This tutorial will show you how to make quick and effective use of Unity's own tree creator Leaf Textures: www.pngmart.com... Bark Texture: www.cadhatch.co...
So creating a tree in unity is more optimized especially when combining with unity terrain? What is the difference if you modeled and imported your tree from a 3d modelling tool?
When creating the leaf material. You were using 2 different textures. But only 1 of them were selected in the material. How do you add the 2nd one and how does it apply?
Can branches have a different texture than the trunk? I'm using (and have to) Unity 5.2.3. Scandinavian birch trees have dark branches and pretty much white trunks
Anyone else try and follow along and they go way to fast lol it's like they are off to the races yes I know I can pause I just find it funny that they go 100 Miles an hour when they are trying to explain how to do it lol
hey so uh... sorry to make you wait four years, but, if you can find and select the textures that its using, you can go into the shading tab under tools or editing I think and select "Convert Mat To URP" and it should make it not pink :D
My mind shattered watching this video... I've been making blender models, baking textures and importing into unity this wholetime i clda done it in Unity
Thank you so much, days trying to make a tree by my own on blender and make the foliage appears..nothing... now i think i can do it easily on unity3d... i wonder how it is to make the foliage transparent...i will watch until the end... thank you!!
Can you give some example as to how one can control the distribution of leaf groups and branch groups in a tree dynamically in run-time using a script? The Unity official tutorials do not help in any way!! Thank you in advance!
@@thekiwininja99 no. I made a backup before I switched to LWRP and now I'm trying to finish the game without it. For me it feels like a weird way to force the creator to purchase the speedtree licences. Good luck with your projects.
If you've created your textures in a photo editor, did you remove the respective backgrounds? Also, did you export your textures as PNG files before adding them to Unity? It can also be that you used the wrong material type. I made this in an old version of Unity, so I'm not entirely sure what the correct material type will be for the current version.
If you use the 2019 version of Unity select your texture and check "alpha is transparent" in the inspector. Also select your material and check "double sided" and "alpha clipping" in the inspector. That should solve the problem.
You'll probably make a prefab out of it and add it to your scene either manually or via script. Nothing should stop you from adding a mesh collider to the object. Even tho, if you are going to use lots of trees i'd suggest not using a mesh or box collider, and instead consider using a simple sphere collider for performance reasons.
I used a paint program called Paint.net to make the background of the image alpha 0. As long as your image has an alpha channel set to zero it should import properly as a texture.
PNG 8bit, with a Alpha that has RGB blacked out. So in short you want the color channels to have color, hen the alpha to be black where your image is, then all white around it. Then look for transparency options, do cutout and double sided. You can easily make a alpha RGB png with a free program called Gimp. Just look where the layers are, then the tab next to it is the channels, which show red, green, and blue channels, you can auto make a alpha by right clicking on your layer then choosing the option add alpha. I know it's 7 months later, but maybe you still need this tip, or some one reading this will learn.
You Explain everything i need about tree in unity and you give the texture too...
Thank you very much for the video ...
it really helpfull ....

Its less Works. I couldnt open the foliage texture on unity from blender so i assume unity3d have It ready and more easy tô go
Saving time
Its a great turoial, one question how do you get the backlighting to work on leaves?
Nice, but since URP the trees appear pink and updating all the material of the project to URP doesn't help either..
Man, you helped me so MUCH. Thank you bro.

THX BUDDY ...YOU HELP ME a lot...its very easy tutorial
Is there a way to copy paste this and edit the 2nd tree separately? Changes always effect my first tree too
1 month later, have u find a way? i not...
Can branches have a different texture than the trunk? I'm using (and have to) Unity 5.2.3. Scandinavian birch trees have dark branches and pretty much white trunks
tree object is legacy and isn't supported by the Lightweight Render Pipeline
can i add this in terrain tree ? can i paint over terrain with it?
my tree won't move if I apply custom leaf and branch textures, but I stay with default texture (blank), the tree moves, why?
This feature is broken in new versions of unity
Would it be possible to make the trunk and leaves out of blocks?
hi i know this comment is late but my branches didnt go upp when i used seek-sun how to do?
Great tutorial thanks!
Great tutorial!
Ohhh Boy You help me Alots...Thanks alots..❤🥀
PLEASE HELP
There is no "shader" drop down when I select my leaf.
I get "texture type" and it is not the same. Is it because I am in unity 2020.1.2?
Thanks! Easy to follower and straight forward. I do have access to SpeedTree at school. Is SpeedTree better to use or Unity's tree creator?
+StylexSai If you’ve got SpeedTree and know how to use it, I’m pretty sure that’s the way to go.
Thanks. I tried it out yesterday and it is pretty god like lol.
Yes it does. Just change the material to lightweight standard(sample lighting) and change the surface type to transparent.
Love your voice.
Life and work on your phone number one of my favorite song
tanks bro
Super !

Unity is so shit.
Good, everyone knows you’ll get made fun of if your game doesn’t have any trees
no
anyone know if you can prevent it autoforcing the materials? trees turns pink when using U.R.P.

Part-time unity work .students beginners can also apply 7012218126
Thanks but downloading a tree would be much easier

Uses alphas
Foliage is basically just a 2x quad with transparent image afaik
You know if is possible to animate this parameters to make a growing tree?
it doesnt work with newer Unity version, everything is missing textures
doesnt work with urp. textures are pink
crying right now

In unity 2020.3.26f1 there was no settings showing of how to change the shape flare. what can i do?
in urp material error
believe it or not, making a tree like this to work with the unity tree brush is 1000000 times easier than a low poly blocky tree...
The textures are pink when i do it like in the tutorial, i am using urp in my project how can i fix my textures for the trees
Me too, have you found the solution to this?
@@deflatedbraincell no i gave up and now i am using unreal engine
Thanks! I needed it so badly and never knew Unity had something like this built in!
Teşekkür ederim. Başarılı ve eğitici bir video olmuş.
how to remove the baground
plz how to remove that transperent thing
Thanks for this. I been trying to find something like this for months! You're a star!
thank you so much this really helped with my trees
Great tool but useless since I'm working with LWRP and URP.
Does anyone know a workaround for the pink shaders?
@@thekiwininja99 no. I made a backup before I switched to LWRP and now I'm trying to finish the game without it. For me it feels like a weird way to force the creator to purchase the speedtree licences.
Good luck with your projects.
I have unity 2019 and im missing options you have....Whole shape modifier sliders are missing !?
did you click on the branches in the graph window?
This is fantastic thanks so much
Hey, newbie here. I imported the leaf texture, but the leaf is surrounded by a black texture as well, what did I do wrong?

thanks man. good tutorial
My foliage dont align to the branchs, how can i solve this??

What about collision

Also the new version at least has tree collider in terrain options.
What type of image and adjusts i need to texture get transparent when i apply foliage?
