Hi guys - Simon here from Kingsley amps and pedals... super nice video Dan and Mick (as per usual)! Small note on the Constable about the bright switch (demonstrated around 13:05-ish) - the bright switch affects Vol1 only and adds different value caps across the Vol1 pot...however, it will be much more apparent at lower Vol1 settings and kind of hard to hear when Vol1 is set that high....just as on a real plexi amp - the sound is quite bright at low Vol1 positions and progressively darker as Vol1 is turned up. Another small note: this is the V1 Constable. Only making V2 now (same sort of sounds but different feature set, like two foot-switchable Master volumes). Thanks so much for featuring our pedal - you guys are the best!
Hey Simon! Cheers for the info. We would be the best if we could get stuff right! Hahaha!!! Constable sounding killer as usual. Hope you’re well mate and things are good. :0)
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Mr. Steinhardt, it is an absolute privilege to watch your ear at work, dialing in sounds between the Kingsley, Revival, and Sheriff. I've been a pro player and sound engineer for over 25 years and I learn things from these videos every single time! My guitar sound has improved immensely since your show has existed, and it's thanks to your and Mick's supreme talent and knowledge. Hats off, my friend!
And it's free! Amazing. I've learned more thanks to these chaps than from people selling the products or the information you can get on the official websites of these products. Best gear show on the planet!
+1 for Gary Stackhouse. I also went to Audio Recording School, and consider myself as a Musician / Producer and I Learn Something from . . . every single episode. Its a phenomenal show. They do an Amazing job, delivering such valuable information.
29:00 This sent shivers down my spine. I came for the Plexi shootout, but to hear Dan say that a few years ago... wow! Fast forward to today, two days since the great Eddie Van Halen passed away just brings tears to my eyes. Right on, Dan, he was was that great indeed.
Constable sounded the most authentic to me in terms of amp drive. The Sheriff ( I’m a Sheriff 44 user)and the Revival sounded more drive pedal sounding to my ears. Not feeling the Revival at all, particularly for a pedal at that price point. However, I thought the Sheriff directly into the front sounded amazing and really saved the day for me, as I could never be arsed with the four cable method .You could tell Dan was feeling the Sheriff into the front, as his playing seemed to go up a notch towards the end. Very good episode.
I thought Fender had made a ‘That Pedal Show Mirror Image Delay’. Then I thought ‘nah, it’s just a sticker’. Then I realised it’s just the icon on the screen... Great show as usual 👍
Dudes! Jacques here, thank you for the mention @ 30:20 :) I hope you're all okay during these troubling times.. The ol' Royer has seen a lot of use during the past few weeks let me tell ya!
Kingsley wins for me, pure vintage Marshall. When Dan had his Les Paul plugged in and both the volume knobs set at maximum it was pure Thin Lizzy. You missed a trick not playing a bit of Jailbreak ;-) Fantastic stuff as always chaps
As soon as I heard the first chord of the show I was like “wow! They’ve upped their tone game today! Wonder what is different?” Of course, Royer Ribbon Microphone. Makes all the difference. Also, Dan’s point about micro-watt tube amps is on the money. I have a Zvex Nano and it is blisteringly good but so revealing. I’d love to see you do a show shooting out wet dry wet with a Zvex Nano, a Wangs 1-watt head and maybe some other 1-watt tube job. It would be a hoot. Or maybe compare a full on 1-watt amp with a bigger amp with a 1-watt mode. Or even try the 1-watt amp into the Fryette Power Station to see if the tone translates to allow you to gig the 1-watt amp. Lots of ideas.
"Better still, go and find somebody you like and spend real human time with them. It really is better than watching RUclips." True. However, my son is with his mother this weekend (joint custody), it is raining cats and dogs (my girlfriend will not go out in the rain), I am putting on a big pot of chicken tortilla soup after a long week, and I get to watch/listen to TPS while cooking. I could not imagine a more enjoyable way to spend my Friday night under the circumstances. Oh, and today is NGD (New Guitar Day)! I picked up an excellent Squier CV '50s Telecaster to see what the fuss is all about. Two things: Mick, something has got you worked up, I think. When you were handling all the video production, you got stressed out. You hired Simon and it was like you had an intravenous hit of chill. When TPS was too loud for the neighbors, you got stressed out. You found and instituted Schwangrila and you spread out and took a deep breath. I could be waaay off base and over-stepping, but I, for one, truly care about what happens to you guys. Trust me, I have a great life, full of people, but you and Dan are very cool, influential dudes and I only wish you the best. The only time I have seen Dan stress was when he had to play quietly through the board - his face looked like he had accidentally bitten into something really bad. Secondly, I am curious how a true preamp pedal would work in front of the Fryette Power Station. It is essentially a very clean, uncolored tube power section - correct? Would it be very sterile? If it works, that would be a pretty cool, portable, inexpensive, versatile rig. Or, would this be an example of trying to make something perform a function it was never intended to perform and the Fryette doesn't sound good in this application?
