Today we are continuing with painting and getting the 401 ready to go to the paint booth. After reattaching the doors to the airplane, we head over to 3D auto body to test out the colors we picked for the Phoenix on some test panels. Once we’re back in the hangar we get the rest of the nose primed, inside and out, and look at where the design is going on the fuselage!

Please paint it white gun grey and orange it will look amazing
That was such a random sponsor xD But whatever keeps this project moving, and I'm under the impression that a fair share of the viewers are of that age group.
@@christerbostroemyou know the sponsor will keep your project moving.
Sad that he can get an old 401 to fly again but can't get it up. 😥 lmfao here's hoping rex is as good as he says it is for sake of his wife.
Someone should paint a birdhouse behind the dash panel in memory of where this all started. Great work, guys!
Pulled a lot of nests out of that thing. Too bad there was no way to get a count-- certainly must have aced hundreds of times over. Imagine how glorious the 401 would look with nest kills painted on the side?
I like this idea
@@AugustMeteors that’s a perfect idea. They need to do this
That's actually a cool idea!
what's a dash panel?
Here’s to a quick recovery for Sam. He’s really a great person. You guys are a great inspiration! Thank you for the awesome videos!!
Thank you for your well wishes and support George
Get well soon Sam.
sams mom.
She is gonna look gorgeous. Great color combination. Being only red would be too much, but this test paint job when you imagine it on the plane. Oh yeah. Beauty.
'Do you have any tips about skiing...? Don't SKI! Stick to flying guys 🤣
Wish you a speedy recovery Sam. RRR! Triple R People. Rebuild Rescue Rules! Love you guys
Sam, you are a frackin warrior for the 4-hr. drive with the broken ribs!!! Angel on your shoulder kept you safe brother!! Heal well and heal fast!!!
Jason, did you checked if the flakes in the paint can be used in sections where you have an internal antenna, like the nose cone? Metallic paints can interfere with radio signals of the avionics. Great paint though, 401 is coming along nicely 💪🏻
The Fleming families wish Sam a speedy recovery! The 401 is looking good! Tell Joe great job on the prepping the 401! We’re looking forward to seeing it completed and flying to help many in need!
Thank you for your good wishes!
Are you related to the Fleming families in Pennsylvania?
@@johnelliott7375 No. We are the Flemings in Kansas
Let me impart some Army wisdom on the operation - "train to standard, not to time." If it means you miss Oshkosh this year but it all gets done right - so be it. First and last priority is to have a safe airplane.
Wishing a speedy recovery to Sam. PLEASE paint those awesome looking props red with white & black accents. Stay safe! ☮
Just waiting for the Live Stream Laugh-A-Thon when Sam gets back. I'm picturing a bunch of military/veteran, aviation, Rebuild Rescue, and maybe even some skiing jokes flying. Hope Sam heals quickly.
Wishing Sam a speedy recovery. So glad you learned to say Aluminium correctly Jason!
Sam, hope you have as much of a painless recovery as possible 🙏!! The 401 is starting to look good again, God Bless Y'all and I can't wait to see more!! Please try to post more but if not I understand...
Oh no!! So bummed Sam got hurt playing around in the snow - just like you did almost a year ago. Hope he gets better soon.
Probably the first video they start adding stuff instead of removing. Looking good!
Hi Jason, please pass on my best regards to Sam. Hope he is soon up and about again. Being an English man, it made me smile when you said Aluminium, or did you just say that to keep us Brits happy 🤣.
Love the colours Jason, can't wait to see the finished paint job.
Best regards
Tony
Thank you!
I love the metallic to the test panels "let the 401 Phoenix shine" great job done by all
Wow! The 401 has come a long way! My four year old son watches and rewatches your show, so from fighting to get the engines started to now adding paint is amazing!
Praying for a speedy recovery for Sam. Ouch!
Thank you for supporting us Johnson family ! We are happy you're here 👍🏻
The paint scheme that comes to my mind when I see the 401 is a deep royal blue on the bottom, a dark red stripe going along the middle, and white on the upper surfaces, looking forward to seeing some colour on it, I’ve been following this journey from the beginning all the way over here in the UK!.
On your hinge pins, chuck them up on a cordless drill and insert them as far as they will go without hitting the head then tap them in the rest of the way. You won’t risk bending the hinge pin that way.
