ✨ ) But still curious if the 3 ( Melania, Pickles, Diggers ) did survive the "Storm", if there even was a "Storm" that took place that time.
someone probably mentioned it here, but the event took place mere months before the "Storm" in the prologue happened as for our dear arcanists, their whereabouts are currently unknown in the context of the main story
I will be honest, I never really liked Regulus and the event made me despise her. Not because her character is badly written or unrealistic mind you, but because I hate the kind of person she represents in real life. She is rebellious in nature (which is fine), has a decently large platform as a pirate radio host, but my biggest problem is that she completely jumps to conclusions every step of the turn and the only reason we aren't mad at her is that she randomly landed on the exact thing that was needed, but if she wasn't, she would just be another rambling conspiracy wine mom that 'read something online (modern)' or 'heard something somewhere from some distant acquaintance' that made her (example) not trust her medical doctor anymore and instead handle every illness with essential oils or some other tinfoil had conspiracy, while blasting it out to her listeners as fact without a second thought.
The reason we aren’t supposed to dislike Regulus is that she wanted to double check everything with Diggers even after she had jumped to conclusions not because she was actually right all along imo. We are explicitly setup to dislike her jumping to conclusions because it’s linked by APPLe to bad things such as greed.
also because... well, she's 16. look it up in her profile. she also is modeled after regulus, a star in the LEO constellation so guess you can see her pride like a lion (her suitcase chibi is a lion cub) as well as having a relation with apple like lions and their pride.
@@lyl_es9421 Look at Bkornblumes profile if she was a stasi agent (Stasi shuts down in 1990) and her card says starts in the 1980's for 18 years which would make her lore not make sense or she'd be at the oldest 10 when the stasi closes down.
PICKLES SO COOL MAN...
I got pickles!
Agreed Pickles is far and away best dog.

I always thought Melania was a reference to both Sherlock Holmes and Arsene Lupin.
APPle has arms now… I don’t know how to feel about it.

Agreed until I was suddenly reminded about the storm I could not hold my tears 😭
Another thing to add is Melania’s birthday, that took place on the same day the real-life Rimet Cup got stolen back in 1966, which was on March 20th
i cant wait for you to explain 1.2 story

Will the event stories be added to the atlas permanently or is it gonna be gone and only readable on the event reruns?