Thanks for the concern William. You’re right, I am stressed - i haven’t had a day off in weeks and there’s no sign of one any time soon. Just very busy trying to earn a living //and// keep this expanded hobby on the rails. It would be great if the latter could do the former, but we’re a way off that. Anyway, thank you! More interestingly, the preamp pedals would work great into something like the Fryette. Cheers!
Hello ladies! TPS time again! It's usually so fun watching you guys that even though I'm a studio manager and deal with all sorts of musical gears on a daily basis but can't miss your shows! Cheers!
I love how every time when I have a TPS video on in the background and I hear a sound I just love and need to know what it is, its a strat 😂 Admittedly I mostly play a SSS EB Cutlass, so this is no surprise to me.
I am surprised that people are not throwing a fit about these pedals that are named after different law enforcement officials. Oh, how I miss the age of common sense, when people new that good guys were good and bad guys were bad. On an unrelated note, I just picked up the V4 Kraken... absolute stunning. Carry on.
Mick, I'm 46 and have been playing guitar since I was 19. Sometimes, you get sick of the guitar. It's okay. You just need to take a break from it. You probably know this. I then listen to music rather than play it for a while, and then I get re-inspired. All the best.
What this video has probably proved to me is that I'm really not a pre-amp pedal into cleaner power amp setting guy. I didn't really dig any of the three in this context. I'm really more into non-master volume amps on the edge of clipping (small amps these days) being nudged and shaped by boosts and OD's. I'm all about that nuanced interaction between pedal > amp preamp > amp power amp > speaker. I guess it's possible that I'd like what these preamps more were they running into an output stage and and speaker set-up that mirrored more what I'm into.
I’m literally waiting on my revival custom pedal to be delivered by UPS today! I can’t wait to take it through my Orange Crush 20 (practice amp), Blackstar HT Stage 60 combo, and my brand new 2525H Jubilee (with matching 2x12 cab from sweetwater) and see what that beast can really do! In the meantime, all I can do is just watch RUclips videos on it!!! The other thing you gotta remember about the Revival is that besides being able to be an extremely accurate representation of an awesome vintage plexi, it will also do awesome immolations of vintage fenders, AC 30’s and many other vintage historical amps. More expensive?... yes but much more bang for your buck. I will say this, holy crap all 3 pedals sound phenomenal!
A preamp pedal is not normally something I will spend much time thinking about because I am mostly playing my Princeton, lately, and similar low watt amps. Not a lot of head room, and more difficult than you’d think to dial in a sweet spot with pedal/guitar combos. However, so many of the shows you guys have produced have contributed to my headspace when it comes to using pedals and amps, that I will watch any of them. I will not have experience with as many varied types of gear as you guys. It is great to see and hear it all. One thing I have figured out for my own rig is related to pickups: A tele pick-up between 7k and 7.3 (also a 9.5k or above with 43g wire), a Humbucker in the 7.8k range…I can get anything dialed in with those. Higher or lower and it’s uninspiring. My Strat pups are 5.8k…they are a great deal more finicky about what they are used with; and they sounds best either clean, or saturated. Nothing great in between. FWIW. Mick, best wishes on your quest for inspiration. It’ll come. You’re only a guitar away.
I know what Mick means about his Strat. I love mine, a Hahn 229, but every now and then I hear another Strat and all of a sudden mine seems inadequate. This happened recently hearing Chris Buck play a vintage Strat. I was thinking "that's so woody and open, mine's all wrong". But they all sound different, there are so many variables. If you loved it once, it was for a good reason
I picked up a Wangs Mini 5 watt tube amp. It is like Dan said (at about 47 min.) such detail and clarity... I "feel" like I am "seeing" my playing under a microscope. I can "hear" my 'finger prints on the strings' due to so much detail. By the way, I love that Wangs Mini 5 amp for home use... such clarity and response. (I am playing it into an Electro Voice 15L speaker in a TL606 cabinet.)