Hey if PPG came and sponsored the paint and supplies to pain (thinner clear coat all that) man that's a SERIOUS sponsorship!! That's friggin' unbelievably helpful, I'll bet there's 3 - 4 thousand in supplies to paint that big ass thing!! Awesome!!
Wishing Sam a speedy recovery. Seems a genuinely great guy.
Hey "J" you guys are GETTING-R-DONE! Shout out to Sam for being a real trooper (get well soon) and to Joe for working like the energizer bunny.
Also...NoseCone Joe should have the first flight after the test flights are done. His work has been amazing and I love his dedication.
Blessed it brother Sam speedy recovery, old school way is missed in the hanger!!
I hope Sam gets well soon!
I can't wait to see the 401 restoration completed, so I can make a livery for MSFS with your logo on it.
Jason, did you checked if the flakes in the paint can be used in sections where you have an internal antenna, like the nose cone? Metallic paints can interfere with radio signals of the avionics. Great paint though, 401 is coming along nicely 💪🏻
Sam, heal quickly! Can't wait to see the paint get laid down. Can't wait to see it in person at Oshkosh.
Get well soon Sam lot a brusing plus your ribs good luck hope there isn't a third person goes skiing
Colours will look good the green paint will be a preservative so doesn't matter if you can't see it but it will help preserve the plane well done Joe good luck with the little dents enjoyed the video
Prayers for Sam. But, oh my goodness, I can’t wait to see the paint scheme.
Wishing Sam a speedy recovery! Love all the detail work y’all are doing, even though we won’t see it later. You’re doing the job right! Also, those paint colors are looking good. I wasn’t expecting the sparkle but it’s a nice touch. That baby is gonna shine!
Hate to hear Sam getting hurt, hope you get better. The new paint job once done is gonna be awesome!
Great to see you put the door back on! One episode after another of your show, you’re always ripping more stuff off the plane. Which is great and has been very interesting, but yay! Something got put back on!
My favourite afternoon program in the hot afternoon here in Afrika! 🇿🇦
The thing I think about is all the time wasted cleaning the interior and polishing the out side, just to figure out later that it needed new interior and new paint. I knew from the beginning that that plane needed paint and new interior. I would like to know your thoughts on this.
Get well Sam! Sending prayers out to you for a quick recovery!
It’s a far cry from where it started with biohazard stickers by the door! You guys are doing a great job and a great thing for a lot people who don’t even know it yet!
Sending Sam a speedy recovery, We should spam the hospital with toy ski's, toy 401's and flowers for the staff lol Planes going to look the business cant wait.
I am looking forward to see the paint on the plane. It will look awesome with some sparkle in it. Put some sparkle on the wings too, please.
sparkle yes, red and black looks like ass. a repaint in the future. when better taste takes over.
Have to feel good for the plane to start going back together after all this time even though it's just a door
It feels good to start the process !
Speedy recovery, prayer going your way. God Bless
I hope you get the 401 completed before I'm gone to meet my maker. God bless all of you.
hope you feel better soon Sam looking forward to seeing you back in the hangar...love and hugs from New Zealand.....and thanx Joe for all the work you put in to the priming.
the 401 is looking great!!. speedy recovery to you sam.
Glad Sam is ok-ish. No one does any more skiing until Osh-kosh. The paint job is gonna be🔥
dont take the plane near a ski resort
I cant wait until that plane has some paint and you start assembling it back! its looking amazing.
Colors look great! Praying for a speedy recovery for Sam. 🙏
Thank you!
So joe is 10 years younger since this project has come into his life ! Love to see it ! 💪
1st off I'm wishing Sam a speedy recovery he's a real trooper. I look forward to every episode been here since well before the 401. I love the detail and pride you put into your work. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see the finished product.
Like the idea having the star dust cover on the paint. Super cool can’t wait to see it.
Best wishes Sam from aviation lovers here in australia you are awesome get better soon, Love the colors .
From bird poop to glitter bomb in just over a year. That's pretty damn awesome!!
Well said!!!!
Get well soon Sam! , looking forward to seeing the 401 livery, I lost my brother 6 years ago, life is so tough but this channel always cheers me up. As an Flight simulator developer, it is good to see you guys every week. Unfortunately, i can't get a license due to medical problems. But I love this channel so much ❤️
So much pleasure to watch the process. Wishing Sam a quick and full recovery.
