The Free Abandoned Airplane finally gets it's new wings installed! It's been almost a year since we removed the wings off of the Cessna 401 and now were putting them back on! Josh Blair from @Blaircraft.Engines stopped by to help along with Bob and Max from our Utah adventure video. It was multiple days and tons of problems, but the wings are on!

This was a huge step for the project… It was great to be available to help make it happen!
Couldn't ask for a better team 👍🏻 Thank you for your help Brother
@@rebuildrescue Can you believe it's been just over two years already? We've come a long from some weirdo down at the end of the tarmac just trying to get to the spark plugs with all the bird stuff in the way...
Cheers mate 🍻
This is such a big step for the 401. As far as the tribute to Elaine...I'm not crying, you are. ❤️
Huge milestone and tribute to Elaine!
Elaine is one in a million. She touched so many lives with her light and love. What an incredible tribute. ❤
I've been watching your videos on the 401 for over a year now and just recently discovered your hanger is 5 min from my house. I'd love to take my daughter to see this puppy fly when the day comes !!!!
The Phoenix has her 1st angle!
Prayers to you sir, and thank you Rebuild Rescue (all of you) for this gesture. Brought tears to my eyes.
Great milestone completed and an awesome team!
Angel not angle
A huge milestone getting the wings installed. With your heavenly co-pilot onboard, the Phoenix will soar again soon. Great job from a great team.
Good job guys!
Thank you!
Also love your channel Brother…. Would love to connect with you !
Jason@RebuildRescue.com
I had to smile and let out a little chortle when I saw the tell tale black and orange colors of the tape measure… Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) tape measure to put on a wing. It only goes to show, the best tape is the one in your hand. I can’t wait to see the phoenix rise again.
The wings are on very much enjoy this video one more step closer the end was a tear full ending but you can bet she is looking down with a big smile on her face knowing she will be flying with you all for ever 😢
So much good stuff to come, running lines and cables and connections for the wings, mounting the engines, running lines and cables in the interior, hardware and gauges, can't wait. I'm going through stuff with my teeth that probably won't get fixed so it's good to see Joe getting his fixed. Great to see that not only are you giving back to those around you but honoring the ones lost. Great to see how far you've come since the first episode where you were only trying to get an engine to fire having no idea where this was going to lead.
All of us here at the channel appreciate your positivity and support, having supporters like you is why we are able to keep motivated and focused. Let's get this done together!
@@rebuildrescue Absolutely, thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes, lots of fine details ahead!
Wow the wings are on . One of the best videos yet. Seems like it wasn't all that long ago
that you took the old ones off. Having that co pilot was so neat. That was a very humbling moment. Sooper cool.
Glad you enjoyed it, we appreciate your message Gary!
Agreed!
This is huge! Wings on at last. Quite a milestone. I've been watching the whole 401 thing from Australia. So much talent to make it happen. Thanks.
Thank you for believing in the 401 and us👍🏻
Agreed. Huge milestone!
What an amazing milestone the First Angel was a member of the team, partaking in reconnecting Phoenix with her new wings.
This episode sums up what this restoration represents & the Rebuild Rescue community is all
about.
Blessing to all 🙏
Agreed!
Thank you for your kind message, we will continue to work hard in the name of those we love and for everyone involved and supporting!
Great job to all! As an A&P IA since the 70’s, I’ve hung a few pair of twin Cessna wings, some are smooth, some are frustrating. You guys did wonderful! Hats off to you all!
Thank you David!!!
Appreciate the comment as an AP/IA. It wasn’t easy but went well overall, great team. It is also looking great!
That these line up this well is wonderful. Great job.
You got me with the co-pilot decal. Congratulations on a huge win getting those wings on without a reciprocating saw. So glad to be able to tag along on this journey. ☮
Thank you Brother, we all really appreciate the love !
Just wanted to say outstanding job to all for getting those wings installed. The bullet alignment tool comes in real handy. I've made several of them many times. Jumbling the wing around in different directions always helps line up bolt holes surprisingly. Putting the wing bolts in the freezer helps shrink the metal so they fit in the holes easily. Same also works wonders when installing bearings. Another trick I would do is spray the bolts with zink oxide and install the bolts wet. This will protect the bolts from corrosion, particularly from bi-metal corrosion where two dissimilar metals come together. I would recommend torque sealing the bolts to insure they don't move. Makes 100 hour/Annual inspections go a little smoother. Being an old A&P mechanic, my experience has been some wings go on fairly easy and others will fight you to the end no matter what. I have installed a lot of wings over the years whether its a general aviation aircraft or vintage warbirds. Congratulations on achieving this milestone in your restoration. Keep up the great work!