Awesome video guys as always. The Revival Drive does it for me, but I might be biased as I own one lol. Having spent many hours with mine (I run it straight into the front end of my Boogie Mark 5:25) it has just become so apparent how versatile it is. It just makes my Strat, Les Paul and Ernie Ball Musicman JP6 sing. For Simon to create such an amazing pedal without having to use valves is testament to his genius. Super excited to see how many pro boards its appearing on including Mr Joey Landreth.
Yep! Southern Sons Drummer was Virgil Donati (who used to be in a Melbourne Jazz Rock Fusion band called Loose Change. Virgil is ambidextrious in all 4 limbs, and keeps in top condition practicing Tai Chi).
Dan, you're think of Virgil Donati in Southern Sons. Excellent point at around 30:00 Mick. The signal chain after the amp and the production choices dramatically affects the sound of any instrument, but especially the guitar.
interesting what Mick says about not enjoying playing and struggling a little bit, this was just after playing the Hiwatt really loud.. I've found exactly the same thing if I have had a session of playing a really loud amp.. its almost like it knocks my equilibrium or something off for a few days.. its takes a bit of time to recover.. I seriously believe that.
Mick it sounds like you need a complete reset. I say, once you find the new guitar you do a ritual burning of the blue Strat on TPS and send it to Valhalla. You will be reunited in the afterlife. Too much? In any case don't over think it, you play great. I did like the John Frusciante bit.
Holy shit - Mick's looking for a new Strat?! I'm in a similar boat. I've got one. And it's been my primary guitar for going on 17 years or so. And while I absolutely love it, I need some variation in my life. I'd love to see a video about the process you're using to find the new instrument and get a bit of insight into what you look for in a Strat. I'll bet there's a wealth of info to be had on the subject!
Robert, me too. Twenty years with mine, and now I'm building my ideal strat from USACG, Callaham, Bare Knuckle, etc. It was the only way to get the spec I wanted, short of ordering a custom build from Fender for a lot more money. I'll be interested to see Mick's criteria too.
That Gretsch should have a ground wire on the bigsby where the strap pin is. Not crazy difficult to install. A nice subject to cover on pedals like this would be how 'familiar' you can get a sound from them by running them into a SS power amp or sound system or the like. Good video, have a nice day.
...crack (loosen a tad) those neck bolts on your strat while tuned then retighten bolts and tune again...a change in diet can effect what you sweat and that can change your string sound lol...seasonal changes...top frequencies fade to grey as we do...emotional states...somedays I can’t get that sound or vibe from any of my gear......then I can watch an hour or so episode of That Pedal show and it’s all sweet...thank you...sweeeet......#whoshottheSheriff...#gotdoneDrivingRevival......I’m not C#@t Drunkstable...🤠...🎸😎✌🏻
I think military spec is often misunderstood. Sometimes they're built to higher tolerances or requirements but for common/ non critical applications they were also often just built to budget. Stuff was regularly maintained in a way consumer applications weren't and they could buy in massive bulk. Even in audio systems, sometimes they were even built knowingly to perform 'worse' than consumer versions in exchange for even further increased ruggedness and reliability. Kind of like saying a tank is a military spec car, doesn't make it better for your application. No doubt there's a lot of good mil spec stuff out there but I feel it's becoming a buzz word for 'better' when it really shouldn't.
I'm a little late to the game here but... having just done my own A/B test of the Sheriff and the Constable, the Constable wins. The Sheriff is no slouch - it's a great sounding, versatile, and well built device. But the Constable has a clarity, definition, and presence that the Sheriff lacks (at least to my ears and within my rig). Realistically, you can't go wrong with either. But if you're on the fence and can handle the wait-time, go for the Constable. You won't regret it. If you're in Canada, it's better bang-for-the-buck too.
I use a Constable with a Radial BigShot EFX effects loop switcher to go between my amp's pre, the constable, and the pre with the constable. Constable really shines pushing the power section. Which is why I use an attenuator. And as if that wasn't enough cables I'm running an external 1x12 cab. A lot of this insanity is TPS's fault.
Great ep guys.....the Victory Sheriff is stunningly good and at $350USD its less than half the cost of the Kingsley and the Revival - very good product innovation.
It strikes me that sometimes the real quality lies within the so called tangents. It's like when the "complementary" guitar part in a jam ends up the main part of a new song. Looking forward to the "falling in and out of love with the guitar-episode" Take care! Cleanish sounds from the Victory was great in my opinion, by the way
Great show guys, all three sound great. Mick don't give up on the blue strat it sounds fantastic. Take it for a Plek, that will whip that puppy back in to shape.
