Actually got to meet this young lady today. She gave this old angler some good tips and also some fiddler crabs because I had struck out trying to find some. She's knowledgeable and passionate about this lifestyle. It's very refreshing to see.
Oh yeah! It’s so helpful with the tides. I still try to plan my trips around the tides, but I usually end up changing up plans too, and run into wind/currents
I like what you’ve done with your kayak! Game changer for so many reasons! I fish a lot from my boat but I have been seriously looking into getting a kayak too. Seeing you validates my want for making sure I can upgrade in the future. Bravo 👏🏻
Awesome set-up. I love my 22' sportsman 120 pdl. I just added my new J2 Bixpy PP 768, with the Bixpy rudder kit, which is the vibe Gravity rudder. I purchased the matte black platform for the deck, from Navarre fishing. And I believe he makes the bow mount for just about any kayak. But depending on where i'm fishing, sometimes I'll leave my PDL at home plug my deck and just use the now high powered Bixpy. But that bow mount trolling motor is coming. So I'll have 3 different setups. And the Oldtown is built so thick and rugged, the bow will not sag on the water. Stay safe my friend. 🌊 🛶 🎣 🌴
Great video! I hope your shoulder gets better, I had to do a lot of physical therapy to get back to paddling easy, so I know a bit about how it can be.
I do a lot of marsh / coastal fishing in South Carolina out of my Auto Pilot 120. I've been looking for a secondary (backup) propulsion system in case my Minn Kota goes down while I'm 5 miles from the launch in the tides and wind. Wouldn't be such a big deal if I had a pedal drive but there is no paddling that 120. This may be the answer. Great video, thanks!
Very informative video Erin. look forward to the catch, clean and cook videos. Have you been able to go up to the north end and look if the renourishment has affected the beaches?
I’m waiting for a new seat for my kayak. The sun took its toll on the stitching. But I’m going to try out the pier and see if anything is biting. Better than not fishing!
Great video , I saw you answer the question about deploying the rudder and weight…. How about turning the kayak while motor is off ??? Did it affect turn radius by cutting the rotor?
Hello! Great question! I haven’t noticed any change in the steering when the motor is off. There is less rudder there, for sure, but if there’s a difference, it’s not very much.
Thanks for the info. I have been looking at those and one of the competitors. Still have not made up my mind yet. My kayaks are all Eddylines much different than the sit on tops. You could mount a flexible solar panel to charge that. You could even use it as a sun shade. I paddle up river from our house on the river we live on. Have been for 20 some years now but it would be nice to not paddle some days up.
Very nice job on this video, Erin. That motor really helps you scoot along. That means you can cover more fishing spots during your trips. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 P.S. I have more crushed chili pepper for you. I’ll drop it at East Coast this week. Stay well! Steve
Great video. Just started looking at the Bixby. Curious as to why shortening the length of the Old Town rudder is part of their instructions. After cutting the rudder, does the addition of the motor get u back to the original OT rudder length? Asking as a Hobie Outback owner. How’s it do in shallow water with obstructions? Thx.
What a great and helpful addition to the kayak. Smart move girl. Should help get on spots, and back, faster. That darn chirping sounded like a bird was following you. You have your kayak setup pretty nice. I wanted a kayak, but chose to get a small boat to get into skinny water. Don't let those big reds whoop yor butt. Have fun girl. Steve
Great job on that mod, Erin! Slick little motor. I have only 3 complaints. 1, you got me up to 3am watching your videos. 2, now I want one of those kayaks. And 3, of course I'll want that motor mod, too! Darn you! 😂

Can you do a video of launching your kayak. I have a old town sportsman and thinking about getting a trailer. Like to see others advice and techniques. Also what other areas around wilmington have you fished?
Hey Bill! I’ll do one. I’d like to get a new trailer. Like one that’s meant to go in the water 🤣 I’ll probably get a jet ski trailer, as I’ve seen them work for some bigger kayaks.

Get out there and enjoy! I think a jig saw would have cut that in a couple minutes with less damage to the remainder of the skeg. Circular saw for straight cut and jig saw for the hole cut it down to 1 minute!

So I ended up moving the rear camera closer, so that I can change out the go pro battery without risking my life 🤣

The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