Jason, what an amazing and touching video. The Elaine sticker had everyone choked up, I'm sure. This had to be the most satisfying videos to produce for this project. I would imagine the only one to compare so far would be getting the 2nd engine to fire up. It's been a long road with many obstacles, but the journey seems to be nearing the end. The shear relief of seeing the Phoenix with her new wings had to be very emotional. (Lt. Dan, you got new legs!!!) This has to be my favorite video to date. Hope it gets 10 Million views.
So excited to see the final product.
It has been such a journey! We have more to go, but the things we've learned together and the people we've met, including you guys here on the channel, have made every day worth it . Thank you for being apart of the Rebuild Rescue Family
Long journey with a great milestone!
You're my inspiration. I have followed the channel from day one. I am embarking on a similar project in Zambia. All the best.
Awesome! Thank you for following along, keep us updated on your project ! 👍🏻
Awesome. Good luck with your project as well! Embrace the process!
You can tell the plane wants to fly again. Though your collective will to see it through will make it able to do so again.
It’s looking whole again. 💪🏻
Great team work, so pleased you had some bolts that were easier to slide in, at last! My husband and I love checking in with you all each week and wow that was a tear jerking ending, an amazing sentiment.
Hope Smiley Joe is seeing the light at the end of the dental tunnel. Take care all from Em and Dave in the UK. 😉🙂
Class Act with the Co-Pilot name on plane! You have the right spirit and heart to do this rebuild. God Bless you all.
29:10 Absolutely amazing sound effects! Mind blowingly good. Oscar winning foley artist right there brother.
😂😂🤣
All it takes is allot of great people helping together. Nice to see the wings on!
I have had my concerns at times in the beginning to be sure, that you probably didn't "truly understand" the complexity of the job that was ahead of you all.
The with mad rush to paint the fuselage, a prime example. but, I will also say to you all, that from that project "re-set" point, the project has got a lot more relistic in its goals and outlook.
I'm genuinely impressed by the team's determination and dedication as the project continues to mature.
I will also tell you that I'm strangely emotional for all of you after your latest instalment today.
This is the "end of the beginning", and you should all be very proud of yourselves.
It's now the beginning of the end now, for this fantastic project.
You still have a ton of work left to do, but the aircraft will now start to accelerate and come on in leaps and bounds as you start to re-install the various sub-systems, such as the electrical system and the engines etc, and breed new life back in to the aircraft once again.
I tell you, the day you finallv plug electrical ground power onto the aircraft for the first time, following the rebuild, is going to truly be the day that the aircraft will finally, "truly" come to life again, and that day will be a massive leap closer for you all.
Gordon Fraser.

It will be flying in no time. Awesome job guys. Props from Portugal.
Definitely a great team effort!
I thought that the props were from England. 😁😁😁
Also cool props from the Philippines 💞💞
My father was a great mechanic, and an Air Force E-9 in avionics. All your effort reminds me of his projects, and I am glad you guys are pushing this forward.
However much work and time you put into this however, it pales beside the work you do with people. From honoring the co-pilot, to helping Joe, including Sam, to thanking and encouraging everyone who contributed, to dedicating this plane to flying on behalf of people who need it. More than all the troubleshooting and tool work I learned from my dad, the most important lesson he ever showed me was that a true leader takes care of his or her people, and I appreciate seeing you display that admirable trait.
Lots of work, great milestone!
I know the spirit of Elaine will be there blessing that plane all throughout. You'll have the best co-pilot anybody could ask for.
Good to see the 401 looking like an aircraft again
It was a big day for all of us ! Thank you for watching !
Yes… it’s looking closer to whole again!
You've all blessed this aeroplane, now I feel honoured to have been able to see that happen every week, truly amazing, Thank you all for your videos.
The viewers are the people who keep us motivated and remind us why we are doing this in the first place. Thank you for being that support we need. Let's get this 401 in the air together!
What a touching tribute. Rip Elaine. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
You made me cry at the end Jason, glad to see the 401 had her 🪽 back and an amazing first name on.
Cancer sucks hopefully one day there will not be a need for cancer care flight's.