Hey @royerlabs!!!!!! Loved the Tim Pierce video but I'm betting not everyone here saw it and here be the influencers......TPS isn't some retail store flogging far east firewood guitars online its the MOST legit muso-trusted youtube authority/audience that actually buy gear......courier over a few 121's for the boys NOW PLEASE!!!!
Great ep! Wow, Dan, you're a pedal wizard, cool to see how you get those three (difficult) pedals sound so close to each other (27/28:00), in just a few re-configurations. Mick, good luck with your quest for a new guitar!
The 3 are great preamps, though because the Revival is so surgical, I'd go for that... So one side I have a saggy Fender Bassman sound, and on the other I can have an over the edge Fender Blackface sound. That way I can stack gain either with the Revival footswitch or with a D&M Drive
Keep in mind guys...the thing that is missing from the real plexi scenario is the sound of the phase inverter and power tubes dimed. If you plug all of these pedals into a plexi return dimed and isolated obviously you 'd get much closer.🙂
Constable - I think I would use as a preamp to run other pedals into, I.e turning an amp into a plexi "pedal platform" Victory - gig ready, really cool that you can have your amps clean sound too. Revival drive - not sure yet, would be great in a studio context that you could dial in some killer sounds, more versatile. Just my thoughts.. for whatever they are worth! Great video, can never be too long :)
HEY GUYS! my dream guest to be on your show other than mr j. mayer would have to be jesse davey and for him to bring in his full line of pedals for you guys to play with. what a show that would be! there would be some great tones for sure.
It sounds good but compared to a lot of the standard transistor based pedals you have shown it seems to lack any dynamics??? It has that sound you get with a big tube amp with volume down too low.
On the subject of guitars feeling wrong - the humidity in the UK this summer has generally been very high with not much let up. It is playing havoc with guitar necks all over, I understand. The only guitar I have which appears to have escaped unscathed is a humble Danelectro. Everything else has needed truss rod adjustments at some point.
Ah so it's not just me ! My rock solid tele neck has suddenly gone wonky this summer and I couldn't work out why....gonna have to do a little bit of tweaking I reckon.
Very nice tones today gentlemen!!! As much as I am fond of all 3 pedals and the tones produced if I had to pick I would ultimately have to go with the constable..there’s just something about it. It has that thing that is oh so sweet. Mick- I suggest you try moving away from those familiar guitars and try something completely different like say a telecaster, Jaguar, les Paul etc. to reignite your falling back in love with your babies....just for a brief time. On a gig or at home. Great show as always!!! Cheers!!!!
Love your honesty Mick. I would find any of these pedals useful. I give a slight edge to the Kingsley Constable for the kinds of vibe I get from my Marshall amps. Origin and Victory Pedal seem to have more brightness, but the Kingsley has more of the depth. Note: In the States, these pedals are the same price as Marshall's new Origin and DSL amps. I love my recently acquired Origin 20H. One of these pedals would make this amp more versatile. The Victory V4 option of hitting the amp on the front or the loop would be the most functional in this application.
All three pedals are impressive. I gravitated toward the Sheriff V4 in the samples here, pretty much every time. The Revival Drive just looks baffling to me. The Constable is awesome, but it's really a Plexi pedal, where the Sheriff will go into JCM/JVM/5150 territory.
Virgil Donati. That's the drummer, Dan. And the guitar player used to call himself Jack Jones, he's since gone back to his birth name Irwin Thomas. I used to listen to Southern Suns A. LOT! Great band!
One of your longest shows and only three pedals but I loved it because you got into proper depth. May I suggest you keep some bug juice around the TPShack to assist in your battle with the flies... cheers!
Best purchase I ever made was my Fender CS heavy relic 60's Strat. Daphne Blue, rosewood board, no finish on the back of the neck and some nice ageing on the rest of the guitar. One of those where I picked it up and everything just felt right. None of my other guitars get much of a look in now, other than the ones I've made myself!
I got tired of not finding the right strat that feels exactly what I want without spending thousands of $s. I’ve been ordering fender licensed parts that are exactly what I want and putting it together myself. So I can get close to a custom shop for around $500-700 that I can buy $200 at a time. It’s great as long as you know how to put a guitar together
Interesting to hear about Mick falling out with his Strat. Recently had the same with my Strat of 8 years and mass sentimentality because of how I acquired it. Was strange to change it up but it’s just a guitar at the end of the day, and one I feel could be bettered. Anyway I ended up with a Custom Shop in Sonic Blue, rosewood neck which I’m delighted with. Almost didn’t go for it as that combo is so synonymous with Mick these days it’s almost like having a signature guitar. Pleased to hear Mick’s moving on, ha ha.