Thank you for your well wishes and support
I do hope Sam gets better. What you are doing is a lot of work,i hope you get more help to get the project done. Maybe you do behind the scenes, great to see you are using safety equipment gloves, masks when painting. I will tell you a saying my Drill instructor told me back in 1972 you take care of your equipment it will take care of you. Not just tools but hands, eyes, feet and head. I hope to see the plane fly and put to good use. Again let Sam know to get well and take it easy and heal at his own pace.
This is cool thanks for sharing I can't wait to see the paint job hope it white and green
The project is really coming along! Appreciate the correct pronunciation of aluminium also. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Hope for a quick recovery Sam! That bruise was gnarly!!! The black is awesome with the glass!
I've been watching the Rebuild Rescue channel from Belgium since the free abandoned airplane videos. Very interesting and entertaining. Good luck with the rest of the (re)build(s). But stay safe. Don't let Oshkosh get you in an unsafe battle against time.
Ya know just seeing those jams, painted,
Definately brings some excitement, That! Just maybe this girl will be back to her glory..
I’m getting excited with you on the 401. Colors look AWESOME Cant wait to see painted up I’m sure it will be eye candy. I want the Austin. Ps. Your livin my dream
You show more love for this plane than a mother for its child, i love it
Hope Sam gets better soon. Glad it wasn't too bad.
Hope Sam has a speedy recovery!
I’m glad Sam is fine, and the first thing I noticed with the colors is that it looks a lot like the Porsche racing colors
Was this the first parts to go back on the 401?
If so this is a great milestone. This is a time to reflect and celibate the beginning of the rise from the ashes. #PHOENIX RISING!
That’s what Jason said, so……?
@@johnnunn8688 so I commented before he said that so you felt the need to respond because…..?
@@StarBase7390, I don’t think you did because then you wouldn’t ask that question.
@@johnnunn8688 Thanks for telling me what you think I did. I’m sure theres a good reason you have a need to have this conversation but I have better things to do so have a good life. I’m going back to enjoying watching this build.
@@StarBase7390 make sure you pay attention in future.
Amazing work and love the channel. I really liked the original colours, and would be great to see them refreshed and blinged up a little, silver highlights or something. A designer could do something amazing. Would have been great to have had a vote on a number of designs.
Hope u get better fast Sam! That looks like anti fun. Good to see the smile tho.
As always guys - thanks for letting me tag along watching these videos!
Have a great one, all of you!
Thank you for being here with us ! We are glad you're enjoying the episodes👍🏻
Sam is one tough old bird. By next year, this story will probably grow from "he drove himself" to...
"he chopped down a dead pine tree, used some river rocks to make planks from it, and some vines & duct tape to make a hang glider and flew himself to the hospital. Overshot the helipad by 2 inches."
😆
I'm thinking you should do something Red/Black... like the Rebuild Rescue logo! But whatever you do... I know it'll be awesome.
It's going to shine and sparkle! I liked the old color scheme and got used to associating it with the 401. I hope that bright red is only going to be accents or stripes and not a major color, seems a bit too loud or gaudy. I'm sure it will be glamorous looking. Glad to see Sam in such good spirits despite his injuries, he's such a good sport.
I liked the green paint colour also the red & black for me is to loud green has a touch of class.
Don't do the metallic finish!
@@clivehaynes2183 my thoughts exactly! And I came to associate that classy color scheme with the whole project.
I own a red plane. I am always the first to be spotted by other traffic/tower. To avoid a mid-air collision, there is no better color!
@@claudiom4616 any color apart from think it would be 4 colors, sandy yellow, army green, white, and black. but think the safer colors are red, and orange, especially on aircraft on the ground during daylight hours.
It looks like the finished product is in sight! All the best to Sam, get well soon buddy
We are getting there 👍🏻
Things are starting to appear very promising. I am happy that you took the due diligence! Greetings from Switzerland
Thank you for your support !
@@rebuildrescue ooops! Quick recovery to Sam.
Seeing that first coat of red go on made this past year of tuning in worth it! Keep it up guys!
Thank you for believing in us, we are continuing to work hard !