It is so awesome seeing the wings on and that wonder tribute you made for Elaine.
Love you Elaine ❤ hopefully the Last name can be fixed when the final vinyl is placed to “Cloward” ☺️
Wow, I have to say Max handled that with diplomacy and grace.
The Decal company had misspelled it and we all noticed it and fixed it right after the video was shot. Thank you for letting us know
Great stuff as always, coming together for sure- starting to be able to see the finish line! Have a great weekend brother-
Thank you for your constant support Brother, it means the world 👍🏻
Congratulations on a monumental milestone. Great teamwork! Great camera work! Touching tribute to Elaine.
Thank you Steve
That commemorating his late wide was awesome. You are a good man, bro. Real talk.
I appreciate that, thank you for commenting Brother
@rebuildrescue anytime bro. I can't wait to see the 401 complete
Wow! What an honor to Elaine's memory! I don't know any of ya'll and was still choked up. A worthy project that I cannot wait to see complete.
After watching them come off. I was certain that putting them back on was going to be a nightmare. Great work with the details!
Everyone loves fresh frozen bolts. Much better than those old, room temperature ones.
😂👍🏻
Especially with a good frosting of CPC.
Most excellent!
I’ve been an A&P mechanic since 1966. I remember a Cessna 421 wings install (in 1973) that also took three days. The satisfaction of knowing there was no metal shaved out those attach holes and then all the bolts torqued up properly is very satisfying. Nice job.
Key takeaways in your comment "no metal shaved out those attach holes". These are not just "bolts" these are close tolerance fasteners. This is when you curse the guy who got FR primer spray inside the holes as well as the mating surfaces. Machine faced ailment pins (near mirror finish) you all called bullets. Think of tooling pins. You want it to be tight and precise. Seeing ball peen hammers and screwdrivers was cringe worthy for me.
Gives you a great appreciation for the Cessna workers that built the 400 series aircraft.Even the production line had to shim things to make it all fit.
"Anniversary" always meant something different to us, in my generation.
(And, yes, I have a 51-year-old daughter who has been married for 29 years.)
>>> Happy anniversary 🎉 to my daughter!
What an amazing achievement. This episode really brought together the ultimate reason the project is a success. Bringing people together and paying tribute to those watching over us. Well done, Rebuild Rescue Team.
Exciting milestone and great see everything that went into this episode.
I love humanitarianism. The world seems to be lacking and this channel is a breath of fresh air. I've been following this project since the start and can't wait till it is complete.
Exciting to see her almost ready to fly! And what a beautiful gesture to have that decal made with Elaine's name on there! Very heartfelt. ❤
Thank you for your positivity, we are glad you enjoyed the episode
Great achievement, wings on!!!
The wings and gear down is huge!
Wow now it looks like an aeroplane, well done guys.
Well done guys, well done! Everytime The Phenix takes to the air, she will be closer to Elaine ❤
What an AWESOME video! Seeing the wings go on is really bringing this MAJOR project together! Such an awesome team you have put together Jason, and such hard workers, including yourself. I LOVE this project and have been following it since your very first video. So exciting! I look forward to every episode.
Thank you so much for your dedication to the 401! We couldn't do any of this without you guys, and the support is so motivating❤️👍🏻
The 401 looks so good now with the wings on ceep up the good work. Looking forward for the next episode
Thank you for watching and supporting Travis!
Agreed, it’s looking great!
So excited to see when Joe gets his new smile! I can't wait for that "reveal". Go Joe! Wings back on, awesome! You guys are making solid progress and I love it! I will watch to the end and I can't wait to see the 401 fly! I want to see you finish the Yacht too. You are hitting on all my favorite things on your channel. 😁
This is Amazing too see the new rebuilt wings being put on the 401. I have watched since the day you worked on getting this bird 🐦 started. It's been a incredible journey every week I look forward too. The tribute to Elaine was very touching & tearful. I know she in Heaven very touched. You guys are warriors on this project. You are in my prayers. It's funny when I tell people about Rebuild Rescue I say, I have some friends that are Rebuilding a 401 twin engine air plane for Rescue Sevices. I know we have never met but you all have a big place in my heart ❤. I can't help call you friends! I am so proud of what you all have accomplished so far. God Bless you! See ya next week! 😉
Huge Progress!!