This is awesome every time video switches to view the Pedal board. That Pedal Show is superimposed on the Fender delay making it look like a TPS edition delay.
I think it will be very interesting to see, how those preamp pedals works, when you put other pedals (TS, OCD, BIG MUFF) in front of them with 4 cable method and switching between preamp pedal and preamp of actual amp.
At 49min you talk about “digital not doing you any favors”. Please do a show about this. At the moment I’m loving using the Strymon Sunset with its new MIDI preset functionality, which is a godsend in a live situation. But for session playing I don’t know. When you have time to fiddle with knobs, sure “cooking up” a great analog tone is great fun.
Congrats...i utilise a boogie tc-50 and orange rocker32 preamp (s) into a hex switcher, w a Constable also in d loop... everything midi'ed up w strymons big 3 and RYRA klone, fallout cloud muff + Cornish g-2...sounds SWEET + Uber usable tones (tc-50 is midi channel changeable, same w switching on orange...GODTONE w me duseys... just bragging
Mick, you're right n the money about amps with lots of headroom. I used to get all of my distortion from turning up amps and that was fine as long as where I was playing could stand the volume, which was rarely the case. So, the search for lower watt but great sounding amps to turn up went on for a long time. I found the best solution in the 65 Amps (blue label) London. Problem was, when I waned a loud, clean sound, I was foxed. I found no really good clean headroom AND really good lower volume distortion in the same amp.. I looked at multi-channel amps for a while but nothing really worked right for me. They were all master volume/gain stuff which i don;t think sounds organic enough. Analysing the problem I realised that if I could apply the correct, first quality pedals to a clean amp that I could accurately emulate the the sound of an amp turned up to distortion, but, and here's the glory part, AT ANY VOLUME. Adding compression (Cali76 and SP), EP tone boost and "transparent" overdrives Klon C and Paisly Deluxe pedals with appropriate EQ (Tech 21 Q Strip), I had everything I wanted. I could make virtually any good amp of any wattage sound any way I wanted it to at any volume from crystal clean to crunchy, gooey, fabulous overdrive (I don't care for high-gain, but that could easily be added with the appropriate pedal). Anyroad, tha's how I solved my problen, for what it's worth.
I asked you a while ago I was having issues with my pedalboard I remove my old Vox King Wah and went straight into the rest of my pedals problem solved yes I know I still need to power everything individually and get rid of my daisy chain money is tight man
Greetings from the Faroes :) I owe you guys so much!!! I'm primarily on some semi-old gear that I bought from new over the years, that I've gotten so much more out of thanks to TPS: an early 2000's Fender Strat (Mexico, but still awesome - took me long enough to pick it, so I can relate to your upcoming process there Mick ;) ) an early 90's Marshall JCM 900 Combo Model 4102 with EL34's - it's a monster for many genres - and latest purchases: T.C. El. Flashback, T.C. Spark Boost and a Hardwire Tube Overdrive. Requests ( in no particular order): Get EVH on the show to offer his view on amps and pedals - that'd be MONSTER!!! TPS should def. visit the Faroes, do clinics, jam :) ? Do an indepth comparison of the Victory pedals vs. Marshalls 800 thru 900 - man I should love for this to happen. Love you guys (and it's meant in the manliest manner thinkable :D )
Talking about Muff, you should take a look on the BMF Effects Aries Fuzz. It's inspired by the Ram's Head and people who know it praise it, it's just missing popularity I think.
I’ve been dying to get myself a Kinglsey preamp after seeing what you guys did with the Maiden and the Hot Rod Deluxe. I’ve just bought a HRD IV and I had absolutely no idea until I saw that video that one could bypass an amp’s preamp section and plug in a third party preamp in its place. Not that I’m at all unhappy with the HRD, it just seems like a really cool option to utilize. It’s pretty expensive though. Also, since the master volume on the front of the amp is no longer usable once a preamp is added to the loop, you can just insert a new master volume after the new preamp within the fx loop. I already have the JHS “little black amp box” because the Hot Rod Deluxe is rather loud regardless so I’ve added that tiny master volume box to my pedalboard so that I can control it from there. It’s super convenient.