It will be exciting to see it all painted with wings on! Love the work your doing...I dont care if its cleaning old nuts and bolts its all as cool to me.
If an MVP goes out on this build. It need to go out to that shop vac. I sware it has been in the most episodes with the 401.
Speedy recovery Sam, need you back on it when the 401 is back from paint!
The black paint looks amazing! The red looks almost orange on camera so no sure how true that is. But you cant go wrong with sparkle! The 401 is going to be a poster girl!
Thank you!
If I'm not mistaken, those 3M 2091 filters on your mask are designed for "additional protection from dust and particles," NOT organic vapors. Stay safe! We like having you around.
With a beard it doesn't much matter anyway ! There is no way to get a proper seal.
@@ovabarton2810 i remember going snorkeling in the Florida keys a few years ago and trying to get the mask to seal and keep the water out while i had a small beard i needed vaseline to help seal the water out
Oh my! It hurts me to see Sam in this condition. I believe he will recover soon. 🙏❤️🩹 Also, the paint colors look really nice, especially with a bit of sparkling. The 401 is going to shine bright. ✨️ Take care guys and avoid injuries. 🙌❤️
Get well Sam and thanks for the wonderful vlogs
It is hypnotizing to watch this young man do his magic painting!
Cant wait to see them colours on the plane and also send my wishes to Sam I hope he has a safe recovery and I also wanted to say you and the team are just a great inspiration to lots of people 👍
We really appreciate that, thank you for supporting us throughout this journey no matter what!
Feel better Sam! Enjoy your hospital time!( trust me, been there) thanks. The process always inspires me.
Thank you!
Colors are drop dead gorgeous! I can’t wait to see this plane finished. That little glitter just makes the colors pop! Think I am drooling…..lol
Get well soon Sam skiing abit to dangerous stick to flying..you all keep up the work.
I have a suggestion for the color scheme of the plane.
Might I recommend the fashionable color combination of Ultraviolet and Flesh Tone?
Very chic!!
Prayers for a speedy recovery for Sam
I have a friend who is a chemist at PPG, so it's quite possible that some of her work is winding up on the 401. That is awesome!
This guy Joe is one hell of dedicated person. Kudos to him.
@@lesterawilson3 regardless of that :-)
get better soon Sam we will miss you while your gone
Thank you!
I can’t wait to watch the whole series again like it’s a movie when it’s all said and done. 🎉
Thank you for supporting us Nick !
It's always a great feeling when you are done with disassembly, and are actually starting to put a project back together!! but 157 days??? you better get some more bodies if you want it done in that time frame!! loving the build tho!!
Poor Sam! Feel better fast. I like the color choices. Its going to look great at Osh Kosh.
Sam, I feel you man. Almost a month ago, I fell in my yard and shattered my C3 and C4 vertibra. I'm going to be in neck traction for up to 6 months. But, I'm alive and the neck down paralysis has gone away.
As for 401 colors, I KNEW it! That scheme is just too cool.
And yeah "I want the Austin" ( in the 401 color scheme)
And Jason, PDR is an admirable art. I've tried it and it's tough.
Awesome video again! The plane is going to look fabulous! Quick recovery to Sam from Finland!
Thank you very much for showing your support! You motivate us even in doubt! ❤️
Get well soon Mr.Sam, very courageous of you
drove that long with broken ribs,
Thank you!
It’s been a long road and finally paint is getting done. Can’t wait to see the finish.
I wish Sam a speedy recovery and hope he gets to feeling much better soon. I have to say Sam must be tough as nails driving 4 hours with broken ribs. My goodness. Love the new paint colors you selected. The added sparkles should really give the plane a very distinctive look. Take your time laying out the paint scheme on the fuselage. Its too easy to make a mistake if you get in to big of a hurry. As for the piano hinge, its true, you can chuck the rod up to a cordless drill and install the rod faster into the piano hinge, however, it does not work too well if the rod itself has a teflon sleeve over it. Keep up the great work guys!
love the series. I started watching it when he was trying to start the engines up.
It’s asmr level enjoyable.
Thank you for being here since the beginning Steve, we are happy you're apart of the Rescue Crew
prayers for a speedy recovery Sam
Red, White And Blue!!!! Just like our Flag. That would stand out and be an honor to our Vets!