We appreciate your positivity Sean👍🏻
Good to see this!! Successfully picked up my free airplane and starting to bring it back to life.
Slowly but surely !!
@@rebuildrescue Thank you guys for the inspiration. Starting with new cables and finishing with new paint, updated engine, and prop. Hopefully, finished by next year at the latest. The Phoenix is going to look so good!!
A great big effort from all the guys. I am not sure if I have said this before, but I am watching this from England. So it will be great to see it fly on video, if that's possible. When you have it all finished. And ready to fly! 🙂
100% !!
The day of first flight… That will be something to watch more than once!
Have followed the rebuild of the 401 from day 1, that was quite an emotional speech Jason. I really look forward to seeing the rescue missions especially animal rescues. I am passionate about animal welfare so for you guys to use the 401 for these types of rescues, as well as many others I am truly grateful. Please accept a small donation to help these missions come alive. Great work done by all, truly a team effort.
Big milestone and big plans ahead!
Great to see the Phoenix has its wings again. Extremely touching moment adding your copilot inscription to the fuselage. Love the video.
Thank you for your kind message, we are glad you're here with us and enjoyed the episode.👍🏻❤️
Way to GO Crew...Great Job!
Love Saturdays. Best show anywhere. Thank you for everything you all do and to Mrs. Elaine, glad you are with us 🙏🏽
Thank you for spreading positivity on the channel Brother, good to have you here
Am I the only one who teared up seeing the 401 with the wings on and the gear down? Also teared up when they were talking about Elaine. RIP Elaine. 🙏
It was a very heartfelt and emotional moment for all of us, we are glad she is forever apart of the 401 memory.
Rebuild Saturday!!!! Woop woop!!!!!
😂 Thank you for stopping by this morning James
I can see how much this means to you Jason and I’m so happy for you. What a momentous achievement to be here now. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
Thank you for your overwhelming support! Everyone here at Rebuild Rescue appreciates your positivity👍🏻
I swear my wife starting cutting some onions at the end of the episode. Such a great episode!
A Bird Without Wings...Is A Sad Thing...Great Job Ya'll ! Thanks For Sharing.
Thanks for watching👍🏻
@@rebuildrescue Been Here Since The Start, Hope To See You And The Others Flying And Smiling !
Still hooked, been watching from day one. Excellent work guys
Day one supporters mean so much to all of us here, thank you for keeping the faith ❤️
the wings are going back on!!! man this plane is just about ready to hit the sky again, exciting!
We are happy you're excited with us, thank you for being apart of the Rescue Crew Brother !
Good job guys. Remembering how tough it was to remove the wings, I wasn't expecting such a smooth re-installation. Especially with some other plane's wings involved.
So good job for Cessna as well. I'm amazed how well these are built to specs 👍
This series is an illustration of what it means when something is totalled. Totalled means repair cost exceed replacement value. The skilled labor hours, unskilled labor hours, equipment, and lastly parts needed, not to mention the hangar space taken up to do this, is mind blowing. totalled this aircraft 5 times over.
It is awesome to see a community come together and awesome to see the wings on and the 401 sitting almost on its own weight again. I was crying when putting the first name on, lost my mother to cancer three years ago, it’s hard for me but it has been harder for my father, they were married 44 years. Great job on the hard work y’all have done on getting the Phoenix one step closer to flying again keep up the good work.
I am excited seeing it get this far, cant wait for the engine installation.
Your dedication to the channel means the world Brother, thank you for being here with us
This has been my favourite episode so far. It was very exciting getting those wings back on, and that tribute was amazing, that's one of the reasons I like this channel so much.
Your support means a lot to us John, thank you for the kind message!
Wow you made a grown man tear up my mom is fighting cancer as we speak. Thank you for the content and what you do. You have a fan for life....
All of us here at Rebuild Rescue will keep you and your mother in our prayers Brother. Thank you for being apart of our family
A brilliant episode and a lovely tribute to Elaine well done rebuild rescue 🎉
Thank you, we appreciate it.❤️
Great video! Major steps made in so many ways. 👍🏻👍🏻
This has become a Saturday morning tradition with my kids. We put rebuild rescue on, make and eat brunch and marvel at the progress you guys are making. Keep up the good work.
That's awesome ! Thank you guys for being apart of the Rescue Crew, it means the world to all of us !