Hey Guys - there are certain times when you´re forced to stay in bed, like having a flew or something else ... thanks for making an extended Version of TPS for that particular Situation ... excellent ;) cheers
I feel like i should be paying you for this inspiring information that has helped enormously and I'm seeing and hearing results in a live environment.... Thanks so much Saving to get a D+M Drive but that constable sounds great too....shee Mick I get the strat fallout..... Having just gone back to my 22 yr old American Standard after 6 years in the "were not getting along" case Did discover an amazing tele so now i have 2 loves to serve..... Good hunting for a newie but i reckon you'll kiss and make up with Sonia Blue down the track Thanks again guys Great show
Love the discussion on Dan's practice amp! Should definitely do a show on "Unforgiving" amps. I play through a 1968 Gibson Skylark 5w 1x10, fell in love with it because it's so portable, but find it hard to go back to a "real" amp!
I liked yours best anyway :)
to my ears the CONSTABLE smokes EVERYTHING here..
I love my Constable V2
Southeastern777 you can get on the waiting list for a lot less
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Mr. Steinhardt, it is an absolute privilege to watch your ear at work, dialing in sounds between the Kingsley, Revival, and Sheriff. I've been a pro player and sound engineer for over 25 years and I learn things from these videos every single time! My guitar sound has improved immensely since your show has existed, and it's thanks to your and Mick's supreme talent and knowledge. Hats off, my friend!
Ah, cheers Gary, that’s very kind :)
Could not agree more. My guitar (and overall band mix for that matter) has improved exponentially thanks to TPS.
And it's free! Amazing. I've learned more thanks to these chaps than from people selling the products or the information you can get on the official websites of these products. Best gear show on the planet!
Second that
+1 for Gary Stackhouse. I also went to Audio Recording School, and consider myself as a Musician / Producer and I Learn Something from . . . every single episode. Its a phenomenal show. They do an Amazing job, delivering such valuable information.
I'm really digging the longer episodes. No such thing as too much TPS!
TPS episode uploads have now synchronised with my Out Of Office auto replies
You have chosen... ....wisely.
How very strange.
My phone setting has just leaped to 'priority calls - massive lottery win notifications only'.
29:00 This sent shivers down my spine. I came for the Plexi shootout, but to hear Dan say that a few years ago... wow! Fast forward to today, two days since the great Eddie Van Halen passed away just brings tears to my eyes. Right on, Dan, he was was that great indeed.
You both do such an important thing for guitarists everywhere:)
Cheers Frank, glad you enjoyed it!
I thought Fender had made a ‘That Pedal Show Mirror Image Delay’. Then I thought ‘nah, it’s just a sticker’. Then I realised it’s just the icon on the screen... Great show as usual 👍
Thought the same thing 😂
Me too!
Lufie Alice same here... it took me a few minutes to realize it was just the screen watermark.
Me too! How strange that I don't "see" the TPS watermark when it is over the PA speaker.
if not this comment, I would still think it's on the pedal :)
You missed a trick not playing a bit of Jailbreak ;-)
Fantastic stuff as always chaps
Damn, but that Revival Drive, my volume knob & a cheap delay pedal and I'm set for life!
Or, Constable into a 1-watt Kingsley Crucible! Where is that, Simon? :-)
Or pit the Hi-Watt 100 vs the 1-watt. Tone at any volume.
Benson Vinny!
They all sound great straight off, Revival Drive can do so much more once you spend a lot of time with it. Neck pickup Dan's LP
...... the best!
Mick, don't get down on yourself for struggling a bit; it happens to all of us! You always sound great to me man!
Cup of tea at the ready...
In a TPS mug with a guitar shaped spoon........yep got it bad.
Joey Landreth on his tour in Manchester a few weeks ago was using a Revival Drive into a Two Rock and he sounded epic!
Cheers!
They all sound good, but them Kingsley pedals are something else...in fact, I would like to be one when I grow up.
I love how every time when I have a TPS video on in the background and I hear a sound I just love and need to know what it is, its a strat 😂
Admittedly I mostly play a SSS EB Cutlass, so this is no surprise to me.
"Ooo la la", everything Dan says is t-shirt worthy, EVERYTHING!!!
I find the preamp idea interesting! I'd love to see you guys try out the Synergy stuff.
NOS valves are definitely a thing. I have an NOS GE JAN 12AX7 that was packaged in Feb. 1963. One of these days, it'll have a home.
Man oh man that Revival Drive sounds amazing in every video I see it featured. Hnnnngh!
