I think Demna should, for the future, shift away from this pseudo-critique on capitalism. It just feels really hypocritical if you are profiting so highly off of the system you‘re critiquing. With the beginnings of Vetements it felt like „we baited all these rich people into buying our stuff and supporting our art project“ but even then it quickly became „We‘re baiting all these rich people into financing our multi-million dollar company who does multiple corporate deals a year and has the Kardashians as testimonials who are literally the embodiment of overconsumption and capitalism“

@@fhtv You think so? Personally I have a bias because I don't rate Demna at all as a designer. That being said, in fashion it is almost always the designer that fucks up instead of the brand.

@@lonnylegeam i agree that this was a fuck up on the brand's side of things.. its really hard to say whats going to happen, there are so many variables involved & i doubt we'll ever know the full story. i want to give them the benefit of the doubt and just imagine that there was a major disconnect somewhere along the chain of command, but the backlash theyve been getting is crazy i wouldn't be surprised if we see some major changes soon

You overlooked Demna Balenciaga couture collection man. It's highly innovative and beautifully done. I can assume that the Fortnite and Simpson collabs etc are the funding for the couture collection, just like how the Play line funds the CDG mainline.

I really love that. In my opinion, fashion was always a social experiment, and the fact that people are buying these overpriced trash-bags and bashed up dirty shoes - tells alot about society, ALOT. Iv been really digging new Demnas Balenciaga, its just the right amount of ugly, alien and beautiful.
I think it says more that people are willing to spend 10-20K on funerals and weddings to "honor" themselves.

I think there are two sides to the Balenciaga coin. The “streetwear-ish” items like the Bernie hoodie, triple s, Simpsons, Fortnite, etc. Which are ridiculously overpriced and don’t have too much that makes them worth the price.
But then you have some of the runway and couture stuff which is beautiful and very well made. Some of these items still play heavily into the irony theme, but often have other aspects that make them more unique. I think Balenciaga still makes a lot of interesting and worthwhile things.
This is an Overton Window, just to make us little people used to what they've been doing since always and want to bring to the open