As always, it is great to follow along. This has been a total unique thing at least from my point of view on RUclips. The way you just brings everyone in on it and what you guys do for the people around you and the plan and vision for this plane and the yacht and everything- it brings back hope that the world can be a better place.
Its great to tag along. I love to see stuff being pulled apart, made nice and put back together again. Doesn't matter if its a plane, car or a yacht. And when you bring so many in on the action it just becomes a unique thing for me. World need less drama and more rebuilds hahaha.
I used to restore and mod cars in another life, and would love to do it again but I'm uncertain if thats ever gonna be possible again because of unexpected health issues (the wheelchair kind of issues), so to be able to sit here and watch a bunch of people like you doing this every Saturday - to me its not just enjoyable but its a part of the week I really look forward to.
Thanks!
T.G.I.R.R.S. ==== THANK GOD ITS REBUILD RESCUE SATURDAY

Well Done Boys
I get more and more excited with every piece that goes back on. And I remember back when the shopvac was the MVP of most episodes..lol keep up the great work guys.
Great episode, one step forward. Fantastic to see "Supervisor Sam" make a guest appearance!
So happy to see the wings back on, my wife is going through a cancer battle of her own so the tribute to Elaine has me in absolute tears. So touching Jason you are an awesome awesome human 👏👏👏
It's a huge jump to see him back on the air, Fantastic job and an amazing team.
Thank you
This is huge for sure, a great team effort!
I cant wait to see Joe's new grill. I hope that first steak and salad is an awsome experience finally due to the man. He seems to be the nicest guy youd ever meet.
One of the best episodes to date. Productively was great, full length vid, and priceless ending.
Love your work from Australia
Awesome! Thank you! We hope you enjoy todays episode 👍🏻
Great job. As someone battling grade 3 Brian cancer. And have followed along every step of this Journey. This Brought tears to my eyes. Keep up the good work. Also a long time sprint car fan. And aviation nut. Would love to meet the team at some point.

The Rebuild Rescue crew was great to work with. Unfortunately I missed work day three, looking forward to seeing it in person on the gear myself.
That dedication to his late wife was BEAUTIFUL
We appreciate that, it means a lot to all of us
I have always been fascinated by airplanes and over the years, I've given up on my quest to get my PPL but this project has rekindled my love for it and I might actually be going back. Thank you so much for this... Cant wait to see it in the sky.
WOW, What an episode! I absolutely LOVED IT!!! 😀❤️❤️❤️. This has been so long in the waiting but all new parts and HUGE peices of the aircraft going back on. Grats Joe by the way 👍👍👍 So exciting what's happening with the 401.
This cannot be understated "GREAT WORK GUYS!!!!" Best wishes from Australia!!
Wow! Beautiful! Had me choked up at the end. ❤❤
Great work gents!
Thank you so much!
Great team for sure!
So excited to see this bird fly... just lost my dad a combat veteran to stage 4 lung cancer... he was my super hero. Godd miss him so much...
I have to commend Jason . ❤️ He has the biggest heart.❤️ well done guys such an achievement this episode.
I hope you are going to have Phil do all the runup if not first flight...that man no doubt proud of what you and the hole team are doing... great job everyone....
Great job guys this was a huge step and you guys aced it. Personally I was worried after seeing how hard the wings were to get off and putting different wings back on seemed kinda another challenge. Quality control at Cessna came through an you guys hard work made it happen. Great video Congratulations. Big hurdle jumped!!!
Great episode, well done on the wings, brilliant tribute to Elaine ❤
Thank you!
Man! Best episode on the 401 Thus Far! Really love the tribute!
Wow, thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed 👍🏻
That's amazing to have Elaine's autograph to go on the 401. Great idea
Been following since the beginning of this build series. And by far it’s been the longest series I’ve devoted time to invest myself in. Maybe not in any real financial way, but seeing what memories this have created for you, other people and loved ones is incredible. It’s a real homage to the words rebuild rescue. I mean you are rebuilding peoples lives to find some comfort and peace, and rescuing the memory of those people to not be forgotten and instead be known and be cared for. It’s an amazing process you have done so far. I’m proud of you and the guys who work on this project, plus the camera men gotta give the camera man respect for god like angles.
If you read this comment, thank you I’ve truly enjoyed watching the story of the 401 unfold to save it from abandonment, find it’s story, and to repurpose the plane to find a better way of life for it to live on. I know I’m still new to this but keep the work going man it’s great. 👍