I am surprised that people are not throwing a fit about these pedals that are named after different law enforcement officials. Oh, how I miss the age of common sense, when people new that good guys were good and bad guys were bad.
On an unrelated note, I just picked up the V4 Kraken... absolute stunning.
Carry on.
ha, I did not notice before I red your comment )
Mick, I'm 46 and have been playing guitar since I was 19. Sometimes, you get sick of the guitar. It's okay. You just need to take a break from it. You probably know this. I then listen to music rather than play it for a while, and then I get re-inspired. All the best.
Thank you! I know this indeed, but it’s still good to hear it. Thank you kindly. :0)
The Sheriff Preamp was magical with the Les Paul
Constable for the win here. Best low gain tones of the three and the most pleasant gain structure cranked.
Makes a lot of sense Michael. We’re definitely in that pickup world with you. And thanks for the good wishes!
Any of those, alongside a Torpedo Cab, makes a very portable and usable gig rig (no pun intended haha)! Great tones
The Constable and the Revival drive are the exact two pedals that I (and I suspect other people) wanted to see compared to the Victory. Nice!
That’s why we did it! Cheers Andrew. :0)
Chris Buck playing anything would make me feel inadequate..
Here for the long version and loving it. Cheers guys
Don't apologize for long shows. Watching TPS is like hanging out with friends. Maybe that sounds kinda lame, but it's true.
Ah, cheers Whiskers :)
Impeccable video as usual Fellas, your show is perfect as always! That Sheriff is the bee's knee's!!!!
Dan, you're think of Virgil Donati in Southern Sons. Excellent point at around 30:00 Mick. The signal chain after the amp and the production choices dramatically affects the sound of any instrument, but especially the guitar.
NOOOO! That blue Strat is my favorite in the world! I'll take it! 😍
It’s not going anywhere... except for a refret and a new nut. :0)
interesting what Mick says about not enjoying playing and struggling a little bit, this was just after playing the Hiwatt really loud.. I've found exactly the same thing if I have had a session of playing a really loud amp.. its almost like it knocks my equilibrium or something off for a few days.. its takes a bit of time to recover.. I seriously believe that.
I really liked it ! The Revival and The Kingsley were more to my liking but The Sherriff was not "bad" . My favorite Utube show Cheers !
Thanks Donald!
Mick it sounds like you need a complete reset. I say, once you find the new guitar you do a ritual burning of the blue Strat on TPS and send it to Valhalla. You will be reunited in the afterlife. Too much? In any case don't over think it, you play great. I did like the John Frusciante bit.
The revival drive holds it own outstandingly well during the comparison at about 26 mins in
Agreed!
I think it's the most Marshall sounding for sure. It has those high mids
I’ll do that Robert - cheers!
In this case it was for reliability. Cheers!
The Kingsley sounds the best to me for pushing cleans and for mid gain. I love the functionality of the Sheriff though, the bypass is inspired!
Would love to see a good video (at least 2 hours long) on the Milkman Amp box.
Guilty as charged m’lud. We are proud of our crime. :0)
Looking forward to the "falling in and out of love with the guitar-episode"
Take care! Cleanish sounds from the Victory was great in my opinion, by the way
Withstand EMF? Never, Unbelievable is a stone cold classic with an awesome guitar solo.
While you're at it, how about a show on Cab simulator pedals ?
Great show guys, all three sound great. Mick don't give up on the blue strat it sounds fantastic. Take it for a Plek, that will whip that puppy back in to shape.
Going to get it refretted and a new nut. That should help to reignite things. :0)
Wow, thank you!
As a fan of the Constable (thanks to Dan), I 'm really digging the V4 Sheriff. That's all! Pete.
Keep in mind guys...the thing that is missing from the real plexi scenario is the sound of the phase inverter and power tubes dimed. If you plug all of these pedals into a plexi return dimed and isolated obviously you 'd get much closer.🙂
That tele always sounds amazing
Constable - I think I would use as a preamp to run other pedals into, I.e turning an amp into a plexi "pedal platform"
Victory - gig ready, really cool that you can have your amps clean sound too.
Revival drive - not sure yet, would be great in a studio context that you could dial in some killer sounds, more versatile.
Just my thoughts.. for whatever they are worth! Great video, can never be too long :)
Dan's TPS shirt is awesome. I love the 1950's script
The other option for royer 121 is the royer 101. They are about $700 each. But the used market is an amazing thing. 😜
HEY GUYS! my dream guest to be on your show other than mr j. mayer would have to be jesse davey and for him to bring in his full line of pedals for you guys to play with. what a show that would be! there would be some great tones for sure.
Mick‘s strat: „we‘ll always have italy.“
Hahaha!!!!
Aw, Mick. We all feel for you, mate. But careful sleeping around with another man's guitar. Hard on relationships.
Great video guys! Sherriff all the way for me,just waiting for the post :)
Cheers!!!!
It’s good advice and one reason I’m playing the 335 so much. Cheers!
That’s about right we’d say Patrick. Cheers!
Yep. I have an eye on a couple of CS Strats just now. Playing a load of stuff to ask a question or three...
Can we get guest star Ed O'Brien, I already know his pedal board I just want more of him!!!
Hahaha!!! We’ll be back in love soon enough after a refret and a new nut. But I want a new Strat as well. So that’s going to happen. :0)
That Les Paul sounds so killer! Great video, love the in depth look at these.
Check out Van Hailen from the NE. Paul Richardson is the Eddie you are looking for 👍👍👍
At 49min you talk about “digital not doing you any favors”. Please do a show about this. At the moment I’m loving using the Strymon Sunset with its new MIDI preset functionality, which is a godsend in a live situation. But for session playing I don’t know. When you have time to fiddle with knobs, sure “cooking up” a great analog tone is great fun.
I’ve just joined the external tube preamp club with a Mesa Boogie Triaxis and I’m loving it. But now I have to dive down the MIDI sinkhole.
The Cascade Fathead Ribbon mic is a good choice for budget savvy guitarists
I asked you a while ago I was having issues with my pedalboard I remove my old Vox King Wah and went straight into the rest of my pedals problem solved yes I know I still need to power everything individually and get rid of my daisy chain money is tight man
Greetings from the Faroes :)
I owe you guys so much!!! I'm primarily on some semi-old gear that I bought from new over the years, that I've gotten so much more out of thanks to TPS:
an early 2000's Fender Strat (Mexico, but still awesome - took me long enough to pick it, so I can relate to your upcoming process there Mick ;) )
an early 90's Marshall JCM 900 Combo Model 4102 with EL34's - it's a monster for many genres - and latest purchases: T.C. El. Flashback, T.C. Spark Boost and a Hardwire Tube Overdrive.
Requests ( in no particular order):
Get EVH on the show to offer his view on amps and pedals - that'd be MONSTER!!!
TPS should def. visit the Faroes, do clinics, jam :) ?
Do an indepth comparison of the Victory pedals vs. Marshalls 800 thru 900 - man I should love for this to happen.
Love you guys (and it's meant in the manliest manner thinkable :D )
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could make something about the new EHX Muff reissues. As a side note, you're awesome!
Yep. And thanks!
Talking about Muff, you should take a look on the BMF Effects Aries Fuzz. It's inspired by the Ram's Head and people who know it praise it, it's just missing popularity I think.
Great suggestion.....Op amp on my radar.
Yes! A Big Muff shootout!
Make sure a Deluxe Big Muff is in there so we can see if it truly does it all
I’ve been dying to get myself a Kinglsey preamp after seeing what you guys did with the Maiden and the Hot Rod Deluxe.
Origin effects revivaldrive custom 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hey Guys - there are certain times when you´re forced to stay in bed, like having a flew or something else ... thanks for making an extended Version of TPS for that particular Situation ... excellent ;) cheers
Get well soon!
cheers guys, that´s very kind !
Have you guys seen the new Supro amp designed with Mr Keeley? Looks ace. I wonder if you can get hold of one...
There’s one on the way!
Be still my beating heart!!
That Pedal Show Halleluja! 😍🤗
I feel like i should be paying you for this inspiring information that has helped enormously and I'm seeing and hearing results in a live environment....
Thanks so much
Saving to get a D+M Drive but that constable sounds great too....shee
Mick I get the strat fallout.....
Having just gone back to my 22 yr old American Standard after 6 years in the "were not getting along" case
Did discover an amazing tele so now i have 2 loves to serve.....
Good hunting for a newie but i reckon you'll kiss and make up with Sonia Blue down the track
Thanks again guys
Great show
Totally Billy. Refret and a new nut and we’ll be bezzies again. :0)
I love the idea of a long and short edit! We like long episodes!
That Lester doth shine with that setup! Yowza!
Love the discussion on Dan's practice amp! Should definitely do a show on "Unforgiving" amps. I play through a 1968 Gibson Skylark 5w 1x10, fell in love with it because it's so portable, but find it hard to go back to a "real" amp!
